641  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I am out of the mining game :( on: August 21, 2015, 05:17:10 PM
Mining on you HDD - That's right, almost no power usage! Is now possible for everyone!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FHvD3b30ks

Here is a video on how to use it. Smiley

Mining is back! A different style that is still a 'traditional' style of mining, completely reborn, uses hardly any power, and is very fun!
From what I've heard the days of BURST mining are long gone. When it initially released it was a fairly profitable coin, but not so much anymore.

However I have heard of some users GPU mining Ethereum and making a little bit of money off that, so if you have a couple spare GPU's that might be worth looking into.
642  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] - New in box S5+ on: August 21, 2015, 02:46:52 PM
A thunder from oklahoma to California was 45$ cheapest possible method and that was weight shipping (at around 30 pounds) I imagine an S5+ behemoth is going to be an expensive ship via UPS but 500$ still seems high, maybe 300$ via USPS is possible (or dhl they are cheaper for international aren't they?)
If he ships via DHL I suspect the buyer would probably have to pay some import fees. It seems that every time I have a miner shipped with DHL I'm charged $20 to $30 CAD for import fees, so that's something to keep in mind.
643  Other / Meta / Re: Member: idol << ACCOUNT HACKED on: August 21, 2015, 02:03:56 PM
I think that would only be a valid thing to use when the pm could still be seen in his account. Something that could provide a real proof.

I guess staff has to check this. Maybe send badbear a pm.
If Graffiti still has a copy of the PM in his inbox/outbox, then the PM will still be in the site's database, and the staff should be able to confirm the validity of that screenshot. The other thing that could be done to verify the message is have a trusted party (preferably someone who provides escrow here with a good trust track record) log into Grafitti's account, and see the message for themselves.
644  Other / Meta / Re: Your IP HAS SOME EVIL POINTS? on: August 20, 2015, 02:59:32 PM
Smells like you are being scammed or whatever. Don't pay shit to anyone if asked.

No, that is no scam. That is when you register a new account on bitcointalk and you use an ip that was previously banned. That only should ensure that a scammer or spammer isn't simply creating the next account and starts over.

With the fee it costs a bit and might make it not worth anymore to scam or spam.
Scams aren't moderated here, so scammers aren't banned (unless they're breaking forum rules, but more often than not they don't break the rules of the forum).

If my understanding is correct, the fee is in place to prevent spammers and trolls to come back to the forum and continue breaking rules. To do so, they'd have to send a little bitcoin to the website, and that wouldn't be worth the time of some who've been banned. Like BadBear said though, it's better than a full IP ban, especially if you decide to use the website over Tor or a public VPN.
645  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its time for the campaign runners to raise your pathetic rates on: August 19, 2015, 05:36:35 PM
The signature campaign market is competitive, so if campaigns start to lower their rates then other campaigns will probably do so as well. If it isn't worth your time to participate in a signature campaign, then that's great, you probably shouldn't, but I don't see how signature campaigns are scams. Nobody is forcing you to participate in a campaign so if you don't agree with how they're run, don't participate.

Please further explain how they're scams, because most participants know exactly how much they'll be paid for their work before participating, so I think that's completely fair. I suspect that posting rates have dropped because referral rates from signature campaign rates have probably dropped as well in the past few months, so the advertising isn't as effective. A few campaigns have closed in the past couple months because signature advertising wasn't effective for them, so it would make sense that clicks from signatures are down as well.
646  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't use wallet seed on: August 19, 2015, 02:37:23 AM
13 words

If you input more than 12 words, the next button will grey out. Your seed should have 12.

You cannot use a seed from different wallet (Armory for example or anything else than Electrum).

Nope, 13 is correct for electrum 2 wallets.

Is it? Well my mistake then. I don't really know what is wrong with OP's seed then.
Yeah, Electrum started to implement 13 word seeds in the 2.x versions, however the 1.x versions use 12 word seeds.

OP, what version of Electrum are you using? If you're using a 1.x version you won't be able to recover a 13 word seed, similarly to how you wouldn't be able to recover a 12 word seed with Electrum 2.x.
647  Economy / Speculation / Re: $235 on: August 19, 2015, 02:21:28 AM
is it recovering? still going downward from the looks of it
The price recovered quickly from the low of $162 @ BitFinex, but it's still lower than it was pre-crash ($235 vs $255). Not sure what charts you're looking at, but it looks like the price is slowly climbing, at least at BitFinex, BTC-e and Bitstamp.
648  Economy / Speculation / Re: $162 Bitfinex [2015-AUG-18] on: August 19, 2015, 02:19:01 AM
A move like this is most likely due to insider trading.  I'm assuming someone inside bitfinex saw an opportunity to crash the market and trigger a majority of margin calls.  A lot of little guys just lost everything so a whale could have a snack.  I hope some lessons in margin trading were learned.
I was thinking the same thing.

Margin trading is poison to me.
On /r/Bitcoin there's a post mentioning that a single user on BitFinex sold of 20,000 of the 30,000 BTC sold during that quick crash, so it sounds like the other 10k were lost due to margin trading, and people panic selling as well.

I'm guessing there are some pretty frustrated people right now who just learnt a difficult lesson about margin trading. On another note though, it was amazing to see how quickly the price dropped. I was lucky to be watching Bitcoin Wisdom right as the price dropped to $162 and then make its way back up to "normal levels" again.
649  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] Rollin.io Signature & Avatar Campaign - NEW RULES Aug. 12th on: August 18, 2015, 09:23:11 PM
I was out of town for a week so no posts, I don't know if it matters since the campaign is monthly, but wanted to let the campaign know anyway.  For security reasons I do not post online beforehand that I'm going out of town.
No worries, however your post made me realize that for some reason you weren't slotted in on the spreadsheet. You've been slotted in and your post count updated.
650  Other / Meta / Re: Flag a hacked account on: August 18, 2015, 08:16:14 PM
And when the original owner can provide a signature that proofs his ownership then i will give him the account login.

