881  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OK. I am making this my long-term goal. on: August 08, 2015, 06:17:01 PM
Bitcoin helps the Gig economy by allowing a single currency to be used to hire any contractor around the world (for work that can be done remotely). This would apply to writers, graphic designers, coders, artists, business consultants. No those people can bid on work from any country in the world and get paid via bitcoin with minimal fees and no need for currency exchange.

Is there a beitcoin-dedicated freelance jobs site? Like www.freelance.com?
882  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dubai builds world's largest indoor ski slope on edge of heat-baked desert on: August 06, 2015, 04:23:25 AM
This will be their second indoor skiing slope. It's funny that they now have enough ski areas for people to make Dubai an option for their ski trips!

I've skied at Ski Dubai, it was cool. The snow was a bit slushy, they have two main runs, one "groomed" and the other moguls. It was good...it worked...there was even a chalet style lounge at the bottom to enjoy the apres scene.
883  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is WWF's position on trophy hunting on: August 06, 2015, 04:20:49 AM
Is this a joke?

Wil, did you ever think the WWF wouldn't be against trophy hunting ANIMALS?

Maybe you're being sarcastic...

Here's a list of a ton of organizations against the sport hunting of animals, game, and fish -> http://www.all-creatures.org/links/hunt.html
884  Economy / Securities / Re: Anything sustainable worth of investing? on: August 06, 2015, 04:15:50 AM
Hey guys,

I post these questions a lot recently on different forums but I ve not been able to receive a satisfactory answer. Has BTC economy really turned into a sea of ponzies and scam?
Is there ANYTHING worth of investing these days? Anything which might provide sustainable dividend, regardless of how low it might be?

Pls do not post cryptodublers, pyramid schemes, 5% per day ROI websites and similar junk. Only verifiable and transparent options pls.

How can you invest in something that requires a transaction that's essentially anonymous, isn't reversible, and has zero recourse if one gets scammed? If you want an investment opportunity you convert your bitcoin to fiat and then use that fiat to buy your investment. The bitcoin will only be in fiat for a few days (at most). Honestly, it's the only legitimate way to do it at this point.

I guess there's one other option - create an honest investment for us to engage in...
885  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: August 06, 2015, 04:13:22 AM
Maybe we should make a public shame/spammer thread and list all the spammers?

start a "list of sig spammers" thread in meta maybe? wouldnt want to derail this thread and it wouldnt really fit anywhere else.

CIYAM has a list of people to ignore, it's mostly people with signatures...but he'll probably give it to you if you PM him.

Here's another ignore list -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1019752.0
886  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where is the trusted escrow list? on: August 06, 2015, 04:09:37 AM
I need to use an escrow, but I cant find the list! Thanks in advance.

Want to give someone their first opportunity to earn some trust? I'll escrow for free to earn your trust...
887  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: August 06, 2015, 03:43:47 AM
Another faucet bitter spotted. Don't compare faucets to signature campaign. Faucet plays another role. As you see he is on Yobit's signature campaign which has a daily post limit. What if he like to do faucets after he reached that limit? What if he just like to faucets because he is having fun doing that? Many people have the reasons why they still use faucets. Even those in high rank here still claiming at faucets. Everyone knows signature campaign is much better than faucets but they are "different".

Why do you promote faucets? Are you a faucet owner? The only people who makes money from faucets is faucet owners. I know 2 faucet owner, they make 5000$ month average.
On a user side people only waste time when they solve captchas.

I didn't earn any bitcoin today, but the day is still young.
You really missed his point. Faucet isn't just a way to earn bitcoins, they are there to preserve a special environment of bitcoin, an environment for newcomers to test and taste bitcoin system. And his point, claiming faucet is really a personal thing, they loved their small income and comparing them to signature campaign really killed those point

This a great point - it's a akin to nickel (5 cent) arcades or penny slot machines. The early days when bitcoin was young there were these games of chance called faucets...I still play on freebitco.in (PM me for my referral link and I'll kick some back to you).

