721  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: September 23, 2014, 10:14:52 AM
The point for understanding what would be profitable is related time span: say you and i have $1000 dollars to invest, back in Feb. 2013. I put my money into bitcoin (100 BTC, $11 per one coin). You put yours into silver (~$30/oz, or about 33 oz). For today i made about $60,000. You lost about $130.

If you do the same with January 1st 2014 I am even but you lost 50%

Received the reimbursement; who would have though it would happened?

Think someone could have buy back account balances for pennies on the Dollar and make a huge profit

Congrats. Smiley

Well, there is no way you could verify the account balance or account validity back then.
Someone could claim to have an account with 1 btc when he didn't.

Apparently they have the data
723  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to search for all posts made by a certain poster? on: September 23, 2014, 10:11:32 AM
The "Show the last posts of this person." button actually shows all of your posts, though they're paginated for easier browsing. If you want to search through all of your posts, just use a Google search specifying site:bitcointalk.org and your username. You'll get posts your name was mentioned in as well, but it should be easy enough to sort through at that point.

No it is not easy because am mentioned tens of thousands of times in posts and started 29posts so have to browse hundreds of pages to find these 29posts!
724  Economy / Gambling / Re: OFFICIAL DICEBITCO.IN ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE SKIPPED NONCES INCIDENT on: September 23, 2014, 10:10:05 AM
Here is the diff for the malicious code commit, for what it's worth http://pastebin.com/anXZmNM6

Thanks. I'm surprised how small it is. All it does it changes a couple of <title> tags and adds the cheat code. I was thinking the cheat code would be buried deep among a bunch of complex unrelated changes but apparently not.

12 hours later, and a thought popped unbidden into my head:

"Hey, I know why I thought the changes would be bigger... because manl SAID they were bigger!

Remember this?

How sure can you be that this malicious ex-employee isn't currently draining the bankroll by playing with a leaked seed?

We rolled back the admin update that it was deployed with the buggy code with an older version(lesser features and more PITA for us to do things but works and its made by us).

Rolling back the update resulted in "lesser features and more PITA for us to do things". But the patch that was presented here did nothing other than change the <title> tags and make the site skip some winning nonces.

Funny how the brain works isn't it?

WOW, hand in the cookie jar

Crap. I totally forgot to get my payment. What do I do? Wait for next month or PM stunna?

I'd PM Stunna, as far as I can see the sig. campaign is now closed for anyone that isn't a staff member.

Here is a post from Stunna he posted September 16th, not sure if you've seen it.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=291387.msg8850779#msg8850779

It would be better to change the title and first message of the thread as well, Stunna will probably do it soon

Hope to be able to enter the fixed rate campaign if one is launched

727  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin up. on: September 22, 2014, 10:12:51 PM
Do you have any target on gold/silver cypherdoc ?
I have to admit that i didn't believe you back in July, even if a correction clearly made sense.
Now the real question is where the bottom will be... We're not there yet, i do think PM will go down with stocks, and the correction in stocks should happen (soon ?).

Gaud, the last thing i want to do is create another massive thread like the "Gold-I smell a trap" one over in Economics that went on for 5 months.  it was just too much work.  most ppl here into gold/silver won't like what i have to say so don't bother reading further.

my views haven't changed.  i think gold/silver is a relic of the past and Bitcoin will assume its place as a new standard.  i think gold drops to $400.  i think that we are about to embark on a massive debt deleveraging phase which will be deflationary and take stocks down with it to test the March 09 lows at least.  we may drift a few more days higher in the Dow before it rolls over.  i see divergences everywhere but especially with the Transports, Russell, and ALL commodities like oil, natural gas, wheat, corn, rice, soybeans, copper and gold/silver.  the silver chart especially is busted.  the general mining stocks are telegraphing hard times ahead like FCX, TCK, BHP.  the junior miners have been devastated as in GDXJ.  GDX is following it down.

there's a good chance Wall St and the Fed are desperately trying to manipulate the Dow higher to get retail investors back in but don't buy it.  once we roll they will sell/short you into oblivion.  the Vix did an underthrow today once again to try and create complacency.

i'm going to try and not say much more as i could be wrong and i know the gold bugs are going to start swarming with the hate.

