What's happening with Indian fielding nowadays? Quite surprising tbh as fielding was one of the departments they've improved a lot in recent times but out of nowhere they are looking like headless chickens on the field, dropping, missing catch opportunities regularly and even misfielding are very common.

Guess Proteas has enough runs on the board.

2042  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: October 06, 2022, 07:34:22 AM
Women Cricketers from Thailand did it again! This time they beat the Pakistan Women's team in a close encounter.

They are making a statement to ICC that the ruling of the last World cup on the qualification process was a big mockery in cricket.
2043  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: October 06, 2022, 06:11:36 AM
The first ODI will be played tomorrow. In total 3 ODI's will be played between these two teams. All three would be day and night matches. After defeating South Africa for the first time in T20 series in India, I am sure the men in blue would be trying to do the same in this ODI series. The Indian side will have a lot of new talents and it would be interesting to watch them.
India is not taking this ODI series seriously and you can understand that with the team that is announced for the series. All the main players are preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup and even the coach will be flying to Australia while a second string India will be facing South Africa but on the other hand it is an important series for South Africa as they will be looking to get league points for the ODI World Cup.
Because they are not worried about qualification due to hosting rights, which ensure automatic entry to the host nation, then there is WC. This bilateral tour was just a practice series and a kind of a waste of time, even Ind vs Aus series too. Tbh I really don't understand, they know WC is in Australia and for some weird reason Australian team visiting India for random T-20 series.

And Proteas only have themselves to blame for being in a such tricky situation, they canceled the ODI series against Australia to facilitate their domestic league.
2044  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket WC Pool Discussion on: October 06, 2022, 05:44:20 AM
Count me in. It does not matter how much is the entry fee.

I also feel that running a pool without at least 10-12 participants is boring. So far it looks like for this WC, interest is not so great. Nowadays most of the regular users are not active in cricketing threads and I hardly see them there, let's see.
Sorry I was not available from last few months. A lot has changed which effected the spending time on the forum too. But it seems things are getting back to normal and I am hoping to get active again. I have no idea when the WC is starting LOL but anyway I am sure we will be able to make a decent numbers to join in the pool.

Let me know if I can help with anything.
Welcome back and can understand that so no worries.

It's starting from Oct 16 (10 days window). Well, I would request you to take charge of Escrow's responsibility again.

I also feel that running a pool without at least 10-12 participants is boring. So far it looks like for this WC, interest is not so great. Nowadays most of the regular users are not active in cricketing threads and I hardly see them there, let's see.
I guess there are at least 10-12 participants who are interested in participating in this WC pool based on what I observed. More participants could join later on since there are around 10 days left for the tournament to start.

Whether we get a sponsor or not, I really do hope that this pool starts without any issues since I really enjoy them.
I count 8 participants in this thread so far. Little Mouse, Haunebu, eaLiTy, Vaskiy, Mahdirakib, RapTarX, Royse777, JSRAW.

these guys are missing @Pffrt @akhjob @Maidak @Swordsoffreedom @teosanru @7788bitcoin. I'll send msz to them once I create the main thread.

Guys, should we lock the entry fees to 0.0014 BTC (around 28-ish bucks)?

^^^ Different people have different opinion. For example, I never considered Archer to be in the same league as that of McGrath and Donald. Starc +Cummins +Hazelwood can never achieve the same success as McGrath+Lee+Gillespie. Similarly, I will never consider Shaheen Shah Afridi as equal to Shoaib Akhtar or Waqar Younis. And never ever I would compare Lyon with someone like Warne or Muralitharan. I admit that I may be having some personal bias. I hardly ever watch test cricket nowadays.
Jofra Archer has just played 13 test matches so I don't think there is any comparison necessary with the likes of McGrath or Donald.

But fair enough as we both agree on "Personal Bias". My point wasn't about comparison anyway, I was merely pointing out that we have enough memorable tests/series in recent times too. For example fans (at least Indian and Aussie) will talk about recent BGT even after a couple of decades.
2046  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket WC Pool Discussion on: October 05, 2022, 05:31:10 PM
Thank you JSRAW for the mention. I have been going through a busy schedule IRL, hence, couldn't be online for the last few weeks; months indeed. I'll join the pool only if I see a good number of participants out there. It doesn't make any sense to run a pool with a few participants; both the pool size & the competition. You aren't likely to have much entertainment if the number of participants is very low.
No worries.

