8302  Other / Meta / Re: The new DT system, updated 15 JaN 2019 on: January 26, 2019, 07:09:42 AM
Since I got some PM's about updating, I will update Once a week. DT List is very dynamic and I can't see the point to update it every day.
Where did you get information of DT1 and DT2 members?
Can you give me link to the original source, from which I can get it myself when I have free time.
I would like to discover it myself.

Thank you.
8303  Other / Meta / Re: How to check potential activity of bitcointalk account? on: January 26, 2019, 06:45:11 AM
That's it.
Since merit introduced activity lost importance.
Furthermore, your account's post history shows that you are hardly to get Merits.
Another minus point is that your red trust.
Together, it means you are probably really hard to get merits, and activitty count will not make sense.
8304  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BitBlender Signature Campaign | Up to 0.0003BTC/Post | Member - Legendary on: January 26, 2019, 06:30:07 AM
I known that the campaign has been full by now.
I leave my application here, and if someone leave the campaign or dis-qualified next weeks, please let me know if I am qualified enough to join the campaign.

I am a self-made Full Member (started from a Junior Member), and have had 140 Merits in total, temporarily.
Thank you.

8305  Other / Meta / Re: Viewing TRUST when not logged in on: January 25, 2019, 02:56:54 AM
Lots of promising benefits. There are crypto investors, who simply visit the forum to get news/ updates/ information/ reports of projects they interested in. Those guys don't have need to communicate with forum community, projects' communities, and so on. However, they should see the trust points of core team's developers to have clearer and more general on what's going on with those projects.
I agree that viewing trust when not logged in could be beneficial.
8306  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Backscratchers: who scratched who's back the most? on: January 25, 2019, 02:09:09 AM
I known about both data dumps from theymos, LoyceV, and the guide of Piggy to run SQL queries.
What I asked is how LoyceV made the list (its contents, and formats).
I don't think he made it manually for the extreme long list.
Theymos does regular data dumps every week. It's likely just a version of that. Loyce, piggy and vod I think keep updated copies of all time merit givings...

Just curious, because I copied the list to Microsoft word, then it crashed (Not responding), so I gave up.
I come back to LoyceV's club to re-check how long the list is.
Honesly, the list is unbelievable long, LOL.

8307  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Backscratchers: who scratched who's back the most? on: January 25, 2019, 01:30:05 AM
Just curious how you made it?
The merit backscratchers list is a very long one. I believe that it takes lots of time to compose and edit it manually.
Hence, I guess you coded to make it automatically.
8308  Other / Meta / Re: Forum innovations in the last 12 months. on: January 25, 2019, 01:27:45 AM
- 1 Merit rule to Rank up
- few more Meritsources
- grin is now accepted for forum payments
- Minor selfmod enhancement
You forgot two things:
- A wave of demotion aimed at Junior Members in September last year (2018).
- A new structure of Trust system.
8309  Other / Meta / Re: Happy birthday, the merit system! on: January 25, 2019, 01:17:57 AM
< ... >
I'd couldn't believe can be ranked up to Hero Member Cheesy
I thought it was impossible rank-up from Full Member to Hero Member

It is obviously a reachable target.
For me, I have gone one-fifth of my journey to Senior position.
Strongly believe that till the end of this year, I will hit the finish line.
8310  Other / Meta / Re: Happy birthday, the merit system! on: January 24, 2019, 04:42:25 PM
Sure, when bitcoin rises and hits its new all time high next years, they will come back, and a new massive wave of spambies will occur.
I don't think that decreasing number of posts made are caused only by Merit system. It's also directly related to Bitcoin price. I remember someone even made chart where we can see relation between Bitcoin price and number of posts made on Bitcointalk.
8311  Other / Meta / Re: Happy birthday, the merit system! on: January 24, 2019, 04:19:04 PM
I think that the demotion option might be a good one.
It's hard to accept for them but why not implementing demotions?
The creation of merit whales with over 1,000 earned merits, has given the legendaries with IMO merits a target to help them to improve their posting.