Gold has qualities that Bitcoin doesn't have and Gold has been a store of value and exchange for thousands of years; it will still be the case for the foreseeable future or should I say for "a considerable time" to talk like Yellen

The FED is still buying up assets and its balance sheet is still growing; we are yet to see what would happened if it was trying to reduce it!
728  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: September 22, 2014, 10:07:56 PM
I would not be surprised if we see 10k before the end of this year.

It is possible but let's say it is very unlikely

There are reasons for the price to be low but we will see reasons for the price to go up soon enough; maybe in the second quarter of 2015 Wink
729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Very interesting points on Bitcoin by a great Economist on: September 22, 2014, 10:06:57 PM
peter schiff is not an idiot, infact you have to imply reverse psychology to see his true motives..

everyone knows he is a gold hoarder, and if he was really seing a large investment return on gold, he would hoard HIS gold and get people to buy gold on gold markets to get the price to increase.

now for the reverse psychology.
if he sells you HIS GOLD then its not because he loves gold and wants you to join his love for it. its because he wants to dump his hoard. also to note by accepting bitcoins, shows that HE WANTS bitcoins. why else swap gold for bitcoins unless he secretly prefers it.

http://www.europacmetals.com/ has very low fees and doesn't sell Schiff's gold, Schiff is probably having more gold than ever

Also, while Peter Schiff is no idiot, he's also not a "great Economist" by any stretch. He's more just an ardent gold-bug with standard gold-bug arguments and rhetoric.

Anyone remember when he went on a tirade about bitcon's divisibility being the same thing as supply-inflation? That's just bad math and bad thinking (note: his brother Andrew told me in person that he doesn't know what Peter's hang up there is).

Schiff is sometimes wrong but his record is great : dotcom then housing bubble previsions, QE going to go on and get bigger or more recently when he said the price to pay for the form to renounce to your American nationality was going to go up (http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2014/08/28/u-s-hikes-fee-to-renounce-citizenship-by-422/)

He is a business man and a good one but he is mostly an advocate of sound money and austrian economics to fight the witchcraft/wishful thinking economics of the likes of marx, keynes or nowadays thomas piketty
730  Economy / Gambling / Re: What is the best bitcoin casino? on: September 22, 2014, 08:21:17 PM
There are many dice sites out there but only few are worth a try, the best ones are Dicebitco.in and primedice.

There have been some allegations that Dicebitco.in is scamming its users (it all starts from here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=716312.msg8714251#msg8714251), and their bitcointalk account has got negative trust score (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=355700).

PD is suppose to be safe (see signature)

Other casinos are offering more games and different design but are less trusted
731  Economy / Economics / Re: Worst bitcoin decision you've ever made? on: September 22, 2014, 08:20:24 PM
Oh I've made quite a few BIG mistakes when dealing with Bitcoin:
1.  Downloading Bitcoin client in 2010 and trying to send to an email address...then saying FUCK it.  I didn't take another good look at Bitcoin until late 2012.
2.  Spending 103-106.6 BTC on a Batch 3 Avalon from Yifu Guo (I STILL SHOULD FILE A LAW-SUIT AGAINST HIM.)
3.  Icarus FPGA trade-ins (16 BTC down the drain)  again to Yifu Guo
4.  Letting my friend run my GPU mine (he didn't take it seriously and machines would be down for days).

In retrospect, there were many obstacles or issues when getting into Bitcoin.  I've even received ransom emails by malicious people.

On the other-hand, the experience was quite rewarding:
-I created a very successful business
-I paid off all my debt
-I am on a track of entrepreneurship and enlightenment

All in all...a very unique and valuable life experience.

Very interesting story; the real frustrating thing is when you make a lot of money and lost/spend it all and then you don't make this kind of money anymore

If you changed your life for the better because of Bitcoin it is huge; of course it would have been better if you could have make the best out of it by being more concentrated on it and less careless

734  Economy / Economics / Re: Global Financial Crisis scenarios on: September 22, 2014, 08:14:46 PM

The financial crisis took out a few players (banks / investment banks) in the credit market. The absence of these financial intermediaries would have resulted in lower credit being available to main street. Rates would also have risen, with banks not willing to take on additional risk. QE was supposed to ensure that this did not happen, by making ample liquidity available in the system.

So, in the worst case, QE just didn't work out since there was not much demand for credit from the "main street", but it didn't make it worse either, right?

It hasn't made it worse, but its efficacy was low.

