And a Coinbase listing tomorrow -- https://blog.coinbase.com/yearn-finance-yfi-is-launching-on-coinbase-pro-af730b9c5ef0

"On Monday, September 14, transfer YFI into your Coinbase Pro account ahead of trading. Support for YFI will be available in all Coinbase’s supported jurisdictions, with the exception of New York State. Per previous launches, transfers will open during business hours, Pacific time."

Coinbase just keeps adding more and more shitcoins to its platform, but still after many years can't manage to make the Coinbase debit card available for U.S. based users.  Roll Eyes

Shitcoins never really die completely

Get the fuck out of here with your alt coin love in!

Did you not notice that there are several thousand lingering “coins”, each with a minuscule, illiquid “market cap” which would promptly crash if anybody tried to sell any significant amount on the very few exchanges where that is even possible?

They indeed “never really die completely”.  They are in a persistent vegetative state:  Comacoins.

They reflect the majority of everyone's corporate workplace now: ZombieCorps.

So let's see: bankrupt zombie megacorps who are propped up by the banks and make little to no profit, begin to issue their own corporate-branded digital shit tokens in order to lock the public into their walled-garden of products and services, and also to tack on processing fees, storage fees, and other hidden fees, while behind the scenes also playing arbitrage between the various national fiat currencies and front-running them.

Am I getting close here? Bueller?

I mean, how long until Amazon issues their own private shitcoin? Or Walmartcoin?

The German finance minister Olaf Scholz reiterated today that the ministers are “firmly convinced that private-sector cryptocurrencies do not make sense” and “should be banned if necessary”.

I hate to say it, but he is 1000% correct. They do not make any sense.

The EU tentative regulation that Biodom mentioned, as I understand it, is aimed at tokens issued by corporate actors (libra is explicitly mentioned, and tether would qualify as well). My previous post simply states that I personally agree that such corporate entities should be held liable, and any failure to comply with redemption requests immediately should have civil and criminal consequences.

The last thing we need is more fractional reserve scams springing up like mushrooms everywhere.

But...bbut...the last thing the world needs is these corporate-issued tokens in the first place. That's my point. They are completely un-needed, nobody is asking for them, and fiat currencies work just fine as-is. They provide the public with zero benefits.

"Create unnecessary thing, then regulate unnecessary thing."
1844  Economy / Speculation / Re: [WO] Seeking regulatory approval to publish “bitcoin.pdf” on: September 12, 2020, 02:31:01 PM

Quote from: Euractiv (2020-09-10)
Cryptocurrency developers should produce a ‘white paper’ with all the relevant information about the issuer, the token or the trading platform “to enable potential buyers to make an informed purchase decision and understand the risks relating to the offering,” the proposal says.

National and European regulators must approve these documents before issuers can start operating.

A faceless Tor user who calls himself “Satoshi Nakamoto” will seek approval from self-entitled bureaucrats before releasing “bitcoin.pdf” and a bunch of source code, because... because.  Everybody is a bank-loving masochist with a regulatory fetish!  Confirmed by strongest science.

Quote
"Because they are tied to national currencies, supporters of ‘stablecoins’ claim they can avoid the bubble-and-burst evolution seen with Bitcoin."

Because they are tied to national currencies which are already digital, they have no fucking point...except pointless redundancy, I guess? They continue to miss the point of Bitcoin's reason for existence in the first place.

@Travis_Kling
If you ever worry about who would pay $50k for one #Bitcoin ...

Just remember Warren Buffett bought $APPL after it did a 7x in 7 years, right before it did a 3.5x in 4 years.

Many will be late and still buy anyway.

Gaah! I still cringe every time someone says crap like this.

1. No one in the know cares about "a whole bitcoin". The unit of measure is completely irrelevant,

because...

2. A "bitcoin" is divisible to 8 decimal places. And can be modded to 16 decimal places with a single line constant change. A near infinite "stock split".

It just perpetuates a myth that people won't be able to afford to buy bitcoin in the future. These aren't BRK/A shares, people!  Angry

I know this is impossible, but I would like to know what Hal Finney would think of the overall Bitcoin situation, exchanges, forks, asics farms, long shorts, bets

Me too.

I know one thing, even though Satoshi thought through a lot of variables and possibilities, I doubt that he/they envisioned bullshit forks persisting and hanging around indefinitely.

I am a bit bothered by Tyler's use of the word "crypto" - even though i understand that it could be a camouflaging term.

