821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Opinions on what to do with $2000 on: August 20, 2013, 08:38:43 AM
I should be able to get a refund on my 30GHs and 60GHs BFL miners.  They are March this year.  I had a previous (august 2012) 30GHs order that was refunded last year.  I regret cancelling that order now.  I reordered and got sucked in again with the hype, but what should i do with my other 2 BFL orders.

1. Wait for my ASICs ?   or

Get a refund and...

2. Order with KnC

3. Invest in Scryrpt GPU's (maybe wait till 9000 series)

4. order with some other ASIC maker

5. wait for more efficient and cheaper models to emerge

6. wait for some sort of scrypt ASIC (if it ever happens)

7. Invest in Crypto

8. Invest in a crypto service!

9. Run away and forget BTC, LTC and all the rest.

I would love to hear people opinions Smiley

I missed the vote.  I would invest in cryptocurrency.  Then you have some other opportunites with investing or loaning for interest.  I don't think it's quite enough to run away with, but that's amusing.
822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin network passed 4000 Petaflops on: August 20, 2013, 08:35:28 AM
Part of my job is training and Bitcoin, together with other payment methods, is one of the modules I teach. To explain how powerful the network is, I compare it with the most powerful supercomputer. The last time I updated that slide, 2-3 months ago, the Bitcoin network had a "calculating power" of 1700 Petaflops, while the fastest supercomputer (Tianhe-2) had (and still has) an average of..... 33 (http://www.top500.org/lists/2013/06/) !!
Tonight I checked it again (http://bitcoinwatch.com/) and found out it has grown to ... 4327 !! Yes, exactly 4327 to 33..

Insane..

[edit] that's also a comparison I like to tell to people when I describe what bitcoins are!

With all the Asics in process that number will not look so high.  Let's see in another 2-3 months.
823  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockchain Wallet Appears down 19 August 2013 on: August 20, 2013, 08:28:43 AM
Is this caused by DDOS or something else?
824  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BitcoinSpinner / Mycelium on: August 20, 2013, 08:26:03 AM
I have Mycelium, but don't really use it much.  Some of the other ones for android I found lacking.
825  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC price tomorrow will be 1 BTC = ? on: August 20, 2013, 08:17:15 AM
I saw $118 on coinbase SELL today! My eyes popped.

Are you sure it was coinbase?  Mine says 103 right now, and haven't seen above that in a while.  They seem to follow Bitstamp prices.

BOMB: BTC-E will have leveraged trading in METATRADER with 1:3 leverage: https://btc-e.com/news/172

@Hfleer
you opened this thread but never came back. lol

I'm still around, haven't checked many of those sites out yet.  It seems Kraken is still in beta with no real BTC trading.  Should be interesting with BTC-e, too bad they make it so difficult to fund.
edit: Bitfinex is allowing 4:1 leverage now
827  Economy / Trading Discussion / Debit Cards available? on: August 20, 2013, 07:51:32 AM
What is available that people have tried as far as funded Debit Cards for purchase with Bitcoin?  Looking for something reasonably priced and trustworthy seller.
828  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is the Gox panic buying bubble about to burst? on: August 20, 2013, 07:39:51 AM
I would think everyone who wants out would've traded out for BTC by now.  The others just enjoy crappy service I suppose.
829  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitVisitor not paying? on: August 20, 2013, 04:56:37 AM
Still use this site from time to time.  If you mistype the captcha, makes you reenter your btc address and start over.  Otherwise works ok, no longer displays your balance or pending payout.  There's no official thread for this one either?
830  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet are you using? on: August 20, 2013, 04:52:12 AM
So which wallet are people using?

I know there's the "official" Bitcoin-Qt, but also Electrum, Armory, MultiBit, etc. So far, I've been using Qt but am getting annoyed at the transaction fees I have been paying to send BTC.

Any suggestions, and please give a reason. Thanks!

I was using electrum for day to day transactions, but recently switched to multibit.  Multibit seems to handle multiple wallets better.
831  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to the Forum on: August 20, 2013, 04:49:49 AM
Hello I am new to the forum and wanted to get my first post done with. Any tips or tricks that might help would be cool. I mainly am using in order to get support from various exchanges who frequent the site.

Welcome to the board.  Try to avoid the spammy subforums if you can, a lot of that going around lately.
832  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First Time Posting on: August 20, 2013, 04:48:28 AM
Hello everyone, I am totally new to this forum and have never posted anything in my life. So here it is...

