Due to my own mistake by apply to join DuckDice.io campaign, I made the topic:
Guide on avoid red tags by supporting already known scam projects. (The topic's tittle might be changed later).
If you think that this one is relevant for your topic, please add it into your list.  Smiley

Edited: I edit it with more relevant title.
8262  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you want red tags? If not, please following the guide before joining campaign on: January 30, 2019, 01:45:08 PM
Promoting a project which turns out to be scam is not worthy of a red trust (this is my opinion), except it can be proven that the user had information about the scam, or found out at a later time and did not expose the developers.
It's possible to unknowingly enter a promotion campaign for a scam project.

The topic has been under construction.
Anyway, thanks for your contribution.

I am re-organizing the thread.

Objectives
  • To help newbies avoid jumping immediately into scam projects’ promotions;
  • To guide newbies fundamental steps to check scam projects;
  • To help newbies avoid getting red tags (of course).

Table of contents

Reasons of red tags
1) Join and support already known scam projects;
2) Posts with ref links outside the place for signature or phishing links (violates the #4 and #6 rules there: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ); [1]
3) Joining pumping services and get rewards from scam teams;
4) Abusements on forum rules (such as merit sellings, account sellings, trust sellings, and so on);
5) Scamming others to steal their money via loans, etc.
However, in the topic, I only mention about red tags due to supporting already known scam projects.

Signals of scam project’s campaigns
(1)   Extremely high payment rates;
(2)   Easy requirements to get paid;
(3)   Bounty managers with red tags;
(4)   Unstransparent payments after payday, and lack of promise-kept on their payment rates.

To-Do Steps to avoid red tags
(1)   Checking the Trust & Flag history of bounty managers or creators of bounty topics;
(2)   Checking the Trust history of project’s main account in the forum;
(3)   Searching feedbacks/ warnings of community about their project’s trusworthy;
(4)   Investigating feedbacks/ warnings of bounty hunters about their payment history for participants;
(5)   Checking spreadsheets for past weeks;
That's all for bounty hunters.
If you are investors and want to dig deeper in order to make sure that you will invest your money into a good, unscammed one, the following topic will be helpful for you:
Guidelines, how to spot a scam ICO & report effectively. ✔ (by Coolcryptovator)

For my topic, I only guide you those five steps above. Now, let's get started.
(1) Step #1: Checking the Trust history of bounty managers or creators of bounty topics
Let's take the case of recently hot scam bounty, DuckDice.io as a case study.
This one, DuckDice PR is an alt of Duck Dice project, got red trust after opening scam signature campaign.
With - 32 red trust, in total.
Check trust of Duck Dice PR there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2536146

I added the additional guide for Flag:
LoyceV developed his Trust Flag Viewer page, on http://loyce.club/trust/flags/?MD
Steps to check Flags and Flag status of the user you want to investigate Flag history before making deals/ trades.

  • Visiting the page: http://loyce.club/trust/flags/?MD
  • Choosing the newest version: by looking at the date of creation. [a]
  • Using search with keywords: Ctrl F > Entering these keyword combination: flagged + "username of the user you want to investigate"
  • Paying attention on total number of flags, type of flag, and status of flag (Active or not). [c]

[a]: As of writing, the current version is this one: http://loyce.club/trust/flags/225.html
For example:
theymos flagged newsilike as the first user was flagged in the forum (?), here.

So if you use the Trust Flag Viewer page (of LoyceV), and keyword combination: "flagged newsilike", you will see the flag created by theymos highlighted (in Green).

[c]: Total number of flags; type, and status of flags:
Next to the keyword combination is the type of flag (type one for this case).

How many flags newsilike has gotten so far: 1 (see the image)

You can recheck the result by visiting the Trust page of newsilike: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=157669

Advantages of the Trust Flag Viewer page (compare to the personal trust page for each user on the forum):
  • You don't have to log-in your account to see it.

