1201  Economy / Services / Re: HYIPPOPOTAMUS - Get your HYIP site up and running - ALL INCLUSIVE on: January 15, 2015, 09:12:25 PM
The reason I don't do it myself, is that I am a morally conscious guy
I don't think there's anything morally conscious about setting up a ponzi/HYIP for others knowing that they'll be stealing people's money.  Roll Eyes
1202  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: January 15, 2015, 12:51:58 AM
If you really want to, you can run your own MyTrezor website and use that if the main one is down.

Here's a link to the Github page for the MyTrezor site: https://github.com/trezor/webwallet

Thanks, but really we shouldn't have to go to such lengths ... we pay for a 'robust service' when we buy a Trezor.

I completely agree. There was a discussion on Reddit a few days ago about how often MyTrezor is down. Someone suggested that SatoshiLabs could implement www1./www2./www3. addresses for load balancing. That way, if one of the sites doesn't work, we'd still have two more to use.

I'm not sure how difficult or costly that would be to implement, but it would be a great feature.
1203  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: January 14, 2015, 10:23:00 PM

Logging in earlier to my account was a little scary ... the website refused to load properly, even after many 'refreshes'.

Finally it loaded OK, and then offered the firmware update.

For me, updated and all OK ... but I DO REALLY NOT FIND this Trezor service to be always available.

... I don't like 'Intermittent' service long term.

Also, firmware update went well for me. I haven't tried anything out with it really, but I'll have to look into the changes. I know multi-sig support was added, but only with Greenaddress right now. Hopefully soon we'll see it on MyTrezor as well.

Want to post some public information here, lightlord and I came to an agreement on me running an ad for him. This will be used both as a reminder of when the ad expires, as well as if there are any disagreements regarding dates for this ad.

I will run the ad posted in the OP for a duration of 60 days on the header of my website. ( https://camscryptoblog.com )

Start Date: January 14th, 2015
End Date: March 15th, 2015
Website URL: https://camscryptoblog.com

I was paid up front by lightlord and won't require any additional payments after 60 days have finished.

GPUs are now just gaming Smiley
Block erupters sleepin
BFLs sleepin
kfc 28nm sleepin
kfc 20nm getting sleepy

I havent looked in many months but also have 1G a CEX and they have not sent me a bill for power yet...
Last I checked(July '14) the 1G was barely makin dust after 'fees'...

I did back of the envelope @ BTC $300 and decided $200 enters the grey area for my situation.

Not sure if I'll pack it in or throw good money after bad on the chance of a windfall price change.
The fact that I save over $100 a month on winter heating has a 1 month grace period being considered...

LOL 'the best laid plans of mice and men...'

YMMV
Smiley
Your 1GH/s at Cex isn't doing anything right now, they've paused their cloud mining because they can't make a profit with the bitcoin price and rising difficulty. So you aren't making or losing money there.

Sent you a PM with an offer.  Cool
1207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Constant High GPU Temps Bad? on: January 12, 2015, 10:15:51 PM

You could try adding additional fans to your system to lower the load on the GPU funs, then they could run at slower speeds. You should just make sure your VRM temperatures are in check too - some GPUs have sensors for the VRMs and their temperatures will show up in GPU-z. I'd try and keep VRM temps below 80C.

You could also try downvolting your card - that way it would take less power, and the fans could run slower too.

How about Watercooling my GPU?

Watercooling can still go to dangerous temperatures. Keep this in mind.
Plus, it would be a huge investment and if you plan to make that money back from mining it will take a very long time, you might never reach a full return.

Well I was just able to phone the police to see if they could give me an update on this case. Unfortunately they can't give out any information right now. I hope they can let the public know when/if they arrest Jason though.

They may post it here if anything happens:

http://police.saskatoon.sk.ca/news/
They might, I'm not sure if they would post his name or affiliation to PBMining with the post though, or even if they would post it at all. I suspect that if they do post a notice, they may just post one saying someone was arrested for fraud, or running an unregistered security. So if we see one of those posts, it might mean that he's been arrested.
1209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Constant High GPU Temps Bad? on: January 12, 2015, 10:03:25 PM
Hello,

If I am mining with my GPU 24/7 (R9 280x), at a pretty much constant temp of 65C, and have my fans running around 2000-2500 RPM will it decrease the lifespan of my GPU? How long till it might stop working?

Would water cooling it help my GPU "live longer" by keeping it at low temperatures?

How long has your GPU been running 24/7?

Thank you.
If you keep your GPU at 65C, it shouldn't shorten it's lifetime at all. However, it might decrease the life of the fans on the GPU. I used to run a 7850 24/7 and after a year or so one of the fans began to rattle. You might want to keep that in mind.

