Both teams are fighting hard for 2 extra points. We are up for a thriller finish.

I have to say mighty impressed with this 20 yo kid Dunith Wellalage. First with the ball and now with the bat, he's already looking experienced against spin. The way he's facing Bumrah is commendable as well. He's showing some character so props to him.

Lankans spin the shit out of India today. At one point Indian openers were feasting but ah after 11 overs all went down the drain.

There was one partnership building up between Kishan and Rahul but they also fell to spin, So far Spin has taken all 9 wickets and Indian spinners must be licking their lips as well. Having said that Indians are still short of 15-ish more runs, as far as competitive score is concerned.  Maybe some cameo from Axar could change the balance? We still have 3 overs left, he still needs to farm strike tho.

That's what a good spinner does to you when he gets some assistance from the pitch.

Indian openers were looking comfortable and then came a 20 year old left arm Dunith Wellalage and picked up 3 big wickets. Sri Lankans are back in the game and they should put more pressure on the new batters. If this pitch keeps assisting spinners then Axar, Jaddu and Kuldeep are going to create a lot of problems for Lankans.

The more we waited for this match, the more boring it become.Once time match had to be stopped  due to rain and secondly their batting was very disturbing due to which this match because boring as much as it interesting. In this Asia Cup, Pakistan was going in full form but whenever Pakistan and India are in match-ups, Pakistan lose their senses due to which they have to face defeat.it can only be hoped that these two teams will meet again in the final.

LOL.. perhaps this was the reason why Jay Shah came up with this tweet:

https://twitter.com/JayShah/status/1701299080100716572

Quote
Today’s #INDvsPAK has clocked 2.8 Crore concurrent users on @DisneyPlusHS - the highest for any India match in the history of digital. The previous best was #INDvsNZ 2019 @cricketworldcup semifinal with 2.52 Crore concurrent users 🇮🇳 #AsiaCup

I am not sure whether Hotstar will be too happy with the way things turned out. Match got stretched over two days, and there were multiple rain interruptions. Although in terms of concurrent users Jay Shah can claim that the viewership was not impacted, but a lot of these viewers dropped out as a result of breaks. It was a great match yesterday, but could have been a much better experience for the viewers.
Another shitty talking point was ticket pricing in Ind vs Pak match.

Did you notice empty stands? One could argue that it happened due to rain but that wasn't the case. 70-80% of tickets went unsold only because of high ticket pricing, Before the match lowest price was $50 bucks and as soon as the match started it went to the usual price of $5. PCB had control over ticket prices as they are the host.

The history part is very precise and to the point. About the opposition I am sure BJP is doing this to taunt I.N.D.I.A. The name game is just a political instrument taken by the BJP to prepare for the upcoming elections. I still think there shouldn't be any issue if Bharat becomes the official name of India. Many countries have done it in the past and we can also do it.

They don't need to change anything as both names are mentioned in the constitution and can be used interchangeably. Bringing any amendment only because of a name change is not a good optic and a big waste of time. All they have to do is use the word "Bharat" regularly, officially or unofficially that's it.

I am waiting for an upcoming special session and expecting some juicy stuff from Mota bhai. Maybe UCC? Idk but how will everyone react if it's about freeing temples from the government's control? Pipe dream atm but seriously that would be something.

Tough to believe that India destroyed Pakistan by 200+ runs. Remaining 2 Pakistan batsmen were absent hurt, but they probably would have scored in single digits just like the players before them.

India are the clear favorites to win the Asia Cup now. Bumrah-Kuldeep combo is epic while Rahul continues rocking in the ODI format.
This defeat might turn into a blessing in disguise for Pakistan if they manage to sort things out with their spin department and not rely on pace battery all the time.

Indians have to play another match within the next 12 hours so hope their bodies are recovering well, fair amount of test players in the current ODI setup so one would hope that it's alright.
1167  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket Asia Cup 2023! Which team will WIN? on: September 11, 2023, 06:44:38 PM
So far India has ticked almost every box in this weird match.

