1003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed more than 100,000 NXT on: September 22, 2014, 07:03:44 PM
Sheesh, that sucks, mate.

The usual answer to this is almost always a weak password, with some cases of probable malware.
There was also a very early attack using compromised client software.

So, the usual questions:

Where did u d/l the client ? Did u run the checksum before unzipping ?

Results of your latest virus/malware scanner ?

Anyone else with access to your client ?

Was the password genuinely secure ? One guy used a fairly long Bible quote, with predictable results.

NXT will be implementing an Account Control feature soon, which will allow you to specify conditions for locking down your account. Not that that helps you now, sorry.

BTW: the nextcoin.org thread is from 9 months ago, head on over to www.nxtforum.org, which is currently the biggest NXT forum.
1004  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Read before investing in SuperNet ICO on: September 22, 2014, 01:01:20 PM
Again like many things said in this thread solely your opinion - long term returns etc.

Well, I don't want to sound like an arrogant wanker, (probably will, though) but so far I'm very happy with the investment choices that I've made over the last year.
So far the only crypto I've actually lost any serious amount on has been BTC, I'm pretty good at spotting opportunities, and have managed to not get badly scammed/burned yet (except for 0.1 BTC of assorted crapcoins on CryptoRush.....bye bye!). So, I trust my own opinion/intuition, and am putting my money where my mouth is.....

Well for things to become a killer app they need to be noob friendly. Unfortunately for crypto majority of things don't even come close. Given that supernet explanation is confusing (or as some supernet supporters say - you don't understand jl777 vision), I don't see it becoming killer app (IMO Wink )

Yep...n00b friendly is nice. Hopefully, as SuperNET/Unity develops, most of the complicated stuff can be hidden 'under the hood', letting people concentrate on the functionality and use. Good software development always takes time, but SuperNET definitely has the resources to create something amazing.

I don't see how SuperNET can be all that confusing (unless you try to follow jl777's complete asset and funding structure  Shocked ).
SuperNET is a very simple base concept: take a selection of the best alt-coins and join them together. The result is a system that can offer a wide range of functionality from within one interface, and the synergistic effects of pooling resources benefits all currencies in the system. We all win.....

Anyhow...SuperNet ICO is about to close, and the UNITY assets will be issued towards the end of the week:

So, yeah, let the games begin !
1005  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: THE DANISH EXCHANGE CCEDK TO CONTINUE PROGRESS BY ADDING CRYPTO 2.0 BLACKCOIN on: September 22, 2014, 11:51:49 AM
Time for a swift kick.....

www.CCEDK.com offers a range of fiat<>crypto trading possibilities, so if you want to directly buy/sell BlackCoin with BTC, USD, EUR or DKK, CCEDK is the place to be.

And did I mention that both Peercoin and Nu-Bits can also now be traded on CCEDK?
1006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NHZ] - NeXT Horizon | ***PoS*** | BOUNTIES | escrow@poloniex on: September 21, 2014, 10:06:23 PM
Hmmmm....sticking my nose in here....Hi, NHZ dudes!

I've been buying in NHZ with my loose change on Poloniex for a while, ever since Damelon convinced me that it was a good idea.
Not so sure now, 'coz a dev dumping 23 million NHZ on a rising market is indeed a bit of a dick move, putting it mildly.

But I do think I understand silverNXT's motivation: it is good for the distribution (something NXT knows all about  Grin ), a mega-pump 'n' dump right now is not going to be good for NHZ long term, and it's good to have your devs (and important community types) well-funded enough to be able to work on projects without worrying too much about paying their bills.

I do strongly suggest that you guys put some sort of community funds control into place so that this can never happen again, though.
This event seems to have not damaged NHZ's rep too badly, but I wouldn't recommend doing it again.
Take the NXT model: place the community funds with treasurer(s) , ie trusted escrow/respected NHZ whales, elect a 5 man committee to approve spending decisions. Anyone can apply for funds, and if approved, the committee then issues instructions to the treasurer to pay out. This way, at least 6 other people have to be involved in any spending decision. Make sure to keep the entire process public and transparent, allow the community to vote on big spending requests.

Good luck, onwards and upwards....
1007  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Read before investing in SuperNet ICO on: September 21, 2014, 09:45:31 PM
Yep, there are far, far, worse things out there than SuperNET.

Couple of other points....I don't really see SuperNET as an 'exit strategy' for NXT whales. SuperNET is going to bring a lot of extra services and traffic into the NXT eco-system, so holding either NXT or SuperNET will give good returns over the long term. Never forget that NXT (and SuperNET) are not about short term pump 'n' dump action, but about building stuff for the long term. NXT is barely a year old, and is very, very successful so far, so I don't think any whales are looking to exit just yet.

