Thanks for the hint.
I will try it later, might be months later, because I have to learn SQL queries in order to retrieve necessary data variables for my analysis from raw data given by @Theymos.
You can get the original by scraping all profiles, start with https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1 and move up from there.
Luckily, Piggy did that already and shared the data.

Great initiatives!
I thank you so much for your intention to help.
Quote
I tried to quickly get you a list of new accounts per day, but it proves to be harder than expected to extract the registration date from each line (in Raw.zip), so I gave up (for now).

For others,
It is just a hint from my analysis:
Updated the OP, weekly, and monthly analyses, with more interesting findings, including the following table.
Daily merits
The median of daily merits of the period before 19th Feb. 2018 is 3.4 times higher than as of the period since 19th Feb. 2018, at 2154 and 627, respectively.
For full merit dataset, the all-time-high is 13018, and all-time-low is 370.

Weekly merits

Monthly merits

For more details, please visit and re-read the OP, everyone.
My topic is here
8422  Other / Meta / Re: Time Series Analysis on Distributed Merits in the forum (daily, weekly, monthly) on: November 18, 2018, 02:05:44 PM
I know, it doesn't matter at all. Only one day before or after the r-eal one. I think we can accept it.

By now, there is no day with total distributed merit below 130, and the current lowest is 370. It is likely that merit sources and forum users actively sent their smerits around.
8423  Other / Meta / Re: Time Series Analysis on Distributed Merits in the forum (daily, weekly, monthly) on: November 18, 2018, 01:34:59 PM
Sure, I will. This is my original intention.
What I have posted are only descriptive ones. More things to come later.
Something like this one:
Can you replace the linear "Fitted values" by something that fits all values better? I think a logarithmic fit could work.

I am not sure, but I guess it probably come from effects of two factors:
1) New merit sources in June. Not sure, because I can not check.
via the link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources, I can get only statistics on merit sources for today, not the past ones. I meant we might get something interesting if be able to retrieve time-series data of merit sources, and a total merit generation of up to 22045 sMerit per 30 days of those sources per day. Maybe weekly data is enough because @Theymos probably have not spent too much time to check and add new merit sources per day.  Smiley
I don't familiar with this, and can not retrieve the data, but you probably can do this with your skills (I guess).
2) Something behind the scene, from the dark side of the forum. Something like suddenly rocket of autobanned accounts (high-ranked ones, of course).

Anyway, thanks for your ideas, from now on, I will keep tracking these two figures (total merit sources, and their total smerit generated per month).
Quote
Any idea what happened on Day 153: 1138 Merit? I noticed that already when I first produced the data.
Now, let's take a look at truncated dataset (I truncated all days before 19th February, the same approach as of weekly analysis).
I will update the OP with truncated daily data analysis.
What I got:
IQR = 788 – 525 = 263;
1.5*IQR = 1.5*263 = 395
Potential outliers are days with total merits above 1183 or below 130. The mentioned day (153th in the dataset) with 1138 merits in total is likely a potential outlier, very close to 1183.
-   Potential above outliers: Q3 +1.5*IQR = 788 +395 = 1183
-   Potential below outliers: Q1 – 1.5*IQR = 525 – 395 = 130
Days with figures outside the interquartile range (from Q1 to Q3) should be considered as potential outliers, and days with figures outside the Q3 + 1.5*IQR and Q1 - 1.5*IQR are highly potential outliers.
Moreover, the median of daily merits from truncated dataset is 627, not change too much than the rest two dataset at 653 and 650 for full, and partially truncated ones, respectively. Median shows magic meanings, again.
I surely will do it regularly, because it is my purpose to start the topic.
Highly appreciate your help by giving me daily data (updated on weekly basis is enough).
Quote
Will you do regular updates? I can provide input data weekly, it's not much work:

By the way, I would clarify that the weekly statistics in my analysis are different than yours.
Why?
I used you daily datapoint, then converted them to weekly one one the structure of real calendar.
It means that the first week in the data set (from 24th to 28th of January) contains only five days, Wednesday to Sunday.
I will keep using the approach for my weekly analysis.

Delete account by users themselves or with support from forum mods after requests sent.
It is my first time to know it.
delete this account (to avoid having multiple accounts) when account recovery is successful.

