There would never be any domestic violence... or any other sort of violence... if there were no guns.Didn't you know that?

Residents of North Gaza told to leave. For where? Where would they go to that would be safe?

Israel won't negotiate and thereby weakens moderate Palestinians. Israel continues to allow and/or encourage settlements in Palestine.

So the extremists in Israel, encourage the extremists in Hamas, who attack Israel, who attack Hamas, and in the meantime a bunch of innocent civilians are caught in the crossfire.

Too bad that the moderate Palestinians have no one to negotiate with.

Again, most gun deaths are the suicides you liberals support. Most of the rest are inner-city gangs killing each other, so if you are not suicidal, not a gang member, don't deal in drugs, and you are not a cop, your chances of being shot in America are near zero.

The gun 'crisis', like so many other 'emergencies', is liberal hogwash being used as an excuse to further limit the rights of We, the People. There is no gun crisis, and if you are as smart as you claim you are, then you damn know it.
That's bullshit and has always been bullshit. Unless you live in Chicago you are more likely to be shot by your lover or spouse or someone who knows you. Its the "lawful gun owner' who generally kills his wife and children in their beds....not gang members or criminals.
How many people a year are killed by a "lawful gun owner' who generally kills his wife and children in their beds"? I'll make it easier...what percentage of Americans will not be killed by the " 'lawful gun owner' who generally kills his wife and children in their beds"?
Show us the stats and prove that there's a 'crisis'!You run your big mouth all the time with wild accusations and hyperbole, but you never prove it.
Well, I don't want to be hyperbolic or anything:

SPRING, Texas – Six people were shot dead, including four children, Wednesday afternoon in north Harris County, according to Harris County Pct. 4 deputies.

The incident happened at a home in the 700 block of Leaflet in the Enchanted Oaks subdivision.

Deputies responded to a shooting and found the victims. The sole survivor, a 15-year-old female, told authorities the gunman was on his way to another home to kill more relatives. The deputies beat him to that home.

A three-hour long standoff took place in a cul-de-sac on Countrymeadows near Country Canyon. Neighbors were forced out of their homes as the situation unfolded.

“The sheriff’s hostage negotiators have successfully resolved this,” said Constable Ron Hickman. “He’s removed from the vehicle without incident.”

The victims were ages five to 40. Four children and two adults died. According to authorities, it was a domestic dispute between a man and his estranged wife.

Authorities did not release the victims' identities and did not say how they might be related to each other or the suspect.

“Our hearts go out to the families involved in this tragedy,” said Hickman.
Do 6 deaths out of a population of 330,000,000 represent a crisis? Let's see your 4 kids get shot dead by a guy in a "domestic dispute" (usually is a guy going after an 'estranged' wife and kids or anyone nearby; assorted relatives) and see if you call it a crisis.

It's exactly why I feel not the LEAST obligation to bray about any charitable actions or donations on my own behalf. What, rigon, you expect me to spend time in a pissing contest as to who makes the most donations or gives the most time? With someone I have not ONE way of comparing myself honestly to, since I know what I do, but have only your claims as to what you do?
No, not shamed by what we do...which imo as I've already said is not special but instead my pleasure and my obligation...but by what you don't do.  You'd rather pay your taxes and assume it is therefore someone else's problem. That's fine and your choice of course, but it makes you look sort of stupid when you accuse those who actually do of not caring or worse.
2146  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Don't Mess with Messiahs on: July 14, 2014, 06:35:06 PM
I guess we've arrive at the stage of the conversation where after leftists declare they "care about the children" coming here in droves with no provision for them now or in the future, they engage in a mob beat down of those who actually have charitable involvement with those same kids.

Meanwhile, their petulant messiah who cause the problem gets yet another pass on his blowing smoke up their ass by blaming this on the Repubs for not passing a bill which would do nothing to fix the situation.
lol. Sorry, I was quite happy to discuss the issue on the basis of what we as a society should do with these kids and how we should address the immigration issues we face.
You keep telling yourself that.  You pompous sanctimonious dimwits need to be knocked on your ass by the fact you are all full of crap.  You are every bit as selfish and greedy as the asshats in DC that you criticize and the main one whom you won't.
Well, that should certainly help your spleen, even though it accomplishes nothing else. lolol.

umair, from where I sit, your SIL  does the work. Where exactly do you get the credit from?
lol.  Not surprised that you would take that stance given that you are alone in the world but we own a business. We are a team   And I already mentioned that I took on getting a shipping container of supplies together over this summer to be sent, and it'll go hopefully within the next month.  My SIL blogged about the hospital, and I knew some people who I thought could help me so that's been my project lately. It took a lot of willing people to get it together, each of them southern though not all of them white, granted.  Wink
well, of course, we only have their own words as to the immense generosity they display...but understand there's a clear strategy behind their words. The idea is to suggest that charity can do the job, both in this instance and at home, so that government shouldn't ask them to pay taxes for these issues. But of course there's no guarantee that they either ARE contributing with the immense generosity they claim, what we have are people asking us to believe that their private charity is sufficient to accomplish our social goals, without a single evidence of proof of that generosity now or later.

