1441  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-based Tradeable Assets Used To Eliminate "Too Big To Fail" in Banks on: March 16, 2015, 08:04:10 PM
The same team that forecast the fall of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers formed a team of blockchain technology engineers and solved the "Too Big Too Fail"  issue in the banking system with Bitcoin-based tradeable assets that essentially disintermediate not only banks, but management consulting firms as well. The assets are available for purchase today, as is the counterparty risk-free solution they propose. Not a white paper or a concept, but an existing solution. See http://veritaseum.com/index.php/homes/item/106-veritaseum-vertias-user-case-to-prevent-banks-from-failing-the-next-stress-test

I don't get it, how can Bitcoin with a total world value of 4 billion be used to in any way prop up too big to fail banks?
TARP last time was 700billion officially, with more than double that actually given out to banks.

Maybe I am missing something, but it seems like bitcoin is too small to help here.
1442  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 15 killed in Taliban attack on Lahore churches, Who did that on: March 16, 2015, 07:59:51 PM
Yes the Church attacks are condemnable..But who is responsible for that Brutal and inhuman activity of beating, killing ,and then burning their bodies without any investigation! Is it not Terrorism??

No it isn't. It's called "street justice" if we want to be PC or lynching if we don't want to be. What do you expect from a bunch of angry ppl who just have lost their beloved ones?

BTW have you noticed that you called the action of your muslim fellas a "condemnable attack" (what killed 15 and injured 70) and the attacks of the enraged victims "a brutal and inhuman terrorist activity of beating, killing and then burning" two (I said two) unfortunate blokes?
Why is everyone so quick to call a crime terrorism?
Who is terrorized by these murderers being burned? Other murderers who are considering killing people in church? I can live with that.

I am against the death penalty and think it is wrong what they did, it doesn't make it terrorism though.

1443  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the European Union Dying? on: March 16, 2015, 09:47:06 AM
The core of the EU is still working well together and prospering.
Germany, France, Holland, Austria, all are doing pretty well economically and lets not forget that several major wars were fought between these countries not long ago, whereas that seems unthinkable at the moment.

The peripherals might start to leave soon in my opinion. Iceland doesn't want to join anymore, the UK will probably leave and Greece, Portugal and Spain all have enough problems with the Euro that they might leave at some point.
I don't think the EU will die, but I think it might shrink back to it's core, much like the roman empire once did without collapsing
1444  Other / Politics & Society / Re: PUTIN: Russia prepared to raise nuclear readiness over Crimea on: March 16, 2015, 09:42:06 AM
When Ukraine gave back their Atomic Arsenal it was the biggest mistake in their history. Now Russia is free to reign. Balance in region has shifted and we have one problem after another... It is a good lesson for other countries. Do not let go of your atomic weapons. It will keep you safe.

Ukraine's history of looking after nuclear material makes me quite happy that they don't have nuclear weapons to be honest.
To the story: This is all hypothetical now anyway, Russia took Crimea without much bloodshed (any?) and didn't need to use or threaten nuclear war.

Now if America starts sending troops to fight in Eastern Ukraine, it might be a different story.
1445  Economy / Speculation / Re: Australian Govt to sell 24,500 BTC on: March 16, 2015, 09:35:58 AM
I wasn't aware that any other governments had seized Bitcoins, I wonder how many others have too!
They pick their times to sell very badly, they got them late in 2013, but waited until now to sell, losing 70% of thie value in the meantime.

They also announce well in advance that they will sell, it's like when Gordon Brown sold the UKs gold at a record low price having told the market beforehand.. stupid
1446  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Discounted Heating for Low Income Families in Cold Regions via ASIC Miner Loans on: March 15, 2015, 04:10:33 PM
Has anyone attempted to pay people in cold places to install a compact ASIC like the Spondolies SP20 to heat up their homes?

This is how I see it can work.

1. Load the ASIC up with firmware that locks out the mining pool config from being changed.

2. Provide the "heater" (ASIC) for free, and pay for 50% of the electricity running costs.

3. Effectively mine bitcoins at 50% of the normal electricity costs, with no warehousing costs.

4. During spring, have the residents return the miners and ship them to another region that is now winter.

I like the idea, I really do, but I see a few problems.
Places that are so cold and would be willing to get involved in such a plan to save money, probably won't have the best Internet in the world.

Point 4 seems like the biggest issue to me. In the northern hemisphere there are lots of cold places in winter, but in spring it is only autumn in the southern hemisphere, not winter anywhere. Because of how the countries lie, nowhere is as far south as the far north countries are north, so not too many places where people actually live would be suitable for such mining. Patagonia or small islands in the pacific might be ok, but good luck get in touch with them in the first place!

I would say finding someone in northern Alaska or Iceland would be easier, then hope for a cold year!
1447  Economy / Economics / Re: I'd like to discuss M. Maloney's 'Hidden Secrets of Money' series on: March 15, 2015, 03:47:33 PM
If the audit the fed bill is passed, we might find out just how true the statements made in the video are!