Most of us active in this particular thread know that there would not be hardly any ability for the various shitcoins to flourish in their lil funzies without the underlying security that bitcoin provides the whole space..... Many of the shitcoins, defi and yield farming can proclaim that they are decentralized (when they are not) because they are operating under the ruse that bitcoin is secure in that decentralized sense.

I agree, I'm bothered anytime anyone says "crypto" or the "whole crypto space" and also implies BitcoinTM. It's insulting to wrap up BitcoinTM in with all of the other crap.

That's like implying a company like Alphabet is even in the same league as all of the pink sheet penny scam companies, just because they are all considered "equities".

There is simply BitcoinTM, and then there is everything else....a steaming pile of crypto shitcoin scam crap, designed to part fools from their hard earned money.

The problem is that n00bs coming in to the "crypto space" cannot tell the difference, or are struggling to tell the difference.

1851  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 09, 2020, 02:04:41 PM
The corrupt Wall Street trading cabal (of which Jim Cramer is a shill mouthpiece for) is worried about Bitcoin. Not about it taking over the world or anything like that, but because retail investors and traders are excited about trading/hodling in a digital commodity that the Cabal themselves cannot control. Because it's too late for them to come in and corner the Bitcoin market.

1. They cannot corner the Bitcoin market, i.e. gain 90%+ control over minted bitcoin, because the majority of mined bitcoin is already in the hands of "not-Wall Street". And the hodlers are spread out all over the world. This happened in the beginning years when Wall Street was laughing at and largely ignoring Bitcoin as a penny stock scam. They didn't even understand what it was exactly or why it should have value.

2. Bitcoin has to be mined by miners. The Cabal cannot artificially inflate it vis a vis just print more bitcoin, do phantom bitcoin, or fractional reserves (that last task is in the hands of the crypto exchanges, ones that they cannot control).

3. Because they cannot get huge, significant amounts of bitcoin for free, they cannot massively short it either.

4. They are accustomed to using massive leverage to move stonk markets (think 1000X or more), but that type of leverage is not permitted by the crypto exchanges because of risk management.

5. If they want huge amounts of bitcoin to play with, they have to buy it OTC or on the market exchanges like everyone else. And the amount they want has to be available. This is NOT how Wall Street does things.

So therefore they have little interest in Bitcoin itself, other than Bitcoin is luring Average Joes away from the corrupt stonk markets that they DO INDEED control. And this irritates them beyond belief. They literally WANT Average Joes back into the corrupt stonk market where they can rekt them all day long.

Everything I wrote before was just confirmed, by a guy that would know the Cabal (aka Wall Street) pretty well. The Bitcoin market might just be one of the last truly free markets on the planet.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-idea-that-a-scientific-theory-can-be-falsified-is-a-myth/

nope nope nope

Quote
Science studies provide supporters of science with better arguments to combat these critics, by showing that the strength of scientific conclusions arises because credible experts use comprehensive bodies of evidence to arrive at consensus judgments about whether a theory should be retained or rejected in favor of a new one. These consensus judgments are what have enabled the astounding levels of success that have revolutionized our lives for the better. It is the preponderance of evidence that is relevant in making such judgments, not one or even a few results.

I get what this article is trying to say, but it is also somewhat irritating.

I distinctly remember as kid growing up in the 70's, when we would read in school class how the Dinosaurs were all cold-blooded, green/grey, smooth or scaly skin reptiles. Ancestors to modern day reptiles. Period. That was the prevailing scientific theory, and it was in *all* the science books, taken as sworn gospel. It wasn't just treated as science theory, it was treated as science fact. A closed and shut case.

At the time I also read here and there in the news, about a few dissenting scientists (John Ostrom, and especially Robert T. Bakker) who believed that many species of dinosaurs were warm-blooded and ancestrally linked to birds, and even had feathers. These guys were viewed by the major "scientific community" as complete quacks and laughed at, merely because the scant evidence they had at the time paled in comparison to the overwhelming "consensus judgment" evidence to the contrary by the "scientific community". It *was* very compelling evidence; but it was an affront to the status quo.

And guess what? Those guys were proven right. But did they ever really get the credit they truly deserved for being right? Nope.

Did the existing old-school scientists of the time back then suffer anything in terms of their rep/career for being dead wrong? Nope.

In conclusion:
Yes we should always seek the scientific method of 'falsification' as a way of progression.

--and--

No, don't ever believe that the "prevailing theory" of the scientific community is a Rock of Gibraltar that can't be toppled.

Thank you for this answer.  Back in 2018 I had posted a question about the alt's spike in January, within the general discussions, but received zero replies.  My guess was that no one had a good answer.  I'll count yours as the first reply.

