That idiot has some skewed perception of reality, thinking that any sane person would actually buy a BFL product by choice.
Not when the word "BFL" has been turned into a term with a definition meaning:

1. To have something you ordered - delivered so far behind schedule, that it is no longer useful to you. Especially in cases where delays are 100+ days and the manufacturer or reseller is refusing to offer a refund for the goods.
2. Scammed
3. Completely fucked over

BFL is what's wrong with the Bitcoin ASIC industry and I truly hope they go bankrupt.

Looks good. But please, don't help add a couple hundred THs to the network by being the hero and writing an overclocking tutorial!

wow this is bold. I have no words.

Imagine what would have happened if tolip_wen had applied the same reasoning...

We would had to wait until January till the new firmware comes with built-in overclocking Smiley

You can't be sure, because tolip_wen's findings could have influenced KnC's choice to release a OC-ready firmware.

The thing that really annoys me is the attitude. Without the sharing of knowledge almost all the bitcoin ecosystem would not exist at all.

What is stopping you from providing such a tutorial?

This is a HashFast thread.  Hating on non-HashFast entities will not be tolerated.

So guys please only hate on Hashfast  Grin

Are we sure there isn't a placebo affect going on here with this unofficial firmware? I read one dude had to go back to the older version cause it was worse. Then others say hash rate is up. Maybe just because of the reboot? I'm using .99 firmware and rock steady on 561Gh/sec. It hasn't moved from there since I changed my power supply to the Corsair RM1000. I use to use the RM850, but that didn't have 4 PCI-E connections. The RM1000 has I think 6 of them. And of course it is silent. I'd love to keep mining but this damn bitcoin crash is driving me nuts. I do call it a crash since it was over $1000 not too long ago. Getting tired of seeing $650, either go up or down damn it!

Crash  Huh

When I bought my miners the price was $150 and I made plans to ROI in 6 months.
$1000 was too good to be true. $600 is fu**ing awesome. $300 would be great.

Josh is probably taking a % of HF profits due to it's suggestions to john. So there is really no point in asking him it's opinion on HF. I will always remember how sure he was that KNC was gonna be late when we meet, it must have been because he knew that KNC was legit.

And I was right... KNC was late.  They promised summer delivery and didn't deliver until, what... October?

KNC promised summer delivery on there FPGA protot ype of like 80gh or some such..FPGA unit ...forget the name......the btc community said it was too small too high priced..so they changed it to their proof of concept prototype...and did not deliver that in the summer they delivered their orig ASIC as they stated on time org 250gh was the estimated gh....always stated that for the fall ie sept  (or 1 week late for some folk)....so no the ASIC 400gh stated at the end became current ad  (which they gave us the other 550 gh for free mine does 555gh) was on time +/- a week....so don't spread false info.....ASIC we are talking here.

Does it hurt to be so wrong all the time?

I am 100% confident that if you happen to die in the worst possible and painful way, 99% of the people on this forum would not care. Some would even feel a little happier inside.

I know we have some nerds here, but man! So when did KNC start handing out free t-shirts? I never got one. Only certain customer's?

I got it in person in Stockholm.
588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 24, 2013, 02:54:23 PM

I've had many non managed switches go bad on me. Several in just the last year. No reason or anything, they just stopped working. And I'll just end up replacing them with new ones and everything is back to normal. I have a stack of Netgear hubs all from warranty repair sitting here. I won't use any "fixed" or refurb stuff on my network. Are there any firmware updates for your router?

There usually is, but I haven't checked.
But I am fairly certain the problem was related to the DHCP pool table. It's gone now and if it happens again I know what to do.

Btw anyone know what is the current limit of the Fan headers on the boards. I would assume connecting 2-3 fans on the same header shouldn't be a problem?

The signal to noise ratio here is astounding Angry
There is no signal at all, and it's not our fault.

You and the trolls like you are the explicit example of who's fault it is.

You are the prime reason for what is wrong with the entire ASIC industry. Go back to your cave.
590  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: December 24, 2013, 04:00:19 AM

And at the end I changed to:

Code:
start-stop-daemon -b -S -x screen -- -S bfgminer -t bfgminer -m -d "$DAEMON" --api-listen --default-config /config/bfgminer/bfgminer.conf

My error
The "/config/cgminer.conf" at the end should remain the same.

Code:
start-stop-daemon -b -S -x screen -- -S bfgminer -t bfgminer -m -d "$DAEMON" --api-listen --default-config /config/cgminer.conf

Will edit above.
Thx for the feedback!

Smiley
Thanks. Btw is there any difference between installing bfgminer using your method and just installing Bertmod?
Because if there isn't then no point in doing it manually really. Is it the same version in both methods?

Need help. SD full image of October Saturn (Saturn-B52).

Max the voltage for 1 minute until the dies revive then drop back to normal.
592  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: December 24, 2013, 01:21:40 AM
bitcoinorama mentioned KnC is planning to release PLL clock FW.

Great post Smiley

I think :x is easier than :wq Wink

Just tried to install and run BFGminer, but I can't run it. What am I doing wrong?

