1121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: R.I.P NXT on: August 24, 2014, 12:51:44 PM
Sorry, guys, but NXT is still on track and looking good.
Every drama NXT goes through just makes it stronger.

Look at the last 2 weeks:

BTER gets robbed of 51 million NXT, one of the biggest heists in alt-coin history.
We then manage to track down and negotiate with the thief, making history once again by actually managing to recover round 80% of the stolen funds.

As part of the fallout from the theft, the NXT community is given the option to rollback the blackchain, but rejects that option, proving that NXT is a completely trustworthy system. Even with close to 2 million dollars of our own money on the line, NXT did not rollback. I gotta repeat that, because it's important: NXT did not rollback.

In the midst of all this, NXT also launched the Digital Goods Store, bringing a truly de-centralised (and fairly anonymous) marketplace on-line, with unlimited trading possibilities: the Craigslist/E-bay of the crypto world:
https://nxtforum.org/marketplace/

Despite all the drama, NXT just keeps on rolling. The drama is just a sign that NXT is breaking new ground, as ever.

And lastly:
How many people are there on the "NXT SUprEMe CouNcil"? Why do they take so long to make decisions?

None......thats why it takes so long. NXT is a leaderless, decentralised community, just as Satoshi envisaged.
No gods, no kings........no Supreme Council, sorry.
Having said that, individual elements within NXT do react quickly to events, such as the hack, but there is no overall leadership structure responsible for strategic planning.
Some people see this as a weakness, but I see it as a strength in the long-term. The community decides.....

Kick....much truth, some hyperbole.
1123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: August 23, 2014, 12:25:15 PM

Looks like NXT is getting some love here......good stuff !

To anyone who hasn't been keeping up: 43 million of the stolen NXT has been recovered, there has been no rollback.
BTER is back up and running, so we're all good.....
1124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Exchange] Bter.com [Android App] [Deposit BTSX Now!][Tweets by @btercom] on: August 23, 2014, 11:37:53 AM
Please add a BTSX/NXT trading pair.

Yeah...that could be a laugh. I second devphps proposal.
1125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Bitshares] bitUSD discussion on: August 23, 2014, 11:21:28 AM
So, to sum up the situation:

BitsharesX probably is a legit operation.

The most vocal BTT/Bitshares community seems to be 3-5 new accounts plus C-f-A. (Way to go BTS!)

BTSX price (and the #3 market cap) is being propped up by using IPO money to pump it.

Hmm....still not very convinced: even if the core tech works like the best thing ever,
this kind of marketing bullshit is just gonna piss people off pretty soon.

Point from TaunSew.....maybe I should be more paranoid.
Yes it's a Cold War.  Bitshares is Chinese Communists vs the free NXT world.  NXT does not know there is a war and hence they are losing.  Who do you think has been DOSing and hacking NXT over and over?
Need to point out that, so far, NXT hasn't yet been hacked in any way that affects the core NXT technology.
All of the NXT thefts have been either basic social engineeering attacks, or weak password security.
1126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: bter hacked and lost 50m nxt on: August 23, 2014, 11:04:02 AM
@ChuckOne

Hacker just took the good stuff.....NXT and BTC  Grin
1127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Launch of Nxt Marketplace on: August 23, 2014, 11:02:25 AM
Oh noes...you can list illegal stuff on teh Interwebs?

Better ban it all then, C-f-A. You're gonna have a lot of work coming up soon, mate, lots of other 2nd gen crypto's coming out with marketplaces.
And that nasty dollar stuff.....shit, I heard u can buy guns + dope with it, in pretty much every city in the world.

While we're at it...lets ban cities as well. Too many places for drug dealers to hide.....

By the way...being sexist just makes you look like a frigging Neanderthal, TS. Really....

Heres a couple of C-f-A quotes to end on, just to give you an idea on how consistent his thinking is:
dudes,  BitShares was debunked as bullshit earlier, why keep postig the shite?

how was BTER hacked ?

you mean they left an easy password on account they claim and now they are calling the cops ?
the cops will laugh /the end
who said anyone is calling the cops?  did u forget to take ur ritalin spoetnik?
if I was BTER i would shoot the hacker and you afterwards, 2 annoying flies with one catch Smiley

~CfA~

read the topic.. same page, scroll up (about the RCMP) = Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Yeah. might need to point out that it's (allegedly) Lin from BTER who's flying all over the world, chasing TOR nodes and calling in the RCMP.
As a private citizen (and owner/operator of the exchange wot got robbed) he can do whatever the fuck he likes to chase down the thief.