I am not sure who is the first merit source, but Lutpin is the one I saw his merits increased significantly during early days after the merit system born.
The first one commented after merit system ANN published.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg28856606#msg28856606
He is a good candidate of the first merit source.
And maybe Happy Birthday for the first Merit Sources too , dont know if they was born on this day also !
8312  Other / Meta / Re: One year anniversary of merit system on: January 24, 2019, 04:13:04 PM
Sure. it is easily to see a spike in September in the time series plot.
There was also a boost in merit circulation during that period

Wrong!
They are potential merit abusers.
There is a topic, published by LoyceV about this issue:
List of demoted Jr. Members who were ranked up again
Quote
members with smerits were hunting for good posters to award merits and rank up, likewise demoted jr members improved their posting, which was the sole purpose of the restrictions.
The spike was not simply due to merit abuse.
8313  Other / Meta / Re: One year anniversary of merit system on: January 24, 2019, 03:49:37 PM
Thank you. I added your topic into the OP.
The list of thread givingaway merit is outdated here is a more current thread titled Updated [20/01/2019]: List of Active Merit Giveaways threads. it even has jet cash's video challenge titled "My 25 sMerit offer for a single post"

Why not leave it here some days? I don't think that Meta board is the place for first come first served one.
If topics are helpful, and meaningful, they should be there. Maybe I am wrong, not sure about this.
Quote
also you should consider moving this thread to another board (off-topic)  since we already have an anniversary thread on meta.

ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF MERIT SYSTEM

One year ago today, the forum witnessed one of the most innovative change that entirely and successfully changed the way of spamming control. Merit system launched on January 24, 2018, 11:00:11 PM (forum time), or Wednesday 24 January 2018 22:12:21 (GMT time).
To take away all doubt: the first Merit was this one:
Code:
1516831941	1	2818066.msg28853325	35	877396
Use EpochConverter to convert 1516831941 (Unix Time) to GMT: Wednesday 24 January 2018 22:12:21.
The system launched by theymos, forum admin, with the topic, namely Merits & new rank requirements.
Firstly, we should take a look at the time-series plot of merit circulations in the forum within the past one year.

Time series plot of full dataset (from 24/1/2018 to 16/1/2019)

Time series plot of truncated dataset (from 26/1/2018 to 16/1/2019) [first two days dropped]

From now on, we will take an overview on merit system (its history, upgrades, basic statistics, and helpful guides & topics on merit system and related stuffs)

ABSTRACT
Notes:
- The asbstract describes figures of intraday merits over the period from 19/2/2018 to 14/01/2019 (truncated dataset), except figures of all time high and all time low.
- Days from 24/1/2018 to 18/2/2018 truncated due to highly potential outliers; and days after 14/01/2019 truncated as well due to incomplete week (the third week of 2019 -2019w3);
- Statistics presented in the post are for truncated dataset.
- The part will be updated with the coming data dump from LoyceV on 26th Jan. 2019, I guess that LoyceV will dump data somewhere around that day. For now, simply using the statistics from old dataset.

(1) Potential outliers are days that have intraday total merits beyond 123 or 1163;
(2) Median of intraday merits over the period is 619, whilst the interquartile range is from 513 to 773;
(3) Friday is the day over weeks has lowest intraday merits in terms of both median and mean, at 542, and 617, respectively.
In contrast, Monday is the day over weeks has highest intraday merits in terms of both median and mean, at 748 and 657, respectively.
- All time high of intraday merits is 13018, on the one day period from 24th Jan. 2018 to 25th Jan. 2018, whilst the all time low of intraday merits is 312 on one day period from 24th Dec. 2018 to 25th Dec. 2018.