LoyceV's (Personal) Trust Flag viewer [daily updates]
Trust flags

(2) Step #2: Checking the Trust history of project’s main account in the forum
DuckDice.io (main account)
The trust history shown red, with -256 red trust.
Check trust of DuckDice.io there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=917361
If you don't known how to find main account of projects, please clicking on links to ANN topics. Then, you will easily know which ones are main accounts by looking at the OP's author of ANN topics.
Most of bounty topics give link to ANN topic in the OP.

(3) Step #3: Searching feedbacks/ warnings of community about their project’s trusworthy
Both, got red trusts. It's so bad, generally.
Then, let's dig deeper by looking at their trust history. Clicking on the Trust link at profile page of each account, it will lead you to trust history of eaech one.
- DuckDice.io's trust history: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=917361
- Duck Dice PR's trust history: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=2536146
Histories are both badly, too.

(4) Step #4: Investigating feedbacks/ warnings of bounty hunters about their payment history for participants
4.1. Looking at past bounties topics and comments of participants
- For example: [CLOSED] DuckDice.io Signature and Avatar campaign! (opened on February 01, 2017, 04:12:55 PM, closed and locked on February 28, 2017, 06:36:35 PM). Please remember that the old bounty topic locked for no reason. No one knows because the bounty manager did not disclose reasons.
- The newest one that opened days ago, has been locked too.

4.2. Using search with key words (if you don't find anything negative in their past bounty topics)
Details mentioned below.

(5) Step #5: Checking spreadsheets for past weeks
- If campaigns have publicly spreadsheets, at first it is transparent and good.
- Next, check the spreadsheet and see whether they pay for their participants in the past or not.
How to do this? Copying address of one arbitrarily chosen participant, and pasting it into the explorer to see past transactions.
If they really paid for their supporters, they are good.
If they did not pay, one more bad thing found.

How to use forum search funtion?
There you go: [Tips] Guide for forum search (by coly20032003)

How to use key words for your search?
For scam investigation, I highly recommend to use these key words:
- scam
- scam accusation
- exit scam
- scam bounty
- Two essential words:
     +The name of your interest project
     + bitcointalk.
Let's see results with some combination of keywords:

Remove signature and avatar several hours after DT members warned that projects/ bounties are scam

It is a very important step.
If the campaign you joined has not warned as scam at the start, but days or weeks later, DT members tag it as a scam one, and warned that participants should stop supporting it. You should remove all your signature and avatar hours later.
It is un-official rule, but I think DT members will allow you around 72 hours to remove signature and avatar, before tagging you with red trust.
I will add a image of red-tagged case due to keep supporting scam project after received warning from DT members. When I saw a case, I will add it here

Nowhere. Affiliate links (also known as referral links) are not allowed to be in a post anywhere on this forum. You can however have them in your signature.

Honestly, I made my mistake by applying to join DuckDice campaign. I am human, so I made mistakes, it's normal and likely acceptable if I don't repeatedly make it.
Therefore, I think that others can make same mistake and the topic will be helpful for so many forum users.
8264  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful of not getting red-tags by advertising a known scam in your signature on: January 30, 2019, 08:55:39 AM
I think you need to incorporate few more ideas in your thoughts, it is not about red tag only. Have you ever guessed your signature can cause permanent ban if it has phising link?
More than that, supporting shitty projects, that asked for pumping their ANN topics are one of riskiest way to put accounts under red tags.
In a nutshell, I think there are several reasons that might lead to red tags, besides account/ merit/ trust sellings:
1) Join and support scam projects.
2) Posts with ref links or phishing link in signature (violates the #4 and #6 rules there: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ)
3) Joining pumping services and get rewards from scam teams.
8265  Other / Meta / Re: Contradictory rules, account sell VS merit sell. On addition trust view to guest on: January 30, 2019, 08:45:23 AM
Agree!
I view it the same way as I always have.

Buying trust is equivalent to buying reputation.
Buying accounts is equivalent to buying reputation.
Buying merit is equivalent to buying reputation.

