841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin be blocked too by the government or isp ?? on: October 26, 2016, 10:12:45 PM
Oh yes, it's possible and very easy to do. It's already being done in many places.

As I travel a lot, I often use free wifi services in cafes and the like, and in most places, FTP doesn't work. Sometimes I cannot use email at all, sometimes I can read my mail but I cannot reply (I'm using ports 995 & 465), and very often Electrum cannot connect. Some websites such as those of airlines companies which are heavily secured do not work everywhere, too.

If it can be done in a cafe, it can also be done at the ISP level.
842  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Banks plan to hoard bitcoins to pay cyber ransoms on: October 26, 2016, 10:04:22 PM
I find it difficult to believe that banks are preparing to pay a ransom, but I know that banks invest in many fields. Properties, shares, bonds, so it's not surprising at all they're buying a few BTC.
843  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SHIVA DIGITAL, India's most active bitcoin group on: October 26, 2016, 10:01:49 PM
Bitcoin can help the 179.6 million poor people, by offering them global opportunities via different initiatives done through global micro payment with Bitcoin. A lazy guy in a 1st world country, can now pay some unemployed guy in India to do his typing, and then he pay him with Bitcoin. <micro payment> with very low fees and near instant transfers. ^smile^

It becomes a global effort to eliminate poverty in all countries.

It's not that easy. As a customer, you can pay an Indian worker with BTC on Fiverr, but that service doesn't pay the workers with BTC. The the poorest people cannot afford Internet.

I beg to differ my friend. There are many companies working out there, that are trying to bring cheap internet to the millions of poor people out there. Take this as a example :

https://www.cnet.com/news/googles-magic-internet-balloons-bringing-wi-fi-to-india/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Loon

Let's also be realistic, you only need a mobile phone to transmit a transaction via a SmS service to use Bitcoin. If the poor countries in Africa can make technologies like M-Pesa to work on cheap mobile phones, we will make Bitcoin work in these areas too.

Live Life, with no restriction. ^smile^

I've heard there was a huge backlash against this "free" service. Or the one from facebook. It's not free in the sense that you cannot do evrything you can do with a standard paid connection, and you have no privacy, with everything recorded. Most people would not use those services, even if they are poor.

Yet, I could be wrong. I haven't been to India for many years, I guess that in the cities at least, Internet access is now affordable and widespread among the average people.
844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do people really make millions of $ transactions? on: October 26, 2016, 09:55:49 PM
Those are good news, you know. Reading this board, you sometimes have the feeling a majority of users are faucets users, with many posts only written to cash some signature campaign. It's good to know there are BTC users who don't need that. BTC would not be what it is if there were only people getting it via faucets.
845  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Irak bans alcohol on: October 25, 2016, 10:15:33 PM
How can they do that to their own people? No alcohol, no music, no kites, no strip clubs? If they are denying every basic needs, what is it worth living for? That is the reason people are trying hard to cross the Mediterranean or die trying.

No come on, nothing on your list are basic needs. I'm more interested in economic affairs. Irak's a pretty large country. There were assuredly some brewers or wine producers out there, and people selling alcohol, too. In Algeria, there are some wine producers, selling their wine up to France. I'm afraid several Irakis have lost their job.
846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we estimate the total power usage of the Bitcoin network? on: October 25, 2016, 10:11:01 PM
I sure would like to get that info, but it's impossible to know. We don't even know how many miners there are! And how many computers does one miner has? We may also need to add some 5,000 nodes.

I don't think it's a normal thing to do. In Morocco, Algeria, Turkey or Tunisia, alcohol is legal. Muslims shall not drink it, but anyone is able to buy a bottle. This is a sign that the Iraki politicians have no plans to turn their country into a modern democracy where people are free to choose what they want to be.

I guess the number of Irakis trying to emigrate to Europe will only increase...
849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core to Release SegWit in November on: October 24, 2016, 11:08:57 PM
Well, it's about time. All blocks are full! I understand it's difficult to reach consensus, but a solution needs to be found if we want BTC to keep on growing. We shall also know that SegWit is only a part of the solution. The problem will come back in some 18/24 months.
850  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SHIVA DIGITAL, India's most active bitcoin group on: October 24, 2016, 11:05:00 PM
bitcoin is not yet a physical currency but it is still digital

I guess you don't speak good English. Otherwise, I have to warn you that BTC will remain digital forever.

I like that name "SHIVA DIGITAL". It sounds good. I hope it will raise BTC's awareness all over India.
851  Other / Politics & Society / Irak bans alcohol on: October 23, 2016, 10:30:30 PM
Those stupid muslims! Irak is a war-torn country, with thousands fighting for their lives, while million others are struggling to make a living, and what is the iraki parliament doing? It just passed a law to make it illegal to sell, to make or to import any alcoholic beverage.

What a sense of priority!
852  Other / Politics & Society / Re: President Duterte announce the seperation in USA on: October 21, 2016, 10:49:57 PM
Philippines is a strategic location. USA needs the Philippines in controlling the South China Sea. And it is very important in its Asia Pivot.

