681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: November 10, 2023, 02:36:44 AM
I had a similar argument against someone before about self custody and how the government wants to take this away from us. It appears this thread might teach him.

There are also news updates that treasury officials want congress to help fight against the illegal use of the cryptospace. If congress agrees then there might have more laws against self custody, there will be stricter KYC and there will certainly be a certain classification of people who will be banned from using the cryptospace.

However, everything from the treasury department is allegedly without the promise of showing proof.

A senior Treasury Department official said the Biden administration wants new powers from Congress to aid in a crackdown on the illicit use of cryptocurrencies, citing digital asset flows allegedly connected to Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Treasury has been in communication with Democrats and Republicans about actions that they could take, Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said Tuesday in Washington at the annual meeting of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, a trade group.

682  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hong Kong regulators might allow spot ETF on: November 10, 2023, 01:49:14 AM
@bittraffic. The argument is it is overhyped because the pump has occured before there was an approval and this might be something similar to a sell the news occurrence if it is approved.

However, agreed. Bitcoin will skyrocket later after approval when ETF issuers begin twapping hehehe.

Also, it appears Ethereum might also get a spot ETF.

BlackRock, one of the world’s biggest asset managers, officially filed its Spot Ethereum ETF with Nasdaq today. The company’s plan was revealed in a filing by the U.S. exchange where BlackRock will seek to list the product.

684  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: November 08, 2023, 02:52:20 AM
@JayJuanGee. Binance is the natural next target heheheh. However, this case on CZ and Binance might be something similar to Tether, Bitfinex and iFinex. There were many rumors and fud, however, there was nothing, they were not true or their team members are experts in escaping and supported by powerful backers. I was also one of the people who thought that a takedown on Tether was possible. It appears that I have made a mistake.

In any case, I speculate that CZ and Justin Sun are secretly backed by China also. This might be why they will never be taken down.
685  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase delisting BSV :) on: November 08, 2023, 02:37:21 AM
They are not technically delisting BSV since they already delisted this shitcoin back in 2021 and people weren't able to trade it ever since; they are just removing it from their platform entirely meaning it will no longer show up in users' wallets either. Which is surprising that they have kept this shitcoin in their database for this long. Maybe they still hoped it would recover or something so they could re-list it again?

https://financefeeds.com/coinbase-suspends-bitcoin-sv-trading-double-spending-attack/

This is headshaking behavior listing a cryptocoin that is known to be created and developed by a scammer. I am very aware that many altcoins can be argued as scams similar to what many maximalists are doing, however, this BSV is a different type. This is worse than FTX and Luna. The founder is telling everyone he is the inventor of bitcoin and many people trust him hehehehe.

If everyone wants uncle Gary to approve the ETF, I reckon exchanges should show that they can be responsible and show that they are helping stop the word of Craig the clown from spreading.
686  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hong Kong regulators might allow spot ETF on: November 08, 2023, 01:20:04 AM
Every country is going to have to offer their people a Bitcoin spot ETF in the future. Not doing so would be hurting themselves financially and their future prospects. Even though Vanguard claims they never will, I’m sure they too will not be able to resist the fees and cries of their customers to bring a Bitcoin spot ETF product to market.

Agreed, however, the question I am presenting is whether the only modest take up of the futures ETF in America and in Hong Kong could be taken as a precedent for the spot ETF's performance. I reckon if thr answer is yes or maybe then similar to @Tytanowy Janusz's speculation, the effect of the spot ETFs on bitcoin might be overhyped.
687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 Oscar Awards bets and discussions on: November 07, 2023, 04:48:05 AM
Regarding the ones that will probably be nominated, so far I watched Past Lives and Anatomy of A Fall and while both are good movies, I liked former more and so far it has been the most I saw this year. I am waiting for Oppenheimer and Killers of The Flower Moon to come on streaming sites while The Killer (the one I am very interested in because its Fincher's movie) is coming to Netflix in a few days (November 8th).

You should add Napoleon in your list of movies to watch. It will be released in cinemas on November 22. If this movie was created to be inspirational and if it can get your sympathy for the leading character then this movie might have the capability to win some awards as an underdog very much similar to Coda.

Also, as I have mentioned already, a Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix partnership has similar chances to win awards as Martin Scorsese and Leonardo di Caprio partnership hehehehe. The last movie of Ridley Scott with Joaquin is the Gladiator which won awards including best movie and best actor.
688  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Kraken to turn over select customer data to IRS after July court loss on: November 07, 2023, 03:24:40 AM
@larry_vw_1955. If the question is if the IRS could do anything to a company that does not have any type of presence under America's jurisdiction, I reckon not directly and it would be very complicated. It would be much easier for them to enforce the rules on American citizens.

