8521  Other / Meta / Re: Why don't DuckDuckGo and Bing show bitcointalk results? on: September 02, 2018, 03:15:09 AM
~
You will need to know the domain address to find a keyword on duckduckgo
To be honest, it is much complicated.
I just tried using TOR Browser after @LoyceV give me link to Tor Browser, which developed by DeepOnion project.
Got the same issues as the OP author and all of you.
It's too complicated, required more time, more efforts when searching on duckduckgo. Consequently, I might consider stop using Tor and switching back to Google Chrome, which is much more convenient.
8522  Other / Meta / Re: "Incorrect captcha" with Tor, getting worse? on: September 01, 2018, 12:46:44 PM
It's probably much easier than you think: download Tor Browser, and run it.
Wow, thank you for your help, @LoyceV.
I downloaded Tor Browser and enjoy it with my own experience now.
8523  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Available courses on Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology from colleges and Univers on: September 01, 2018, 07:03:15 AM
The topic looks silently over weeks.
Today, I would like to give you all (current guys who joined the topic discussions and someone will join later) a helpful topic, which created by @LoyceV:
[GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread (until there is a dedicated subforum?)
Of course, the topic is not a course on blockchain, but inside the topic, you can find lots of helpful Guidelines on blockchain in general and on bitcoin in particular.

Enjoy it, everyone!
8524  Other / Meta / Re: "Incorrect captcha" with Tor, getting worse? on: September 01, 2018, 06:11:56 AM
I use Tor a lot
It is not relating to your question, but I would like to know how to use Tor.
Can you give me links to your most favorite documents related to Tor and how to use it, please.
8525  Other / Meta / Re: Does bitcointalk cause more spam with their rules? on: September 01, 2018, 04:15:31 AM
It's true.
Nevertheless, the solution is the last choice as @Theymos stated months ago.
The one sure way to stop spam on this forum is to stop the signature campaigns.

Moderators, staffs are simply human, as all of us. Therefore, we all can not require or expect them to glance around the forum, topics by topics, threads by threads to find out and deleted non-sense, spamming ones.
It's unrealistic.
Quote
If the moderators were truly serious about the spam on this forum this is how you stop it.

You are wrong. Deleted threads will not stop spamming endemic in the forum. One of the reasons is mods/ staffs can not find and delete all spamming threads.
Instead, merit system will do it, have demonstrated its good capability to do it at some extents.
Months after the start day of merit system, since January, the system has shown lots of positive impacts.
Quote
By deleting posts and threads in an attempt to contain the spam the signature campaign bounties hunters are forced to create even more posts each week than is required so as not to go under the total needed to receive stakes.

Easily ranking up to Junior member is a fault of merit system, really?
I don't think so,  mate.
Someone suggested that it should have required merits to rank up to Junior rank.
I support the idea, but I would like to raise my viewpoint that you are totally wrong by blaming to merit sytem.
Quote
Another issue is the merit system.  Now that it is very difficult to raise up past jr member guess what happens.  People create multiple accounts and spam even more to get the stakes they would have gotten by ranking up by the old method we used to have.
Hate to say this, but you are one of members who contributed to make the Meta board a little bit looks like a shitty place by non-sense, crying topic on Merit system like this.
Dozens of available topics on the same issue as yours. All of them failed, ignored by forum users due to those ones are actually spamming topics which contribute nothing to the forum and potential improvements of merit system.
Quote
I feel like we have done nothing but created more spam in the end.  The signature campaigns must end if we want to stop spam.  If signature stay the rules should be continued to be studied because I do not believe this is working.  I do not have a solution unfortunately and appreciate the work the mods do to help fight this situation.

Bonus:
For the OP author,
There is link to a Theymos' thread on his thoughts about bounty industry:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg29540717#msg29540717
I quoted part of the thread for your interest:
It's too early to get a clear picture, but my thoughts so far:

First, most people complaining about merit are constantly posting garbage, and should not rank-up.
You should discover more by yourself with full original thread.
Quote
I very much do not want to destroy the sig-ad/airdrop/bounty "industry". But I am not going to tolerate people posting garbage upon garbage. If the merit system completely fails and I can't think of anything else to replace it, then my next step will probably be to completely remove all ways for forum users to make money from posting (eg. removing signatures entirely).
8526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: August 26, 2018, 03:27:09 AM
~

The biggest problem of Dash is not the CEO, or the core Evolution team that delivers nothing,  or the haterz, or the trolls, or the FAKE DASH NEWS, or the extreme wastefulness of the budget, or the naive masternodes community.
The biggest problem with Dash is TaoOfSatoshi, the brutal censor of the dash forums!
Spit the cancer of censorship out of the dash forums.
Let's LIBERATE the users/readers of the dash forums, NOW!

