721  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 25, 2012, 04:17:53 PM
you are right that there is good internal bitcoin market strength.

But stability will soon be gone...

There is not going to be a return of volatility like there was a year ago.

There is too much capital in the BitCoin economy now to allow for volatility like a year ago, it is beginning to function like a real currency, the arbitrage bots have helped stabilize price discovery and there are plenty of other places for speculators to go instead of the price of coins.

That said, for a currency it is pretty volatile with 1-3% movement in a 24 hour period being fairly common.

I agree.  I think if the price is going to go up, it's going to be slow and over a period of many, many years.

I think we still need to pass the test of the first halving in coin production.

Hard to predict the psychological effect of that, and the real effect of having less coins entering the economy.

Indeed. Can't wait to cash out Dec 2012 !
722  Economy / Speculation / Re: #1 most popular Bitcoin Price Forecasts (subscribe here: bitcoinbullbear.com) on: May 25, 2012, 04:17:27 PM
The new bitcoin weekly report is out to subscribers. "the calm before the storm"

End of month is nearing. If anyone is interested in a subscription, just PM me.

If you wear the correct goggles (intersangoGBP in this case), there is no calm:

fx markets in turmoil. If USDX (measures USD against other fiat) reverses (as it might've just started to do a couple of hours ago) and heads back down, bitcoin could go up consequently?

You are right, I also look at BTCEUR which also shows some strength

Clearly bitconica are playing with gox so as to avoid raising the USD price and only buying the cheap GBP / EUR to compensate ?

SO many decisions Cheesy

The reward drop is already prices in as it is already public knowledge.

Sure. I know better by looking at SolidCon. Price will jump Dec 2012 GUARANTEED.

He did not want to accept service but wanted to get me scammer tag and never see the BTC back.

For the record: smart1985 got all 22.5 BTC of his money back. So did Goat. Both are pretty good success stories that present the community in a favorable light.

Too bad you did not also get your 22.5 BTC back now ... What a pity !

How is that class action suit going ? I am almost ready to file for harassment, you know.
727  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GeForce GTX 680 are now available! Please post hashing results here. on: May 25, 2012, 03:51:41 PM
How do you guys thing the k10/k20 tesla's will do. K10 is dual 680's and K20 is big kepler.

Fail again most likely. Nvidia are a bunch of retards for letting AMD and their shitty drivers be the only mining GPUs.
728  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Camming Site on: May 25, 2012, 03:50:45 PM
uhm ... now in chromium@linux64 I get a channel listing but still have the problem that i can't allow/deny the peer-assist thing - unless I open the flash settings before getting asked. So for me it works but ... it's not trivial.

In FF I get it running by clearing the cache (browsing to cam4btc?bla=fu).

Same here !

Do defaults concern you?

I do not think default would be a concern if one had already earn their investment back in interest payments.

Anyone wonders why bitcoin is a scammers paradise?
Right there is the answer my friends...

Scammers paradise ?

Where is that !?

 Cheesy

Quote

I'll give you the other points as valid concerns, esp coming up toward summer, but no resale value? Really? Video cards have an entire other market that coexists (or overlaps, depending on how you look at it) with miners: gamers. You can always sell video cards. FPGAs? There is no other market for crazy fast SHA256 hashers.

I can sorta see where ur coming from, but I think you have it all wrong...

People are paying insane amounts for a BFL single right now.

Some people ordered them when they looked like a scam. Now if you want to have a single tomorrow you need to pay like $800 or more. Their value is increased compared to initial cost to buy the FPGA ( $599 ).

I would love to see you buy a 7970 from the egg for $450 and sell it on here for $650 or something.

FPGA has resale value as long as BTC is not dead ...

733  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed GCN RPC linux/windows/osx 2.4.1 on: May 25, 2012, 03:15:23 PM
They will only clock back up if the temperature drops enough again.

How long will this take ? I left them about 15 minutes after the heat stopped and the cold begun and they did not clock back automatically ( I had to do it manually ).

Thanks !
734  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Swapping cards # for RMAs. (Sapphire xtreme dying after ~1 year) on: May 25, 2012, 03:04:48 PM
I do this all the time ... that's why I am a scammer Tongue

This behaviour is driving the GPU prices up for everyone Angry

Also, don't forget to OC the card to 1100 MHz clock then when it dies blame it was DOA or it broke by itself for extra scam points !
You're an idiot.  Overclocking doesn't break cards.

That's why overclocking does not void your warranty. Idioto !
735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 25, 2012, 02:56:37 PM
Bitcoins are as much of a property as WoW Gold, potatoes or USD, you retard. The law doesn’t care what it is, as long as a contract exists.