Chronological history of merit system
Before jumping into chronological history of merit system, we should review where it originated.
Around more than one month before 24th Jan. 2018 [on December 18, 2017, 12:54:08 AM], theymos ask for ideas to improve post quality and/ or at somewhat extent to control spamming endemic in the forum better.
ideas for improving post quality?

1) Launch day: 24/1/2018.
Then, the first forum users discussed about merits there: What is the function of the "Merit" score?. As a result of that, AdolfinWolf is the first one got sMerits from theymos.
How many merits allocated to existing forum users in total?
Theymos stated that there are around 600k sendable merits (sMerits) allocated to forum users.
About 600k.
I am not sure about the figure 600k, when the figure collected, at the first dump or after additional Merits and sMerits allocated to Hero members who satisfied activity threshold on January 27, 2018, 02:57:53 AM (forum time).
Interestingly, an estimated figure of more than 11k sMerits destroyed permanently because they belong to permanent banned users.
Then, bugs found and fixed later.

2) First adjustment: Additional re-allocation merits to Hero members who satistified the threshold of activity over the last one year before the launch of merit system.
The exact formula was:

Code:
yearActivity = activity in the last ~year, max 378
freeMerit = the merit (not sMerit) you started with
modifier =
  0.1 if member
  0.2 if full member
  0.25 if sr member
  0.35 if hero
  0.4 if legendary

return (yearActivity/378) * modifier * freeMerit

So the most you could get is if you were a Legendary who maxed out your activity points in the last year, in which case you would get 1 * 0.4 * 1000 = 400 sMerit.

Note that I later made an adjustment giving 500 extra merit to some hero members, but no extra sMerit was given here.

I'll probably publish a dump of the initial sMerit at some point.
On January 27, 2018, 02:57:53 AM (forum time), less than three days after the launch of merit system.
I decided that the previous allocation was too unfair in this area, so everyone with activity >= 775 got 500 more merit if they didn't already have 1000 merit (and also Lutpin). No extra sMerit, though.
3) Second adjustment: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements
Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.
The change of ranking rules caused a massive merit abusements in September, total sMerits circulation rocketed in September. You can easily see spikes in September from my time series plot. Consequently, there are lots of higher-ranked users got red-tag with their abusements.

Recent days (since 9th January of 2019), the Trust system upgrade with new rules/ operational mechanisms, that led to a new tide of merit circulation. Once again, you can easily see the spikes since 9th Jan. 2019. In my opinion, the new tide has nearly the same fractal pattern of the September’s tide. Addtionally, it’s interesting to see how long the Trust system-related topics will maintain its hot-level. Anyway, the Trust system changes actually resulted in dramatical rises of total intraday merits during last two weeks.

History of merit sources:
1. 24/01/2018: 35 merit sourcess
Does that mean all merit sources are hand selected?
Right. There are about 35 right now.
2. 26/01/2018: 49 merit sources
I was checking merit stats and found that there are now 49 merit sources:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources

Merit sources
There are 49 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 9025 sMerit per 30 days

Initially there were 35 announced and I noticed 1 or 2 people nominating. How come we have an additional 14 in one day ?
I added more. Smiley

By no means is the set of merit sources or their sMerit/month static. I will be adjusting it a lot as needed, especially in the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if there are 100-200 sources in a year from now.

3. 01/03/2018: 57 merit sources in total
This number is much larger than 11975 sMerits, which are currently created by 57 merit sources per month.
The sMerits created by 57 merit sources are not sufficient and most of used sMerits were initially assigned ones.

4. Rose to 123 merit sources in total (not sure when ??)

5. 15/3/2019: Increased to 130 merit sources
This wave happened simultaneously with Vod's remove as a merit source
If I remember correctly, there were 123 Merit sources yesterday. One dropped out:
Theymos has responded to my request to be removed as a merit source.  No more working for free.  Smiley
I think theymos took the opportunity to process new Merit source applications, there are now 130 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 20605 sMerit per 30 days.