Message sent to BadBear,

For everyone else, here is a signed message for you all to check while they look into this.

Address: 1GTdTYN1KdeFNcp3mgX2RffnZH5A5mTem

Message: My account "bigjme" has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to () or delete the account. The current date is August 18th, 2015.

Signature: H0JGgw7dLNmIk67fL9I314/B9NG8U+Oh8avLQqtIindXHtqx+UFpcV0lT7DLSzGSAq3g3FMDxISxPE1I1AQBzpw=

Again sorry to everyone effected by this

He posted that signature earlier in this thread so he is indeed the original owner of the account. You can see proof of this bitcoin address being used by bigjme in his signature here.
651  Other / Meta / Re: Flag a hacked account on: August 18, 2015, 05:51:52 PM
Different format. Signature checks out, but its probably best if you ask for an mail address that actually exists. Accounts do not get deleted.
I think he might have sent BadBear one with his email address included, just because of the wording in his message below.

Negative trust left on the account. Let me know when you're in control of the account again and I'll remove the negative trust left. But now that you've sent BadBear a message you've basically done all you can, and I wouldn't worry about the hacker doing anything on your account now with the negative trust. However be sure to let us know when you get back into your account.
652  Economy / Auctions / Re: Wts Hero Accounts on: August 18, 2015, 03:08:31 PM
That's a very high starting bid. From what I've seen, Hero accounts usually sell for between 0.4 and 0.6 BTC, so you might want to drop that starting bid by quite a bit. Also, you have no mention of when the auction ends.
Actually I'm confused if OP meant 0.6 for two accounts or one, anyway maybe the high price is due to post quality.
If the starting bid for both accounts is 0.6 BTC then that's definitely a fair starting point, but if it's 0.6 BTC per account that's way too high. Even if an account had outstanding post quality I think you'd have trouble auctioning it off with a starting bid that high.

654  Other / Meta / Re: Forum governance? on: August 18, 2015, 01:58:54 PM

Not speaking directly about the blocksize debate, but triggered by the discussion about censorship etc.

What I wanted to ask is: Who does the forum belong to? Is theymos the owner and he has the right to decide whatever he wants? In that case, donations have been made to him personally and people have to live with his decisions on how he spends it and runs the forums.

On the other hand, are the forums something that belongs to the community (whatever that means) and while theymos is the administrator of it, he's not the owner and does not get ultimate power of what can be published in this forum and what cannot.

Again, independent of the current debate I wanted to know whether there exists some sort of formal or informal contract on theymos role wrt to the questions above, and whether this has been discussed anywhere.
If my understanding is correctly, the forum belongs to theymos and he is ultimately the one who makes decisions regarding the website. As for the donations, yes, although people donated to the forum theymos decides where the donations will go, and right now it sounds like a decent portion of the donations are going towards developing new forum software. The same goes for /r/Bitcoin, he's the administrator there and decides what content will be displayed.
655  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Average mining ROI on: August 17, 2015, 11:51:53 PM
Well your math seems to be accurate. however you just forgot a very important detail. The Halving. so, considering bitcoin mining rewards will drop to half if someone starts mining at this point, the possible outcome would be to never reach ROI...

Isn't 200 days too soon for halving? He'll reach ROI one or two months before the reward change.
200 days is indeed too soon for the halving. It should happen almost a year from now, according to this website. So OP should be able to make a full ROI on his gear (if the calculators are fairly accurate in predicting difficulty changes).
656  Other / Meta / Re: Abuse or not? on: August 17, 2015, 09:04:11 PM
Whenever an account's password is changed, everyone who left positive feedback on it should be automatically notified that they should investigate whether the account was just sold and if so, to delete their feedback that applied only to the previous owner.
I think you're onto a good idea, but it would get a little annoying for users who do a ton of trades (Blazedout419 for example) because they'd be getting a lot of notifications whenever a user they sent positive trust to changes their password.

I think a better idea would be notifying everyone who left positive trust for a user, if that user changes their password more than once every 12 or 24 hours. Because it seems often when an account is sold the password is changed at least twice in less than 6 hours: once when the seller sends the account details and then twice when the new buyer secures the account for themselves. Something like that might be a better idea because it wouldn't be as annoying as getting a notification every password change, but would still provide useful information to users who have sent positive feedback.
657  Other / Meta / Re: My account Got Hacked . on: August 17, 2015, 05:32:11 PM

Yeah i edited all those , as i have no control over those address now as i have Flushed out all the old addresses from my wallet as they were making my wallet to load slower.
You can get it confirm from Vervolioman , whom i requested to change my address , because of this issue.
But why would you edit those old posts then with a new address? Why not just post your new address in this thread and leave the old posts as is? If you're editing old posts and changing the addresses posted that looks very suspicious.
658  Economy / Auctions / Re: Senior member account auction on: August 17, 2015, 04:19:00 PM
@OP:

So does that mean that any bitcoin address that the account has posted, you can sign?

Bidding 0.12BTC regardless of answer.

Signed message available with 2 months old

So you're saying that any bitcoin address older than 2 months, you can't sign.

Wasn't the forum hack roughly 2 months ago...? Or am I getting my dates mixed up.
It was actually about 3 months ago that the forum was hacked. On May 23rd theymos announnced that password hashes and emails had been compromised.