Openers did their job nicely and deserve a fair share of credit as they kept the Pakistani pacer in check. Koach is koach, he did what he does best. KL Rahul was equally good, considering he was coming back from the surgery, his numbers in the middle order are good and i really hope he continues this form for the next 4-5 months xD.

Bumrah was amazing but he needs to careful with his recovery, he's too valuable. Miyan also looks good, if Pandaya keeps bowling like that then it's a big plus for India. Shardul doing well so far but the biggest talking point is Kuldeep, he's on a different level when he's high on confidence.

For Pakistan, it wasn't their day at all. They need to do some thinking about what if their seamers fail to perform and it happens with everyone in any long tournaments so their spinners need to take responsibility in the middle overs, otherwise it won't be good for the team as the opposition will put extra runs on the scoreboard.
1168  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket Asia Cup 2023! Which team will WIN? on: September 11, 2023, 02:02:25 PM
So far in this edition of the Asia Cup India and Pakistan faced each other twice and the former group batted first both times.

1st match - 48.5 overs
2nd match - 24.1 overs

And Pakistan has yet to bat, that's what we used to see in gully cricket. Balla mera hai toh batting sirf main hi karunga.  Grin

This is so true in South Asia. But today Pakistan are definitely not looking to bat rather they must be happy with rain. Just 2 wickets down and India scoring with 6 Runs per over in 25 overs. Defiantly they will be looking to give a target over 300 runs today. The batting that collapsed in first match is very much stable today.
After bowling 98.5 overs Pakistan finally got the batting so that's a positive, although rain could ruin the fun. We would be lucky if the Indians ball 50 overs tonight. DRS might decide the results if it happens.

KL Rahul proving his worth in the middle order, again but i reckon his inning was overshadowed by Kohli. The way Koach accelerated his inning after his 50 was amazing.
1169  Local / India / Re: India or Bharat on: September 10, 2023, 04:47:41 PM
My political reading.

IMO, It's just a political gimmick but if I am being honest then the opposition forced the current government to use "Bharat" instead of "INDIA" when the opposition opted for the India acronym for their alliance, which was an excellent move but double edge sword as well.

BJP is an election beast, they even take gram panchayat elections very seriously, like it's a matter of life and death. So no wonder they played a "Bharat" card beautifully and they are not breaking any rule at all.

My personal experience.

I've spent a fair amount of time working in SEA and okayish times traveling the Middle East and in my experience, if we ignore the English speaking locals then you will hear the sound of Indo, Indu, Ando, Hindostan, Hind and Turtsu (another ancient Indian name) which became Tianzhu/Tinzhu-Tinju (heaven) in China/japan instead of India regularly. We only got here because Persian didn't know how to pronounce "SaptaSindhu" which became "Haptahindu", then a shorter version "Hind /hindu)and Greek made into "indu". As far as local Indian languages go Bharat, Bharto, Bharoto, Barat, Bharatvarsha, Bharta, Bharata desham, Bharatam, Bharatu, Hindustan etc are quite common.

Indian or Bharata history is freaking rich af, you don't need wine to get high. There is a reason all indic religions are referred to as Sanathana, just dig in and embrace it.

KL Rahul walks into the Playing XI without any fuss and an excuse is Iyer is struggling with back spasms Grin. The dude surely has everyone's controversial pictures, including selectors, Dravid, Rohit and even Kohli.  Grin Grin

Having said that, he's batting in the middle order so it should be fine as he did perform quite well there, fingers crossed lol.

Glad to see that Australia finally gave a place in the team for Marnus Labuschagne in the ODI team and he scored another match changing century along with David Warner and a century from Warner proved that he will be a fixture till the World Cup. South African bowlers we taken apart as the target for them is 392 and this is going to be another huge loss for them before the World Cup.
Thanks for the concussion substitute rule. His performance will give a headache to the selectors.

Their batting was flawless but the big talking point should be their bowling card. There were no Starc, Cummins and Hazelwood in the playing XI.  Nathan Ellis, Sean Abbott and Aaron Hardie all are new, it tells us about their domestic setup.

Kinda surprised to see Litton Das batting tonight as he was missing from the squad, maybe injured? IDK. More surprising he was batting at the middle order.