It is very difficult to prove what he says is true, except some things are logical, for example: how can every country in the world have debt? That means that there is a negative amount of money in the world, which would imply that the debts can never be paid back, I mean where would the money come from to get back to zero total?
1448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top Global Law Firm: Virtual Currency is Here to Stay on: March 15, 2015, 03:42:42 PM
They obviously think the same as me, that it is inevitable that the Internet will have a currency.
That bitcoin is imperfect is what it is, but it will be the first testing ground for Internet money.

Along with that, the pseudonymity of the blockchain for keeping track of things also fits the Internet of things idea perfectly.
1449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Venture Capital $836m now 21% of Bitcoin Market Cap $3,950m on: March 15, 2015, 11:09:55 AM
I had been thinking about that recently, with the increase in investment into a relatively small environment, it is making a mockery of the total value of all bitcoins.

It's good to see all of the numbers in chart form, the DAX trades at about 20-1 PE ratio, so that would be over 16billion or about $1200 per coin if it were the same in bitcoin, I don't think it works like that in reality, but it gives a clue to what the price could and should be.
1450  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Under US Pressure Paypal Nukes Mega For Encrypting Files on: March 15, 2015, 11:05:28 AM

If you don't let the NSA in then they will find a way of shutting you down. ( Not explicitly the NSA but the umbrella conspiracy of all agencies ) Fuck em.

PLus they obviously want to ruin Kim anyway they can...I just hope he wins out in the end.

I'm glad there is encryption they cannot beat easily. Mega's and more importantly bitcoin.
But they haven't shut down bitcoin, almost makes you consider that the NSA has a back door into bitcoin, as has been speculated in the past.

Forgettin conspiracy theories, bitcoin would seem the obvious answer for anyone beng locked out of a payment system, especially one that s legitimate like mega.
1451  Economy / Securities / Re: Neo & Bee talk (spam free thread) on: March 14, 2015, 10:30:24 PM
...
Because they take a small amount of money from lots of people to make it easier for them to get away with it. All that money adds up to a nice score for them, but no one person put in enough money to make it worth going after them...

^That.

that's kind of like, crowd funding??

Yea, just like it, except for the part where they promised insane returns and actually just ran with the money.
Well that sounds a lot like crowd funding to me!
Why is no authority in Cyprus interested in chasing down the NeoBee scammers?

I felt that they were one of the best and safest investments in the bitcoin environment, I couldn't believe when it all went awry.
1452  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A Blockchain Voting System on: March 14, 2015, 10:12:59 PM

I don't vote because I have lost all faith in politicians. I don't vote because all it seems to be is voting for a cheek of the same arse, or a lesser of an evil. I'm sure some of you may feel the same.

Bitcoin as money is an amazing concept and a voting system based on blockchain technology that couldn't be fiddled would be ground shaking change.

(Change you can believe in? remember that? )((Bull shit))

I would vote if I knew 100% that my vote counted. Not voting for some candidate already vetted by the establisment.

I think this is probably being worked on by someone right now, the world needs it... politics is full of liars and charlatans.

Wouldn't it be great if voting field of play was made level by cryptography?

Blockchain voting would be good, but I don't think it would change the core problem of politics, i.e. that everyone knows that only 2 or 3 people can possibly win, all of those with a chance to win offer little real change, and when they get in they do something completely different to what they said beforehand.

First past the post is difficult, especially in the UK as a party can get 40% of the vote and win by a landslide, but without first past the post minority parties hold the power by always being able to choose who is in power.

In the US first past the post is fine, 2 parties, one wins.
1453  Economy / Speculation / Re: What was the starting price of Bitcoin? on: March 14, 2015, 10:08:15 PM
When I started trading in Bitcoins, the rate was above $300 but through some discussions on this forum, I noticed the price had crossed $1000. When was it and on what factors does this price depend on? Does it work the same way the stock market and forex operate? Also, what was the highest price bitcoin ever attained and the lowest price as well?

Currently the price is $287 and am waiting it to again reach atleast $300.
The all time high question isn't as simple as you would imagine.  The Mt Gox all time high was $1242, but at the same time it was about $1153 on Stamp. Gox was higher than all the others for a long time as no one could withdraw from there so Gox coins could only be bought and not sold!

Hopefully it will be worth debating some time soon, but I would say Gox prices should be forgotten and the ATH is $1153
1454  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why This Greek Tragedy Could Mean Global Disaster on: March 14, 2015, 08:28:00 PM
If Germany had paid war Reparations to Greece there would be no debt.

