I started with DogeCoin as my first cryptocoin. I'm having fun mining various coins on my lowly ATI 7750 card (~140 kh/s). So far I'm up to 0.3 BTC after mining DogeCoin, CatCoin, MoonCoin, and now CoinyeCoin. I wish I could get into actual Bitcoin mining but the cost of entry is so high with returns that are so low.
That seems like a recurring theme. People would like to be here for Bitcoin only but they feel that the cost of entry is too high for them. The community needs to solve that problem if they want more widespread use. Maybe it is time to spread the concept of mBTC or some other sub-whole-coin system. Not everybody has to be a BTC miner. You can make your BTC mining other coins like this guy did. Any coins that have any longevity will eventually become unprofitable to small-time miners, so you just move on to another and trade the coins you make for BTC and it's essentially the same. Not everybody needs to mine at all. People can just buy coins. If you were going to just buy coins instead of mining which one would you buy? If you can't justify buying a coin to use as money for purchases why mine it at all? I don't think overstock.com will be accepting doge anytime soon. Exactly, that's why the only use of these coins is to pump and dump them. Get in early and nine whilst it's still profitable and then sell or swap for a useful currency like BTC.

You need ten posts to be able to put links in your signature. Plus, I think he'll be out of luck next month, being a new member and all... Maybe Stunna will let people off who already participated, but maybe not people who joined after the announcement. I think if you've already done a month or two but don't have 50 activity you should be allowed to continue., but obviously that's not up to me to decide Like someone already said, he made 50 activity minium to stop current complains about current members so I dont think old people under 50 get in. The 50 activity is to try curb people/bots signing up to abuse the system. If people have had successful previous payouts and have posted fine and within the rules but still have under 50 activity then I see no reason why they should now be excluded, but maybe that is the case. I guess we need clarification on this as I'm sure there'll be a few users who fall under these circumstances/terms. So we keep old spammers? Did I say that? Read what I said again. Spammers get paid now because Stunna doesn't have time to check all post, right? So if we keep them who have received payment, we keep spammers. Spammers do not fall under have posted fine and within the rules but still have under 50 activity definition, do they? So we punish everyone who has posted legitimately because of a handful of spammers?

I'm a cryptography nerd but i just don't understand what is so special about bitcoin. care to feel me in? i saw on the news yesterday that Overstock was accepting bitcoins now, so it must be pretty special?
Tell me the truth, is it legit or is it just another "false sense of security" like paypal and debit cards.
Not sure if troll, but I can feel you in if you tell us exactly what you mean by "false sense of security".

Once BTC is accepted by a large entity, like Amazon, there will be a tsunami of interest, acceptability and growth, making it the coin most of us will use.
This is already the case regardless.

How could anyone forget? A great use for some of your lingering alts! SXC & sex toys ftw! Jesus I didn't realise they accepted all them now. Still a bit annoyed that they de-listed FTC and now accept doge. Dafuq.

Megacoin is pretty much the best looking coin at the moment saw a interview with kim dotcom and he wants to create a kind of crypto network plus everyone knows this dude so I think if you start buying them now and wait till they go mainstream- think its promissing http://www.megacoin.co.nz/services http://adamcrouchley.com/did-kim-dotcom-miss-the-megacoin-train/MegaCoin was launched in June by developer Dr. Kimoto. At launch it looked like dodgy site, full of bad grammar and terrible graphics. Traffic was super low but a lot (6,000,000) of coins were mined, making speculators suspicious of Kimoto self mining and setting himself up to make a fortune. I don't think Kim is involved unless Dr Kimoto is his alias. Maybe Dotcom is trying to create a Satoshi alter-ego. The design does look pretty snazzy/professional, but that's about all it has going for it at the moment. Megathread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=240861.0

Is Kim Dotcom behind megacoin??
How do you see the progress (value increase) of Megacoin??
I'm not sure if Kim Dotcom is behind it. I assumed he was, but can't find any concrete info on it. I can't see the value of Megacoin increasing that much unless it gets some merchants behind it. I mean, what can you buy with it at the moment?

bitcoin and litecoin , everything else is either premined ,instamined or not even mineable or centralized (cough peercoin cough).
I have read in other treads where people complain about all the new premined coins that bitcoin also was premined. So was bitcoin premined or not? Not that it really matters anymore, but would be interesting to get the facts straight. No, it wasn't. Check the blockchain, but obviously Satoshi was one of the first to mine, but he hasn't spent his coins so the argument is irrelevant anyway.

Well I signed up when I had a 100 or so, am I still good?
It's based on activity not posts, and I think people who had already signed up prior to the announcement will be ok.

I don't think I have heard of any cryptocoin other than bitcoin being used for anything other than trading it for bitcoin or real money. I certainly have never seen any shops advertising the fact that they accept payment in litecoin or dogecoin.
There are some. There's a pub in London that accepts Feathercoin, and some places accept LTC, but yeah, most alt currencies are lagging way behind in merchant adoption.

Can tourists get in or is it disallowed to basically most foreigners?
The only people that are allowed in or out are political figures from North Korea or other countries. And in the case of those from the outside, it's a really picky selection process. Dennis Rodman counts as a political figure, apparently (and in the context he went to North Korea, it was to make a politically motivated appearance, even if he was just claiming to be visiting his friend Kim Jong Un) All we know about this report is that someone, who isn't the DRNK leadership, reported the story on a blog. That doesn't mean it isn't true. It doesn't mean it is either. Someone writing statements down in a public place isn't good enough to prove the contents, that's my basic rule. Dennis Rodman definitely went to North Korea and met with Kim Jong Un though, and it's pretty obvious how we know that's true. So I couldn't go to North Korea on a holiday if I wanted to, or would I need an invite from Kimmy? They didn't use any dogs apparently. Just guns.

Due to the great number of complaints about spam bots, we will be restricting the next round (Jan 17th onwards) to users with 50+ activity. Any posts you make while you are under 50 activity will not contribute to your total.
So, Its closed for newbs? Yes, I believe so. You need 50+ activity to participate. I actually think this is a good idea as it stops people just signing up to abuse the system and should keep the quality of posters higher.
