862  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: High fan-speed with new batch Antminer S9s on: August 15, 2017, 11:10:53 PM
I belive part of the problem is the later batches of S9 have fewer chips total running faster, and hence hotter, for the same hashrate. Probably can't do much other than put them somewhere such that the noise is mitigated. I host mine.

The more transactions, the more paid in fees no matter where it's going (unless sent as a zero-fee transaction).  So you are correct.

All you need to learn is how to setup VPN on your router - check the manual that came with it.  Then it's the same as if you're at home, just a different IP address.  Wink

There was a lot of hype about this pool. I have switched from slush and started mining. But now I understand that there is no payout treshold. So if I get a lot of small payments from the pool to my wallet later when I wish to exchange BTC to USD I will pay transaction fee about 10% from the BTC amount?

The fees that you are charged to exchange BTC to USD depends on the Exchange you use for the transaction.  If they charge 10%, it will be 10% no matter where your BTC comes from.  My exchange charges 1.49% to sell BCT directly to my bank account.

Now, I have a feeling that you are really asking about transaction fees to consolidate all of your payouts to another wallet.  Here is an example; I accumulate payouts from Kano into a Blockchain.info wallet and send it all to my KeepKey hardware wallet once it gets over 1 BTC.  So, neither the consolidation or exchange is anywhere near 10% in my case.

June   72 payments   1.5BTC   0.0019805 Fees   0.13%
July   59 Payments   1.5BTC   0.0024060 Fees   0.16%
And to expand on Carl's point, it's the number of payments you are consolidating that determines the fee needed, not the amount of BTC.  For example, I know that I'm not moving 1.5BTC when consolidating 50+ payments since Carl is running more hash than I, but the fee is the same ~0.002+
867  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is escrow? on: August 14, 2017, 09:22:25 PM
Escrow is when you use a trusted third party to hold the BTC.  Once payment is received in escrow, then the seller can send whatever is being sold.  Once goods are received and all is ok, you tell the escrow holder to release payment to the seller.  If there is a problem with the goods received, or shipping, or anything the money isn't gone.  You will pay a fee to the person doing the escrow for this service.  Tends to stop scammers since legitimate sellers are fine with doing an escrow, but scammers most certainly aren't!

Oh I know all about it, but stealing this isn't and SHOULD NOT be in a sig by some dufus who is so stupid as to not read the directions and mine without a payout set.  DUH!

December, yes, I've been thinking about that.  Turkey is the predominant fowl eaten at that time, while we all know here that chicken is the magic voodoo. Hmmmm  Roll Eyes

Cheesy  Keep calm and mine on!
You're absolutely right...so I'll bite...it's time to churn up some electrons and book some blocks...  Kiss

Ha ha!  It worked! Block on!

Indeed, a quick order of magnitude calculation shows an S9 would expect to take over 100 months at current diff...  Shocked
Of course you could get lucky and hit it as soon as you try, or it might go past 500% of expected.

Just keep your miners pointed here - best pool out there and only slightly crazy members!

Yes you need a higher power rated PSU given your conditions above.
874  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avg yield from Avg mining pool? on: August 12, 2017, 04:47:06 AM
It is split amongst all in the pool proportionately as the block reward, assuming you're mining at a pool where the txn fees are given to the miners. Not all do.
875  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avg yield from Avg mining pool? on: August 11, 2017, 09:36:26 PM
I think you're confusing the transaction fee with the block reward.  The block reward is where most of the mining income comes from (for now) with transactions accounting for around 10% more give or take depending on which/how many transactions are in the block.
Eventually there will only be the transaction fees rewarded per block solved, but that's quite a bit in the future yet.
876  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avg yield from Avg mining pool? on: August 11, 2017, 07:40:42 PM
Wow, been a long time since I looked into faucets, and at best it was a few thousand satoshis a day then. If you don't mind fiddling with them I'd say save your money, or buy BTC directly and hold.
877  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is the best coin to mine today? on: August 11, 2017, 06:50:39 PM
In this section of the forums there's only one coin to mine, namely BTC.  If you want to talk about any altcoins move this thread over to the altcoin section.
878  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avg yield from Avg mining pool? on: August 11, 2017, 05:27:54 PM
Are you sure you got your decimal point in the right place?  250k-300k satoshis is .0025 to .003 BTC per day and that's equivalent to a current ASIC miner...

I apologize if this question has been asked before, what is the minimum th\s required to avoid dust? I'm getting a buddy setup with a single Avalon 741 and want to make sure he will be above the threshold before pointing him to this pool.
He'll be above threshold with the Avalon.  Looking at the last block cracked, and doing some quick calculations, I'm getting around 600GHs right at dust, so no problem.  Cool
Although I can say that's close to double when last someone asked!!  Shocked

-And way to go pangborn! Money money money!

You're in the wrong section, move this thread to the altcoin section. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=383627.0