QE and low interest rates postponed the crisis but it is going to be worse and will probably end up in hyper inflation and wars
I really don't see QE and wars being linked, especially since most of the modernized world has engaged in some kind of QE (neither wars fought with military or economic/trade wars). Also the fact that banks are keeping the majority of the money they get from QE as excess reserves at the federal reserve is preventing inflation from getting out of hand.

Fiat allows bigger and more expensive wars; QE and low interest rates is a way not to be honest about the situation and to hide the problems for a while; when the problems will come back and be bigger, the politicians will not accept it and say they were wrong.
QE+low interest rates manipulate the markets heavily which can come back in the form of frustration, protests or wars.

In the US the politicians tend to regulate for the big banks and the big corporations such as the military industry; wars are good for the former so wars are made. Politicians are often sociopaths who want to control everyone so they are likely to start wars when their fallacious economic actions are unsucessful
It sounds like you are implying that QE allows for governments to borrow at artificially low interest rates in order to pay for wars. Although this is technically true this has not happened, but rather the opposite. The US has withdrawn from one War (Iraq) and has not entered into really any conflicts since QE started. Instead the US and much of europe has used QE for social programs to give away money to the lazy and less successful.

The money given to the social programs is small when comparing to money given to the defense industry.

Beside, much of the social programs were paid by taxpayers having the money deduct every month from the paycheck, I won't call it "free" money.

Most social programs are funded by the majority of the people and consumed by few (although "few" is expanding at a dangerous rate today). I was referring to programs like disability insurance, food stamps, welfare, unemployment insurance and the like. Disability for example rarely sees anyone ever drop from it's roles once someone starts receiving benefits.

All taxes are taken from an employee's paycheck every month as they are required to pay taxes based on their income.

There is not a dime that is given to the defense industry. There are defense contractors that receive payment for their goods that they produce to keep our country secure but this is far from being given to them. To further counter your argument, the amount spent on social programs far exceeds the total defense budget.

Maybe there is no need for that much money to secure the USA and money taken from the paycheck + taken to the employer is taken to the employee at the end because the employer considers all costs including the legal costs which are huge in the States, people would make 3times more after tax in average with lower taxes and lower regulation

When 100 is taken to an employee, most of it is consumed by the State and only a fraction is given away to the people

736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: September 22, 2014, 08:10:07 PM

The difficulty is now too high for investments in mining to really be profitable unless you do it really big... which most people cannot afford to do..

Honestly I can make 100 or 200 per day selling BTC on localbitcoins.com, which I think is a lot more profitable and less risky than mining.

Do you buy from exchanges and sell locally?

Coinbase and sell locally/online.

I would actually make a lot more $ if I didn't have to wait 4 damn business days between purchases.

It is possible to wire $ to an exchange but you still have to wait 2-3 days for the wire to go through and it is possible the price could rise before then, causing a loss on the trade.

You're eventually going to get caught and prosecuted for money laundering and unlicensed money transmitting. I hope you're not in the US.

And your name is QuestionAuthority?

Bill Maher questions authority. Edward Snowden breaks the law and gives up his life to question authority. I believe in people banding together to make change happen not vigilante crusades by single individuals that act unilaterally on my behalf. If you want to be a prison martyr go right ahead. Charlie Shrem decided against that idea when he made his plea deal and it was the right decision.

Bill Maher is a comic who says marxist ideas to make tens of millions of dollars a year, be loved and connected; snowden scarified everything for its beliefs but he may have broke the law doing so
737  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: September 22, 2014, 08:08:22 PM
Excellent interview of Thomas Piketty, author on wealth inequality. He received quite a bit of criticism on this work but only because the book was so popular and threatening to the financial elite.

He is a marxist, he wants to control everyone, be careful who you admire

Peter Schiff is and will ever be negative on this topic because he is an idiot.

Peter Schiff warned about the DOTCOM bubble and the housing bubble! He is not what you say he is, he has a sound view on Economics

BUT he is missing the point on new technologies sometimes when he oversights facebook or Bitcoin, he is repeating facebook doesn't make money which is not true : they made 3Billions last quarter and it is increasing by 60% compared to last year!
They have 1.3 Billion MONTHLY users, who would think it has no value??

They have 12Billions of cash and the expected EBITDA this year is 8Billions, no value?
