But who consistently get's lucky for 38 game weeks ?

If the system wasn't luck-based, the lucky bastard Cryptofka, who has zero knowledge of FPL (I'm sure he hasn't heard of bench boasts or free hits yet), would be at the bottom.  Grin

That's a wrong a assertion in my opinion, he has zero knowledge about FPL chips, fine but he knows his ball, take a look at his team over the course of the season so far and tell me that his choice of players are terrible or just random picks with no subsequent games in mind. Having your FPL chips work out for fine for your selected game week is where you can consider luck as a factor and that's how many gameweeks for a bench boost and triple captain ? For free hit and wild cards you need to know what you're doing, but luck isn't what help you stay head above waters for 21 gameweeks simply because you haven't used your any of your chips.

while Swiatek looks easily going through.

Not the case mate, Iga Swiatek have just been knocked out by Linda Noskova, what a twist!!! I anticipated a less than an hour game after Swiatek took to first set 6-3, but then Noskova have done the unthinkable!

So, I can officially say that it's 3 points for me this round as well!  Smiley Smiley

Looking forward to the next round against yet another tough opponent @LTU_btc, and really, I hope I can keep this streak of mine going  Smiley

I strongly disagree with this. Yeah any given GW is luck. You can play tripple captain in perfect double GW and your guy gets injured 10 minutes into first game. Nothing you can do about that.

But during the length of whole season those variances level out and good managers find their way to the top.

Again top 10k needs some luck, but top 200k is respectable and achievable every season.

Newcastle example, they have been perfectly predictable all season. Of course they are bad with half team injured, playing every 3 days and having though schedule. Now they are out from other competitions and had time to recuperate and good fixtures are coming soon....we should be buying their players not selling and most people are still selling.

You just agreed to my point with the second paragraph of your post without knowing  Grin

The 1st -10k is luck, and anything less is strategy. Well, talking about Newcastle United, we all know what happened the last time we all complained about the entire team being injured, and they went on to beat Chelsea and go unbeaten for a few unexpected games, right? Personally, only Gordon and Trippier are worth considering in Newcastle United's present form.

Consistency is always important, but it does not rule out luck.

But who consistently get's lucky for 38 game weeks ? Every player in the FPL gets unlucky at some point regardless of how strategic you're, I just want point out that some decision are just riskier but doesn't make them luck oriented just like the term differentials that is often being used in the FPL, no one could convincingly predict that they'll finish in top 10,000 at beginning yes but finish there doesn't make lucky and rule every long term strategy, you could see someone who set up their team and never look back at it win manager of the week multiple times along the season, or even manager of the month (very very low chance), but you'll almost never see any manager that didn't touch their team after game week one finish in the top 100k come the end of the season, meanwhile if luck has the biggest impact on where a manager finishes then I'd suppose there should be at least 1 manager from the multimillions that would get a lineup that doesn't need any change and get within the need average point per week to finish within the overall top positions.

Once again Boston showed that they can't play at the end of games, this time at home. The 27-game winning streak at home is over. Tatum had the shot to send the game to overtime, but he was in a hurry and took an early off-balance attempt without the right positioning. Denver played like champions, showing that the playoffs and the finals will be very difficult. The duo of Murray and Jokic played very well. Boston missed too many three-pointers except for the first quarter, if they shot with a little higher percentage they could've won the game. It's not that important to lose a regular season game but they have to be careful, this is a preview of a possible finals match-up.

That have been their Achilles heel this season, they're too good a shooting team and they know it too so it hurt them a lot when they need a win and tie making shot they often give up easy play and end up with the very wrong ones like leaving layups to tie a game and passing it out for a 3 pt shot, I remember just like how they lost against Warriors about a less than month ago, where they had a 6 chances opportunities came begging but they kept going for a 3 point shot and end losing the game.

Did anyone catch Cape Verde's opening goal? This went straight in from like 40 yards, sheesh! Juninho vibes.