Anyway, Bongs seems to lose the plot tonight and if i dare to say potentially a direct flight to Dhaka. Guess, a fair amount of fans were expecting the same.

1174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: September 09, 2023, 01:31:54 PM
Have to give the credit to Marnus Labuschagne. This guy entered into Test cricket as a concussion replacement for Smith and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

In the ODI, he didn't fire up much and due to this reason he wasn't regular in the ODI setup but here he comes again as a concussion substitute and won the last match and today also proving his worth.

The partnership between David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne has so far added 138 runs at 7.5 runs per over. Anrich Nortje went for almost 12 per over. Don't know what is going on with the South African bowlers. Quality pacers like Nortje and Rabada are getting hammered all around the park. And also don't forget the fact that this is a home series for South Africa. Looking at the form of the Australian batsmen, I would say that they will be the favorites to lift the trophy during ODI World Cup in 2023, followed at some distance by Pakistan.
It's a white ball cricket and the deck is flat so i won't blame bowlers much.

We can only blame them for, not balling enough hard length balls to Aussie but it happens in white ball cricket. The pitch does look a bit favorable to spinners but again you need quality spin bowlers for some success. For me, England and Australia are fav because they have almost all the ingredients and their batting looks scary.

The selling point for the Asia Cup is the matches between India and Pakistan and therefore, they have made decisions, only for this match.
Well, to be honest, that's the reason why the Asia Cup exists atm. However, it seems to have turned into a bilateral series between India and Pakistan, with a guaranteed minimum of two matches and possibly a final as well. The group system also gives us an idea of how broadcasters are dictating their terms, but we can't really blame them either since they are paying millions of dollars for the rights.

--------------------
Guess, Australia forgot that it's an ODI series. So far they are treating this as a T-20 match and ofc not taking no prisoners.

I don't have a problem with reserve days. In general, i support such a move but favoring only 1 match because it has more financial weightage than other matches, even the final. Not a good look IMO.
Yeah. This is all usual stuff though and viewers will just forget about it as time passes while the ACC will rake in the big bucks laughing their way to the bank. Am not expecting any of this change anytime soon.
Look at this drama, shots are fired by the Bangladesh coach and BCB already is in damage control mode.

BCB's statement clearly indicates that it was for financial reasons, which wasn't rocket science and every stakeholder compromised because of their share of the pie.

Reserve days are fine if it's happening for all remaining matches, atm it's too distasteful and tbh i won't feel bad even, if reserve day faces a washout.
Your points are all valid and I agree with everything except for the reserve day getting washed out which would imply next level bad luck.

It's like ACC led by Jay Shah treating Srilanka and Bangladesh as an illegitimate children. Normally PCB does tons of drama but they seem to be on board with the decision because it suits them.

The way i see it, it looks like extremely discriminating behavior.

They are basically saying to the rest of the Super 4 qualifiers (SL and Ban) to fuck off and we don't care about you as it's all about India and Pakistan. Just because this particular encounter bring food to the table, it doesn't mean that ACC has to act like this.
It's all about money at the end of the day. Cricket is just business for them which is why this is a smart move financially even if it ends up ticking off some fans in the wrong way.

Personally, I'm just happy that the upcoming India vs Pak encounter has a reserve day after the washout disaster last time around.
The financial point is understandable but in such a situation, you don't have to be so obvious that other teams feel left out and start feeling that their existence in the Asia Cup is completely irrelevant.

Read some weird news about the Asia Cup remaining matches (Super 4 group).

Pakistan vs India match has a reserve day now, in case the Sunday fixture witnesses another washout. The weird part is it's the only match to get reserve day not every Super 4 fixture, not even final.

They could have just shifted the matches to Hambantota or Dambulla. Hosting this tournament in Sri Lanka, and that too at peak monsoon season was a big mistake. And having no reserve days is even bigger mistake. Good that they added reserve day for the India vs Pakistan match. But even from the beginning, there was not much hype regarding this match. And if there is rain interruption, then the crowd response would be even more lukewarm. One thing is for sure. The TV and OTT rights holders are not going to be happy about all this drama.