How to check temporary total merit sources? Please get it there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources
Code:
There are 131 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 21045 sMerit per 30 days (02 September 2019)
Merit stats page
How many pages reached after only one day of merit system?
More than 51pages, impressive, right?

LOL, sorry about the mistake.
I saw both days in 2018  Undecided
Edited my thread already.
There is more than a year in the period above lol

nullius has 168 activity, which is means he used the forum for about 5 months.

I will find and add your story into the list of inspirational stories.
Well I went from Hero to Legendary, and I think that the Fit to Talk English project, and my merit source blog were contributing factors.
ATM, I enjoy songs in your Bitcointunes store.  Grin

From now on, threads like these twos will be deleted:
18 months ago, you could make money taking part in bounty campaigns.
Having a better rank could give you more money.
Today, the profit from bounties is near zero, so ranking up has no meaning.

This is really good and can serve us in the lower ranks as an inspiration that it is possible to rank up if you try hard enough, have the needed time and also a bit of luck.

If readers feel that the topic is helpful, simply enjoy it.
If they have topics to contribute, please comment, and give link to stories they find.
If there is nothing to contribute, please simply skip or ignore the topic.

Thank you.
8318  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: List of promoted users and their shared stories on their ways to rank up on: January 23, 2019, 12:35:18 PM
I known that, some guys promoted to Hero or Legendary but they did not care to share their stories. It's their choices.
I think that most of those histories were from early 2018, just after the merit system was implemented.
As hero and legendary needs lots of merits, taking a longer time, there are no histories from them (as far as I know)

I also known the case of nullius, and believe that all members who were actively in the forum during early weeks after the launch of merit system known nullius.
That guy appeared as a shooting star, earned lots of merits.
And, his works, unbelievable high-qualited, especially for low-ranked user. He is a classic case study during that period. Lots of forum users admired him, even higher ranked ones.
There is a theory that nullius is alt of someone in the forum, just try two things:
- Trolling Spambies.
- Demonstrating the lower-ranked users can rank up with merit system.
After around three-month period was extremely active in the forum, nullius shut-off. No one knows which reasons behind.
Date of register:
Code:
March 29, 2017, 08:17:00 AM
First thread's publishing day: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=976210;sa=showPosts;start=920 (around 9 months after register day)
Code:
December 01, 2017, 10:11:40 PM
Shut-off day:
Code:
April 24, 2018, 11:02:30 PM

During the period from 01 Dec 2017 to 30 Jan 2018 (nearly 3-month period), nullius made 15-paged threads, after that (from 30 Jan 2018 to 24 Apr 2018 - another 3-month period) he made 32-paged threads more, before shutting off.
In other words, he became much more actively after the launch of merit system.

Maybe if you search a lot you may find something from nullius. He earned more than 700 merits in few weeks here, he knew a lot about cryptography and cryptocurrencies

If I remembered exactly, there is another account considered as alt of nullius, got massive amount of sMerits, been actively after nullius shut-off. I don't remember that account's name.

Finally, I think that I have a relevant tittle for the topic, much better than the last one.
I change the tittle to 'Inspirational stories from self-made promoted users'.

The topic of hugeblack does not contain any story (or that guy edited it and made it empty).
The first one I remember was hugeblack > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3166903.0
I known it months ago.
At that time, your story inspired me a lot.

The thread I made and mentioned above was when I ranked up to Full member

Thanks. I updated the topic with the story already.

I appreciated your list.
I don't think there are many users will tell their stories when they ranked up from Hero to Ledgendary. Maybe they will if they promoted from Senior Member to Hero.
I will screen the list later when I have more time because it is hard to screen all topics of Hero and Ledgendary.

Sorry if the thread is annoying.
I applied yesterday, then known that my rank fullfilled already.
So, if the BitBlender team decide expanding the campaign with more slots or someone else disqualified or leave next few weeks; and if you think that I am qualified enough to join.
Please let me know. I am a self made Full Member.

Now, I come back to my campaign.
Thank you.