The Mozambique Goalkeeper was very awful to say the very least, just a few minutes before that goal Bebe have had one shot struck the crossbar from almost an equal distance and that didn't serve as an enough warning strike for the goalkeeper, the ball was coming straight to him and he looked completely clueless, and then there was the third goal too from a long range as well, I'd be very surprised if he remains the no. 1 choice for their final group fixture.
Not to take anything away from the wonderful strike, though, I think the third was quite better, tbh.

any update on Sainz? has he won? I just need him to win to secure 3 points 😁

Yes, Carlos Sainz won the Dakar Rally, he finished 1st with 1 hour, 20 minutes ahead of his closest opponent.

Damn, Iraq is bossing Japan around, showering their goal with attempts and leading by 2 goals with about 10 minutes left to go. Quite a pretty game to watch and they won because Japan doesn't close down in defence, just really couldn't get past the physicality of their opponents. Was 8/1 and I didn't bet on it, so feel like I missed out.

Only 2 guys picked 0-1 goals for Japan -- both the legends of Div3A, hats off to you Spack and Kokee.

Two goals from Hussein, with score at 2 Nil and I saw the name of the scorer, I said to myself maybe the Japanese team thought the dead had risen and were afraid of a possible holocaust, because for Iraq they were a 10+ Odds underdog and more than half of pool went with 2 and 4+ goals to conceded by them, so what could possibly have happened to the Japan team that didn't include adding up the name Saddam the dictator to that of goals scorer ?

Wait a minute,  why the hell do WTA have 4 rounds and ATP has 3 rounds this week.   Confusing 😕

WTA play a best of 3 sets in grand slams, while ATP is best of 5 Sets, you hardly find a WTA match lasting for 2 hours and a lot finishing under 1 hour and some minutes, while the least for any match in the ATP so far would have been nothing short of 3 or there about hours since a lot matches have gone to the full 5 sets length.

Rybakina is out!

Well predicted that this shit would happen but my stupid brain picked all 5 to qualify what a dumb nut to begin with. If I could goes back to the past then 2 or 3 would be the best answers for this but oh well Im happy because both me and my opponent wont get any point from question #10 so we are down to the last 2 different question and he is up 1 point currently.

Hows the update in man tennis though?

In women Tennis, I prefer to go with the larger success area, lol, they're so unpredictable tbh, Men Tennis is so far so good, even though it's not been a walk in the park for most of them, they all are still in, we could however see a few of them drop before Sunday, though, I probably could careless with how this turn out, I have the same answers as my opponent.

Thanks to Nigeria and Napoli I now have a two point advantage and just two questions differentials from opponent in the last five, while one of the question is the of a finest margin, he's got 3 WTA players to make it to next week while I have 0-2, he's got the edge here I'd say, but then the worse that could happen to me for this round is a draw.

Pegula and Rybakina out please so I can sit easy on that question needing only one more person out, but I'm glad CLS63 chose all 5 to go through so the worst I can do is draw on that one Wink I was actually expecting Swiatek and Coco out first, but I take anyone willing to leave early Smiley
~snip

Rybakina is still in
after losing break, she got it back, and won second set
just to lose third game in third set as well (what a coincidence), and it is now 4:4 in third set, basically anything can happen as I type

since I need all of them to win all matches, maybe it is more likely to hope that two more will exit till Sunday, so cryptofrka and I draw on that question
edit: Rybakina just lost ninth game, so 4:5, Blinkova serve for the match
edit2: shitshow, Blinkova lost her serve, but Rybakina lost another one as well, so Blinkova serve for the match one more time

Rybakina is out!