Lol Windies lost the match despite Australians throwing the towel multiple times.

Some brain fade cricket from the windies in the last over, 2 drop catches and that too regular ones against both strikers lol

2048  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: October 05, 2022, 08:52:39 AM

I don't agree with this. Most of the teams still play 8 to 12 test matches per year, which translates to 40 to 60 days of test cricket. Much less amount of time is devoted for T20 cricket (if we count only international cricket and not the franchise leagues). IMO, there is no point for a team in playing more than 3-4 test matches, given the popularity of this specific format and the revenue it bring. In case they have separate teams for different formats, the this issue doesn't arise. But that is not the case now.

@Sithara007 the ODI format can be revamped by changing the existing rules for power play, and by arranging more Night ODI matches. Lastly in my personal opinion the ODI is a lucrative format that ICC will continue, but it needs more changes otherwise people will soon lose interest in this format too, thus it’ll be interesting to see what kind of changes does ICC implement for the ODI format.
The current powerplay system isn't very bad tho.

Day/Night matches are also doing okay. Maybe it would be good if they come to some sort of consensus on boundaries, like minimum 75 meter boundaries (which should be implemented in T-20 too).

After all, no one remembers T-20 performance for long but people remember and talk about Test performance even after decades.

That is no longer the case. The vast majority of the test matches now are boring and hardly anyone follows them. I still remember about matches those were played two decades earlier. Back then there were legendary players such as Glenn McGrath, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shaun Pollock, Dale Steyn, Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid and Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Those times are long gone. There are no comparable players right now in test cricket. People talk about test cricket even after decades, because back then the matches were of very high quality. I don't expect anyone to remember players such as Nathan Lyon or Kagiso Rabada two decades from now.
- Archer's knocking out Smith with a bouncer and then his concussion substitute Marnus takes the test cricket by storm.
- Ben Stokes-Leach last wicket partnership, Tim Paine's captaincy, LBW decision, Nathon Lyon's brain fade moment by missing the run out chance at Headingley.
- Trio of Starc +Cummins +Hazelwood wreaking havoc in Indian camp at Adelaide, 36 all out.
- 2 injured batters battling against the same trio for more than 40 overs to save the test at Sydney. Hanuma Vihari (Batting on 1 leg due to hamstring injury) and Ashwin (Struggling with back spasm)
- Gabba - Australia with 1033 wickets in the Playing XI and in contrast India with just 13 wickets. So many debutants, 2 new guys Thakur and Sundar (21 yo kid) saving the team in 1st inning, and in the second inning another kid Shubham Gill smashing Starc all over the ground for fun and 1 Thick boy Rishabh Pant was on another level. Everything is about this test is mind-boggling, I still wonder how did Aussie manage to lose the test match.

- Then we have Bongs winning the test in NZ.
- SL whitewashing the SA in their own backyard.

The point is there are many memorable series and moments in just last 5 years. Rabada still has a long career and FYI he already has a better record than ATG Wasim Akram, be it SR or Average but if you think that no one will remember Rabada once he finishes his career then OK because every generation has its bias. Lyon is a tricky one but IMO he's 2nd best off-spinner in this decade, after Ashwin. The problem is that off-spinners are at bottom of the food chain and that's why everyone writes them off.
2051  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: October 04, 2022, 04:04:12 PM
Deepak is not the bowler whom as a team you should have in any tournament. This Gus is nuts! He continues to bowl those balls which eventually would either get a Noball or a Wide. You need intelligent or cunning bowlers in the last over.
Deepak Chahar bowled really well and was hitting the right spot in his first 3 overs but he lost the plot when he bowled his last over. first a beamer that went for six and then his line and length was poor as David Miller scored 3 consecutive sixes after that.

The last time MD. Shiraz played in a T20 match was in February this year and today he was simply dominating the batter. I would simply say it is a good comeback. I don't know whether India will win this match but I know one thing, this Indian side with everyone playing would be difficult to ignore.
The pitch is good to score runs but Rohit Sharma is gone for zero and it is a difficult task if they loose wickets like this, but it will be interesting how Rishabh Pant will perform in this match as i do not think he should be in the team in T20.
Today death bowling wasn't that bad if we leave those last balls of the 20th over. I felt the Indian bowler did well in 17th 18th 19th over.