After that, I searched and found that there is no way to delete accounts. Did you miss something, fella?
Staff's answer given below.
Accounts cannot and will not be deleted. Any messages to you send to any staff member about deleting an account will be ignored. You cannot delete your account.
Another answer is here (in 2018)
It's not possible. Just abandon it.

Another option is send request to @Theymos, wait for his support. One more time, can not delete, just change account's name to 'Anonymous'. That's all. Nevertheless, I doubt that @Theymos has still supported this way, because it's unnecessary.
As you can see here, I only change the username to "Anonymous" on request.

Based on what I got from searching time, it's impossible to delete bitcointalk forum's accounts. Abandon them is only option.

I have a question.
Did you really make a investigation about Howeycoin?
I think that the project is very well structured, especially in the financial sector and certified by the government of the United States, it gives that feeling of confidence and security to its investors.

This is main reason why Theymos started this one.
American educational style, in summary.

I think it will be very successful. In what way can be part of the project, I would like to have a little more information about it.
8427  Other / Meta / Re: How to deal with bumping via fake conversation? on: November 17, 2018, 03:10:48 PM
It would be far, far better to just lock the thread (and ban the OP) but given my experiences reported above I'm not holding out much hope that will happen. I haven't tried reporting bots for pyramid quoting, mainly because I am skeptical they will be marked good but I'm also not really how sure how best to word my comment for such. I might ask Welch in his guide thread about that when I have a few spare minutes.
The fact is, forum mods have not had enough time to watch around, and ban or lock all topic which abundant with pyramid quoted posts.
it requires massive amount of time.
Unfortunately, the forum mods are human, like us, so I think that we all should understand their stressful works.
And, dominant proportion of those pyramid threads are come from spammers, account farmers. This is fact, I have no doubt about it.
Those sort of accounts even don't care about what they did, simply leave non-sense comments, fake conversation, pyramid quotes, etc. to get postcount. Nothing more than that.  Undecided

Thank you. I searched and found that most of autobanned come from account abnormal activities, such as changing the email, password, woke up, etc. simultaneously.
Users get autoban for serious violations of the forum rules - plagiarism, spam, etc.

Is it often that a user needs to change both the password and the email? I hope not.

Password changes are important, yes. But more often than not, an email change signifies a change of hands with the account ownership.

(Given that this is a security feature, anyway. I believe that the account is only locked when the email is notified or when a security question reset occurs)

Say "Alexa, ask Google where is Howeycoins website".
Howeycoin, which started months ago, is a classic example of American educational approach.
Nice initiative from the forum admin to wipe out scam projects, or at least educate New comers in crypto ecosystem on how to identify scam projects, and avoid got scammed.
8430  Other / Meta / Re: Time Series Analysis on Distributed Merits in the forum (daily, weekly, monthly) on: November 17, 2018, 01:01:10 PM
Thank you.
I got my typos, and fixed it.
530 -531 = -1 (instead of 1)
It will mean that nothing is potential outlier in below Q1 range now.

As I stated above, I have intention to truncate extreme values, outliers for later analysis.
From real dataset, there are 24 potential outliers (nearly 8.4% of 286 observed days so far), which listed below. Only three of those 24 outliers occured after the first of Mar. In other words, 87.5% (21/24) of those outliers occured within January to February.
Full dataset will be used only for descriptive plots, whilst truncated one will be used for analysis.
Extreme values or outliers dramatically affect on results, and might mislead readers far away from the truth.

I think, you have to leave some datapoints in doing this analysis like start of Merit system and the day when number of Merit source increased. These datapoint are affected and are not same as their previous day.
8431  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: November 17, 2018, 11:53:53 AM
Weekly update, we have an up after the sources recharge, still very low.

This week saw the 4.9% decrease of total distributed merits (at 4173) compared to the median of previous period (at 4390). It means that despite of this week rise, total merits distributed has been a little bit below normal weekly figure, at 4390.
When the current week’s figure accounted for, the median of the whole period, from 05/03/2018 to 11/11/2018, fell from 4390 to 4379.