This is the longest tie break I've ever witnessed in WTA tennis, 22-20 for Blinkova Holy smoke!!! Both players keep tossing the match point towards each and failing to take, Rybakina with ranking had the up hand even during the tie break she had way too many match on serve, it was even on 2 serves at a point, but she just couldn't find the break through, who is the next line to exited ? Coco, Iga or Sabalenka, I'd vote Sabalenka  Cheesy

If we had been asked to answer the WTA just like ATP, I most definitely would have had Pegula on a No, too bad Ons Jabeur is out of the top 5, she would have made my answer much more easier since she got eliminated in a similar fashion too.

didn't expected to see Pegula out, and she actually had first break in both sets, but could not stick on it
my pick to get out was Rybakina, hopefully she will stay in

as per schedule, all remaining have two matches till Sunday morning (Rybakina will complete three matches till then, all other players will get to four)
important point is on the line here, but two other are lining today for me
Ivory Coast to beat Nigeria, in a 1:1 AFCON tournament so far (5 draws first round, four 1:1), and Viola to get through in Super cup

edit: Rybakina is down in second set as well, after 40:0 she lost five consecutive points on her serve, is that even possible for top player

Welcome to the WTA where rankings often is nothing but a number and form is almost everything, Rybakina have restored parity and the game is heading towards a deciding set, but it's still anyone's game even though the odds are in favour of Rybakina.

I'll for the line up before calling my shot on the Super Eagles, but I doubt I'll be able to take a stance because of allegiance and bias, my perception will likely be skewed.

WTA is like a box of chocolate you never know what you're gonna get. Here goes Iga stinking up the joint. Goddammit!!!

Iga Swiatek was able to overcome the early setback from the second set, but here we go with Pegula!!

Jessica Pegula just got booted out of Australian Open by Burel in straight freaking set, I watched the game from beginning to the end, Pegula had an early to begin the game, but end up losing 6-4, 6-2, unbefreakinglievable, but that's by the way, now I need the double fault queen (Sabalenka and one other top 5 to drop before sunday  Grin Cheesy)

Iga's a beast!! Now here goes Pegula that I had a feeling would be the first top seed to get booted. Going against the gut as usual might cost me a point here SMH.

If we had been asked to answer the WTA just like ATP, I most definitely would have had Pegula on a No, too bad Ons Jabeur is out of the top 5, she would have made my answer much more easier since she got eliminated in a similar fashion too.

No, they always overperform. Football, handball, waterpolo... I think they start out knowing they're not the best, get really far, and then eventually quality and overall technique cost them the ultimate prize.

Just like Cro2 *cough cough cough*

That's some really bold shade on our fellas man!

However, I couldn't help but agree more given how much of big talker Frka was before the beginning of dinning with big dawgs, but here we are, and his twin also needed a freebie in this round from the Sheriff to stay quite head above waters  Grin

I don't know what to expect from the Cote d'Ivore vs Nigeria today in AFCON, I didn't watch the first game so I can't make too much of conclusion, but I sure wouldn't be missing a minute of the thriller today, I have my arse on the line for the match  Lips sealed

S. Barnes 25+ PRA / S. Barnes 2+ stocks @1.64

Masai Ujiri's fire sale/roster overhaul continues, with Pascal Siakam becoming the latest to be traded, this time to Indiana.

Barnes may be the longest-tenured Raptor right now, and he's only 22...(so, it turns out C. Boucher is the only player left from the 18/19 championship squad, at least for now...lol).

I don't usually bet on teams that have recently made a trade, but Barnes' numbers look solid, and with Siakam gone, this is too nice a spot to pass up.

Barnes has hit 25+ PRA in 9/L10, averaging close to 30 PRA in that span. He's hit 2+ stocks (steals+blocks) in 9/L10 as well.

This is a very logical pick to follow and go all in on, other than the fact that I'm not much of a Blocks/Steals guy, especially with how the NBA call or determines which one is what.

That said, this Toronto team is literally a Scottie Barnes team right now and almost everything will be centered around him for the foreseeable future, I however don't see this team being able challenge or go very deep into the post season with this roster, I'm hope I could be proved wrong, though!

What a comeback from Spain. Grin Grin

It was silly. so silly

The score was 10-8 up to the 3rd quarter and I believe it was still 0-0 on 5th minutes on 4th quarter then Spain score a goal ( Im not even sure if it called as a goal in water polo ), I thought to myself its good because Croatia is still leading the game. Bam they scored the 2nd and its not looking good right now but hey its tied and it was on 8th minutes so the quarter was going to be over then somehow Spain scored the 3rd. 2024 has been pretty unlucky so far for me  Roll Eyes

Is it safe to say Croatia just aren't built for Gold Medals on the grandest of stages ?