Delivers nothing, fake DASH news, etc.
wow, your imagination is really good, and your fudding skills have reached to almost perfect level.
Please stop spreading FUDs related to top-altcoin like DASH, mate.
You have made fudding at wrong topic, with wrong target altcoin.

DASH investors will not fall into your traps, at any odds. I think investors who readily to spend money to invest into DASH have enough knowledge, skills, experience to be un-affected by fudsters, especially with stupid blame like yours.
8527  Other / Meta / Re: LoyceV's Merit data analysis on: August 26, 2018, 03:11:00 AM
I have collected all your given datasets and will make a time series analysis when the data reach at least 50 points (50 weeks.)
What part of my weekly data do you use for this? If you use the raw data, you don't need to download 50 different versions. Instead, you can just dissect the data into the chunk size you like. If it helps, I can probably supply the format that works best for you.
You got my ideas wrongly.
For doing Time series analyis, such as discover periodic distribution of Merits in the forum, daily, weekly, monthly, etc. I need at least 50 data-collecting-points (not versions as you said) to discover it (if it really exists).
For example: for montly data, I need 50 months; for weekly data, I need 50 weeks.
Merit system will certainly be there next years.
Consequently, no need to hurry, and I gonna wait patiently to collect more weekly data  Grin

Just my guess, which should be demonstrated via deeply analysis with real datasets, merit distribution might be distributed more in the last week each month.  Roll Eyes
8528  Other / Meta / Re: LoyceV's Merit data analysis on: August 25, 2018, 11:38:32 AM
~ snipped all contents in the original thread
One more weekly data.
Highly appreciate all your time to make it from week to week, @LoyceV.
I have collected all your given datasets and will make a time series analysis when the data reach at least 50 points (50 weeks.)
It's not too long from now.
8529  Other / Meta / Re: Make restrictions for juniors members on: August 17, 2018, 06:47:17 AM
1 merit is too easy. Best option regarding my opinion is adjust the merit system as following:
Rank   Required   activity              Required merit
Brand new     0                                 0
Newbie           1                                 0
Jr Member           30                                 10
Member           60                                 50
Full Member   120                                 100
Sr. Member   240                                 250
Hero Member   480                                 500

I agree with you and the proposal.
10 and 50 merits for Junior member, and Member ranks, respectively.
And, start allowing Junior member can have actively hyperlink in their signature again is one of good alternative adjustments for the current ranking system.
8530  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 17, 2018, 06:45:07 AM
I also think that the merit system is good in theory but can be improved.
For example in the local sections there are very few merit sources.

There are 84 merit for sources with a total merit generation of up to 19500 sMerit per 30 days

84 sources for 2 mln users.

it's true that bitcointalk is now a mirror of society where the richer get richer, but shouldn't we be used to this already?
If you can live in the real world you can accept the merit system Grin
In my opinion, even if all 84 merit sources worked hard and efficiently, they have still alsmot been unable to catch all high quality threads to give their smerits away.
They all are human, not robots, so it's bigger probability to miss high quality threads for sure.
However, merit source applications should be verified as strictly as possible to avoid potential greedy merit sources, who can abuse the merit system after got acceptance to be a merit source and start using their allocated sMerits for merit exchange.
8531  Other / Meta / Re: language difficulties on: August 09, 2018, 02:32:45 AM
Local boards have their own functions, but most of real-time or fastest updated news often appeared in global boards at first.
I think that is the reason why bitcoin talk is built in with local boards. It is open for any nationality. But is you wanted to communicate well, you should also try to improve your language. NOT that too good but a language that anyone could at least understand.
I think it is not a barrier as long as you try to understand it yourself by learning.

