781  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 30, 2014, 09:26:32 AM
I had a look at this "wallet" (set of apparently connected addresses) that is claimed to be
the input wallet of BitPay:
http://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/BitPay.com

I looked the pages for 2014-11-28, Black Friday, spanning from 07:52 to 20:42 UTC (01:52 to 14:42 in central US).  I should have checked another 8-10 hours after that, but the latter hour is the limit of the database, it seems.

In that time interval, the wallet started with 3495 BTC and ended with 1340 BTC.  Along the way there were maybe 2300 small inputs (assumed to be customer payments), some 150-200 outputs adding to 997 BTC, and one lump output of 2000 BTC.  Thus the inputs in that interval should add to 1340 - 3495 + 997 + 2000 = ~842 BTC.  That is about 315'000 USD.

Note that there may be other addresses belonging to BitPay that the site does not recognize as such.

Tomorrow I may have a look at last year's Black Friday, and at other random days, for comparison.

Please do so, interesting post Jorge.

btw: 0.25BTC bot going crazy on Bitfinex, never noticed before: every 7 seconds 0.25 btc are bought.

That bot is taking us straight up. Getting some bigger buy orders now Cheesy

Um... the Age of Aquarius?

I'm not sure I understand your reference. But here is mine:

Right off to bed. Hopefully be a semblance of normality on here when i return.
You can't sleep. The next few hours are critical!

Nothing is going to happen in the next few hours.

People are wondering if there will be a dump due to Black Friday and now it is too close to 4th to short.

My bet is that we won't see any moves until december 4, then a rise in december 4

December 5th is my guess based off the 3D MACD which is still green and now is gaining momentum. I was worried that the bubble was losing steam a few days ago, but NOPE it's getting stronger!

I hope you nerds are ready for this!

And yes I could be completely wrong...but this is the speculation forum right? Cheesy

786  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 29, 2014, 10:10:58 AM
We will see a recover after the black friday.

Won't we?

Black Friday has little effect on the price of bitcoin... gotta wait until December 4th or soon thereafter.... but NO guarantees anything will happen after December 4; however, less likely any kind of rally will occur prior to December 4.

Out of curiosity why are you stating an importance to December 4th?

It's the date of the us marshalls auction of the 50k btc from silkroad.  I doubt that we will have a rally before that auction date, but never say never in bitcoinlandia.  Also, no guarantee of any meaningful price action after that date, but I tend to believe that several big players, including bidders, have incentives to keep prices down until after the auction bids are in.

Thank you for the explanation, not sure why I didn't realize it was the auction date. I wonder if the losing bidders will buy any coins off exchanges after they lose the auction?

I actually believe the 3D MACD will cross above the signal line on December 5th. It would be cool for these stars to aline and begin our next rally.

Disclaimer: I don't conduct any real TA and I'm not convinced of its effectiveness, but it is fun to play with Smiley
787  Economy / Speculation / Re: Xiaoxiao's trading/forecast blog on: November 29, 2014, 09:59:33 AM
My bad. What got you so riled up then?

Seriously, for like a month now... people have been total dicks to me. Today, I said we might get a slight downdraft following the Black Friday buying (retailers will unload at least some and people won't buy as much once the sales pass)... not a crazy idea. Then, I get like pages of s--- about how I am a retarded newbie who doesn't understand the technology and how BTC is going to like a gazillion by the end of the week. I mean, the tenor on here has changed but also a lot of the more hardened cultists are pushing out actual discussion.

Like, my feeling, is... the technology is cool, the exchanges suck, there is a ton of manipulation a lot of which has to do with interests outside of BTC, and I'm interested in hearing people's ideas about where the price is going -- whether they agree or disagree with me. Not craziness, bullying, and referencing a single one-off trade (that random spike to $450... I had a short at around the mid-380s, closed it around $410 when I realized it was going to keep running, and recouped part of the loss on the way up and back down).

