Do these things put out comparable heat to the cubes? Are they scorching hot to the touch when running?
Not at all. The photo of the unit in my hand is while it is running. I'd say the heatsink is lukewarm to the touch.

Each unit will come with a barrel connector, which you can modify to connect to a standard PSU. Alternatively, you can buy a 12v 5a adapter off of ebay or Amazon.

Here's a guy selling them for just under $7
60w Power brick

extremly overpriced
for example Bitmain Antminer S1 180GH - around 200USD, it is 1,11USD/1GHash (and free delivery)
this miner, let say 35GH - 89USD, it is 2,54USD/1GHash (and no free delivery)
2.5 times worse...

I'd like to keep the thread open for questions about the device only please. When purchasing a miner, you should consider a few things like PSU cost ($100-$150 for ANTMiner,), noise (near silent with r-box) and watts/gh (R-BOX is 1.2 w/gh on high clock as tested with the demo unit).

With that said, please understand that we are bordering the manufacturing cost to actually build a device. This product is geared towards those not interested in running a bunch of noisy machines around their house. My sale is targeted at resellers as well, with discounts for bulk purchases.

Can you mine Scrypt coins with these units?
This is SHA256 only.
787  Economy / Securities / Re: ROCKMINER - miners using GEN3 ASICMINER chips on: May 17, 2014, 05:27:20 AM
I've got a demo unit r-box up and hashing for those interested. It's extremely quiet and utilizing around 42.8 watts at the wall. I should have production units in stock within the next couple weeks.

R1 Custom Firmware available!

As promised, I am releasing my customized firmware to the community. Please note that although I refer to this package as custom firmware, it is really just a patch file. If you reset your R1 to factory defaults, you will lose the customizations. In which case, you would just need to re-apply the patch.

Changelog for release 0.95:
- Opened up port 4029 for API access to cgminer-u3 instance
- Max frequency for U3 increased to 250M
- Max fequency for R1 increased to 250M (I have not personally tested freq past 125. Use at your own risk!)

Firmware Enhancements
- U3 zombie handling(Scripted auto-cgminer restarts and R1 reboot if necessary)
- Supports modifying R1 pools from UI, without losing the ability to use Bitmain's solo pool for R1.
- Detailed R1 stats page, including pool statistics
- Supports modifying R1 freq and voltage from UI
- U3 freq selection increased to 250M
- Cgminer-U3 API open for monitoring with 3rd party tools

WARNING: These customizations provide the ability to push your R1 beyond its intended limits. Because of this, it will likely void your warranty with Bitmain. Additionally, I provide this patch with no official support, and take no responsibility for any damage done to your R1 device or its surroundings. Use at your own risk! By downloading and applying this patch, the user is accepting these conditions.

Download Below

BTCGarden AMV1X2

If you are purchasing a BTCGarden AMV1X2 miner without an RPi, please note that it will not come with an RPi data cable. Fortunately, it's very easy to make one from the extra daisy chain cable provided.

The RPi data cable and standard data cable are exactly the same, except for the location of 2 pins. To convert a standard data cable to an RPi data cable, remove the bottom right 2 pins, wrap them in electrical tape or heatshrink tubing, and connect to the RPi like so:

To remove the two pins, place a small point under the black tabs which hold the pins in. Lift up as you slide the pins out.

Units come fully assembled and ready to go with the cooler pictured above already attached. I didn't use a backplate, just 4 nylon spacers on the back end between the board and the screws.

Do you have the backplate?
-Dave

No, I don't have any backplates.
