So... did Cryptsy drop Devcoins?  I'm not finding them listed there.  I've never had an account there.  Is Vircurex really going to be the only place to buy/sell DVCs now?
1682  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: October 10, 2013, 02:30:29 AM
I think the new exchange mcxnow.com offers a bright future for Devcoin... it recently has and an injection of liquidity that is looking for a place to stay other than bitcoin. We know that when whales come in they would rather actively invest by trading. There are a handful of coins on there which are traded and dvc has benefited from the increased volume by hitting up to 100 satoishi recently! The volume was over 100 million dvc a few days in a row. We havent seen that on vircurex forever! Anyways I've been hearing from the chat mods and other users on the site that they are looking to replace devcoin with namecoin and we should all let our voices be heard if that is true. I really think that the exchange offers the light for dvc and we should try to fight to keep it alive. With it growing so fast I wouldn't be surprised if its labelled as 'the alt coin marketplace' and with big money coming in from stock exchanges (equity) I would see a big future for any alts on there.

His email is mcxnow.exchange@gmail.com I believe that is realsolid's email.

RS (the owner of mcxnow) has stated that DVC is already in the process of being removed. He just wants to "transition it out" and is dropping it soon. I think we're a bit too far for saving it at this point, although if DVC gains momentum in the future it's a possibility.

That really STINKS!

EDIT:  Right now there are 11,092 accounts, which means that the number of users who are on the site to buy or sell Devcoins could be a significant percentage of that.  There probably is no better time to reach out to RS and tell him why you're there.  Even those who don't have an account can reach out.  If what Jag says is correct about mcxNOW being a significant reason for the recent increase in value in DVC, then that benefit has been felt by non account holders too.
1683  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: October 10, 2013, 02:29:06 AM
I sent off a note to RS about this.  I've noticed people trashing Devcoins in the chat window but I guess I never saw anything that indicated they might actually take it off the platform.  And lately there's been a lot of movement in Devcoin, so I suspect they might already be rethinking this idea, if it ever was a serious one.  I don't see why they can't just add Namecoin without removing anything else anyway.  But it can definitely not hurt to write in and say that we love having Devcoins there Smiley

1684  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Devtome Amazon Associate on: October 10, 2013, 02:09:04 AM
Thank you very much! Smiley

This is truly AWESOME news because I live in a state that is not supported by the Amazon affiliate program, as in I can't be an affiliate on my own.  I went ahead and submitted my user ID.

Thanks, the more writers sign up, the more stuff we'll sell, which gives us a higher commission percentage.

Quote
I have a question about it.  Amazon allows you to link to specific products or specific types of products.  So for example, if I was writing a book review on my blog, I could also include a link to that specific book in the post.  I would like to know if this could become possible in this system, where there is a way that I could submit an amazon page I want to promote and then have someone create a unique affiliate link to that page for me.  At this point it sounds like it would be a lot of work for someone, or it would require allowing all of us to log into the account, neither of which seems like a good idea.

You don't have to log into an Amazon account to make a link. The Amazon admin logs into the devtome account to get a tag for whoever lists one on the Amazon page:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devtome_amazon_associate

The tracking id is devtome-your_name-20. You use your tag in your link, as described at:
https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/help/t5/a16

The format is amazon home page link, "/dp/", Amazon Standard Item Number (ASIN), "/?tag=", tracking ID, and link text. For books the ASIN is the same as the 10 digit International Standard Book Number (ISBN). For example, for the Great Gatsby, the ASIN (0743273567) is in the link:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/0743273567

and it is also listed on the page:
ISBN-10: 0743273567

for wiser, the wiki format link would be:
[http://www.amazon.com/dp/0743273567/?tag=devtome-wiser-20 Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald]

To link to another book, paste the 10 digit ISBN of the other book into the ISBN part of the link address and change the link text.

We've been trying to get high paying banner advertising for devtome for the last few months, but the six fiat networks contacted, including adsense, were not interested in devtome. I guess that they want either a really popular website, or a small website that is on one topic. We do have bitcoin banner ads, but they pay very little. We'll reapply to fiat networks in a few months when devtome is more popular.