His actions have sod-all to do with NXT, we've already made our choices on the hack: take the hit and carry on.
We've got most of the funds back, and BTER is out of a nasty situation that could have bankrupted/killed them.....instead they're raking in the profit on BTSX right now.
Cool Cool And we did it all the hard way, without taking the cheat option of rolling back.   Cool Cool

Right now, NXT is stable, even with BitSharesX zooming up the charts, so I'm not losing any sleep.
Long term, guys....we're only 9 months in so far.

1129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: R.I.P NXT on: August 21, 2014, 07:38:52 PM
Gotta point out here that NXTs value against fiat (USD/EUR) is holding steady, but it's not exactly profiting from BTCs rise right now.

No worries, we're here for the long term....... Cheesy

(and BTSX looks like a solid project, tbh, so this is more about BTSX having a boom right now.)
1130  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Classic wooden powerboat: ChrisCraft Riviera 1953 on: August 19, 2014, 10:06:00 PM
Swift kick for a Chris Craft classic.....price is now reduced to €25,000 or BTC/NXT equivalent.
1131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HitBTC adds NXT to exchange platform on: August 19, 2014, 12:57:05 AM
Getting back to the point, gentlemen:

Trade on www.hitbtc.com

It's a bloody good exchange, if you like being able to link your bank account to your crypto trading, their Euro transfers are smooth, cheap and fast.
And you can trade NXT......get some!
1132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT is DeaD < smart money where to now ? ? > on: August 19, 2014, 12:18:11 AM
NXT haters are wrong.

All of them? Why you think so?

There aren't that many of them, for a start. But they do post a lot.....

Go to the NXT forums:
www.nxtforum.org

Ask questions, check stuff out, and make your own mind up.

1133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: August 17, 2014, 10:18:08 PM
Anyone who traded NXT on CCEDK recently, check this out:

https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/the-winner-of-the-5000-nxt-giveaway-on-ccedk-is/new/#new

You might have won a cool 5000 NXT.......have fun!
1134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: bter hacked and lost 50m nxt on: August 17, 2014, 09:58:03 PM
@Taunsew...I have no ideas on that Burglin/Polish dude lead.
I have a feeling it's not the guy, but I haven't been involved.
Looks like this lead is on the basis of domain registration.....seems thin, but anythings possible
1135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: bter hacked and lost 50m nxt on: August 17, 2014, 09:16:52 PM
I broke a nail ! Can you do a roll back?
Isn't it too late to do that temporary roll back or whatever?
That means it is too late for NXT as well. I wonder what the hacker will do, manipulate the market or sell off.

Or maybe he'll just give most of the stolen NXT back after a deal with BTER...you never know. Shocked

@Taunsew.....it's a good story:
BTER gets hacked, 50 million NXT get snaffled (and some BTC, thief went for the good stuff  Grin)
hostage negotiations, panic, NXT community tempted by quick fix rollback, NXT community takes the hard road and chooses to stay on the main chain, BTER finally negotiate a deal and most of the NXT are returned. Everyone happy, mostly.

We're gonna make a movie one day....and I haven't even mentioned the offer of buttsex or me being a plonker yet.
https://nxtblocks.info/#section/blockexplorer_messages
search for  NXT-8WJ7-8A2H-MBYN-3W9K4 , the thief account.
1136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: bter hacked and lost 50m nxt on: August 17, 2014, 05:30:25 PM
The theft vector was pretty much the same as it always is: weak password security, this time on BTER.
So, the loss had nothing to do with the NXT technology.

The problem with doing a rollback to correct a human mistake is the question of where do you draw the line?
Today a rollback for BTER, then what ? Rollback every time something happens we don't like ?

And I need to keep pointing this out:
Devs on their own could NOT force a rollback: a majority of the community would have to actively support the revised blockchain via forging.

Anyhow, good result for NXT, and a narrow escape for BTER.

A good deal for BTER. 42M NXT worth around 1.3M dollars and 440 BTC only worth around 220k dollars.

Still, won't it be cheaper to convince NXT developers to rollback the transaction and threaten to pass the cost back NXT investors?

No...it wouldn't... You can't rollback the blockchain every time someone drops the ball on a big pile of NXT.
We're playing by big boy rules now.

Big boy rules means bankers and Currency gets bailed.

Ok, big boy crypto rules......much more integrity than the average bankster.
1137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT is DeaD < smart money where to now ? ? > on: August 17, 2014, 03:06:08 PM
U need to be careful at your age, C-f-A, excitement could be bad for your heartsies.
1138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT is DeaD < smart money where to now ? ? > on: August 17, 2014, 02:59:48 PM
I'll be sitting on my private island in the Maldives, probably.

Come on, C-f-A, even an old troll like yourself has gotta admit that this a good day to be a NXT holder.

Why don't you go out and buy some, mate?