Like, at this point, I'm kind of agnostic on my feelings about the price outside the very short-term. I think the community is too hostile for new people to come in, demand is flagging, and there are some headwinds (centralized miners needing to dump to cover costs, retailers dumping at least some... even if it is really BitPay or Coinbase dumping excess over demand, and regulation). At the same time, the price has already dropped so much that I can't say I really think it will drop much more... just that it won't be going to $10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000. A few years off, if this remains the primary crypto then society may catch up and you might get another explosion. This isn't a sure thing and not something happening in the next couple months -- that's a protracted event that requires a few things happen before hand... but it is possible.

But, even that aside, this is a speculation page. I'm speculating. Some days I speculate it will go up. Some days I speculate it will go down. But, instead, I just get lambasted by a bunch of hodl-tards (different than people just holding for the obvious reason of uncertainty and to avoid exchange fees -- which is smart) who accuse me of being a troll or something else. The community has just gotten really screwed up... it's turning back into an echo chamber. Frankly, I'm thinking about playing out a higher leveraged short just from these interactions -- maybe things are worse than I had realized.

We're all very puzzled why you seem to be the target of so much anger.

Every time the price goes down I am going to cheer. I don't even care if I take a long position at some point and the price goes down. I'll have the satisfaction of knowing some of the assholes on here lost money.

No, no... the price will only go down because the people who use this s--- are delusional f---tards who are ignorant, rude assholes to anybody new. Toss in the fact that it is monopoly money and a pump and dump penny stock and you all are seriously fucked.

Only the space titans have access to those. Magical, imaginary charts for magical, imaginary money purchased by people with magical, imaginary friends. Yes, f--- it... I'm not even going to be reasonable anymore. I'm just going to troll. You bastards have been way too hostile to me for having honest opposing views. F--- you all.

Sorry bud, no anal gorging, tonight... well, except for you and your boyfriend.

That was almost all today and all was responsive to harassment. People are a dick to me, I'll be a dick back.

Once you are known as a troll (like Xiaoxiao) no one will take you seriously anymore, even if you have a legit point because it will all be mixed in the cloud of troll responses that you have. If you want honest real discussion of price movement stop the trolling now and don't make personal remarks to people...just focus on the price forecasts etc. Once you start going buck wild troll like Xiaoxiao's "this is it bitcoin is done, ive sold all my coins, see you f-ckers in hell" then "oh hey guys im back and doing well, bitcoin price is gonna be x on x date because of x" then "hahahahahah bitcoin drop!" etc etc there is NO coming back from that. You either have to deal with people treating you like you always are BS'ing, make a new forum account or just give up on BTCTalk and /quit.
788  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Total number of bitcoin users on: November 29, 2014, 09:36:50 AM
Less than a million.

But there are 10x the number of wallets I think since each user often has a couple.

Coinbase alone has 2 million consumer wallets and they are only available in 19 countries (which is after a pretty recent expansion). Due to AML/KYC it would be unlikely for their users to need/want multiple wallets on coinbase.
789  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 29, 2014, 07:19:44 AM
I gotta go with paper wallets as well. I don't entirely trust circle. I'll buy BTC there or Coinbase but then I'll transfer to my paper wallets.

I buy directly into paper wallets and mine directly into a paper wallet. I haven't used an exchange since May.

I do keep a couple of dozen coins at an exchange in case of an emergency or exceptional trading opportunity and less than 2 coins on my Android device for shopping, but I'm aware of the risk involved.

Hopefully you never encounter a house fire.

I have encrypted offsite backups.

Perfect Smiley . I always recommend that, but few actually do it.

Mycelium doesn't do multisig, though, correct?

Mycelium already has their HD wallets out. No they do not include multisig wallets.
791  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: GAW Miner Discounts - Including HashStaker and Hashlets on: November 29, 2014, 07:05:27 AM
I really hope GAW can do some restructuring to get maintenance fees below Scrypt hashlet payouts again. Based on the rates of the past few days, basically any Scrypt miner cheaper than a ZenHashlet will on average net zero (or the default 1) satoshis per day. Not great for current owners. '~'

Gaw has told me that they will be allowing hashlets to upgrade to the HashStakers which have 0 fees, forever. Only question then will be if the upgrade is free (hopefully) or not.