However, we did get accepted to the Amazon Associate program, and all devtome writers should get a tracking ID by listing their name on the devtome Amazon Associate page:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devtome_amazon_associate

Any sales from the tracking ID will be converted to devcoins and sent to the writer. Besides making affiliate links on devtome, writers can also use the tracking ID on their own website or blog, and those sales will also be converted to devcoins and sent to them. You can use the links in text, and/or image links. The affiliate revenue will be small per month, but it's ongoing, you can collect it forever. If someone uses their tracking ID in spam or something scammy they'll be dropped from the devtome Amazon Associates list.

Eventually having Amazon links in devtome text will also count to the earnings multiplier, with a low weighting of probably around 20%.
1686  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [Ann] Bitcoinera.net Bitcoin Wallet 6% monthly interest + 2% from referrals on: October 02, 2013, 02:24:24 PM

For compound interest you take the month interest rate and power it by 12.

So 1.08 ^ 12 = 251% APR

And my bank only gives me 0.5%  Sad

So you're saying it's even more of a scam than I gave it credit for.  I remember studying compound interest in high school math classes, but that was a while ago.  I really should brush up...

TradeFortress, since you're on this thread I am intrigued by something.  With CL, I know the basis is loans to people.  Who takes out loans at 22 percent interest or more, that CL can offer that back to people with accounts as fee rebates?  That's comparable to carrying a balance on a credit card, and I can see paying it when for whatever reason you don't pay off your balance, but who would take out a loan with that interest rate deliberately?  In other words, how are you able to offer your good return?
1687  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [Ann] Bitcoinera.net Bitcoin Wallet 6% monthly interest + 2% from referrals on: October 02, 2013, 05:29:01 AM
Tradefortress is an ###... he should wait before he starts throwing around scam accusations... There should be an accusation for his sorry ###.

Hey, even I called that one--didn't even need to consult TF.  Do the math.  Six percent monthly return means 72% annual return.  And that's not counting all the extra bonuses from affiliate referrals.  Who pays out that kind of "interest" rate?  If they're seriously making that much money off of their "investing" then what do they need to pay us for?

I will say that I am making some money off them.  They're running a slick marketing campaign on BitVisitor and CoinAd and I'm more than happy to collect earnings from viewing their site.  But I'll invest those earnings somewhere else, thank you.

Be careful out there.  Watch out for scams!

Scam.  They all start looking the same after a while.  If you have not been burned yet, please learn from my mistake.  If you have been burned please learn from your own mistakes so it only happens once.

Yup, Mining United all over again.  Since you got burned once, why are you doing this again?

It's Mining United all over again!

Well, pretty much missed out on this round, but it's good to be back!  Cheesy

Actually, round 28 doesn't close until block 109,300 so you have another week or so.  But, round 26 just finished paying out and now round 27 has begun paying out.  That transition took place at 108,000.  I know it's confusing, but it will make sense soon enough.  You do have another week or so to take a shot at getting paid out in round 28 Smiley

Great news!! Well, not about everyone getting deleted. Cheesy Hopefully we can start getting back in.

It will happen.  Thanks everyone in advance for your patience as we work through this part.  So nice to have an update Smiley

I'm also not sure where you guys are getting $70 or even $50 per ounce

The silver is $37 per ounce and that includes shipping...coinpayments updates automatically to the market price, it's not like I have anything to do with it. Like I said, it's all percentages and it's a constant. That doesn't change

http://www.igotspots.com/walkingliberty.html

Nowhere does it say $50 or $70...

I was using the price that Notabot said he paid for an ounce times the price of Devcoins which this morning was 40 sat, then multiplying that by the Mt. Gox price for Bitcoin (which I know is higher than it should be).  In my estimation, I still thought it was a good deal, even at $50, but if my math was wrong, then definitely set the record straight Smiley

You have my kudos for offering silver for Devcoins.  I hope you get lots and lots of business, and that this works out really well for you Smiley
1695  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: October 01, 2013, 06:10:34 PM
1. I have dealt in measurements

2. I know I will have to mark it up (compared to what I pay), but it will not be 2x + The regular price at the time.

3. I don't feel like reading a block of text where the beginning had 2 such unfounded arguments.

Good luck Smiley

That's too much. I plan on opening a silver shop that can guarantee purity, and it won't cost $70 an oz. I'd just wait for that, or team up with me.

