I've tried everything.  These are old wallets from way back before last summer.  I don't remember how much exactly is in them but I think one has 1000 XMR.   Can a wallet be to old to open?

I think you need to rebuild from keys file using an older version of binary, maybe 0.8.8.4, and then it should work on newer versions as well. Either that or wait for next release, this wallet formatting issue is being addressed now in #monero-dev, and should be corrected in next release.

Thanks for the info.  I guess I'll wait for the next release.  I'm not selling the coins anyway.

Any idea whats going on here?  I tried to open a couple old wallets I forgot about and get this same error with both.

Maybe you created wallet on windows and then tried to open on linux, or vice versa. Did you try to rebuild from the keys file?

Created on Windows and trying to open in Windows.

Tried rebuilding from keys.file.  This is the result:

What a crock of shit. Is it a coin? Is it an IPO?

"We are a team of successful consultants, entrepreneurs, engineers and rocket scientists." Are you really? And do you have names? There's no need to be shy, we appreciate genius here.

"We have already participated in a number of successful Space ventures. launched a nano-satellite in April 2014, as a secondary payload on SpaceX Falcon 9 CRS-3 mission and several private CubeSat projects." Have you really? Got any proof? Links to these projects, companies involved? Something other than a coin-blog? You know, geeky, science-type stuff.

"We plan on using the Blockchain to solve some major world problems." Is the major problem your empty BTC wallet, and does your solution to this problem involve acquiring all my BTC with a scam?

It looks like XMR is the best CryptoNote coin now. BBR's crypto_zoidberg said he developed another CryptoNote coin. It means that BBR future is bad.

CZ said he's working on a POS cryptonote coin.  Release possible this spring.  He didn't say he's abandoning BBR.

Here is what he said:

Befor new year we going to release new GUI, and next release will be the new wallet mode, that actualy utilize fully anonymouse outputs feature.

You can take from that what you want I guess.

766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: December 10, 2014, 01:04:20 AM
wow diff has escalated as exptected. But it tells us about what is to come, this is nothing yet. Without pools we will soon have the reality where people mine for weeks or even months without any reward... there clearly is a limit to this "no pool" approach. I mean, I seriously like it, but sooner or later it will be really hard to get any profit whatsoever and we will reach the same equilibrium as the other x11 algos, just a bit lower nethash because people wont have the nerve to keep mining... lol perhaps i am a bit pessimistic here, what are other peoples opinions about this approach?

No pools is what makes this coin unique.

Completely Decentralized Digital Currency without Pools

SpreadCoin is a new cryptocurrency which is more decentralized than Bitcoin. It prevents centralization of hashing power in pools, which is one of the main concerns of Bitcoin security.

Its only going to get worse... IMO, its dead...

This is a bad time of the year to be price watching since many people are selling whatever they have to pay for their Christmas holidays.  People in America are converting crypto to fiat to buy presents and such.  Things will pick up after the holidays.  Those that ride out the storm will likely be rewarded.
768  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [DS] DarkSwift - anonymous payment solutions! ICO is over! on: December 09, 2014, 10:46:40 PM

I do believe I'm done with this f'd up scene, think I'll quit while I'm ahead. The other q is whether I should hold onto or dump my btc.

And that really sucks.  Every time these ICO scams fail people like you that invested in good faith become disillusioned and leave.  Taking your btc with you.  You'll probably tell as many people as you can what a scam the altcoin scene is.  And you would be right.  If I were you and you're really done I would sell everything btc included and be happy with your FIAT that these scammers didn't get.  At least your ahead.  Many people can't say that.  I pulled the majority of my capital out a long time ago.  I'm glad I did.  If I hadn't I would have lost a significant amount due to the entire crypto market tanking with no end in sight.

c-z says he has future plans for bbr and has made the announcement instead of disappearing completely. really the price is in a bad spot for anyone holding but bbr is still a work in progress.

i'll watch to see how things go in the coming months with this and the new project. not a fan of POS but it's all very interesting to see develop! Smiley

I'm not a fan of POS either and I'm glad that CZ isn't merging POS into BBR.

For some reason people think if a dev isn't posting in the thread every five minutes that they have abandoned the coin.  At least with BBR you don't get a bunch of promises.  When something is ready it's released.

Not sure if you are being facetious or whether your question is a serious one, but darkswift never made it to an exchange. The wallets from what I can see are disabled, and the buyback option is bogus. Total scam.

I was being facetious and my post was a reply to god donut.  He thinks I'm a grumpy whiny pussy.  I think he's wrong.