Ok I'm getting the hardware code for you now Mearylll Cheesy

Thank you, the hardware code worked.

This is my first Scrypt minner, so thank you for this giveaway!

No problem! As soon as the HashStakers or a different miner is out I will continue my giveaways Cheesy

I'll have to update the OP Thread Title to let people realize that it is paused for now.
793  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: GAW Miner Discounts - Including Hashlet Prime and Hashlet Solo on: November 29, 2014, 04:42:21 AM
Hello everyone I have an update and will change the OP accordingly Smiley

Update 11/28/14

Gaw Miners are switching their system from hashlets to HashStakers and Paycoin. These will be a Proof of Stake (PoS) system whereby the MORE coins/stakers you own the MORE money you make per day.

The HashStakers will have 0 fees! and their profitability will NOT be affected by difficulty increases like most coins out there.

Everything is hosted on Gaw Miners HashStaker website

Once again if you plan on buying a HashStaker or Paycoins I will be giving a discount on them both. I have spoken with my contact at Gaw and I will be able to give:

2% Discount on all HashStakers, Paycoin and Gaw Miner's products. <-- Click there

Just use that Link above or the one in my Sig, make your purchase and send me a PM with:
1. Date of purchase
2. Country you live in
3. Total Purchase amount
4. What BTC address you'd like your coins sent to!

Happy Mining!
794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: GAW Miner Discounts - Including Hashlet Prime and Hashlet Solo on: November 29, 2014, 03:44:47 AM
Already made a buy through you, are you working? thanks mate.

Hello Metal I see all 3 of your purchases. I just need to wait for tomorrow for GAW to confirm your transactions and then I'll send you the payout Smiley

To everyone else I have recently found out that gaw will allow you to upgrade your hashlets to the HashStalkers (I'm hoping for free) which has 0 fees and then we can continue with good miner payouts.

... and new green bar ...

Should we be worried that the 3D MACD histogram reached a peak of 19, but now hovering in the 16 area without a large or steady increase? I'm new to assessing markets based on MACD so advice is appreciated.
798  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 26, 2014, 09:39:59 PM
they never hacked into his computers, and whether or not they can follow them on the blockchain is irrelevant.

Perhaps I am mis-remembering about the hacking.  But, from day 0, the police can buy stuff on the site, pay in bitcoins, and follow them on the blockchain.  That tracing could reveal if there were other wallets beyond those that that they seized (~30'000 on the server and ~150'000 on his laptop).

Whether they know about them or nor still does not give them access to the coins.
799  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 26, 2014, 07:42:10 AM
Isn't there another [Ross Ulbrich ] wallet with 100k+ that they haven't gotten hold of yet??

I doubt it.  The FBI etc had hacked into his computers before the raid, and can follow trails on the blockchain.

Depends if he has any of his coins in another wallet that he hasn't touched in a long time or not. One could easily setup a HD seed with a few hundred addresses and have x percent of whole transactions go to that pre-populated list of addresses. Keep only the seed remembered and don't touch it in a very long time, and it'd still be safe.
800  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc china depth is staggering on: November 26, 2014, 05:57:55 AM
I seriously believe China wants to get hold of as many Bitcoins as possible by spreading FUD about banning BTC, and buying cheap coins at the same time.
The Chinese government likely has little interest in purchasing large amounts of bitcoin as their overall trade surplus is many times larger then the market cap of bitcoin therefore would not be able to purchase any amount of bitcoin that would be a significant portion of their foreign currency reserves

It could be used as a method of capital flight. Buy bitcoin in china, make purchases with bitcoin outside of china. Capital move success.

Also China's elite could still have ties to buy bitcoin as their government is very corrupt and a 5 billion dollar market cap is enough for a few millionares to move 100,000's of dollars into. I'm not saying that's happening, but it is a possibility for now and in the future.