It's a very small ground and considered a graveyard for bowlers so it's fine. Although fielding was a big letdown this evening.

Edit

Proteas fielding doing more damage here.
2052  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: October 04, 2022, 08:59:56 AM
Test cricket would never die. There is a seperate fan base for test cricket but to maintain it the ICC needs to fix more test matches every year. There are many here who might not watch the full game but would certainly watch the highlights or might be following the match.

Yes.. there is a separate fan base for test cricket. But the numbers are too small when compared to T20 or ODI cricket. I don't have an issue if test cricket remains in its place. But right now, it is overlapping with other formats. For example, a majority of the players who are included in the test squad are part of the T20 squad as well (I am talking about teams such as India). And these players spend more time playing test cricket compared to any other format.

Let's take the example of Virat Kohli. Last year, he played a total of 11 test matches (55 days), 3 ODI matches and 10 T20I matches. How can you justify a player like Virat spending 55 days on test cricket and just 13 days on limited overs cricket? Another example is that of Rohit Sharma. In his case, he played a total of 11 test matches in 2021, compared to 3 ODI and 11 T20I matches. 55 days of test cricket versus 14 days of limited overs. Does this make any sense?
You are looking at this from a completely different (IMO wrong) point of view.

This system or call it rotation policy is designed for the exact same reason that the premier player feature in Bilateral Test cricket and takes a rest from the useless Bilateral LOI series. It simply reflects the priorities of boards and players.

After all, no one remembers T-20 performance for long but people remember and talk about Test performance even after decades.

@Sithara007 ICC did try a attempt with the test championship, but honestly it feels like it flopped because the concept is too confusing. Furthermore ICC needs to move on from day tests to night tests, because those are more appreciated by the fans but even then the demand for test cricket is fading away and maybe ICC will decide in coming year’s to end this format and focus more on T20 matches which fans just can’t get enough of.
Test Championship is just 1 season old so it would take time to mature, recent settings are not perfect but it's something that offers some sort of relevance due to the point table.
2053  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: October 04, 2022, 07:06:53 AM
Third and last T20I match between India and South Africa will be played today, at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. The news from Indian camp is that they are going to rest both Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. And for India, this is the last T20 match before the world cup starts on 16th October. India is placed in Group1, along with South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh. They will be looking for a better performance this time, after the debacle they had last time (they failed to advance to the knockout stage in 2021).
Although this is a dead rubber but I really don't like experimenting and resting main players at this stage, maybe management is worried about unwanted injuries and doesn't want to take any risk.

Btw this is the first T-20 bilateral series win for India against South Africa at home so 3-0 would be nice.
2054  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: October 03, 2022, 01:16:28 PM
~snip~.
My question honestly is that what sort of pitch this was prepared in Guwahati, a total of more than 450 runs scored in just 40 overs,  it was not that both the sides bowled very bad but I don't know why almost all the balls looked half volley and so easy on bat for everyone. But yes this was a net practice session for a lot of batsmen today. South Africa coule have even won this if Miller would have accelerated a couple of overs before. Obviously south African bowlers are equally to be blamed.
It was obviously a batting pitch but in no way supposed to be a feast for the batters. It showed something for the bowlers in the 2nd inning.

Indian bowlers did an excellent job in the first 10 overs and they were dominating in power play. Okay in the next 5 overs but lost the track in the last final overs, on the other hand, Proteas bowlers were just horrible.

South Africans didn't bowl much half volley tho they were much worse with their full tosses. Also with the new kind of batting technique in T-20, batsmen now started using their crease very effectively, which helps batsmen to make even good lengths into half volley and sometimes yorkers too (with deep crease and back hand punch).

IMO Buvama's 7 ball duck and De Cock slow start was the main reason. The winning margin wasn't t big but they were never in control despite Miller's effort. They were just playing catch up throughout their chase.

Guys if anyone is interested in the WC pool then plz feel free to drop suggestions about entry fees in the discussion thread.

If we look at overall pool history then I believe the majority of punters (almost 10-14) are okay with $30 as entry fees. If you think we need some change in the entry fees then please drop your suggestions here.