WLOG replace buying with selling.

All three are taggable.
In short, buying bitcoin and / or grin coin is a best option at the moment.  Grin

I support to add Coolcryptovator as a new merit source for the forum.

I don't believe small exchanges will have significant contributions in long term, but for now people tend to hurry up with those news.
The only news was that it was rapidly being added to a lot of exchanges (many of them small).  Volume was growing as a result.
How do you think about it?

Which one do you think is better?
8268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: January 30, 2019, 05:01:28 AM
I guess they are just mad at themselves because they didn't buy ETH at ~$80 and the price is now sitting at above 100
It should be better to ignore all time high, intra-year highs.
It should be better to look at the historic price chart and see intra-year lows.
Let's see intra-year lows increased over years or not.
If yes, it is a good growth of Ethereum, definitely.  Grin
8269  Other / Meta / Re: Contradictory rules, account sell VS merit sell. On addition trust view to guest on: January 30, 2019, 04:46:55 AM
Not totally exact!
Account selling is allowed, but only discouraged.
18. Having multiple accounts and account sales are allowed, but account sales are discouraged.

selling accounts is not against the rules.

At least, theymos has not officially stated that selling merits is one of forum rules' violations.
Check it please:
While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.
Maybe, theymos mentioned about the violation of merit selling somewhere else. I will check it more.

Thanks for sharing.
The post of mjglqw is an inspirational one, but it is only a post, not a real story.
So, I reject to add this one into the OP's list of inspirational stories.

Thanks, but I rejected that one because the topic created on 21 Jan. 2018, days before the beginning of merit system.

8272  Other / Meta / Re: Tracking the difference of merit circulations with Default Trust Changes on: January 30, 2019, 04:10:26 AM
It is what I expected, very close to my estimation based on the difference of medians of intra-days merits between periods before and after.
nearly 30% increases of both sMerits generated for merit sources, and of  median of total intraweek sMerits sent in the last two weeks.
So, you maybe right that the rises of merit circulations last two weeks come from the re-allocation sMerits to merit sources and their sMerits-give-away activities.
Anyway, let's see the merit circulation next few weeks to confirm the assumption.
For the 30 days prior to Jan 9 it was already above 16000

What I really wanted is to track the merit circulation over time (before and after periods) to see how long the level of interesting the Default Trust Changes last.
As we known that sMerits are not scarce, quality posts are.
Consequently, I have a feeling that when a new serious changes (or ask for opinion raised by theymos). Forum users, especially 'Etlite' class tend to become more active, discuss more. They, obviously, have enough skills, knowledge, experiences, and ideas to make highly quality posts. As side effects, their posts often got massive Merits in short period after changes implemented. 8273  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 29, 2019, 01:35:03 PM
I would like to look at you when your merits are reset and how would you then sing with your proposal
You even did not read what is merit and how it functions.
Code:
There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.
Merits are un-decayable (by now, theymos has not had plans to decay merits), so you raised a wrong point!

Furthermore, it simply support the suggestion of CryptopreneurBrainboss. I did not make any proposal, so you were wrong again.
The discussion should be stopped here.
8274  Other / Meta / Re: Account security improvement: e-mail confirmation to change password and mail on: January 29, 2019, 01:16:11 PM
In a nutshell, [after read all above posts] I would say some steps are neccessary to secure accounts:
- Strong password: should be as strong as possible, lower & upper case, letter, etc. And, the account's password should be totally different than any other accounts on other platforms (in the case using the same email for different platform).
- 2FA for email that used to register forum account;
- Strong antivirus software, and keep it always updated.
- Staking bitcoin signed address in the forum;
- Keeping the wallet (on computers) as safely as possible.

All those four steps are essential and enough to secure accounts, in my opinion.