However, is Kraken not an exchange based in San Francisco, California? The founder Jesse Powell is also an American, I reckon.
689  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: November 07, 2023, 02:42:54 AM
@Rikafip. Yes we can be quite certain he was not alone on this. It might also not only be with the help of his parents. It would not be shocking if it was with the help of the influencial people his parents are connected to.

This is a documentary on FTX created by James Jani. There are things mentioned in this that we might never find the answers like the moneylaundering activities by politicians and other questionable people.

690  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase delisting BSV :) on: November 07, 2023, 01:19:13 AM
Considering the fact that the bitcoin community is fighting against the faketoshi, this is a big win and I still think its relevant to this section.
Edit: the mods moved it anyway

Agreed. However, why did exchanges list this BSV? It is head shaking because everyone knew already that it is a scam. The listing might have given it an appearance that it was being supported in the community. This is how scams trick people. If it is listed in reputable exchanges then it might not be a scam type of attitude.
691  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hong Kong regulators might allow spot ETF on: November 07, 2023, 12:25:36 AM
There are many spot etfs in many countries already this is nothing new. I think somewhere in Europe there was a bitcoin etf from maybe 5 years back.

USA and the sec is the only country pretty much that refuses to launch one and we don’t know why. Look at how many stocks go bankrupt like Bed bath and beyond and they head to $0 while they think that bitcoin network might stall and the etf will go to $0, highly unlikely.

In many countries? How many and what are these countries? I am quite certain that there are not many countries offering spot ETFs for bitcoin or other cryptocoins. Also, if it is a spot ETF in a developing country with a small market, we can also be quite certain that it will not have effect on the whole market.

On Bed Bath and Beyond, you cannot compare hehehe. I do not know the story but the stock goes to 0 because the company behind the stock went bankrupt and if a company goes bankrupt, they are ordered to delist their stock from the stock market.

In an case, back on topic, can the data on the take up on futures ETF be used as precedent for how much the take might be for the spot ETF?
692  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Kraken to turn over select customer data to IRS after July court loss on: November 06, 2023, 04:38:42 AM
The exchange will be required to report information on customers who transacted more than $20,000 between 2016 and 2020.

https://cryptoslate.com/kraken-to-turn-over-select-customer-data-to-irs-after-july-court-loss/

I think 2016 was when there was no rules about crypto from the IRS. You could just buy and sell BTC without paying any taxes or anything. Problem is, at some point maybe 2018 or 19, the IRS started coming down hard on Americans. They wanted to know if they were involved in crypto - making them check a box on their tax return if they were. Now they're going to find out who was honest and who wasn't.   Shocked

This is an interesting situation since Kraken is not an american company they are outside the USA. yet the IRS can still tell them what to do and they can't do anything about it.

However, if they are operating under the jurisdiction of America and also accept American customers then American tax laws should and will be imposed on Kraken or the exchange will be cracked down and ordered to stop offering their services in the country.

Nothing is certain except death and taxes.
693  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: November 06, 2023, 04:17:08 AM
@o48o. Agreed, however, until the sentence is given and considering Sam's parents have connections with the top politicians and leaders of the Democtratic party I will not be shocked if there was a plot twist.

In any case, the cryptospace is a very crazy place. Similar to what the people in social media are saying, Sam was a pump and dump. A billionaire at 29 years old to being bankrupt and jailed in less than 1 year hehehehe.
694  Economy / Speculation / Hong Kong regulators might allow spot ETF on: November 06, 2023, 03:36:20 AM
Investment funds, insitutional investment firms and whales located in Asia will have their own chance on speculating in a spot bitcoin ETF without the need for an American financial institution if spot ETFs are approved.

However, there is something mentioned in the article that implies that spot ETFs might not be as bullish as we might expect. It is mentioned that the take up on futures ETF in Hong Kong has only been modest. I assume the take up on futures ETF in America has also only been modest? Can the data on bitcoin futures ETF be used as a precedent on how strong or weak spot ETFs might be?

The city is weighing retail-investor access to such spot ETFs providing regulatory concerns are met, Securities and Futures Commission Chief Executive Officer Julia Leung said.

The crypto sector sees ETFs as a way of making digital assets more mainstream since the funds are readily available to a variety of investors. Bitcoin has surged 110% this year partly on expectations that the likes of BlackRock Inc. will soon win permission to start the first US spot ETFs for the token.

Both Hong Kong and the US currently allow futures-based crypto ETFs, but the take-up has been modest compared to the overall size of the fund industry. The Asian city current lists the Samsung Bitcoin Futures Active, CSOP Bitcoin Futures and CSOP Ether Futures ETFs. They have combined assets of about $65 million.

695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FTX CEO Sam Bankman Fried found guilty on: November 06, 2023, 02:45:37 AM
Also, I am one of those who speculate that Sam might get only a few years in prison or end in suicide like Jeffery Epstein. However, is this moving the goal post?