Forum members, especially non-native English speakers, should prepare, and improve their English skills - particularly reading (first) then writing skills - which will obviously help them to be easierly catch ideas of others and also help them to have more efficient discussions in the forum.
I think the poster is concerned that he does not know English very well, but most of the post are in English. So he is scared of missing some important information
It only should be used at the start because translational softwares might do something seriously wrong.
Therefore, forum members should do it themselves (of course, they should have good English skills).
Quote
I guess you can always use some translation site, free on the internet to assists you and can also use it to translate from your native language into English. But be careful because they translator sometimes  translates with grammar mistakes. So it is best to keep it simple to avoid serious errors.
8532  Other / Meta / Re: How do you feel about multiple accounts? on: August 06, 2018, 10:36:48 AM
Long time ago, I read a topic, in which have a thread stated that even the forum staffs have altcoins for their own purposes.
In addition, the forum rules have not prohibited multiple accounts.
I'm entirely alright with multiple accounts, as long as the post quality is alright. As simple as that. People like you should not have multiple accounts, but I don't see why a really active, great contributor would not be allowed to post on multiple accounts...
That's the point!
The true problem is most of alt accounts come from account farms. The owners of account farms simply shown their shits around the forum.
Some of them even used spamming bots (copy & paste, plagiarises, etc) for their money-hunting purposes.
Quote
The amount of broken English, entirely irrelevant comments and awful content we get, isn't caused just by people owning multiple accounts... It's caused by spammers, who are awful by definition and will still use multiple accounts, even if we try to prohibit it.
Of course, it should not be disallowed. Merit system has solved the spamming endemic from account farms by letting those shitty accounts stucked at their low ranks at the start day of merit system.
Quote
I don't think it should be disallowed. And if it were disallowed, how the heck would one catch all the multiple accounts owners?
8533  Other / Meta / Re: Tips to increase the chances of your post being merited on: August 06, 2018, 10:26:16 AM
For the OP, @quesi_job,

Using written English well is very important to express ideas in the way readers can easily understand what writers mean.
However, it is only one of the most important factors can help writers earn merits.
Beside well written threads, forum users also need good contents inside their threads.
How to get high quality (in terms of contents) threads?
It's very simple:
- Spending more time to read.
- Spending more time to think of what you have read, and try to understand what you read. Sometimes, readers can not understand what they read, and it probably takes so many times repeatedly read documents to get the ideas of authors.
- Spending more time to help others based on valuable knowledge which you get through your reading time.

By the way, I would like to share with you my topic on available free online courses on bitcoin and blockchain technology (most of courses are free and online).
Available courses on Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology from colleges and Universities
8534  Other / Meta / Re: How to remain calm and cool on Bitcointalk ? - Question on: August 05, 2018, 07:02:04 AM
I forgot to mention the most important thing.

Use the ignore feature. It is quite amazing how much the forum improves once you have got a few hundred spalluters ( spamming polluters of the boards) in your ignore list.
Adding shitty posters into Ignore List is a good solution, but it is only one of solutions for this issue.
Beside that, using the following things might help:
  • Don't show users' avatars.
    Don't show users' signatures.
    Ignore Boards Preferences
These features help to reduce annoying, uncomfortable feelings automatically pop-up with shitty threads, which widely shown off in the forum.

In the future, learners can learn and get official bachelor or master degrees with online courses.
They might not have to go to schools to get degrees.
Very soon, when blockchain gets very popular people will travel to these schools to learn.

Yeah, they can start anywhere they want, but might be good if start with my given courses.
A great resources for beginners to start their trading journey.
Yeah, learners can get their certificates with Coursera online courses by now, might get official degree in the future.
There are lots of master degree courses in Coursera platform.

8538  Other / Meta / Re: Icon for banned user on: July 30, 2018, 04:44:17 AM
There used to be 5 red crosses for scammers, but I haven't seen any of those lately.
Interesting to know this one.
I joined the forum months ago in 2017, so I did not witness the feature.
Moreover, specific signals for locked accounts should be considered and implemented too.
I think specific icon for locked account might have much help.

In a nutshell, different signals for scammers, banned, and locked accounts should be discussed more.
8539  Other / Meta / Re: How do you feel about multiple accounts? on: July 30, 2018, 04:39:48 AM
The OP author should ask home or herself that whether the topic is necessary or not.

Finding old topics which can give available answers is better than creating a new one.
Some questions asked and been answered repeatedly in the forum.
No need to start a new one links this.
8540  Other / Meta / Re: Tips to increase the chances of your post being merited on: July 30, 2018, 03:15:23 AM
< ... >
Lots of available topics in the forum on "How to earn merits?", "Guideline on how to get merits", etc.
Honestly, I think that there are lots of available topics are really better than yours.
So, my question for you are:
1) Why you did not using search function before creating the topic?
2) Why you did not contribute your ideas in those available topics?

To sum up, I don't see reasonable reasons to start new topic on this aspect Wink