Possible Outcome:

USA may gave counter offer to Digong. More investments, aid, loans and military weapons or USA will call the bluff and sanction the Philippines. Cut the Aids and Loans,  can put high tariffs on our exports and remittances. It can transfer the BPO/American companies to other countries. Or they will do the dirty work, like assassination or regime change. Millions of call center agents may lose will their job.

China can also give rights to the fishermen to the contested areas. Joint epxlorations on oil and minerals on the spratlys. Loans, aid and investments may reach up to $21 Billion for Digongs project. We will be part on the new silkroad project of China. We will have access to the 100 million tourists of china.

Philippines can now buy cheaper jet planes and missiles from Russia and China. Russia can now help us on the bataan power plant and to build more nuclear plants to lessen our dependence on oil. Remember USA they did not wan't to sell those high tech weapons to Philippines instead sold its old retired coastguard cutters without its weapons and 2 planes without missiles. They are giving $3.5 billion to Israel, $1 billion to Egypt, $1 billion to Pakistan and to us its close ally $31 million for the military every year. Those old cost guard cutters 2 planes are not enough to counter china. If China invades, Philippines will be invaded in less than 24 hours.

They try to help us but they want Philippines declare war against China - that's what they want. We almost did when Noynoy their dog suddenly starts buying useless weapons from them. and so if we lose because that's sure to happen. US can then again negotiate and invade Philippines once again but may want to look as a HERO. That's BS. but now that China is on our side, they may never have the chance to rule the east.

If they want they can declare war to China.

China is not on your side. China is on the side of... China. No Filipino shall think about what China will offer. They shall consider what China will ask in return. There's nothing free with China...
853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Unlimited on: October 21, 2016, 10:42:29 PM
I am the elected "Developer" (committer) to Bitcoin Unlimited.  I am breaking my silence of a year and a month on this forum to say that we do have a solid development team, but that you will have a very hard time discovering information about us and the Bitcoin Unlimited project on this forum since much of it has been "moderated" out of existence.  We will see if this post lasts.  Please do use Google searches to learn about us.

Nice to meet you, and thanks to franky1 for the technical explanations.

BU shows a risk, or an opportunity, that I hadn't seen coming. For months, we've talking that Bitcoin Core was slow to solve the scalability issue, and probably to their surprise, that opened a door to outsiders to come up with a solution of their own. So BU may have 15% of the hash rate, which is already huge, and I doubt they could ever gain 90%, but they add strong pressure to Bitcoin Core. Monero is a terrible example. One guy invented it, but some others seized it.
854  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Duterte net satisfaction rate in Philippines is very good... on: October 21, 2016, 10:25:36 PM
After barely 3 months in office, it's normal for the ratings to remain high. Being tough on drugs is obviously popular, but what about larger issues like poverty or lack and jobs? What has changed? Is anything better? Duterte will be judged on those once the war on drugs will no longer make headlines.
855  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ECB Feels Threatened by Bitcoin, Ask EU to Rein in Virtual Currencies on: October 21, 2016, 10:19:19 PM
Many bloggers are prone to exaggeration. It's only a warning. There's no risk yet, as the total market caps of all cryptocurrencies is still peanuts money compared to what the ECB handles.
856  Other / Politics & Society / Re: President Duterte announce the seperation in USA on: October 20, 2016, 10:41:18 PM
Very poor decision if implemented. The US has always respected the Philippines, seeing it as a sovereign country, whereas China sees its neighbors as dwarfs, and doesn't respect them in any way.
857  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Who is responsible for the poor, the rich people will forget their duties on: October 20, 2016, 10:37:53 PM
Who is responsible for everything Huh

Nobody's responsible for everything. I'm trying to be responsible for my life and my family, but that's all I can do. No man shall be responsible for the life of another man, unless you're against the most basic form of equality.

I see less and less differences between countries. Leaders are incompetent nearly everywhere.
858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Unlimited on: October 20, 2016, 10:31:10 PM
I just discovered these guys. They say they have a solution to scale BTC. Some info here, on their FAQ:

https://www.bitcoinunlimited.info/faq

Unfortunately, I'm not enough of a techie to say how good their proposals are, but I like the fact that they're making them. The scalability issue needs to be solved, and new ideas can always help, but they're also a risk when the ideas are as developed as theses ones. Somehow, the team behind Bitcoin Unlimited is competing against Bitcoin Core.

Anyone knows who are the guys behind Bitcoin Unlimited?
859  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Scenario: The end of the world is coming. What will you do? on: October 19, 2016, 08:32:46 PM
If this was to happen in the next hour, I would lie down somewhere comfortable, my bed if I'm at home, and I would relax. I would become soft and sweet: fully in peace. I would also probably pray.
860  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Need some people from different countries? on: October 19, 2016, 08:27:22 PM
Is this legal?
That kind of business is heavily regulated in most countries. Besides, creating a wallet and making transactions aren't difficult. Anybody on this board can do that.