This next run up to a new ath should see around an order of magnitude increase in price, and with all that money circulating there should be an order of magnitude increase in shenanigans.  And officer Barbrady will be no where in sight to deal with it.

Its impossible to tell when or what the next ath will be, the only thing I know for sure is that it will be a fun ride.

edit:  ath, not atm.   Tongue

Exactly. You'll know when were are in the midst of a true run up, when you feel like you are in the middle of an absolute shitstorm with all the FUD and scams going around.

That's why I chuckle when people are saying things like "New ATH by this December!" Sorry but, no way. That's not how whale traders work, that's not how this market works. You think the whales would care to run it up during a recession/depression year, when people are massively out of work and don't have any extra money to spend right now? Nope. They will wait until the economy recovers, when people have extra money again. Also, the volume is just not there yet, not even close. The ramp up will take a year or two anyway to get going.

That's why now is the best buying opportunity.

Believe me, you'll know when we are entering the real run up when the trolls come out in force to tell people why they should be dumping all their bitcoin. It'll feel like the online forums (i.e., Bitcointalk, Reddit, etc.) are being massively overrun with trolls. When the MSM starts printing hit pieces against Bitcoin on an almost daily basis. When the MSM trots out the dinosaurs like Warren Buffett and Jamie Dimon again, to tell the public that they are all idiots for buying Bitcoin. Wink

I can't believe SJW rot has infiltrated Bitcoin Core, to the point they ACKED a merge to change "blacklist" to "blocklist".

For Bitcoin.

A blockchain.

...

Similar to Linux being attacked for not having enough females working on the open source project.

I don't know the whole story, but from what I understand, Linus Torvalds is a bit of an asshole (an understatement) when it comes to his management style. When he disagrees with one of his core developers over something, he tends to go for the jugular and try to condescend, demoralize and shame them for being stupid. Actually not much unlike how Steve Jobs was with subordinates.

My assessment is that that men on the Linux dev team had to develop really thick skin in order to even deal with him, and that most women devs that tried couldn't deal with his shit....they just couldn't hack it. A few left in tears.

Note that I'm not defending Linus' bad behavior or the toxic work environment; it is what it is. It doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman, if you are going to work on Linux core, you are going to have to deal with him.
1857  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why are Americans so fat? on: September 07, 2020, 03:55:27 PM
As an American, I find many of the responses from Europeans etc. here quite accurate.

But let's turn this thread around a bit, shall we?

If you are European or Asian, and believe that your citizens are fairly skinny and/or in good health compared to most Americans, tell us why:

1. Do people not eat fast food in your country?

2. What is a typical day look like for food/drink consumption? What types of food do your people eat and drink daily? And from where?

3. Do they regularly get exercise, and if so, how?

4. What role does alcohol consumption play in your daily lives, and how much?

5. What types of food advertising (if any) are in your country?

6. Do food corporations push food types in your country?
1858  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 07, 2020, 02:08:31 PM
To this day I still do not have a clear explanation for why the alts all went sky high at that time.  It may have been some kind of spill over effect from btc's rise in Dec of 2017.   But it was cool, it gave me a decent stash of btc. (it still doesn't wipe out the regret of having sold so many in the early days, but whatever)

I'll tell you exactly why. The whale pumpers had already started the Bitcoin bull run back in 2015/2016, but turning the corner into 2017, they needed a mega distraction. (The theory is that whales already had insider knowledge of the coming BTC futures market launch near the end of 2017). They wanted everyone possible to sell their bitcoin prior to the blow off top. That is how they make money, by FUDing and second-guessing everyone out of their bitcoin at all the wrong times. Also at the same time, Roger Ver and Wu were forking Bitcoin (over Segwit and the blocksize debate), and whale traders were legit attempting a "flippening" with ETH, and trolling the shit out of the forums during all of it. ICO scams around ETH were also running rampant.

So by mysteriously pumping every other shitcoin known to man sky high, suddenly and without explanation, while at the same time selling off bitcoin, starting a flame war around SegWit and the blocksize debate, pumping a supposed ETH "flippening" with ICO scams, and shilling/pumping the new BCH fork, they were legit trying to scare all the n00bs right out of bitcoin and right into the shitcoin markets. It's clear that stirring FUD was all part of their plan. I'm guessing it worked on some people. If you remember, there was MEGA trolling and confusion going on at the time. Then they pumped Bitcoin parabolic right on the BTC futures launch in November 2017.