I was confident going with Spain knowing they lost one of their group games and I almost had them in the previous week question to not qualify, but seeing how they turn things around, it's was only logical that I give them benefit of the doubt to triumph here, which they did, so regardless of the result, if feels good to have started from where I left last week 2 of 2 so far for this round.

Oh, sheriff, what have you done? You gave easy points to Trofo, your nemesis.

This is literally the headline for the next BSFL article, I can't believe the Sheriff fell asleep on duty, especially with the villains around town, what excuse could he possibly have ?

Damn, submitting tennis is.. hard. Will they play 2 matches or 3, a lot depends on it - and it is impossible to calculate it.

I just sat down to submit and it feels like it will take me at least 15 minutes to properly investigate. I can't allow myself to make any mistakes here.

I really didn't calculate that much or how many games they will play, because unforeseen circumstances like rain could come into play, but if you just search on Google or tennis explorer, there is a schedule for each round, for example in the WTA, the 2nd round will begin tomorrow and will continue on Thursday, while you the most they have for either Friday and Saturday is the 3rd round, so each player would play at least 4 matches before the supposed week ends.

Below is a proper infographic that explains it better;

Alongside sad news that a driver has passed after an earlier accident. Dakar is hellish and the drivers who brave it are something else.

It's such heart wreaking news, I saw a blogpost about it and I was like what the hell ? If lives are at stake even by minute of chances, I think such a sport or at least locations with such risks should be curb at the very least or extreme safety measures should be put in place, it's already so tough a world that we are losing lives over meaningless wars and conflicts or some new virus and shits!, Sports being one of the very few social activities that unites everyone should never be another cause of losing lives  Sad  Sad

----------------------------

I had my answers saved since Sunday, and ready for submission but somehow my opponent's mojo was about to work on me because I literally forgot that I was yet to submit, it took checking the spreadsheet to see If I have submitted to find out that my name wasn't on the list, a lucky escape for me.

It is really surprising to see jeremypwr in the relegation area this season after he finished both of last 2 seasons in top 3. Let's see if he and his team will be able to stay in the league by collecting sufficient number of points in the remaining 4 weeks. After consecutive losses I'm very happy that I managed to get 3 points after a tough challenge against LTU_btc.

What is more surprising to me is the fact that he has a solid lead in the LaLiga pool and in the BSFL he can't get out of the relegation zone. A month or so ago I was right behind him in the LaLiga pool but after a few lousy rounds I fell behind.

This round I'm again up against a close team on the table - mv1986. After suffering a big loss against Harkorede I hope he will continue a losing streak Grin

There is saying that there is no champion forever, that's the why the relegation battle is between guys that are usually fight the 1st position.

I'm also facing a though opponent as well, in mitchr4 who is currently 4th placed, and that was my spot for both season 1 and season 2, a win here should make that goal a more realistic feat to attain this season again.

Bucks had lots of lapses this game, although they were at point took a good lead but they allowed the Kings to come back from a double digit deficit. This game even went to overtime, and Kings led early, but DAME TIME destroyed the spread, although they won but it was only 1 point, if that went to another OT, bucks might have win and covered.
The Kings didn't want to let go and I thought the Bucks would surely cover when I saw them leading by double digits in the fourth quarter.  Tongue

I'll also take the Jazz spread since they've been dominating at home and have one of the best records in covering spreads (15-4), while the Pacers are expected to regress without Haliburton.

Jazz have been very good lately having got all their injured players back, and they're one of the teams playing beyond expectation recently, and the streak should continue against the Pacer, I'd agree!

-7.5 for Utah Jazz sound pretty cool, so I'll be tailing you on that!

I've also got Oklahoma City Thunder -1.5 against the Lakers @ 1.89