If 10 people participate, that would be 300$ pool money, and the sponsors, if any, then it would be even more.

My question is that there are how many winners in this competition pool?
LittleMouse already mentioned about 3 winners.

Prize % distribution would be the same as the last IPL pool.
Quote
Distribution of the prize
Top 3 wins
1st - 50% of prize pool
2nd - 30% of prize pool
3rd - 20% of prize pool

Count me in as usual. However, I am comfortable paying $25 as the entry fee due to the recent dollar rate hike which has affected all currencies around the world.

Honestly, I'm fine with the rewards decreasing since I participate in these contests primarily for the fun factor. This is why it doesn't really matter to me whether a sponsor would be willing to sponsor the pool or not, but it could matter to others.
Fair enough, let's wait for more guys to chip in. For the last IPL pool, we had around 27 Bucks as entry fees so we should reach on some consensus soon.

Edit

As I have said it in the other thread, I'm interested to join in the pool. I have no problem with the $30 entry fee. Moreover, I won't have any problem if you increase or decrease the entry fee a bit by listening to the opinion of other forum members. Already 4-5 people has showed their interest to participate in the pool. 15-20 people participation will make the prizepool little attractive.
Yeah, I've noticed and did reply you there.
2056  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: October 02, 2022, 05:45:43 PM
Looks like the results are pretty much clear people at this point. India is about to win comfortably against South Africa while Pakistan is about to get decimated by England. Both finals being played on the same day turned out to be an awesome coincidence.

India and England are heading in strong for the upcoming T-20 World Cup while Pakistan and South Africa need to reanalyse their game plans asap.
If I have to make sense of this India vs South Africa match, then it was a contest of Full_Toss_Balls.

South African bowlers were horrible and they paid the price, this doesn't mean India was any better at least in last 5 overs. They did a good job in 15 overs tho, though death bowling still looking shit tbh.

@pakhitheboss Bhai you missed out last pool, check it out if you are interested this time. @Juggy777 you too bhai

Bro! @JSRAW already committed with my close circle group. I will miss this time but I will surely participate in IPL pool next year.

Okay, no worries.

Guys let's move this discussion into a dedicated thread.

@pakhitheboss Bhai you missed out last pool, check it out if you are interested this time. @Juggy777 you too bhai

@Sithara007 Didi ji, you are quite active in the cricketing thread so would be amazing if you could join us too.

Okay Ladies.. We have T-20 WC in the next 14 days, and as usual, some of us definitely want a mutual pool again.

Posting here to know if anyone is interested to have a pool for the upcoming T20 world cup. Sorry if it has been already discussed. I didn't take the time to read the last few pages though I have read a few recent replies. We may try to get some sponsors for the pool to make it lucrative. Please reply here if someone is interested. If we got 10+ interested users, we can create one. If Royse777 or JSRAW is up for creating the pool, I'm also requesting them to have their opinion here. Having a pool would be cool, would definitely enjoy it with you.

Creating this dedicated discussion thread for entry fees and sponsors (if we find one)  as I don't want to derail the main thread. Also, we have a couple of bilateral series that are live so this msz will be lost there.

If we look at overall pool history then I believe the majority of punters (almost 10-14) are okay with $30 as entry fees. If you think we need some change in the entry fees then please drop your suggestions here.

I'll notify usual suspects who are regular in our past pools and bump this post in our T-20 thread too for more exposure. Plz feel free to remind me if I'm forgetting anyone or any interested party.

I was about to create a dedicated thread for the upcoming WC last week but got busy with work. I'll create one soon, may be in next week.

Speaking from experience and being honest  I don't think we won't attract many participants as most of them hardly care for any pool or this small cricket community for obvious reasons, it's disappointing but I hardly blame them for this behavior.

I'm confused about entry fees, as usual. We know we won't attract many participants even if we keep entry fees around 5 bucks. So how about keeping entry fees to 50 bucks this time?

Suggestions are welcomed. So guys go ahead.

When there are no fixtures scheduled then it's bound to happen, for some time this happened with the ODI thread too so nothing wrong with that.

Test cricket won't die among fans as long as BIG-3 takes this format seriously. ENG and AUS won't see any decline in this format anytime soon and for India just look at a hike on Eng/Aus cricket rights deal for the Indian market, it shows the fan base is increasing and not the other way around.