You never know when you'll hit a lucky spin or win their weekly lottery! It's like playing the regular lotto with out the monetary expense!
888  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Bitcoin need a new theory of money? on: August 05, 2015, 06:43:42 AM
Conventional theories of money assume that money is backed by precious metal (the theory known as bullionism) or by the state (chartalism) but Bitcoin is backed by neither. Economists also often define money as anything that serves as a medium of exchange, but Bitcoin isn't much good at that either (so far, at least). So does that mean Bitcoin is not money, or is the problem with these theories?
I have posted a paper on this question here, comments/responses appreciated: http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2624371

Is it too soon to think that "backed b the state" may be losing it's value? As long as governments keep manipulating money there will likely be an interest and audience for bitcoin.

What data did you find for the purposes of your study? Thanks for sharing it!
889  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Cecil the Lion:Zimbabwe FINALLY bans trophy hunting after 1million sign petition on: August 05, 2015, 06:34:23 AM
I love that Zimbabwe is trying to extradite him to get him to answer to the charges filed against him in that country.

I don't understand the allure of killing animals like this. Clearly the "fees go to conservation" doesn't make it better, it merely offsets/nuetralizes what the hunter takes.

The "hunt" isn't a thrill, waiting in a bush for animals to walk by can't be thrilling...sounds awfully boring. There should be some sport involved.

What I don't understand is why this one lion is the trigger that gets a bunch of people to stand up to this activity that's been going on for DECADES? I'm not saying that just because it's going on for a long time it can't change but what's so special about now to get people so upset to act? What's the catalyst? Is it just the personification of a lion or is it something more?
890  Economy / Collectibles / Re: ANACS Graded Casascius Coins for Sale or Trade on: August 05, 2015, 06:22:56 AM
I think you mean he paid market rate for those coins. If they were worth more in this market, they would have sold for a higher price, no?

Not necessarily. It depends on a few things. If the auction was 1 hour long, the market may not spit out the actual value. Everyone isn't present all the time, and other things happens too. I think at most we can say that it was sold at least relatively close to the market price.

Really? So how long must something be on the market for a market price to be determined? How many bidders need to approach one seller to validate the sale price?

I think the market spoke, especially since i know that QS didn't have the coin offered up for an hour but more like two days. I think "market equilibrium" is a better term for what you're explaining.

891  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Grading Coins - A Few Basic Questions. on: August 05, 2015, 06:18:25 AM
I have a few questions for those who are knowledgeable about the grading process.

Which companies grade crypto-coins? ANACS does and CGS in the UK but who else?

ANACS is in the US. And to my knowledge your list is correct. The challenge though is that ANACS is seen as a less reputable coin grading firm (although it's one of the oldest) compared to the others out there. I guess it doesn't matter much when they're one of two firms doing grading, or maybe their willingness to grade any crypto-coin reinforces the "less reputable" perception.

Some people swear that the hologram - it's condition, alignment on the coin, and the first bits alignment on the hologram (e.g., many on Casascius coins are crooked) - is not considered as part of the grade. I'm not convinced, given that these coins are rarely circulated so most would have a very high and same grade if not for variances in the hologram.

Maybe you could try to interview someone from ANACS to get a real understanding of how crypto-coin grading is perceived and conducted.

Good luck with the crypto-coin book!
892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you spending your Bitcoin? on: August 05, 2015, 06:06:24 AM
I just read this:
http://www.finance-guy.net/finblog/how-will-you-spend-your-bitcoin/10/8/2014

Makes an interesting point.  If we buy stuff with BTC and the company just sells it for cash right away, it's probably not good for the BTC price.

What do you think?  Will shopping with BTC be good or bad for BTC?

Yeah, he has a great point. But this immediate conversion to cash is more probably when the price of bitcoin is volatile and new. This article was written a year ago, I wonder if this guy has a different opinion. Bitcoin certainly feels a bit more "regular" now that it did a year ago, less foreign or obscure.
893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tons of dust transactions from address "1mtgox..." what is this? on: August 05, 2015, 05:19:59 AM
This is weird. The transactions keep coming too, for about the same amount. But it looks like the address is paying itself - I'm sure I'm not reading the site correctly, what am I missing? How do we know where the transactions from this 1mtgox address are going?