There are 5 lines in /config/bfgminer/bfgminer.sh that mention cgminer and need to be changed:

Code:
DAEMON=/config/bfgminer/bfgminer
NAME=bfgminer
DESC="Bfgminer daemon"

I assume of these 3 only the first one is important.

And at the end I changed to:

Code:
start-stop-daemon -b -S -x screen -- -S bfgminer -t bfgminer -m -d "$DAEMON" --api-listen --default-config /config/bfgminer/bfgminer.conf

And last:

Code:
do_stop() {
        killall -9 bfgminer || true

But when I try to:
Code:
/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh stop ; /config/bfgminer/bfgminer.sh restart
or
Code:
/config/bfgminer/bfgminer.sh restart
/config/bfgminer/bfgminer.sh start

Nothing happens. The last one just stays on Starting bfgminer deamon for like 15 seconds, but there are no screens later on.

What am I doing wrong?

593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 24, 2013, 12:53:36 AM

yeah this is getting interesting....with cointerra and hashfast prob trickling out till say march/april....BFL being say 3 months late...KNC being early..this stuff could all dump in march/april prob the same week with my luck

what we looking at for Neptune batch 1's    0.1 btc a day?.....

not trying to be doom and gloom here....but whats the MATH (i'm  doofus at math) ..better minds then me opinions?

I will be optimistic and say that Neptune will be 5TH/s.
For 0.10BTC a day we need a difficulty of 25 billion.
25 billion difficulty = 179PH/s = 35800 Neptunes.

With batches of 1200 that seems highly unlikely even with all the competition around.
594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 23, 2013, 09:03:22 PM
I can't install the new firmware...

Drops me an error message.

Same for somebody?

I have't tried yet, but maybe Bertmod is at fault.
Try to restart the miner and then flash it.
595  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: December 23, 2013, 08:18:23 PM
I have a 3 Module Saturn that is running at 500Gh using 211 with no issues.

231 gets me about 530-540 but until the temp in my building drops into the 40's I will leave it as is.

500GH/s I can believe, but 540 is a science fiction, sorry.
If we are talking about the average speed reported by the pool.

did you custom build the rack for your jupiters? or just happened to find one of the same size?

This is for October boxes ONLY: http://bit.ly/1dyucXS

This is for November boxes ONLY: http://bit.ly/1d40PP0

Any changelog?
What's new?

Mainly the reduced hardware errors on Eligius and the inclusion of the latest release of CGMiner. TBH it's not a complete update, we wanted to give you somerthing by xmas. V isn't happy with labeling it as a complete release, but it's almost 8pm (not 7pm, damned machine clock, argh!!), as he is still to tackle something before he's entirely happy with calling it an update. It doesn't have the additional tuning kit mentioned prior. Mainly Nov boxes will see the greatest benefit.

In any case as always constructive feedback appreciated, enjoy! Happy Hols...ho ho ho!!

Thanks Orama very thoughtful and nice xmas present to do a little tinkering with.  I'll update it now and report back after 12 hours of running it.

Merry Christmas to you, KNC team and all here on bitcointalk.
Cheers to all  Smiley

Quick update......
with new firmware kncminer-0.99.1-tune_October.bin in my October machine significant improvement, and looks with more time will be even better.

just a few minutes running and hash rate up 10GH/s and HW errors down only 1%..  will look better with more time
I report back in few hours, but looking great to begin with.

Thanks again
Cheers

Awesome, thanks for the info.
I will test it on the November ones first and then on the October ones.
598  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: December 23, 2013, 08:07:13 PM
231 sounds pretty high.  That's 900MHz if I'm not mistaken.

How many amps does bertmod report each DCDC is putting out?  I hear that exceeding 50A each is pushing things beyond safe margins (in particular the PCB traces are at risk).

The feedback i saw from the KNC folks is that 60A is the upper end for the GE VRMs but of course they higher you go the more risk youtake

Can you really overclock the November ones above 670GH/s?

@CYPER
How much watt is your plug adapter rated?
2 plug adapter plugging into 1 plug adapter.
6 Jupiters over 1 line?
Do the cable get warm?

I use Brennenstuhl plug adapters with built-in surge protector .
Rated 3500 watt per piece.
At the wall I have another surge protector and a kill a watt installed.
I don't plug more than 2 Jupiters in 1 plug adapter.
Each pair of Jupiters is using 1 line rated 16 A 240 Volt.

I spread my Jupiters over 4 locations in case of fire or any kind of disaster.
Mayby I am a litte paranoid, but I admire your courage to plug 6 Jupiters in 1 line

If you mean the Watt meters, I gave a link above - it's 13A, which is a UK standard, so 3120W.

This is how I run my miners: My flat has 3x 30A circuits - one just for the cooker, which I can hack into if needed and 2x for all the wall power sockets in every room. That is 14400W for all power sockets without any safety margins.
My miners are divided into 2:
3 of them connected to a 1m long Belkin surge protected extension lead, which in turn is connected to a 5m extension lead that goes to a 13A socket.
The other 3 are the same: connected to a 1m long Belkin surge protected extension lead, which in turn is connected to a 10m extension lead that goes to another 13A socket.

So all of then are connected to one of the 30A circuits, using 2x 13A sockets.
Together they consume up to 4.6kW or around 20A.

Current usage:
