XEM is getting hit hard right now, crypto is all about surprises.
Day traders moving funds to DASH and Qibuck to ride their pumps i expect.

wish i would have participated when the stakes were nearly for free, but i bought some now.

Yes me too. But to be honest I thought NEM looked like a scam because they only used NXT to organize an ICO. I am not saying anything bad about NXT, in fact I am a supporter of that too. There was too many assets that did not deliver their promise in the NXT asset exchange so I thought NEM would be one of them.

That is another good opportunity lost.

I bought my stake on the NXT AE, cost me about 16K NXT.

Looking good guys...  Cheesy
704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN/DISCUSSION] Silk Network: Silk, DarkSilk and Weaver on: August 10, 2016, 11:51:14 PM
I wonder how many people involved in the scene are actual crypto enthusiasts wanting the paradigm to shift and how many people are involved for just a quick buck.....

Well you know my stance because I don't need any exchange...  There's one answer for you...  When you have something really good, you don't need exchanges, the exchanges will come to you...  Boom... Mic drop!

Well thats right and money talks, if the marketcap spikes after launch you will see Polo adding them...

Seems to be quite a bump in nem trading activity over the last couple of days.
Price has risen a bit, but I was never much concerned about price, the volume is what is making me happy. We've been at over 500k in volume the last 2 days, which is outstanding, shows that there is interest and people are actively buying and selling, which can only be good for the future of the coin, if some of these new developments come to light down the road.

It's a pretty hefty jump from the lull of the last few weeks, we had been hovering around 100k volume and losing marketcap. Nem actually gained about 6 mil in marketcap the last 2 days. I'm hoping this coin stays in the forefront and on people's minds in the coming months and is able to rebound big time off a new announcement and maybe get the kickstart it needs to go mainstream.

I agree, we are getting plenty of attention (in the right areas) and a good amount of XEM is changing hands each day, hopefully more newcomers will continue to buy, as IMO this is the most attractive (and fair) opportunity in crypto currently.

I dont see any viable alternatives and Ethereum is in a mess, even if ETC surpasses ETH, its still not perfect.
706  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH GETTING DUMPED HARD!!!! on: August 10, 2016, 09:22:35 AM
Looks like ETC is loosing the battle, its market cap has dropped quite a bit last week.

Perhaps miners will switch over again when its more profitable, either way i dont see ETH switching to POS any time soon.

agree. though with the price dropping all the time does not make me feel secure about trading this coin. I am just trading it because I already bought in before it dropped. I am moving it little by little till it is gone then I might buy in again when it stops dropping.

are you new to crypto coin scene marcus_v and how long have you been messing with crypto coins?

Anticipating foundation of NEM legal entity.
Just curious what other coin/blockchain founded its own legal entity.

bitcoin and ripple from what I can tell

What about the Ethereum Foundfation?

Just buy bits at a time and hold and forget about the short term cost, I tend to stay away from day trading anything as thats when i have always lost.

Is there any connection between DistributedLab and NEM developers? DL seems to claim so: http://distributedlab.com/ournem/

Interesting claim they make, perhaps they were involved early on in the peace?
710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: August 08, 2016, 09:08:44 PM
Please take note of the follwing threads in the NEM forum:

1) Realignment of funds discussion:
https://forum.nem.io/t/realignment-of-nem-funds-discussion/2685

2) Legal entity vote:
https://forum.nem.io/t/legal-entity-vote/2698

I suggest every Nem holder reads this. Vote deadline is August 14th and All community funds are being transferred to this legal entity. The legal entity will not only control the funds but actually own them to do as they wish.  Vote is also done by importance so those with most importance (NEM)(DEVS)win. No info on who who is involved in this Legal entity and If, how much they will be paid, expense accounts etc. Its supposed to be non-profit and that is the ideal but " but NEM shall also need to be sustainable in the long run. Hence, NEM shall be a hybrid model" . No idea what this means.

Please do not make conjectures. Ask if you have doubts. Making conjectures is fud.

Today, the funds in the non-entity of NEM is controlled by 8 core members. They can run with the fund too and it can collapse.

The legal entity gives it a protection layer as it cannot run away with the funds so easily as it binds the trustees of the fund to the law.

Making decisions to use the funds are explicity spelt out how they are going to be used to promote the 10 focus areas as described here: http://blog.nem.io/a-major-announcement/

THe 10 focus areas are:

  • Setting up regional presence
  • Organising NEM blockchain technology events
  • Collaborating with educational institutions
  • Collaborating with Government agencies to define standards
  • Collaborating with commercial entities to further develop its use.
  • Setting up a centre of excellence and to be headed by our very own core developers
  • Setting up a consulting arm to consult on matters relating to the technology and provide such services to businesses at large that will use the NEM blockchain technology
  • Acquiring and promoting intellectual properties from its community and working with them to promote such intellectual properties to global businesses
  • Spawning new ventures, and where possible, by providing technology and financial assistance
  • Providing for scholarships and internship for brilliant and world class students

How the funds will be used will be decided as before. Nothing has changed.

How the funds will be disbursed have always been done by the 8 core members without the need to answer to anyone. How the funds will be used in future will need corporate governance, and simply using funds at will, can land some people in jail. Simple as that. We are putting check and balance into the system. It can only be better, not worse.

Finally, the legal entity is not only a legal entity per se. It will comprise of members, pretty much like a foundation, but the word foundation is not the right description, more so a society in nature. There will be members there who will cast their votes for any major investments.

In the initial stage, this will be very much guided by the core team. The initial stage is expected to be 10 years and by which time, we hope to achieve a proper legacy for all to follow.

Let's hope this will clear some air.

Edit: Please note that the whole question in the end is the community fund. The rest of the fund has always been autonomously decided by the core. So really, the question is the community fund.

Another point to be made, the structure is two tier, trustee tier and society tier.  Society is run by executives who are entrusted to run and execute what has been decided collectively between the members of the society (presumably the nembers here), the executives and the board of trustees. In short, it is not without any check and balance.

Thanks for this update. Explains alot and i dont see any problem with this.
711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Altcoin to invest in for 2016 and WHY on: August 06, 2016, 06:32:57 AM
There is well less than a dozen "coins" out there that have a real chance of success.
The rest are just crap cut and paste shitcoins.
712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: August 05, 2016, 10:49:14 PM
cant log in into my xem wallet, the message says localhost 8989, and ncc is not runing, anyone can help?

Are you saying NEM is INSOLVENTHuh  Huh

i say that i cant log in to my wallet

Do you see the icon showing on the taskbar by the clock?

Its possible Java is not working properly or else your firewall is blocking it.
713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: August 05, 2016, 04:38:36 AM
NEM developers celebrating the destruction and withering away of $FIAT by watching XEM satoshi fall down to new lows?   Huh  No wonder they called this a Communist coin!  Shocked

All this drama while the price is near 3x the level it was two months ago?

and  more than 20x the price of one year ago.

You have a good point. Also there is nothing to be gained by being greedy. Give a chance for others to get in at a good price. The more the merrier and hopefully everyone will make money and be happy with NEM. This a natural state in the market cycle so do not worry.

I agree, and im for one happy that its settled down to an affordable price for more people to buy more who may have missed.

I have made far too many mistakes in the past when panic selling various crypto from reading FUD and watching charts, only to find it shoots up after i sell.

Just sit, hold and be patient and remember you are holding a long term investment.
Those that want a quick buck should not be here, this is not their game.
714  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Altcoin to invest in for 2016 and WHY on: August 04, 2016, 10:19:10 PM
Food for thought on the FUD... No one here, mentioned steem - even though it's inflation. It don't matter it provides value to people that hasn't been done before - this is real innovation. Not some coin that  plays pure on  philosophy.  These cryptos need to serve a purpose and provide real value to humans or they will never launch. I ain't a fan boy but Bitcoin and steem provide value to people by serving a roll. Ones internet gold, the other pays people to write the dumbest shit.  Ether was pure speculation, they never served a pragmatic purpose to people in the real world.

I don't fully understand STEEM, despite reading quite a few articles on it so decided to steer clear of it, I can't understand how it can generate value. Seems like a very strange concept to me.

Well i dont know what to think of STEEM, but i did earn a fair bit from a blog or two, so will keep blogging, i dumped all i could into other coins.
715  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHo will win - ETH or ETC? on: August 03, 2016, 09:38:00 PM
If ETH wins actually Ethereum will lose because there is no reliability for any project related to Ethereum again. Every time something happen will they hardfork and push everybody to that without any consensus? We see how market reacts when they did it. ETC should be the living fork for Ethereum's future even though DAO made a lot of Ethereum to one person, he didn't abuse the system. It's all Slock.it and DAO's fault.

I feel exactly the same!
716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: August 03, 2016, 10:29:34 AM
I earned about $1300 from a couple of posts on steemit last week, I still have absolutely no idea where the money comes from, other than guessing its in the "locked" up funds in everyones steem power, hence why you cant sell for 2 years.

I exchanged every bit i could on Poloniex and have about $700 of steem power.

If i intend to sell this, do i have to wait 2 years first and then sell, or do i have to initiate the sale now and it will unlock automatically in 2 years time?

Perhaps it will be worth big $$$ then? Who knows? It depends if this thing takes off more than facebook or not.
717  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Safe Cryptocurrency on: August 03, 2016, 10:21:25 AM
Hi Guys,
after the Bitfinex hack I am looking for a secure cryptocurrency. Of course it will never be 100% safe but the coins with the highest volume ETC, ETH and BTC are all pretty unsafe as it seems.
Any suggestions and why?
Greetings

NEM is the answer and with multisig means that even if the exchange is hacked, your funds are safe.... Smiley Couldnt be better time to buy right now either.

However, i dont recommend keeping huge amount of funds of any currency on any exchange for a long term, withdraw as soon as you have done your exchange.
718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: August 03, 2016, 10:19:24 AM
Bitfinex Exchange hacked Sad

Never get your funds stolen again! Start using Nxt wallet and Nxt decentralized Exchange that is running securily for years!

Bitfinex Exchange hack: http://www.coindesk.com/bitfinex-shuts-down-customer-bitcoin-stolen/

Nxt: https://nxt.org

I assume this is the reason for the sudden drop in BTC value?
719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: August 03, 2016, 10:18:21 AM
Here comes the rally... 4,770 top. And counting...

I believe we could go towards setting new highs all the way to 10k sat.

But there will be bouts of sells that will bring the price down once in a while too, of course.

The ARDR scheme is working like magic. Very, very, very smart.
I dont imagine NXT increasing much, as the longer you leave it, the less ardor you get, so people wont want to spend as much if you know what i mean.

No, I don't know what you mean... The longer you leave it, the MORE ardor you get, not the other way around. That's why less, many less, people is selling and more, many more, people are buying.

I believe, like I said, NXT is an easy double from here... ardor notwithstanding. Before October. We'll see.

Im not talking about the longer you hold your NXT, i was meaning the longer you leave it to BUY NXT... Roll Eyes
720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH GETTING DUMPED HARD!!!! on: August 03, 2016, 09:32:23 AM
I think ETC is just another measure to make sure ETH permanently fails, even if ETC does too.
we have to search some other coin for us.

Its called NEM, its the only way forward, its stupidly cheap right now, few have discovered it Smiley
