Something I need to add to the main post, and I already said this over a year ago but forgot to add it. I believe since each distributed coin only offers a probabilistic security model, which opens you up to various "long cons" and other black swan events, it's inevitable the market cap will somewhat equalize out in the top 3-5 coins. The financial industry will hedge between them and there will be no Bitcoin monopoly. Since PoW coins are expensive to maintain and are also designed to be monopoly players in the market, I don't think they will stay around in the long run.
The financial industry will just not tolerate all their eggs in one basket that can be wiped out by random occurrence. They can handle losing big with Lehman Brothers crashes and taking a 25% hit or whatever, but nobody is going to go all in on something where they can take a 100% hit. Assuming Ethereum doesn't turn out to be a pile of crap since nothing with it is finalized yet, I could foresee large market caps for Bitshares, Ethereum, something like Emunie (if it actually works), and maybe one more coin that possibly hasn't even been invented yet. Only coins capable of scaling to huge on-chain transactions would make the list.
Most consensus mechanisms are simply not viable to serve as sole world reserve currency because it's just too risky. The one exception would be DPoS and having each nation serving as a delegates. So that's really all there is to it, either a basket of currencies, or huge, non-anonymous entities taking over DPoS and serving as the delegates.
I think we're going to see a much more mixed environment than simply 3-5 top coins. Given the issues surrounding scalability, security and decentralisation vs centralisation, my model of the future of crypto is more like 3-5 different underlying technologies, supporting 100's , possibly 1000's of seperate blockchains, linked together by gateway/exchange systems (like SuperNet or Shapeshift). Think of it like a bunch of grapes, rather than one big apple. This model aviods the security/control issues of having 'all the eggs in one basket', doesn't require any single blockchain to scale up to global operations level, and allows a large degree of decentralisation. Given the way society, business and crypto technology are evolving, I see this scenario as the most likely outcome. |

It is agreed though that Banxshares is a scam. Banxshares chose Bitshares instead of NXT. NXT has far more of these types of asset scams.
Think it's more of a case of DE really, really, really not liking BTS for a zillion reasons. You don't see Counterparty, Omni, Ethereum, Horizon, etc getting the full-on DE treatment, do you ? Check his post history for some serious entertainment.... IMHO: BTS isn't a threat to Nxt, it's much more of a threat to BTS investors. Repeating this: It is agreed though that Banxshares is a scam. Like I said, if your market position was #300 where it belongs, nobody would care because you wouldn't be making a mockery out of everything Cryptocurrency is about. And you wouldn't have a fake chart to help you sell shares for more than they're worth to people who thought they saw real market data.
Nailed this whole issue, right there ^^^ @BryonP As an exchange operator, when trades happen NOT LONGER THAN 90 minutes apart, every day, for months, what does that tell us? Please supply a completed trade log of Banx shares from Feb to around June, so i can explain what i mean. Please..... What is Banxshares, guys ? Is it a crypto-currency or an asset ? I was told repeatedly during the CMC trade volume discussion that BANX was not a currency, but an asset. Heres a quote from ByronP as illustration: CMC pulls its data from the site just like you did so I don't know where the error is at this point. Also remember that this is an asset not a currency. As such assets have different parameters, prices, holds and more depending on what was negotiated for the sale. Regardless you should not call something a scam until there is some proof of such. When it comes to BANX there is a plan and it has been slowly rolling out and users have been receiving there payouts as negotiated. These are the indicators of a company that is working hard in the right direction not one that has any intention of scamming anyone. There is a ton of projects going on and a lot of money that has been invested by the owner, so if anyone stands to lose it’s him. He is going out on a limb with his money to make the plan a reality and when I say this I mean the man really has put his money on the line here.
As ByronP says, we shouldn't judge BANX by the same standards as other crypto-currencies, because it's actually an asset. I understand 'asset' as meaning that BANX is an investment vehicle, backed by a fund/holdings of some sort. If this is the case, maybe Mark and/or Byron could show everyone the fund, assuming that it is based on crypto holdings. |

A: NAUT/NXTNAUT was the original idea, and I think now that it works better. NXTNAUT is not the official name (which is Nautilus),