Additionally, this one is weekly statistics based on LoyceV data source, which started since the first day of merit system.
I guess there are very limited, insignificant difference between data sources from @LoyceV and @coinlocket$.
The first row presents statistics for full weekly data, from 24/01/2018 to 07/11/2018.
It shows that the median and interquartile range are 4492 and (3854 – 6707), respectively. Whilst the minimum and maximum figures are 1658 and 30948, respectively.
The second row presents statistics for truncated weeky data (first four weeks truncated). After excluding extreme values in the first four weeks, the median of the period from 19/02/2018 to 07/11/2018 is 4367, which is very closely to the figure drawn from @coinlocket$ data. Addtionally, the interquartile range is 3181 to 5487. Minimum and maximum values are 1658 and 8806, respectively. There is a little bit difference in the maximum figures, 8806 from @LoyceV and 9684 from @coinlocket$ data sources.

8432  Other / Meta / Re: [MERIT][NSFN] We're destroying more merits than we're sending. Like, way more. on: November 16, 2018, 05:10:33 PM
I have updated the OP with another month's worth of data. Two months total now. The trend is roughly the same, except we're sending fewer merits.
Yeap, daily distributed merits decreased over time, and have been at  nearly the median since January.
Medians mean true means, somewhere around true means, and at bottoms, of course.
I made a time series plot on daily merits, which present the general decreasing trend.
Here you go:
Time series analysis on distributed merits in the forum (daily, weekly, monthly)

650 merits in total per day is current median, and I believe that it will not change significantly over time.
If Theymos will not implement something big in the future, 650 merits distributed over users per day will be a long-lasting figure.
8433  Other / Meta / Re: How to deal with bumping via fake conversation? on: November 16, 2018, 07:39:35 AM
The type of over-pumping topics usually contain many pyramid quotes, which are almost non-sense discussion, inside.
Hate to say this, but pyramid quotes hurt my fingers and take lots of my time to scroll computer mouse to scan and find worthy posts to read.
It's hard to assess one post is meaningful, constructive or not; because it is only value for each reader who has specific demand and knowlegedge. One post might be meaningful for someone, but is un-meaningful for others.
Nevertheless, pyramid posts are definitely undeserved my time to read.

8435  Other / Meta / Re: Dear Newbies: Please don’t buy Merit! on: November 16, 2018, 06:51:38 AM
Let spambies freedom to buy merits, simultaneously with potential red tags.
Give them free options.
I don't see reasons to remind them about this because they all known it (I believe), but simply want to take risks.
8436  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: November 15, 2018, 03:47:23 AM
Really?
Personally, I don't think that the suggestion should be implemented at any odds.
At least, in short term, there will be no significant negative impacts if this approach implemented, might be months later.
Nevertheless, years later, the approach will definitely result in a new massive spambies automatically ranked up to Junior members. After that, they will certainly start to spam the forum again.
One more thing, which type of rank for them? I suggest a Effortlessly Junior Member for them. Roll Eyes
If I remembered exactly, the suggestion raised by so many guys months ago, shortly (days/ weeks after the implementation of merit system).
To sum up, the suggestion should not be taken into consideration and implemented at any odds.

Let spambies to be who they are, be spambies forever; don't give them generous opportunities to move upwards effortlessly. They should only be able to rank up with their intensively works

Let's visit my topic, created hours ago.
Time Series Analysis on Distributed Merits in the forum (daily, weekly, monthly)
One of time series plots in my topic

There have a lot of merit analysis and people already have tasted the system almost 10 months.

Where did you get the figure?
Quote
Well, there are currently 119 merit sources.

It's only a prediction. It will mainly depends upon the performance of current merit sources.
If newest sources do their works well, without abusements, violations on basic rules for merit sources; Theymos might add more merit sources.
In contrast, total merit sources might decrease significantly.
Quote
Over the span of time, I strongly believe, theymos will implement some more merit sources, maybe more 100 or so. It can also be higher if we have qualitive application, IMO. Therefore, no one will face any kinda issue if s/he can post some good quality posts.

Reserved for quarterly analysis.
Only reserved, because it might take years to get enough quarterly data points.

Monthly Analysis:

Overview plot and trend
General trend has been downward, despite of one spike due to adjustment on rank requirements aims at Junior Member rank.

Mean +/- standard deviation; Median (Interquartile range)

The median of monthly merit so far is 18752 is interesting figure.
I remembered that I read somewhere else from another topic with almost the same figure around 18k merits distributed in a specific month.
If you know it, please share the link to me. Thanks all in advance.

Under construction, will add more details when the dataset become bigger with more monthly datapoints.