Just in case some of you guys haven't seen this yet, this diagram gives you an idea of what SuperNET is going to become.
I am pretty sure that jl777 can pull this off (he's already got a massive team of devs/helpers from all the SuperNET communities helping out, btw) so the only question I'm asking myself (and others) is whether this will be the 'killer app' that finally takes crypto mainstream, or just a very cool system of united alt-coins ?

Either way, I'm prepared to put about 10% of my net crypto worth into it, and then see what happens......
1008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unofficial Boolberry Namechange Poll (Keep boolberry is an option) on: September 21, 2014, 09:22:50 PM
Yep, whoever came up with Vortex needs to be first against the wall when the revolution comes.

My 400 BBR worth on this debate ('coz I am such a whale ):

When I first heard of Boolberry, my initial reaction was "uggghhhhh" but it's grown on me since then, and now feels kind of cute and fluffy.
Of the other proposed names, only Rune works for me, so I propose:

Runeberry !

I'll get my coat......

I was watching, he posted a link to the forum where he confirmed that it was him who showed up @ poloniex (but he has deleted that post now, after it was verified by the chat).

Also here is some more of the chat log...

I can verify the trollbox chat log...looked like BCX for real to me.
I've got no skin in the Monero game, btw, so I'm reaching for the popcorn....got some BBR, tho', wonder how this will affect the old Runeberry?
1010  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Asset exchanges 24h volumes on: September 20, 2014, 11:10:47 PM
Sometimes, the best tech doesn't always win a clean victory.
Community support is very important for crypto adoption, ....*SNIP*I believe that there is so much room to grow in both the crypto and (eventually) mainstream spaces that everyone who invests in crypto right now (be it NXT, BTSX, Qora, BTM...) is probably going to profit.

Your two positives for NXT AE are fallacies. NXT wasn't the first mover advantage, colored coins was discussed long before NXT was ever heard of and was implemented by Mastercoin I believe. Community support isn't that important in the long term in fact it can be a hindrance to going mainstream at some point. The crypto community is a very small group of people in the big picture of things, if asset trading is to become the 'new decentralised stock market' then we are in germination season only.  I like to give the example of MySpace for NXT but I have warned them many times that they complicate things and have too many moving parts and a cluttered sprawling leadership that might hinder it from the mainstream......like MYSpace did.

In reply; colored coins / AE may have been discussed before, (like pretty much every basic feature of NXT and most 2nd gen. cryptos) but NXT's implementation of AE has spawned a growing eco-system of assets, funds, and businesses on a scale that no other AE has achieved so far.
The basic AE functionality is being built upon by several 3rd parties to create more advanced applications (like Multigateway, Coinomat, SuperNet, SecureAE), so I'm quite happy to claim that NXT AE has the first mover advantage.

Community support a hindrance? I don't see it. We should, of course, always try to push the adoption of crypto to the mainstream, and the more people on the job, the better.

I think you may be missing two of the core points of NXT: the first is that NXT itself is relatively simple, but stable, secure and powerful software. The complicated stuff is being built on top of NXT itself, often by 3rd parties.
NXT is as complex as the user demands: if you want to just store and transfer NXT, you can. If you want to build a galaxy spanning SuperNET to take over the entire crypto world....you can do that as well.

As for the leadership thing......NXT has no real leaders, and thats the way most of us like it. NXT is always intended to be as open and decentralised as possible, and that extends to not having a leadership structure, to allow every member of the community to have a voice and to contribute in whatever way they want.
NXT will finally have the voting system up (soon) so that may make community decision-making quicker, but probably won't cut down on the arguments much.... Grin

1011  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: *Must Read* especially noobs! how to make profit on: September 20, 2014, 09:11:47 PM
+1 to OP, good post.

Just need to add: research, research, research !!!
Don't buy in just because something's gone green on CMC: if a coin is a good deal now, it'll still be a good deal in an hours time after you've had a good look at it.
One of the best indicators of a success is community.....100 people backing a coin will take it a lot further than 10.

If you intend to day trade...don't forget to sell !
It's real easy to hold on just a little bit too long to a pump 'n' dump, leaving you chasing a falling market to get rid of your bag o' crapcoin just like everyone else.
Better to sell early, and take smaller profits, than to hang on too long......

Be realistic. Hoping that RobotSexNickels will make you a millionaire probably won't get you very far......but buying in a load of Primecoin and re-selling at a 10% profit will get you a little bit closer to your goal, and you can do that with lots of coins pretty much every day.
1012  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Asset exchanges 24h volumes on: September 20, 2014, 03:38:46 PM
Sometimes, the best tech doesn't always win a clean victory.
Community support is very important for crypto adoption, first mover advantage is also pretty useful, and NXT has both of those right now.