How did you stumble on this?
894  Other / Meta / Re: buying trust from me!! on: August 05, 2015, 04:51:25 AM
hey mates from somedays when I was surfing on bitcointalk some people's are asking me to give them +ve truse as they will offer me a price in return.so I generally ignored them..but is this kind of servic is avalible here in bitcointalk to buy trust with money..for me it doesn't make sence..and also tell me what are the advantages of +ve trust

I think if you were selling your trust you'd get called out for it really quickly. People would either give you negative trust or forum mods would shut you down.
895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin CEO arrested and Blockchain hacked on: August 05, 2015, 02:55:19 AM
The mainstream media has so much to talk about bitcoin this week Wink

The subject of this topic doesn't make sense...have you ever heard of a "Dollar CEO" or a "Euro CEO" or a "Yuan CEO"?

If only the people that need to learn this could be here reading it...

Why didn't you bid on my auction? I literally just auctioned one off two days ago and the winning bid was a measly 2BTC

I know man, I fell asleep.  Analog Kid got a deal there!
You might want to contact him as he now has two of those coins that he got basically for free  Shocked

I think you mean he paid market rate for those coins. If they were worth more in this market, they would have sold for a higher price, no?

I'm not discounting the great coins you have but we have to trust the market as being efficient and drawing out the most fair price available at any given time.
897  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How do you know if you've been tagged by a referral code? on: August 04, 2015, 05:10:05 AM
Man, I really hate people like you. Imagine yourself showing something useful for free money, explaining for hours, making a nice thread etc etc and then an idiot comes with the most useful information in the world, I DON'T WANT TO USE YOUR REFERRAL LINK I WON'T MAKE YOU ANY MONEY YOU FUCKER, rly man? Cry me a river.

Wow, you hate people like me? What does that mean (your comments wee kind of sporadic)?

I never said I didn't want to be someone's referral, I made two points

1) how do I know if I'm Simone's referral?

2) if we all used the sites we were referred to we'd all make some money!

You shouldn't assume people have ill intentions, it's an awful way to go through life.
898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Participants wanted for the study on Bitcoin user experience and perceptions on: August 03, 2015, 03:55:37 PM
When your survey is complete, please come back here to share your results with us. Researchers come here often asking for the time and thoughts of the community here and rarely, if ever, do they return to share what they've learned.

We'd all appreciate learning from the findings of your study, it's a fair trade for our time.

Thanks and good luck!
899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Microsoft's Bing Launches Bitcoin Rewards Sweepstakes on: August 03, 2015, 07:07:58 AM
The existing bing users will earn extra little money! But I have to say Google is still the best search engine. I wouldn't switch to bing for the little money! Microsoft should work on the improvement of its services to attract customers.

Bing is awful. Yahoo is significantly better, even though their search results don't distinguish well between ads and legit results.

Thanks to TheButterZone for sharing the link, i'll check it out.

Bing is basically artificially increasing their searches (i.e., ppl conducting searches), which is the metric they use to set advertising rates. The $5 Amazon cards are like faucet dust compared to what they'll make in advertising dollars as a result. Just another corporation preying off the "poor" to make another $1 Million...it goes against what a lot of us believe in. Remember that before you subscribe to this shit.
900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: The End of Money as We Know It | Full Movie on: August 03, 2015, 06:59:42 AM
so its a documentary about bitcoin. I dont think this will be taken down but just in case it is i'll be downloading it so i can watch offline. thank you for posting the link.

It'll be taken down because it was just released (in July) and was available for viewing at the Producer's website for $5.99 (accepting bitcoin only of course). The YouTube version is pirated!

Official Link to the movie: https://video.popchest.com/videos/embedded/176

Link to the producer's website: http://theendofmoneyasweknowit.com/

Leave reviews here at IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4654844/

If you plan to watch the YouTube link version, the pirated version, be a good sport and float these guys a decent tip equal to the value you gained from the education and entertainment. And then tell a friend about it and give them the Official Link above so they can pay the full, yet very fair price.

If you believe that the fiat currency system and banks have an unfair advantage, don't steal from the people who are trying to bring awareness to that unfair advantage.