From spending only 6 months in home arrest and then enjoying all his life billions as you were saying  to him getting whacked in a prison cell, and all this being the same, that's pretty much moving the goalposts.
Why can't you simply accept that not everything needs to be some goddamn conspiracy?

It is what it is and things like this have happened for centuries, there were scammers who were even granted royal decrees and orders, and things like this will keep happening without any reptilian masterminds behind them, it's just because there are some con artists that are pretty good at what they are doing.

No, it is only a speculation that Sam might have too much information on the Democrats' moneylaundering apparatus. The Democrats might have to help him or kill him.

Yeah yeah! The same thing over and over, the ones dealing with billions, controlling the world, controlling the banks, the global economy, are so stupid to use the stupidest guy running a Ponzi scheme exchange to launder their money in with it! All those guys in such high places doing billions in money laundering were not able to tell something was wrong and they left some guy doing drugs with 20 hommies running their business?

Seriously, how high do you have to be to believe this crap even for a second?

@Rikafip. It appears that @stompix has not understood what type of different settings are being argued in this forum. He is very annoyed at me for speculating what possbilities might occur that would give the viewers much action, drama, comedy, romance and the shocking plot twists hehehehe.

@stompix. We know Sam will go to prison and we accept this. We are only discussing different settings in the storyboard like this is a movie hehe.
696  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 Oscar Awards bets and discussions on: November 06, 2023, 02:28:59 AM
In short, the Oscar Awards seem close... but it is the awards season that adjusts the reality of the "@" although they say otherwise many betting houses, which remain "stuck" with these initial "@."

Then, awards season can make our bet more precise, consequently Oppenheimer being the candidate for these Oscar Awards, but be careful, eh!

The list of awards is longer than indicated, without a doubt they are the most important awards, Golden Globe Awards, Directors Guild, Screen Actors Guild, I would add:
Independent Spirit Awards, Critic's Choice among others but one that closes strongly is the Bafta. So no matter what the "@" says, awards season better defines where the real winners are and still, surprises happen at the Oscar Awards.

You are correct, the Bafta awards is another important date. I will add this. However, the Bafta have a different set of voters with a different inspiration than the members of the Academy of motion pictures arts and sciences. There might be some similarities in the nominations but there are small differences in which movies in each categories are voted as the winners. The best director, the best actor and the best movie might go to Christopher Nolan, Cilian Murphy and Oppenheimer in the Bafta for very clear reasons hehehe. However, the Oscars might vote differently.
697  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FTX CEO Sam Bankman Fried found guilty on: November 05, 2023, 06:23:25 AM
And for almost a year all I could hear on this forum was
...
Well, some of us were trying to be reasonable amidst all those conspiracy theorists. The moment his ex -gf got a deal and ratted him out, it was pretty obvious how this will end up.

I wonder what the next move of the nay-sayers will be because god forbid we would have an instance where the system works.
As you can see, now they move goalpost to SBF getting only few years in prison.

Agreed. We can only react after new information is given and reported to the community very much similar to when a speculation that FTX was going to bite the dust. In the beginning, only very few expected that it would really bite the dust. However, after new information came out, it became clearer. It is very much a similar reaction in this thread.

Also, I am one of those who speculate that Sam might get only a few years in prison or end in suicide like Jeffery Epstein. However, is this moving the goal post? 698  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 Oscar Awards bets and discussions on: November 05, 2023, 06:07:20 AM
@electronicash. This Barbie movie is only trying to have a meaningful message, however, @Saint-loup is right. This movie is only a big commercial for a toy company very much similar to many other of these common cartoon shows.

In any case, on your question on which story usually win an Oscar in best movie category, you only need to look at the 5 last best movies. Everything Everywhere, Coda, Nomadland, Parasite and Greenbook. They are stories about family, growing up, being connected, perseverance and friendship. All of them are inspirational movies except for Parasite.

The favorite Oppenheimer is not very inspirational, I reckon.
699  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 05, 2023, 05:24:14 AM
@owengtam09, @YuginKadoya. It appears these Scandanavian Vikings should not be underestimated hehehe. They are the most strongest and they are almost unbreakable warriors in the history of human beings. The Brazilians live in sunny areas of the world where there is animals to be hunted, fish and fruits everywhere. Their life is easy. The people of Denmark, Sweden and Norway were people who sailed on their ships to invade other villages to get food because food is not very abundant.

I reckon the Brazilian was the biggest favorite for this event against the Viking warrior? I shake my head hehehe. We should never underestimate any human if they have Vinking's blood flowing in their veins.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles will certainly be a very good game! @everyone, what would be your bets for this if you were forced to bet the winner. I reckon the Cowboys should not be underestimated and this is also is this the first time for Dak Prescott vs. Jalen Hurts to play against each other?

The defenses of both of these teams are also very good, however, the Eagles' defense is moderately better. I might put Tony Pollard on the bench hehehee.