BTW, don’t you have 25 BTC to repay?

BTC is electrons in a computer mate as far as the law is concerned or a crypto message not money or a possession.

So is a CAM file of The Avengers....

So is, USD, GBP, EUR, etc... at banks. The 'cash' is in the bank to pay out from what those 'electrons' say you have in your account.

Stop the FUD. Show me where law enforcement has been involved with BTC or shut up. BTC is nothing in the eyes of the law.

Under UK law the only thing he is guilty of is Computer Misuse Act for hacking into the systems and modifying the database to cause damages.

Do you think if they catch him he will be told to pay 18k BTC back ? LOL. BTC is not money, as much as anyone wants to believe. Would they charge him MtGox exchange rate ? How do you determine BTC exchange rate if there is no central issuer / bank ?

Police care more about pirates copying movies than our BTC and hacks ... because of corporate lobbying against file sharing etc.

Show me where BTC has gotten law enforcement involved and thus we saw that BTC is recognized as "property". Movies are "intellectual property". What is BTC so far ? Nothing.

My point is BTC has a long way to go till legal recognition and till then anyone that steals / hacks them is innocent in eyes of the law.

What happened to shakaru guy ? NOTHING, even if people knew his personal details. If they came and called him then he could file for harassment because he stole nothing at all.

Guess you haven't been around. There is a 'case' or two involving theft of BTC. They are not that hard to find.

What BTC are, is irrelevant. For Example, if BTC was 'Monopoly Money', and you had $5000.00 worth of Monopoly Money that was stolen then that is all LE needs to know.

The only possible problem, is if BTC is considered a currency. e.g. If you steal $500 USD dollars and the judge orders you to pay back, you have to give back $500 USD not BTC.  NOW, if it is considered a currency, then they don't have to give back the current exchange rate from BTC to 'traditional fiat' but just the BTC.  So, if someone steals 100 BTC worth 500 USD but then BTC drops by 50% then when they give it back it is only worth $250.

So do they give back the value of what was stolen in a currency or do they give back 'what' was stolen.

OFC, I understand why 'you' are so concerned that Law Enforcement doesn't get involved. Don't worry, 22.5 BTC isn't worth the trouble. 87,000 USD just might be though.

I have been around since May 10 2011. I know the cases of BTC theft.

I am asking you to show me a case where BTC led to prosecution. You have failed to show me one such case.

Stop trying to divert the question. Will the hacker get charged for 18K BTC theft ? Probably not like many such others.

Shakaru is living the life now with his $20k theft and nobody can do a damn thing ...

Stop trying to divert the discussion offtopic and show me one entity that has been brought to justice due to "stealing" BTC.

Not shakaru, not mybitcoin, not MrMoon, not bitcoin7, not bitomat, not bitcoinica ...

What did the security "investimagation" reveal as according to the topic title. The hacker couldn't have erased all the logs. There must be some IPs left. Where the police called to investigate ?

Maybe Rackspace had some logs left from him accessing the control panel ?
738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 25, 2012, 11:54:17 AM
Suggestion:

Offer a 18.5k BTC bounty for whoever releases a copy of the database.

The database isn't worth 18.5k.

No, it is actually worth much more than that, since quite a few people are going will be suing Bitcoinica if their balance does not satisfy them.

You better negotiate a good deal with the hacker, or you are pretty sure to be made insolvent.

Show me one case where people have been sued due to BTC otherwise you are FUDging.

Sue for USD ? Most likely but if tomorrow Intersango ran with all the BTC they had nobody could do a thing.
739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 25, 2012, 11:52:02 AM
Offer a bounty for the database ? The hacker would be most stupid to release it as that could identify him pretty quickly.

Also, it seems to me that zhoutong is not at fault here but the incompetence of "InterSCAMgo" as shadow puts it.

Too bad there are no other UK exchanges ...

* Goes to get the popcorn and claim $ 1 million on claims.bitcoinica.com *

What's up ? Cheesy

In all seriousness, how long do you think this will take ( months / weeks ) ?

This is all affecting the price even if I don't have anything in Bitcoinica.

You don't need anything in Bitcoinica when you just took them for 18K BTC ...

hey man i'm just doing what your sig told me to  Grin

Seems to me the hacker is a small group of people from which an individual should easily be identified.

Why has this not happened ? It is not like the hacker was some unknown entity out of the blue.

Read the thread : the only thing I had in the bucket shop is $1 bonus I got from zhoutong Cheesy

Not going to give my info to a bunch of incompetents to get it back anyway.
