An admission by the NYT no less, then the damage to the immune system by multiple jabs must be even worse than they are letting on.

Guys, let's all take a moment of reflection for Bill Gates. He's had a really rough year...

OT: I love how the media has spun the massive, ongoing corporate layoffs as "The Great Resignation".  Roll Eyes

Another ‘Great Resignation’ wave is coming in January, Muse CEO says. Here’s how to prepare

EDIT: This made me think...how does everyone feel about explaining crypto to newcomers nowadays? Or participating in crypto discussions in general?

I am quite burned out on this. Back when I got into BTC I gave literal lectures to audiences about it. I would talk with anyone interested, sometimes for hours. But today? I feel like I've heard it all before one too many times. Replying to the media-driven FUD du jour. Hearing the same tired objections for the 1000x. Seeing the gargantuan chasm in understanding that even well-educated and smart people have to cross to get from normie-brain to Bitcoin understanding. I rarely engage with any of this anymore. Thinking there are enough resources to help you understand. In the end, everyone buys BTC at the price they deserve to.

It would be difficult to engage in such discussions with newcomers today. The MSM has done such a mindjob on people in general, and put so much false FUD out there, that it would be difficult to overcome that.

The other problem is that no one is interested in bitcoin unless they've already started to have doubts about the existing financial system status quo. No one new is interested unless they're looking to invest in things beyond a mere 401k or IRA. And lastly, hardly anyone new is interested in bitcoin unless they believe that they can get-rich-quick.

So in a room of 20 people, this literally might only be one person. The other 19 people with sit there and scoff, laugh, call it a scam, and bring up all the FUD.

I no longer believe that you as a person find Bitcoin; I believe that Bitcoin finds you.

That is some Orwellian nightmare fuel right there...and likely our world future if people don't wake the fk up and opt out of the fiat monetary system.

He's exactly right that the BIS == TPTB == "they". The Central Banks and even the Fed are all beholden to the BIS.

It's sad really.  Because he came up with a glorious model.  And even from the beginning of it all he said all models break.

All he needs to do is shrug is shoulders and say "Well damn, the model has broken earlier than I thought it would."  And THEN get about the business of trying to explain why, or adjusting the model somehow to possibly be accurate into the future.  Not move the goalposts, but openly try to improve the model...  And the whole world would listen to him because he earned some serious credibility with S2F.

He could even do less than that, like say "Yeah my 100k by December" stand was a foolish and capricious move that actually ignores the way this model works (because it is and was)"  And then point out that the model has still not been invalidated entirely.

Basically what he is doing now, but with humility rather than the whole "Well here is what I really always meant" line which 7 year olds can see.

It reminds me of the constant gaslighting, redefinition, and post moving that corrupt politicians and narcissists do.

Or people like CSW or Roger Ver: "BCash will take over and put an end to Bitcoin!" BSV will take over and put an end to Bitcoin!" "Follow me, listen to me! I know something that you don't!"

I mean srsly, aren't we over listening to, or even following, these types by now?

Do people really need to follow false prophets in order to invest in and be bullish on something? To be lead by the collar? Bitcoin is self-explanatory, it needs no leaders or prophets. Either you get it, or you don't.

I feel like if Michael Saylor woke up tomorrow and said he no longer believed in Bitcoin and said he was going to sell it all, 99% of his acolyte followers would all sheepishly sell their bitcoin as well. This is the state of the world we live in now.

I don't want to sound brave or controversial, but this is not new technology.

It's been around for a couple decades now. It's a retarded story to begin with.

You're basically implanting a USB memory stick into your body.

Thanks for the tip. I had a look and can see some bluetooth options. I do have a decent topdon battery tester which tells me what I need to know I guess. It's only really a problem in winter.
But there definitely seems to be some extra phantom drain on the car I have now. Didn't have this problem with my previous Fords or Mazdas which would also sit unused for a week quite often and never replaced the batteries except on a MX5 which is understandable I guess.

In most modern cars, a phantom battery drain is likely due to either 1) an added third-party stereo head system, or 2) just the phantom power of the active alarm system itself while the car is locked, which also serves to prime the fuel pump when the doors are conversely unlocked. If the car is old like 10+ years, it can also be caused by faulty wiring, like a short in the driver side door wiring harness (because the wires get old and brittle over time, and with all the door opening/closing eventually cracks).

If I have a car sit for months, I just throw a trickle charger on the battery once a month to top it off.

misophonia sucks, so ive been into home theater for decades, even before it was cool.

Misophonia is what drove me out of theaters years ago. All that food package rattling and low murmuring in the audience was just too distracting for me.