I remembered that I read a topic from a Hero/ Ledgendary who get their account back almost immediately after get the email notification.
When I saw the topic again, I will leave the link here.
8275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: January 29, 2019, 01:09:53 PM

It looks similar to the chart of bitcoin before it suddenly dropped hard from $62xx to $41xx
Sometimes (it rarely happens), consolidations and triangle patterns lead to further drops.
I wish that it is not the case of Grincoin.
8276  Other / Meta / Re: Tracking the difference of merit circulations with Default Trust Changes on: January 29, 2019, 12:46:12 PM
I got your points!
They most likely do because (1) the increase seems to have been targeted at those sources specifically who tend to spend most of their allocation and (2) he also reset the sources to their max capacity.

E.g. an active source who had a 100 sMerit allocation and had spent it all by Jan 5, got probably 150-200 brand new sMerits on that day.

Also check this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093301.msg49065513#msg49065513

I noticed an increase within hours after the merit source change, days before DT changes.

However, it is just a theory.
If those merit sources gave away their sMerits with higher rate than usual as well as at faster speed, they probably dried up their allocated sMerits.
Of course, those sMerits sent would be circulated around the forum and contributed to the rise of total Merit circulation.

As you can see in the quote below, the difference between medians of before and after period (the cut-off day is 09/01/2019) is nearly 32 percent.
Therefore, I think that it will become clearer if we know the percentage of increased sMerits for all merit sources after the adjustment from theymos.
If the figure is somewhere around 30%, it explain almost all what we want to see.
< ... >
After two weeks, the median and mean of two-week later period are higher than figures of the before period at 31.8% and 23.2%, respectively.

Edited:
I checked the merit sources stats:
Code:
There are 123 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 20735 sMerit per 30 days
If the reason is from the reallocation of total sMerits allocated to merit sources, the figure before the adjustment should be:
20735/ 1.3 = 15950.
15950 should be the total sMerits per 30 days before the change.
Any ideas or real statistics with the figure 15950?
8277  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 29, 2019, 12:37:18 PM
If you ask me, the jnr and member rank, needs more adjustment the rest are just OK. something like this.

Jnr = 10
Member= 50
If your suggestion become real, we might see a new massive spamming in Meta like we saw in January and February of 2018, but I support your proposal.
Let's see the next adjustment of forum's ranking system.
8278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: January 29, 2019, 12:27:12 PM
That is very strange, checking the 1d chart it seems you are right about that volume number,
but there has to be some kind of mistake or a form of washtrading somewhere as a billion usd in volume
would drastically increase or decrease the price. Much much more then we are seeing with Dash right now (-8% at its lowest yesterday).
Nice point!
If whales actually moved/ cashed out with such very high volume, DASH should be dumped, instead of fell only 8 percent like we all observed.
Therefore, I agreed with you that this is likely a statistical fault on coinmarketcap.com.
8279  Other / Meta / Re: Account security improvement: e-mail confirmation to change password and mail on: January 29, 2019, 03:07:21 AM
This is one of the best solutions, I think.
theymos wants to create an automated process of recovering accounts signing a bitcoin address, which is a more elegant solution and fits the forum

Wrong!
For someone who still thought that 2FA is the best solution, let's spend a minute to think of what will happen if account owners lost their 2FA backup?
Then, they will open a topic in Meta, complaining and asking for help.
2FA backups can be lost, but the quoted of your bitcoin signed address in the forum will not be lost at any odds.
The probability that both your original bitcoin signed address post and quoted-post from your original post deleted together are scarce, almost impossible.
Yes, 2FA is also a very good feature
8280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES - Complete Blockchain ecosystem for a token economy on: January 29, 2019, 03:01:48 AM
why does waves always pump when the whole market goes down, noticed that few times, at least 3 times or Vostok AD leading too that?
It is the same pattern of Dogecoin. Let's note it into the notebook for later investments when market got bloody.
However, this time, Dogecoin has not risen, it has been dumped as others.

Waves, has still been one of exception, rising considerably during those hard days.