I do like the asset:asset trading possibliity in Qoras AE, but I'm not convinced that it's the killer feature that Qora are hoping for.
As a trader, I like being able to keep a reasonable track on my trades, and being able to trade asset<>asset could be confusing for my little brain.

The other consequence of asset<>asset trading could be that it may tend to equalise out the value of all assets in a particular exchange system, as there is less resistance to trading in the Qora AE asset<>asset model than in the asset<>currency<>asset model as in NXT AE.
This could also lead to a very unstable AE, as people rush into whichever asset is currently slightly ahead of the rest.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out, anyhow.

@CoinHoarder: yep, the NXT/Counterparty AE's do bring a certain level of risk...... Shocked
Again, I'm curious to see how BTSX works out....
I'm completely happy with seeing competitive/interesting 2nd generation systems coming out, I believe that there is so much room to grow in both the crypto and (eventually) mainstream spaces that everyone who invests in crypto right now (be it NXT, BTSX, Qora, BTM...) is probably going to profit.

1013  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Asset exchanges 24h volumes on: September 20, 2014, 02:37:07 PM
Right, lets do it:

NXT AE: biggest and best crypto-asset exchange at the moment.

With BitShares in #2, and CounterParty surprisingly low.....I'd expected more from them, tbh.

Here's the CMC asset listings:
http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/

Seems to be lacking on the BitShares side, do they have any user-created assets yet, or just the currency pairings ?

1014  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Asset exchanges 24h volumes on: September 20, 2014, 02:12:50 PM
Nxt: http://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/nxt-asset-exchange/
Volume: $ 94,544

Mastercoin: http://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/masterxchange/
Volume: $ 17,140

Counterparty: http://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/counterparty-dex/
Volume: $ 161

Anyone has data on BitsharesX?

Dogeparty and Qora AE are to start trading shortly.

Any other AE I missed?

A post entirely for the purpose of boasting about NXT. Slow hand clap....

Permission to post again in maybe 12 months when Qora rapidly takes over NXT cause you know cause it's like not clunky and retarded like NXT's AE.

You don't have a chance, enjoy your time in the sun MySpace.

Oooh...who's feeling a bit grumpy today ?
Nothing wrong with presenting a wee bit of good news, mate.
Permission to call you clunky and retarded in about 12 months ?
Qora looks like a good project (IMHO), but there are a lot of other good contenders for the 2nd generation crypto crown right now: Crypti, NODE, NeXT Horizon, NFD.....interesting times coming up.
1015  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] OFFICIAL VOTE for Boolberry (BBR) Renaming/Rebranding! on: September 17, 2014, 11:33:43 PM
Rune, tho' I did kinda like Boolberry....
1016  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's going on with the "older" coins? on: September 16, 2014, 11:45:26 PM
Is it correct in assuming if you own nxt or dogeparty you also have a part of any asset issued through the respective protocols?
For NXT: nope, not even slightly. The assets are the property of the issuer and the buyers/investors, you can buy an asset with NXT, but simply holding NXT does not give you a share in any NXT assets that you do not directly own.

For DogeParty: no real idea, but I think that its the same.
1017  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHY is jgarzik concerned about Nxt? on: September 16, 2014, 11:09:48 PM
Perhaps because NXT is shady and most likely a scam? As far as I recall he was just pointing out that the source included in the release is *not* the source that built the official binary of the NXT client because hashes mismatch, thus revealing that something very shady is apparently going on

Hah...sucker !

We explained all that stuff to J yesterday, as you should know, so check the discussion out in its full glory here:
https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/a-longer-reply-to-jeff-garzik/

So whats the very shady, then, matey?
1018  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHY is jgarzik concerned about Nxt? on: September 16, 2014, 10:51:24 PM
Maybe Jeff wants in on SuperNET?  Shocked

1019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BCX thinks he could attack Monero (ROFL), major wannabe on: September 16, 2014, 10:46:23 PM
Looks like I gotta run to the store and get some popcorn...

Can you pick me up some beer on the way ?
And some Rizlas might be handy.... Grin

This could be worth watching, I really can't figure out if Moneroman88 is an insane pro-Monero troll, an anti-Monero troll pretending to be pro-Monero to just annoy everyone, or a pro-Monero troll trying to arouse the sympathy vote for Monero by making it appear as if someone is plotting against poor Monero......my heads hurt.

It would be nice to have less Monero threads round here, though, I kinda miss the good old days of constant anti-NXT action, and I still have no idea why Monero is apparently so damn kewl, despite the ridiculous amount of posts about it.

1020  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Read before investing in SuperNet ICO on: September 15, 2014, 11:56:23 PM
So the guy made 4000 posts on this forum in one year, but did not bothered to reply on this post?

I'd rather have him coding than posting, tbh.