It's a laughably lame attempt to get out of paying for this society's responsibilities, and is waaaaay too easily seen through for what it is: greed and lack of compassion for others.
To the contrary,  every one of you blowhards know what frauds you are and it makes you squirm to have it pointed out.  I mean really.  Just how insecure do you  have to be when the best you can do is mock someone for their charity or their business?

Pretty damn insecure.

Single payer health care. Improved primary education. Decriminalization of drugs. And the ability of foreign people to enter USA without having to apply for a visa.
So you support school choice and taking money out of the Union thugs hands and directing it to the students? Nice!Get Big Brother out of our Healthcare.Get Big Brother out of our Bodies.Get Big Brother out of our Wallets.
There is nothing inherently wrong with teacher's unions. Then what's the point of a union?
i think teachers unions (as well as all other public-sector trade unions) should effectively be turned into political action committees and serve the collective interests of their members that way.
2150  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Three Changes on: July 14, 2014, 05:30:41 PM
i disagree when we're talking about public schools. i'm not saying that public-sector trade unions shouldn't exist, but they should be castrated.

What I'm saying is that a national policy will help in two major ways - first, it will reduce availability (notice I said reduce, not eliminate) of black market guns by shutting down at least PART of the flow source by making unregistered sales illegal everywhere.
What's your source for making that claim?

It's called an opinion - and one based in sound logic. The problem you and I have is that you seem to think I'm calling this a magic bullet - which I'm not, and without a magic bullet, you're unwilling to consider ANY  measures.
I'm willing to consider any measure that is guaranteed to drastically cut down on crime without violating our right to keep and bear arms. If you can't guarantee that, then no, I will not support another useless law on top of the 29,000 already on the books.

I loved Rugrats growing up along with Pokemon and Dragonball Z (if anime counts). I really liked Codename: Kids Next Door, Hey Arnold, and Angry Beavers, too. Currently I watch Adventure Time with Finn and Jake and Regular Show pretty often. I don't think I could go on without cartoons in my life.

Registration should be voluntary. Then nobodies breakin the law.
Even if made law...it would be voluntary. Criminals will not register their weapons...only honest law abiding citizens will.
Exactly. You're only going to get an 80-90% participation rate anyway, then, while our law makers are busy writing up all this new legislation, they can add a part that says if you get caught committing a crime with an unregistered firearm your minimum prison sentence is 40 yrs without parole.
2158  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you own a firearm? on: July 14, 2014, 03:53:12 PM
Yes, I own firearms. I used to shoot competitively, in my youth.  I've always supported the right of American citizens to own firearms and still do. However, being a responsible gun owner, I feel obligated to support laws that make it harder for criminals and mentally ill people to get their hands on them. I also recognize that some places - some states and cities - have been reactionary in their approach, and always thinking that they have gun laws, but crime is still happening, they've instituted stricter and stricter laws that really only affect the law abiding. That's why I support a nationalized gun control policy.

Here in New Jersey, our laws (as written) require persons to submit to a background check (including being finger printed) to get a Firearms ID Card, with which they can purchase long guns and ammunition so long as they carry it. In addition, to purchase a handgun, an purchase permit is required. Within one calendar year of your most recent background check, the issuing authority (your local police chief or State Police Barracks Commander) may issue handgun purchase permits without requiring another check at his discretion. The law requires the process to be completed within 30 days of the permit request being submitted. If you are convicted of a crime, or are diagnosed by a licensed therapist as being a danger to yourself or others, your Firearms ID Card may be suspended or revoked, following a hearing.

I believe that this is a good model on which to base a national standard. In my proposed solution, this nationalized standard would replace ALL gun regulations in all 50 states, including those who have the overly restrictive statutes at this time, and would prohibit states and municipalities from passing further restrictions other than that which would apply in state or municipal buildings.
Are you telling us then, that your criminals are unarmed? That a criminal can't get a gun in New Jersey? If not, then what's the point of burdening honest citizens with all that bullshit?Registration should be voluntary. Then nobodies breakin the law.

I have been practicing Volleyball each week, swimming each morning and dancing semi professional for a very long time, and I loved it. But now I did calm down as I hurt myself greatly and couldn't get back to sports instantly. Other circumstances got me to slow it down even more. Now there is only a bit of time left for it.

The 'firearms' have fed my family, provided hours of targeted entertainment and provided relief for  suffering varmits.

Self-righteous buffoons who advocate a) hunger over hunting  b) video game entertainment c) pain and suffering of wild critters
should be air-dropped into Flint or Detroit to sing Kumbayah.