Sorry if you lost btc on this.  It doesn't look good.  Probably another carsen klock scamcoin.

DarkSwift coins have been sent out to their rightful owners. Please check your wallets and let me know if you didn't receive your share

Also the buyback page is up now

Everybody who is willing for any reason to refund their investments will be able to do so at this page

received my coins
waiting for an exchange

Unbelievable.

That sums up the sorry state of altcoins.

Who cares. As far as it goes seems that my risks are close to zero. If nobody will buy it on exchange - I dump it back to dev - if someone will - I quit with profit. May sound cynical, yes, but I believe in money - I don't care if this is next Bitcoin or another vaporware - if it fills my pockets with BTC's - count me in. For now BuyBack is working so I'll hold on till exchange and see.

It's too bad so many people have that same attitude.  Because there are actual coins out there that have real world usage potential.  Unfortunately they get lumped in with all these "get rich quick" ICO's that have tainted cryptocurrency and turned it into a bastion for scams and ponzi schemes.

I guess with over 5 billion dollars fleeing from crypto back to fiat over the last year there will be more and more of these as people continue to fight for scraps and get what they can before the entire altcoin world comes crashing down leaving just a few survivors.

At least I'm not a grumpy whiny pussy as you are  Grin Red some of your previous posts..

I'm sure there will be no shortage of people willing to hand over their btc.

Graphics make all the difference.  And you have a plan.  We all understand that you can't reveal the details just yet.  That comes after the ICO.

what's wrong with that? As any investor I paid for the coins and want to profit. I support the development of this coin with my BTC

So how much profit did you make off this coin?  Did you double your btc?

I feel current situation as my fault: I was too slow with new  GUI implementation and price is going down because some people think that BBR can be abandoned.

I'm trying to complete it ASAP to fix this problem.)

No it's not your fault.

CZ fucked me.

And just how did they do that?

Please elaborate.

I feel this is a betrayal of loyal BBR investors/supporters.  Why not eventually add POS to BBR?  Is there any plan to distribute any of the new coins to BBR bag holders?
 Cry

I'll write it only once for all who interested.
There was two ways to survive:

1. Transform BBR to some kind of scam with hard fork (any radical changes gonna be scam, including converting BBR into a PoS, since many people don't like PoS coins) and to seize money from BBR. This would be true betrayal. As you may know, i've decided to not kill this project in that way, since i have a future plans for this project.

2. The second was to work out some other interesting project with the same codebase, to cover live spendings, and to keep BBR as it originally was conceived.

I've chosed second way. Befor new year we going to release new GUI, and next release will be the new wallet mode, that actualy utilize fully anonymouse outputs feature. But still, if someone don't like this my attitude - i don't have time and intention to convince you - feel free to quit.

Zoidberg

Focus your energies on coding not appeasing everybody.  No matter what you do there will be people that are unhappy.

Looking forward to the new GUI and other features you have for BBR.  I'm also looking forward to this spring when you release your other project.

Almost all altcoins have been losing value for some time.  There isn't enough money to go around and much of what is available is getting put into any one of the latest ICO scams offering nothing but promises and destined to fail, further hastening the departure of capital from altcoins in general.

All coins losing value wouldn't affect the ranking. You are right about ico token deals polluting the list though.

I prefer the filtered list with tokens removed.

I threw the "all altcoins losing value" in to highlight the overall state of the market.  With few exceptions all coins have been slowly losing value.  It's been a steady decline for months.  Also, with the market cap that BBR has it doesn't take much for the coins in that range to leap frog one another back and forth.  A couple btc buy or sell and BBR is fifteen spots higher or lower.

BBR out of the top 100.

It's in the top 100 coins.  It falls out if you include all the NXT and other platform assets.

I encrypted a wallet and when I launched kryptohash after it closed down I got the following error and kryptohash wallet would not open.  The wallet was created in version 3.2 so I thought that might be the problem but I created a new wallet in V 3.6 and got the same error after encrypting the wallet.  I had backed up the wallet prior to encrypting so I didn't lose anything.  I am running Windows 8 if that matters.

Good work Dev. People will forgive this mistake once they start making money. Now lets get a road map up for future development.

A mistake? How short is your memory?  A couple pages back

Problems:

* EXTREME: 200K coins are premined, not for ICO, and disclosed in a very difficult to read way (they just say how many blocks are premined)
** Even if disclosed, this is an extremely large premine of around 14% (including the 152 blocks, and excluding the ICO portion)

Reading some of these threads boggles the mind.
