For statistical presentation,
With quantitative variables, in the case of your topic, merit points; those sort of variables should be presented in the following style:
Average +/- standard deviation; and Median (Interquartile range).
Average and Median are not enough, and might lead to misinterpretation on real distribution of merit variable.
Median and Interquartile range are essential statistics for non-normal distribution variables.
You choose right statistics to desribe your variables, zentdex.

For your interest, I also give you link to helpful statistical guides from laerd:
Measures of central tendency

Mean, median, and mode should be used correctly with related supplemental statistics for central descriptions.

Hope it helps, zentdex.

8743  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How hard to Get MERITS?? on: May 22, 2018, 02:07:33 AM
I have heard that is is very hard for people to rank up in here. How true is this?
Shitposters will never rank up with merit system and new rank requirements, believe me. Those sort of shitty users will only rank up if they abuse the system through merit exchanges, merit business, etc. Abusing like this will put their accounts under high risk of punishments (such as red tags, bans, etc.).

For your interest, you should improve yourself first to become a constructive user in the forum.
You should also follow 'famous' users, who ranked up after the launch of  merit system and learn from them (iasenko, zentdex, hugeblack, nullius, alias, slient26, etc.).

Best regards,
8744  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Change color.... on: May 22, 2018, 02:04:14 AM
Color will make your text more beautiful but do not overdo it will make the reader uncomfortable and sore eyes.
~
Thank you very much for the source of different beautiful colors, mate.
However, as you emphasized in the OP, users should not overuse the effects because it can make readers feel a litle bit annoying.
In my stance, this one is only (or mainly) helpful in designing signature with BBcodes.
Anyway, highly appreciate your time to do it because it shown your dedication to contribute to the forum.

Anyone elses staking not working since the last wallet upgrade? Shows the green arrow  in the bottom right showing staking is active but I have gotten ZERO rewards since. Just wondering if im the only one?
Please stop kidding, mate.
My wallet has staked very well over the last few weeks.
My recommendations for you are:
- Backing up your wallet and keep the backup file safely somewhere (should save it in different safe locations).
- Closing your wallet.
- Rechecking your nodes to see whether they are the same as the OP, or you should simply deleting all your current nodes, and replace them all by nodes in the OP.
- Reinstalling your wallet, and remember to check staking icon (green or not). If not, closing your wallet and reopen it again.

Hope it helps!
8746  Other / Meta / Re: sMerit deadline on: May 22, 2018, 01:53:52 AM
This approach (if implemented) also might lead to potential abusements from part of those merit sources.

Quote
Why take some 100-300 smerits and centralise the system to a few merit sources, in my view that's a backwards step and exactly what we don't want?

Merit sources in the forum should be expanded to make a decentralized merit sources.
The most important reason is owners of those merit sources are human. Therefore, they need to take a rest and won't be able to join the forum 24/7.
And, decentralized merit sources also helpful in terms of allocated merits to different sources which located at different time zones globally.
Quote
I doubt every merit source runs dry at the end of the month (some will, but others)...
8747  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: May 22, 2018, 01:49:20 AM
Please stop talking non-sense. Lots of merit beggars wrote like this.
I like this new system, as I prefer quality over quantity.

English broken at some extent. Next time, you should compose your threads with better writen-English.
Quote
It just seems like there are no merits in my local thread yet  Undecided I guess there aren't a lot of high ranking members there that are regular
There they would be extra useful as those posts generally don't count for signature campaigns even if they are high quality.

The fact is merit-deserved threads will earn merits whatever threads published.
Quote
This way there would be some reward for posting high quality posts in local threads.

What are your main purposes to be a merit source in your local thread, honestly?
Another point is that local boards are amongst the most abused places in the forum, including account sellings, merit exchanges, etc.
Quote
I am not sure if I would be eligible to be a "source" of merit points that I can bring to my local thread as I have only been here for few months and I don't want to be greedy.

I am young member in the forum, so it is my first time to see Theymos wears signature codes.
I will spend my time to read more about the project later today. However, Theymos maybe one of strong signal for good project.
Thanks for the ANN, Theymos.

Edited:
OMG. This is something like American educational style. Another joke after April Fools.
Thanks for making me laugh out loud, Theymos.

~
Very impressive, Theymos.
For now, I have known why lots of forum mods, staffs joined the educational campaign in the first several pages, including:
Good project.

PS: This is going better than I expected.

Sold all my BTC, All-in for Howeycoins.

I guess mods will be given option to take HoweyCoins instead of BTC from now on. Great project!

1 howeycoin will surely be worth one lambo.

I should have Howeycoins... This is the future... Good project... Nice roadmap and a very very interesting dev team...

Reserved...

Change for what, lol?  Grin
Thank you ItsZeroLimit.
I have changed the signature.

Hi sncc,
Firstly, thanks for great topic.
Secondly, would you mind giving me explanation why you chose the cutoff at 40 merit points, please.
Why not 20, 30, 50, or 100? It is likely a arbitrary cutoff to identify potential merit abusers.
Thank you, sncc.