Fin, have you ever sold silver before?  If you deal in physical silver, there's no way around marking it up, because you have to consider your replacement cost, and some profit for you.  You're already dealing with a very volatile market (silver spot price can fluctuate wildly) which makes it risky to keep any inventory on hand.  When you add taking Devcoins for it, then you're adding another fluctuating market (which at this point trends downward) on top of that.  So unless you want to sell at a loss, you are going to have to either sell in bulk (thousands of ounces a day), or you have to mark up over spot price substantially.  And after all that you will run into customers who want to insist that you give it away for a buck or two over spot, and once you try to sell it, you learn very quickly why that is not reasonable unless that customer is willing to buy 1000 ounces at once, and even then, only if you have a supplier who is willing to sell to you at 75c over spot.

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing, just playing devil's advocate. I too have begun offering items for sale via DVC and I too would cash some out if I needed to. Any more places to spend DVC are good, I just don't want anyone to waste their efforts laboring under the false pretenses.

Until the circle closes, where everyone with Devcoins has a place to spend them, and probably for some time after that, there will be holes where people have to trade out Devcoins, and people have to hedge against their potential losses.  I think it works best in the long run if people buy things based on wanting what's for sale rather than out of altruism, although I might bend that with the silver--it's really not that much of a markup when you consider all the things that go into selling silver--and as one who has sold silver and who isn't prepared to offer it for Devcoins at this point (too much risk and I'm too small), I appreciate that this dealer offering it for Devcoins is taking a big risk, and I do think in this case it's worth paying a bit more for my silver to help make it pay off for him.  I'd very much like to see him offering silver for Devcoins next month too.  He said October was a trial period.
1697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: October 01, 2013, 03:13:40 PM
You have to start somewhere.  Of course he's going to trade out his Devcoins... until someone else opens up a shop with a product or service he would want to spend them on.  Why don't you call him up and ask him what he would like to buy with his Devcoins?

Too bad buying from iGotSpots isn't a hedge against dumping--what do you think he's going to do with those DVC? Keep them because he 'cares' about the cause? Wrong. He's going to dump them on Cryptsy or Vircurex and take his BTC from them because he's got to pay the bills.

His metals for crypto business is great on the surface--if you feel like paying more than market value for little bits of metals. As a hedge against DVC (or any other coins) its not sustainable, as he raises and lowers the price (and market padding) daily depending on what he can trade out the coins for. Just food for thought...
1698  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: October 01, 2013, 12:59:40 PM
That works out to $50 an ounce going by mcxNOW last price of 40 sat/DVC and Mt. Gox's price of $145/BTC.  That is a little high, but actually well within the range of what I'd call acceptable.  If I were writing in exchange for silver I would be happy to take it at a rate of $50 per ounce (you always mark it up for bartering purposes), and if you're writing for Devtome, that's essentially what you'd be doing if you then spent your DVC on this silver.

Also consider that Mt. Gox prices are inflated so in reality it's probably less than $50/ounce.  I deliberately used Mt. Gox in the calculation so I'd get a sense of "worst case scenario."

The price includes shipping, which means that in all likelihood if you bought 2 or more ounces, shipping wouldn't change much so you'd come out even further ahead if you bought up to 10 or more ounces.

Sounds like a great deal Smiley

I just bought a one ounce silver eagle with devcoins from http://www.igotspots.com/silver.html

It cost me 883,000 dvc with shipping. When I got into devcoin that amount of dvc would have bought me 7 ounces of silver. Now that there's a real world market for devcoins would not one be better off buying material goods than dumping them for some minute fraction of a bitcoin?

How did I get that many devcoins? ...well I didn't dump them lol.

Coin Payments should be congratulated on his check out solution for altcoins.

We now have Amazon Devcoin Cards, Amazonia Imports - Pipes & Palo Santo, and I Got Spots Silver & Gold accepting devcoins.

All the vendors below also use Coin Payments as a payment processor. If you are interested in their products or services why not contact them and ask if they will accept devcoins?  ....That's how I got the silver. They all are set up to accept devcoins if they choose, and two new stores have been added just over this last weekend.

At my store, Amazonia Imports - Pipes & Palo Santo, all proceeds of sales will go to purchases at other devcoin accepting stores. That is how a market place forms and I urge you all to check out the stores participating in Coin Payments

Also I intend to buy an ounce of silver per month to track the devcoin to silver ratio.
