1661  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 5 LTC Loan for 5 hours on: May 22, 2014, 04:57:51 PM
Go through my post history to see some of my sucessful trades. I'm asking for 5 LTC which is about $50 not $2000. Litecoin are not bitcoins.
1662  Economy / Lending / [Closed] Need 5 LTC Loan for 5 hours on: May 22, 2014, 04:21:29 PM
Hello I'm looking for a 5 LTC loan for the next 5 hours while my Litecoin wallet updates. I'll pay you back 5.125 LTC, which is 2.5% interest for a 5 hour loan.

Please send the LTC to this address: Lxxx and post below so everyone else knows not to repeat the send. Any extra transfers will be returned to the sender without any interest, so only the first person please!

If for some reason multiple people claim that they sent me the transaction I will request a signed message or a micropayment to verify who the sender really was. I will not be providing any collateral, its a small loan and for a very small amount of time. I've been a member since 2012 and have conducted business without any problems.

Thank you for your help!

Please hold off from buying this, he is currently in a loan with me that might have defaulted. The loan time frame ends today, but I've only gotten back about 1/3 of what I'm suppose to get. Let me work it out with him first and I'll update if it's safe to buy anything from him.

Well I hope that turns out well for you. It's so often that loans go unpaid on these forums. GL, but I'm assuming the worst.
1664  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 21, 2014, 11:58:10 PM

Yes.  Jorge thinks bitcoin is a dangerous ponzi and makes an argument there by first presenting a stawman argument in the form of an extreme false dichotomy.

Is this news?  He has seemed fairly transparent in his views of bitcoin.

I personally think he is wrong.

But who knows?

Statements like the one quoted below get me everytime. Isn't this statement also true for every central bank fiat currency, IE the USD? The USD is only worth what we believe its worth, in that what we are willing to trade for the $1.

The fact is that bitcoins have no value in themselves : they are only worth what people believe they are worth .

If anyone has better insight as to why or how this statement is true for bitcoin, but not for fiat. Please, please let me know. I'm awaiting enlightenment Smiley

the bank note is a promise

A promise of what though? Only that they would give you a different US dollar for it?

1666  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Cost of Money Transfer to Russia, China, Uganda etc on: May 21, 2014, 08:53:52 PM
Several bitcoin commentators claim that transferring money to non-western countries costs 5-10%. I can believe this is this case with the most expensive options. But what is the most convenient way (except from bitcoin) that most people use?

Would be interesting to learn some real examples.

Unfortunately I think Western Union is one of the most common ways people send remittances back home. My buddy sends $300 a month back to Vietnam and it costs her 9% including the transfer fee + the currency conversion fee on her mother's side.

As far as cash couriering goes, Anytime you carry fair amounts of cash into a "third world" country or a country that has very strict import laws, you're risking the possibility of off-record "taxation" or confiscation.

This is even true with goods. IE taking 2 laptops into Argentina if you look like your a native, they will instantly have 1 of the laptops confiscated or you will have to pay a "tax" of over $1000 (usually worth more than the good so you just give up the good to their customs officer). This is also another real world example from one of my colleagues, who did not look like a tourist when entering Argentina.
1667  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 3rd Person Action/ Adventure game accepting Digital Currency on: May 21, 2014, 08:44:40 PM
This game will allow you to earn digital currencies? Will there have to be btc invested into the speed runs (IE a bet) in order to get btc out of the game? And you should post a video of what you have created so far, 2 screen shots of a character model in an environment is unlikely to gather much interest.

Looks like enough miners moved to lower the hashrate at coinotron to 43% currently: https://www.litecoinpool.org/pools
1669  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Cheap Server to run Bitcoin Node on: May 21, 2014, 05:29:03 AM
that is an interesting solution. But for $60 I can just get a cheap rack server too and I don't have to be quite as tech savvy or worry about casing etc.

Everyone that shares my concern about the near 51% network hashrate of LTC on coinotron can help me bump this thread so that people are more aware of what's going on, rather than having to look at page 60 something of this thread to see the discussion that is taking place.

Raise awareness:

1671  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / ATTENTION MINERS OF COINOTRON 5-20-14, 51% Attack Nearing Possibility on: May 21, 2014, 02:55:14 AM
Coinotron is approaching 51% of the total LTC network hashrate. I ask that you all kindly LEAVE coinotron for the time being as the pool operator seems to be incompetent to solve this issue. As most of you are probably holding on to at least some LTC, it is for your own sake that you should leave coinotron, avoid the possibility of a 51% attack and the devaluation of your Litecoins.

See here: https://www.litecoinpool.org/pools

Other pools that you can use:

Honestly, if you can't find a solution FAST to lower your LTC hashrate, you should just take the initiative and shut down your LTC pool and wait for people to put their miners elsewhere while you find a solution to stay at 40% of the total hashrate or less. The real question is, do you have the goodwill to lose some miner fees for now for the better sake of both LTC and your future LTC fee profits?

Yeah, I didn't realize that these guys go for like $5,000 on ebay (approximate models I think). So it's definitely out of my price range.
1675  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] Cheap Server to run Bitcoin Node on: May 21, 2014, 01:19:52 AM
Hello, I'm looking to buy cheap server solely for the purposes of running a 24/7 bitcoin node, as the number of nodes is decreasing and I'd like to contribute. Please post/PM me what you have and the price.

https://getaddr.bitnodes.io/dashboard/chart/?days=60

Edit: A long time ago someone had linked a website where you could buy old servers for like $40 (working). I think they were servers that were being retired from some school and they are sold in an online auction (but almost no one bids on them). If anyone has that link I'd be very appreciative.
1676  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Free Antminer S2 Coupons $400 (only if your going to use it) expires may 30th on: May 21, 2014, 01:09:44 AM
What site can these be used at?

The coupons should be for bitmaintech.com the official antminer website. Coupons were given to people that previously purchased Antminer products.
1677  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Dell 2u for sale. 2x12 core. 64gb ram on: May 21, 2014, 12:41:48 AM
Can you post a photo of it? I'm looking to pick up a server that would fit in a rack. Also, would you be interested in selling it cheaper or giving it away in order to support a new bitcoin Node?

The number of bitcoin nodes is decreasing and I'd like to help counteract that. See here: https://getaddr.bitnodes.io/dashboard/chart/?days=60

Looks like the sell order depth is increasing? Or am I reading the chart wrong? I liked this graph much more:
