2501  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you listen to the radio? on: May 26, 2014, 04:11:10 PM
I'm an album listener. I generally don't care much for listening to a mix of songs, so even if local radio had a station of music that I liked, I still probably wouldn't listen that much.
2502  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Italy to add drug trafficking, prostitution to GDP figures on: May 26, 2014, 02:58:02 PM
http://rt.com/news/161140-italy-drugs-prostitution-economy/

If Mexico and Columbia adopted this accounting model they would lead the world's ecomomies. Unless China placed a value on all the intellectual property it steals, in which case it would outstrip everyone. Cheesy
The article seems to confuse GDP with GDP growth. If revenues are included in the figures for the first time, that does not translate as GDP growth: estimates should be made for previous years, whereupon the total growth rate can be calculated more accurately.
2503  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iran hangs billionaire over bank fraud on: May 26, 2014, 02:56:31 PM
I am surprized that nobody mentions this but in islam (using sharia jurisdiction, as Iran claims to be) it is not possible to get a death sentence because of fraud, highest punishment for this would be cutting his "stealing" hand. Killing someone because he stole something / or fraud was never the case in islamic jurisprudence.
2504  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russians boycotting US food industry. on: May 26, 2014, 02:54:44 PM
This is the original news article which triggered this thread.

Russia will not import GMO products - PM Medvedev

http://rt.com/news/russia-import-gmo-products-621/

The Americans interpreted Medvedev's statement as a boycott against the American food industry.
Good!!! Now all the Russians need to do is ban chemtrails in the sky; ban fluoride from water, toothpaste and food, and food made with toxic pesticides and nanotechnology; ban use of amalgams and stop using ultrasound on pregnant women.
2505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Willy Report...What do you guys make of it? on: May 26, 2014, 02:40:15 PM
Wow. I am shocked. Pretty much all I thought I knew about the history of Bitcoin seems to be fake, all the bubbles, the crazy rides... all just driven by a crazy fat dude who loves overpriced coffee drinks. Thank you for the thorough report, I learned a lot.
2506  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is BITCOIN more expensive than other cryptocurrency? on: May 26, 2014, 12:32:36 PM
Bitcoin’s value is bigger then other cryptocurrencies because  is not as easy to mine as other crypto currencies.
2507  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dealing with idiots. on: May 24, 2014, 06:16:37 PM
If you have a problem with someone, sit down and explain it. Ignoring it or ignoring them is being an idiot. There is only one reality and in that reality we all understand each other and everything. If you don’t explain your feelings or actions, that makes you the idiot.
2508  Other / Off-topic / Re: What video games do you play? on: May 24, 2014, 06:15:05 PM
Having played it, it's a copy of Bejeweled except that Bejeweled is a lot more fun to play and doesn't lock you out if you don't win a game in a certain number of moves. Don't know why people play it really.
The difficulty is what makes it fun - I have made it to Level 437 without in game purchases and I intend to make it to the end in the same vein.
2509  Other / Off-topic / Re: What video games do you play? on: May 24, 2014, 03:44:18 PM
Thanks to my girlfriend, I'm not addicted to Candy Crush. Well, not addicted addicted, but I play it pretty much everyday now.

I'm really starting to rethink out relationship.   Grin
Thanks to my wife i've been playing it for 2 years! It is addictive.
It's a good game though. I think the music is what hypnotizes me, plus the sounds. Very relaxing. I'm too embarrassed to play it in public though. It's my own dirty secret.
2510  Other / Off-topic / Re: In what sports do men and women compete at the closest to the same level? on: May 24, 2014, 03:34:06 PM
Pretty much any sport where strength, speed or size are not the primary determination of winner.
Archery, shooting, curling, race car driving, equestrian etc.

How does the US, always end up in the Group of Death?? Group H is ridiculous...
If we get out of this group, that means we deal properly with Portugal (CR7's team), Germany (World power of a team), and Ghana (Our nemesis).
If we get out...we will have done well, and no team would say that we got out easy. If we get out we shall not be the ones fearing.
Fair enough. I still hold hope our boys will do well, but I think Klinnsman has a lot more choices to make before next month.

But we all know americans think football is a pussy sport, so yeh that why european people hate it.

Wow... football is the no.1 sport globally, in terms of popularity. If Americans don't like the no.1 sport, then there can be two reasons.

1. The Americans have a very bad taste for sports.
2. The rest of the world is having a very bad taste for sports.
Well i am american and i tell you I love football and my friends too!I can't talk for all the americans but most of the people i know and meet like football. Here is  proof  : http://www.harrisinteractive.com/NewsRoom/HarrisPolls/tabid/447/ctl/ReadCustom%20Default/mid/1508/ArticleId/1136/Default.aspx

The only thing I have learned from this is that Euro people really hate the USA and don't want to give us any credit. Apparently unless USA is in Group E instead of France, then we automatically lose out.

President Jose Mujica signed a decree outlining the fine print of the new policy this month. It says Uruguayans will be able to buy up to 10 grams of marijuana a week in pharmacies at between 85 cents and US$1 a gram, a price comparable to black-market pot.

Let's see where it will take them, sounds like a right step. I am not so sure about the army controlling some, though. hm..
2516  Other / Off-topic / Re: When will the USA go to WAR? on: May 23, 2014, 07:27:39 PM
United States would be mad to get into a situation where a military confrontation with Russia were even possible. Unfortunately, this does not mean that such a situation would not be possible in the right circumstances.
Nobody would have thought that the assassination of an Austrian archduke and his wife could produce the firestorm of World War I. Some historians have said that either side in that war would have been better off if it had accepted the other side’s most extreme terms at the outset. Theodore Roosevelt had a good point about “speaking softly and carrying a big stick.” Vainglorious ranting of “we are all Ukrainians now” is something that should be avoided, not encouraged.
2517  Other / Off-topic / Re: Favourite Game of Thrones character? on: May 23, 2014, 07:17:52 PM
It's funny how many people could actually be called the "main character", but even in the books they have yet to entirely reveal who that actually is.
My bet is on Daenerys.
I've learned not to like any characters by now, though. As soon as I like someone they die.

I think both of them are equal in their own right. They were written in different times, different environments and circumstances -both are great reads, but still unique in their style and meaning.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia plans to sign a contract with Iran this year to build two more nuclear reactors at its Bushehr power plant as part of a broader deal for up to eight reactors in the Islamic state, a source close to the negotiations told Reuters on Thursday.

It was not immediately clear how this might affect six global powers' talks with Iran addressing disputed aspects of its nuclear program. Iran has resisted demands for cuts in its uranium enrichment capacity, pointing to plans for a future network of nuclear power stations.

Western powers want any lasting agreement with Iran to put to rest suspicions that it could develop nuclear weapons-making ability through enrichment. Iran denies any such intent.

The talks ended last week with little progress; they are to resume in Vienna in June.

Russia, one of the six powers, built Iran's only operating nuclear power reactor, at Bushehr.

"Russia and Iran may sign an intergovernmental agreement this year on building from four to eight nuclear reactors, and, under the deal, the contract for the construction of the first two reactors as additions to Bushehr," the source said.

Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom said earlier it was in talks with Iran on the potential construction of more reactors there but revealed no details. Rosatom officials could not immediately be reached for comment on Thursday.

Longstanding Western fears that the Bushehr project could yield spent fuel of use in nuclear weapons - something it denies it is seeking to do - receded after Iran promised to send the material back to Russia.

Moscow voted for four rounds of U.N. Security Council sanctions against Iran over its contested nuclear activity but has sharply criticized additional measures imposed by the United States and European Union, calling them a hindrance to diplomacy in search of a permanent settlement with Tehran.

I know the western freak show over Iran going nuclear is way overblown but it is sure used as a boogyman by neocons (the war on terror was yesteryear's boogy) to maintain support w/i the republican party by pretending to be defense hawks which shrouds their whoring for MIC profits. Anyone remember the clip of Obama whispering to Putin prior to his reelection saying that afterwards he'd have more leeway in foreign affairs.. I wouldn't be surprised if this Ukraine stuff and this nuclear biz is all meant to keep money flowing to weapons and tech innovation for all related top world companies as sort of a shell cold war 2.0 game. It's obvious to anyone w/ any semblance of intelligence that the US has already sold the farm and there's no financial way out besides inflation and war games to provide cover and shift domestic tension elsewhere the best they can. Think of the way North Korea plays their cards.
"Russia, one of the six powers, built Iran's only operating nuclear power reactor, at Bushehr."
This is the sort of disinformation that misleads the American public. Russia didn't "build" that nuclear power reactor. Russia "completed" the nuclear power reactor project that was abandoned by Germany following the 1979 Revolution. That project was the brain child of the US espoused by then US Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, in his "atoms for peace" initiative. It supported the idea of building nuclear power plants in Iran to meet domestic energy demands in order to free up the extra hydrocarbons for export. Also, in the 60s/70s, it had been projected that Iran's oil reserves would have been exhausted by 2010 and the general consensus among the Western nations was that Iran needed nuclear power to secure its energy supply.
Today, the West pretends as if the idea of Iran wanting nuclear energy for domestic use is completely absurd.
2520  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If you could create a new society from the ground up, what would you do? on: May 23, 2014, 05:31:00 PM
Too many people are focusing on the political system of the new society.  The reality is that the political system will end up reflecting the population's inherent nature, sooner or later.

The solution is to carefully select your people.  Good genetics = good society.  Whatever traits you want society to have make sure that they are abundant in your founding stock.  Additionally you will want a sense of community, so make sure to select a small number of people, so that eventually everyone will have some sort of family connection to everyone else.  I might go with as few as 64 founders, assuming that we would have rapid population growth to cope with inbreeding concerns, though I would probably double or triple that just to be safe.  If population couldn't grow then I would select about 3000 founders.
People are always trying to gain power, and no matter how much conditioning to believe in the system they get, many someones will try to, and eventually successfully, put themselves above everyone else.
Someone who has a superiority complex almost always has self worth issues. It's ironic yes but if we removed the self worth issues, the superiority complexes would probably go too. Also, what could be achieved by putting yourself in power that would be any better for you that the situation you are in now?
I don't think any amount of conditioning can change human nature.

We reep what we sow - and a seed only grows in favourable ground
Well I think that human nature is only how we have learn to behave due to our surroundings and that the personality is a defense mechanism to reality.
Human beings are built-in "intentionally" (not literally but metaphorically, in the same sense that dogs are 'designed' with big ears for better hearing) to have low self-worth to get them to strive for better. We're competitive creatures. You can label that a pathology all you want and try to cure it until the sun rises in the west, it ain't gonna change.