You're trying to make us believe Greece never recovered from the war? I heard most of Greece's problems come from its tax collection problems.
Your country is beautiful I'd be happy to move there one day.
I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if the Greeks used this argument to get into the Euro in the first place. The Germans owe then from the 2nd world war.
When the Greek economy was flying after joining the euro, and the German economy was doing badly, war reparations (from 60+ years ago) didn't get much press I note.
1455  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama Threatens War on Israel If It Attacks Iran on: March 14, 2015, 08:24:11 PM
I can't see it happening or being even threatened.  History usually shows pretty well what will happen in the future, and looking at the Suez canal situation, I think that would be the cause of action taken by America against Israel if they attacked having been directly told not to.

I would expect a reduction in military funding and supplies to Israel, possibly the threat of no protection in the UN cases, or even if they were ever to be attacked again by their neighbours.  There could be economic sanctions and they could even say that they will help Iran get nuclear weapons if Israel attacks them.

That would be a pretty good deterrent!
1456  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Where In The World Is Vladimir Putin? Strange Doings At The Kremlin… on: March 14, 2015, 08:19:00 PM
Well the rumours were that he is dead, but he they showed a photo of him in a meeting on the same day.
I cannot imagine that America and others wouldn't be incredibly fast in getting the word out that he is dead, or in a bad way somehow, if it were true.

I heard he has a meeting planned with the Azerbaijan president in the next few days, we should get confirmation that he is fine then.
1457  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Should setting up a mining rig at home always be profitable on: March 14, 2015, 11:23:18 AM
Just a question, I spend my time and money on various things, most of them have no real return value and money, if you look at it from a capitalist way is wasted, though some merchant might have the profits, I did not, just the sheer joy of the things I bought or the time I spent boggling my mind to do something. Like my webhost, I pay each year, but the site does nothing but host mostly my personal blog and some info, I do enjoy having my own domain and do not mind paying the money.

Could this work for mining? What if I set up a mining rig at home, just to be part of the chain? Just because I think bitcoin has a future and setting up a small non profitable rig does contribute to that future and has more of a hobby value to maintain the rig. Is that a bad thing?

Sure.  Why not?  You'd be doing no more harm than people that spend their spare cycles hunting for primes, folding proteins, or searching for extra-terrestrial life.  Just be aware that if you're mining bitcoins with a CPU or even a GPU then you're basically just running an unrelated stress test for all the good you're doing.

If you're looking for a hobby in maintaining a machine to support the Bitcoin network then I highly recommend running a full node.
It's no bad thing, but it isn't going to be popular with the masses.  I would mine if I could make a small profit, but I won't mine just to help the block chain. With all of the mining rigs out there and big mining facilities in areas of very low electricity prices, I think the blockchain is pretty safe without me spending a few hundred $ and losing my hard earned to help it out!

If things change in the future, I would be more than willing to help out, until then I will just keep my core open to help others download the blockchain, that is my small way of helping out.
1458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is this? on: March 14, 2015, 11:19:13 AM
Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

how manyyyy Smiley))

and bitcoin price anyway don't increases.

555 bitcoins or $161k moved around and it cost them 6c to send.  Bitcoin is great!
It doesn't have any influence on the price, it's probably someone moving some into a hot or cold wallet.
1459  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Purse.io - Bitcoin Amazon Marketplace - Save ~10-25% on Amazon Wishlist on: March 13, 2015, 10:55:57 PM
I agree, we should be able to update reviews on past transactions as such circumstances change.

I have another proposal for Purse. It's a big one, and no doubt controversial, but I think they need to move in this direction:

1. Create a system/method for verifying real identity of bitcoin-buyers within Purse (similar to those used by Coinbase, Kraken, etc.)
2. Then let those of us spending bitcoin tick a checkbox if we want to limit the bidders for our purchases to only those who have a verified identity.

This way, those of us looking to limit risk can choose to only transact using bitcoin buyers who have a real name, address, etc. on file with Purse (and that info can be obtained for law enforcement purposes ultimately if needed). No one need be forced to use this option, but market demand will drive the degree to which people use it. Those who don't check the box should at some point agree to accept some risk relating to their purchases.

I haven't fully thought this through, so feel free to hash this out and discuss.... I just think something like this is going to be needed, especially from a bitcoin spender point of view.

I think that is a great idea, I would definitely be more inclined to use such a service where I know that the buyer has been verified. That to me would be more important than being ale to ask for Somme crazy discount like 40%.

Hopefully either purse get their act together and offer this kind of protection (seems unlikely) or another company steps in and offers a better customer service and more security for the bitcoin spenders.
1460  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Looking for easy ways to buy BTC for customers of my website on: March 13, 2015, 10:51:29 PM
I have a website of erotic photography and the only form of payment I accept is Bitcoins. Most people are not familiar with them and most importantly do not know where/how to buy bitcoins.
On my page (NSFW!!) http://www.allurestorm.com/get-the-password/ I already have a link to Coinbase but every day new interesting exchanges come out and I would like to add a list of them on my site so to give some visibility to new exchanges. Feel free to contact me if you would like to suggest a website

For Germany bitcoin.de is the best way to get bitcoins.
You can buy them in about one day straight from your bank account, the fees are low too, I would recommend them.