So the only thing that is in danger is the GPU fans correct? Do you have any tips to keep the GPU at lower temps, so the fans doesn't have to turn so fast but keep the hashrates as high? I set my Max allocated GPU to 60% should it be lower? Right now 60% or 100% gives me the same hashrates.

1211  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cex.Io Out Of The Mining Game As Difficulty Surges And Prices Drop on: January 12, 2015, 09:53:26 PM
My guess is that they didn't keep up with the ASIC upgrades over the past year. They probably got caught flatfooted with high power requirements and low hashing hardware. I think some other farms followed suit, there was a large drop in network hashrate the other day.
That's exactly what I'm thinking. On their site they have a program where you can trade your GH/s for real hardware. The hardware listed for the program looks really inefficient, and looks like they've that equipment for over a year now.
1212  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Power consumption formula on: January 12, 2015, 09:40:46 PM
You can calculate power consumption with the following formula

Power Usage in kW * 24 * Power Price = daily power cost

So your power cost per day would be as follows:
1.4 * 24 * 0.22 = 7.392

There should be avatar uploads in the new forum software, going to be released around February.
Is there news that the new software will be released in February? I know it's been in the works for awhile but I didn't know that it was due to be released in February.
1215  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Recovery program beginning in January for PB Mining customers. on: January 11, 2015, 06:49:52 PM
what about recovery program?

PBMining has not been online since 4th Jan  Lips sealed
That kind of makes me wonder if the Saskatoon Police picked him up. I'm guessing either that, or he packed up and left town. Maybe I'll call the police tomorrow to see if they can give us any new information on the PBMining case.

1217  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: hybrid power to mining, is it worth? on: January 10, 2015, 04:06:35 PM
What do you mean by "hybrid"?

If you have a small mining operation (as in less than 10kW) and are looking at investing in solar/wind to offset your power costs I probably wouldn't do it. With current solar tech right now it'll take ~ 25 years to break even on the panel cost, at least here in Canada. Because of that, you'd probably be better off just paying $0.13/kWhr than investing into solar or wind power. Another option you have is looking at having your gear hosted at a datacenter. I'm not sure what kind of hosting rates you'd be looking at, or if there's a datacenter near you, but there's a possibility that you'd save a bit of money by having your miners hosted for you.
1218  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Recovery program beginning in January for PB Mining customers. on: January 04, 2015, 12:31:22 AM
Are we getting paid according to the formula this time?
Well, Jason changed the contract from a fair contract to "A-B=C" a few weeks ago. So technically, you're getting paid according to a formula, just not a fair formula nor the formula that you started your contract with.
1219  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Recovery program beginning in January for PB Mining customers. on: January 02, 2015, 06:27:06 PM
Nice idea Syke ... I never saw a contract though, not sure there ever was one ... If you got one then please share.

I'm not a lawyer, but I certainly had to have an understanding of contract law when I studied management all those years ago.
Even today contracts are a normal part of my business life.
In a nutshell that is
Offer
Acceptance
Consideration
Certainty

Of course there's no "official" contract. This was a "business" run by a novice with no understanding of how to run a legitimate business.

But being the wise scammer he is, he quietly changed the details and deleted posts to hide the conditions promsied.

Quote
1. Of course we are hashing, otherwise we would be paying our users out of our own pockets and that would eventually make us bankrupt.  We are here to succeed and have paid out our customers on time since our launch.

2. There are no mining pool fees to the customer.  We cover our own mining fees from our pool workers which the customer will never have to see.

Instead, the customer is payed based on this fixed formula, taken right from our PHP script:

$per24 = ($totalHashingPower * 25 / $difficulty) * (60 * 60 * 24 * 65535 * pow(10,6) / pow(2,48));

This formula is standard with all Bitcoin Profit Calculators.  Our users do not mine directly with our hardware -- the advantage of this is that we are capable of insuring them during any downtime or performance reductions.  PB Mining guarantees a fixed rate of hash power at 100% efficiency -- a luxury you will not find anywhere else.

Emphasis added.
I actually emailed PB a few months ago to see if I could get a copy of the actual contract. Here's what he responded to me saying: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=887871.msg9791011#msg9791011

i'm not going to participate in this conversation except to say that  Jason Boyko ('we') needs to talk to a doctor about his schizophrenia.

happy new year.
It also seems that he hasn't ever taken any sort of business courses. I've heard that one of the most basic lessons in a business course is to say "we've always run our operations to the best of our ability and have always been in contact with customers." or something along the lines of that when responding to accusations. Now that he's said "I'm not a thief" people are going to relate him with that, a thief.  Roll Eyes