Welcome to the board, you're off to a good start.
833  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: dont gamble at dice games on: August 20, 2013, 04:41:46 AM
I played satoshi dice, prime dice, and coindice

each of those companies  have larger bankrolls than you do, so they can play as long as you can, but you most likely would play until you lose... otherwise you would think you are not capitalizing on your potential.

gambling at those games is a loser market.

It is better to trade ltc to btc to alt coin and back. that is a better way to make money -- trading coins.

If anyone's trying to make money at those dice games, they probably are trying to get the money right away.  The edge is advertised plainly at most of them so they should now the odds are in the favor of the house even without the large bankroll.
834  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC price tomorrow will be 1 BTC = ? on: August 19, 2013, 11:07:34 PM
Hi newbies,
Just guess what will be the tomorrow's BTC price?

Either higher or lower by a little bit.  Am i right?

Technically the price may stay the same

Yes of course, but the odds aren't very good for that.
835  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CaptchaCoin.com - Get paid bitcoins for solving captchas! on: August 19, 2013, 02:22:32 PM
My accuracy range was also very low, low 30's% over a not so large range.  It's odd how everyone has such a low accuracy at this site.
836  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: today bitcoin price is $120 in mtgox, are u going to buy it or sell it!!! on: August 19, 2013, 01:19:42 PM
Well it's also 102 at coinbase and Bitstamp, and 99 at Btc-e.
837  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would anyone be interested in buying BTC stock or BTC price options? Futures? on: August 19, 2013, 12:38:42 PM
Thinking of offering options for BTC stocks / fiat prices, mainly based on either bitstamp or BTC-e. Could also do futures however the other parties end would have to be covered by collateral in some way.  It would be thread run, not by a site or anything. Obviously MPEX and BTCT have this covered already but for trading small amounts the fees eat up any potential in my opinion. My max would be 5 or 10 BTC totals. Any interest guys?

My idea is to offer 3, 7, 15 and 30 day options (both calls and puts). For futures it would be 3-60 days. Since 3 and 7 day options/contracts would be changing rapidly, I would list my offerings here however since I won't be around in a week or two with college, all orders and prices would be confirmed via PM. Even if you are not interested, suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Also, note if you are an options trader yourself, I am looking to do a 15-90 day put order on 1 or 2 shares of ASIC-miner. Comment your best offer (strike price and fee) for that if interested.

I would probably trade these if they were available on an exchange with decent volume.  Can you throw up some sample prices?  I was thinking of suggesting a site like Bitfinex for Bitcoin Stocks.  The borrower could sell or buy the stocks with the option of leverage, and lender could earn interest on their stocks or BTC.
838  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: How to double your BTC in a week on: August 19, 2013, 12:16:02 PM
He forgot to mention that you could've lost the whole bankroll.  As far as the site compromised, could we hope that the website is more secure than it is reliable.
Don't forget that a website owner can always blame a hack for everything. It has happened before that an admin said they got hacked just to run away with the coins.
So when reading "if the website is compromised" I always add "or we just steal them from you" in my mind.
Of course I'm not implying that this could happen here.

Falls into the category of counterparty risk.  Something to think about when dealing in Bitcoin.
839  Economy / Services / Re: Get paid weekly for your signature on: August 19, 2013, 12:08:42 PM
Hi BitcoinTalk.

As a trial run, I'll be paying the following your signatures:

100 - 250: 0.015 BTC
251 - 500: 0.02 BTC
501 - 750: 0.03 BTC
750 - 1000: 0.04 BTC
1001+: 0.05 BTC

This is on a weekly basis.
What can you offer me (in terms of rates) for my signature?Trying to get a quote that matches what I'm selling for per month or better than this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=277267.0
Thanks Smiley

Looks like you have 979 posts.  Your pay would be 0.04 BTC /week or more than 0.16 per typical month.  Once you get to 1001 posts would be 0.05 and 0.20
840  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-08-18 Coinbase now lets you send, buy or sell Bitcoin via SMS on: August 19, 2013, 09:02:04 AM

http://thenextweb.com/insider/2013/08/16/coinbase-now-lets-you-send-buy-or-sell-bitcoin-via-sms/

Coinbase, the one-year old Bitcoin startup that landed a $5 million investment earlier this year, is opening its virtual currency banking system up to the masses after introducing SMS-based actions.

The new feature allows anyone on any kind of mobile device to use all the features of the service. After verifying their number and setting up a PIN, users simply send a text using one of the set shortcodes. Transactions that affect account balance — send, buy and sell – are confirmed by a voice call during which the customer is prompted to key in their PIN.

Well, I guess that's good if you gotta have BTC now, but only carrying a feature phone.  Undecided