8751  Other / Meta / Re: sMerit deadline on: May 21, 2018, 08:07:55 AM
Each user has his/ her own favorite boards in the forum to join discussions, and the odds to find favorite, merit-deserved threads totally depend upon three components:
1) The strictness of readers: The stricter they are, the less probability they find threads which make them satisfied, then forcing them to send their sMerits away.
2) The quality of threads: The higher quality they are, the bigger opportunities to catch attention of other members and earn merits.
3) The level of abundant shitty posts in the forum: More shitty posts, less chances for users to find good ones because they simply been covered by shits.
Consequently, I don't see reasons to force users to send or automatically decay their sMerits.
8752  Other / Meta / Re: People might sell they're merit points. on: May 21, 2018, 07:32:29 AM
I agree. I don't think hero and legendary members will sell their merits, they aren't that stupid.
The most important thing is doing this will put their accounts under extremely high risks of red tags, bans by admin or forum mods.
They won't foolishly do this to get additional several hundreds of dollars.
However, there are also several higher ranked users who don't care about signature campaigns, bounties. They simply do their jobs in the forum.
8753  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system is not working, failed! on: May 21, 2018, 06:54:06 AM
Merits have actually been circulated in the forum. What did you mean?
only thing is we need more sMerit in circulation.

It is good to see merit circulation like this because it shows that merit system has actually had real positive effects on shitposters, who are not able to earn merits through their threads.
It has passed 4 months and still most of the people with just 2-3 merit points.

There are abundant threads with the same ideas as yours, and I feel tired of them. Please stop it, and start reading more to be able to compose more constructive, informative threads, mate.
Just need to do a real usefull post and people will be share merit. It is a fact.
8754  Other / Meta / Re: Merit became a business. What to do? on: May 21, 2018, 06:32:04 AM
And your are one of rubbish posters.  Roll Eyes
No quality woud be there, only there would be rubbish posts only.

Let's them freely do what they wanted, then they will get what they deserved.
Hello guys, today i saw a russian telelegram grup about merit.

In reality, merits are invaluable for someone who need them, then you should not called such prices are over- or under-valued. Nevertheless, falling into merit business should be avoided somehow. In my stance, never should do this.
Quote
He sell merit on 20$ for eatch.
Furthermore, you should pay your attention on reading forum rules, forum structures, its basic/ essential functions, and helpful, informative available topics. You should choose the right things, most necessary to do in your early period as forum members. Please don't fall into merits, and stupid related questions like "How to get Merits? What should I do to earn merits? Lots of people abused merit systems, why have they not got punishments?" All of those sort of questions are non-sense, stupid in my opinion.
8755  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLO] CALLISTO on: May 15, 2018, 12:18:04 PM
There are lots of forked coins from different algorithms. What's happened with them?
Of course, at the moment, each person has different point of view about Callisto project.
But, only time will answer the question, who are right?
So, why not wait for the first exchange for Callisto, exception shitty Yobit, to see what will actually happen with Callisto?
I don't see reasons to fall into deeply arguments here, currently.
8756  Other / Meta / Re: Does the system allow you to send merit to yourself? on: May 15, 2018, 09:01:06 AM
If I remember exactly, Theymos stated about this issue in the ANN topic of merit ystem, which has title "Merit system and new rank requirements".
Sorry, I have checked the topic, which has not mentioned about this. But I believe that I read it somewhere.
By the way, Theymos should add the basic information about the operational mechanism  of merit system to the OP of the topic for newcomers.
8757  Other / Meta / Re: Send merit to friend, is that allowed?? on: May 15, 2018, 02:35:07 AM
Gifting merits among friend is very bad. This friends who share their merit points among themselves, have little or no quality accrued to their post all they're concerned about is getting merit to rank up. Any such act should be addressed to the admins.
The real problem is circulating sMerits between friends (they are mostly alt-accounts and main accounts) mainly rewarded those sMerits to extremely low-quality threads. It is the problem.
If someone, even they are your friends, can create constructive threads, which deserved Merits. It's doesn't matter who send those threads merits.
just do whatever they want, but please remember that merit system was launched to stimulate quality of threads in the forum.
8758  Other / Meta / Re: Merit has made this forum better in many ways! on: May 15, 2018, 01:56:45 AM
No, you are wrong, fella. Shit posters will keep doing this, because they have been still earn money from low-quality, bad-managed campaigns.
I'm new here, so I didn't know the old system exactly but I agree, that a Merit System improves the writing quality. Shitposters won't be merited so they'll stop it.
I don't remember exactly where I read the information, but Theymos, the forum admin, said that they have two possible plans for the newcomers of the forum:
He will give newcomers two options:
1) Only focus on earning money and stick on bounties boards. Choosing the one, newcomers have to be at least Junior members to post, and are now allowable to join serious boards after being Junior members.
2) Focus on getting information, and can post anywhere from Newbie.
Please remember that I don't remember exact information, so what I wrote maybe incorrect at some extents.

Notes:
I will edit my thread with original contents from Theymos thread when I found it later.
8759  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: May 14, 2018, 11:07:24 AM
The first fork from Bitcoin, BitcoinCash is the most reasonably fork. All the rest are probably just a way to earn free money by smart tactics which started by pools owners, Bitman, etc.
I don' thing so, before the first fork (Bitcoin Cash), the price of bitcoin rallied and altcoins tanked big time, after that a lot has happened, many forks were created, and Bitcoin reached its ATH.

By now, no fork from Bytebal, but as you said, someone who have willingness to fork can certainly for the coin from its source codes.
Quote
There always is a way to clone or fork an open source code like Byteball's.
8760  Other / Meta / Re: 100 Days of Merit on: May 14, 2018, 09:23:35 AM
It is likely that merit system has made significant impacts on account farmers. Something like they stop attention to make new alt-accounts.
Furthermore, several account farms have been detected and got punishments from moderators. This is another good impact of merit sytem in terms of cleaning the forum a bit.
Decreasing on the newly created users by 36% after merit's implementation within 100 days is very significant.

It is just a theory, but you maybe right.
Quote
We can say that merit system is really reducing the multiple accounts of people or spammers and focusing many members on creating a good quality post.