I mostly watch Blu Ray as I still maintain the quality is superior compared to most streaming I've seen, mostly in the audio actually. On the PS5 disc edition it is quite glorious. Best way to enjoy my home theatre.

Will probably re-watch a couple of Christmas movies over the next few days: Scrooged, Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, Die Hard and maybe even A Wonderful life. That sort of stuff.

I couldn't agree more. Like you, I primarily watch movies I rewatch often only on blu-ray. People that only watch streaming movies have no idea what they are missing as far as the audio goes. The studios water down the surround sound to a 2.1 stereo mix for streaming purposes, and so much gets lost in the muddle, especially if they didn't remix it correctly. Or the TV itself has internal algorithms that will mix it down to a stereo mix that's not very good. Having blu-ray 5.1 or 7.1 surround-sound audio paired with a really great receiver/speaker setup makes a world of difference in movie enjoyment, especially with background music and the nuances of dialog.

I read a great article on this subject the other day:

https://www.slashfilm.com/673162/heres-why-movie-dialogue-has-gotten-more-difficult-to-understand-and-three-ways-to-fix-it/

Quote
"A lot of people watch it on their flatscreen with their sound bar and they think it's going to be an improved sound situation, but it may not translate," says Sylvester:

"Some TVs take the 5.1 [surround sound mix] and they turn it into a stereo. They have algorithms inside the TV. It's not even our mix. We don't even know what it sounds like. I think a lot of tuners do that, if you have a receiver — I know they have algorithms, and they also put coloring on it, like 'cinema approach' that adds reflection and noise and stuff that you don't want in the mix. That's another problem. You don't know how it's being presented in the home."

Along with the fact retail are currently mesmerized by the latest big chain narrative being crammed down their throats by all the vest wearing VC assholes.  My, how those narratives have morphed over the years.  A pile of solutions looking for a problem.  World computer. Sound money!  ICOs,  No, Sound money!  WEB3!  No sound money! No WEB3!!!

I want to take a moment to outline why Web3 is massively retarded, then I will go back into my hole.

Web3 will fail for one simple, elephant-in-the-room reason that seemingly no one wants to discuss or think about:

People do not want to, and will simply REFUSE to, pay more (beyond their internet access cost) in order to access content on another version of the internet. No matter what it contains or how great it is.

Period. It's basic human nature.

The VCs believe that they can incentivize people with fake incentives to PAY MORE to be on Web3. It too will also fail.

People will just flat out refuse to pay for it. Just look at the internet today. When most are confronted with a now-required subscription to a website that formerly had free content, most people just leave that website and kiss it goodbye, never to return. That's why almost all major websites make the subscription completely optional, or offer exclusive subscription-based content along with the free stuff. Because if they didn't do that and made the subscription mandatory for all their content, they would lose the majority of their viewers, and thus ad revenue.

Once you've opened Pandora's box and made the internet free and open for 40+ years, you cannot go back and then make it pay-to-play, or micro-transactions everywhere.

All the other reasons why Web3 might fail are little more than window dressing.

Maybe, but they do pay for Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Prime and Xfinity, sometimes simultaneously for all five.
People also take roads with tolls around here, even when no-toll roads are available.
Oh, sure. There will always be the minority of crazies that jump on the bandwagon. I guess I shouldn't have used a blanket statement of 'people', but I really meant the majority, like 95-99% of people won't do it.

I am more concerned about some web3 companies doing play to earn where you engage in some meaningless activity to earn small amounts of "currency".
You are basically sell yourself (as a human being) short.

Yep. I mean, look at Steem. What a great concept, right? Open website where people can post any content, and other people pay to read other's posted content with microtransactions in Steem currency. So you earn Steem by posting content. But look at the adoption...next to nil. By all measures it has been a failure. And the value of Steem has fallen off the map, currently ranked #327 on CMC. I can remember a time when it was in the top 15 of the crypto list.

Dorsey, who has raised money from VCs for Twitter and Block, is himself is a big proponent of bitcoin and his Twitter bio is simply ”#bitcoin” followed by the bitcoin symbol. However, he’s less keen on other cryptocurrencies.

Late on Wednesday, he replied to a Twitter user saying he’s not necessarily anti-ethereum, a technology powering the cryptocurrency ether (ETH) and thousands of decentralized applications including several that have been backed by Andreessen Horowitz.

“I’m anti-centralized, VC-owned, single point of failure, and corporate controlled lies,” Dorsey said. “If your goal is anti establishment, I promise you it isn’t ethereum.

And Jack is an insider, so he would know the truth more than anyone.

Here. That'll be 30k. Uh, I mean 300k.
