Like the old saying goes....there's no such thing as bad publicity, and this was a very fair and unbiased piece.
(and it had NXT in it  Grin )

This film should be shared with everyone who asks: What is crypto-currency ?

Looks like we'll need to speed up our Catzilla® breeding program.....anyone know where we can get some open source T. rex DNA?

624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptxe Voice trading Bitcoin exchange open for trading on: February 21, 2015, 11:57:07 AM
I didn't say 'no red flags' ......I said no 'massive red flags'

I've also done some digging, and StreetViewed the address, and came to the same conclusion: guy at his parents house starting a crypto-biz.
To be fair, I've seen far worse things when doing research into crypto-based start ups, and there are many exchanges that are operating on a similar set-up.

None of this means that we should immediately start trusting Cryptxe, though.
Or any centralised exchange  Roll Eyes

But, hypothetically, the advantage of losing money on Cryptxe is that it would be relatively easy (for me) to nip over to Skelmersdale and sit on Cryptxe's doorstep until I got my money back. Try that with BTER........

625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CNN Inside Man bitcoin episode review! Share your opinions! on: February 21, 2015, 11:41:11 AM
alot of the scenes seemed staged. im sure they had to setup camera angles first. im sure he didnt magically go into the shop and all of a sudden the camera get the perfect shot!

I've done some work with TV stations/production companies, mostly for news teams out in the real world.
I hate to break it to you, but almost everything you see is set up before hand.
This doesn't mean that the entire content is faked, but getting good footage isn't all that easy, expecially if you're working with non-professionals who get nervous as soon as a camera is pointed at them.  Not to mention that technology *always* fails in the presence of a camera team........

So, the fact that a lot of the footage is stage-managed really isn't all that strange.
No-one wants to see an hour of Morgan walking in and out of shops asking if they take BitCoin, while other customers stick their heads in front of the camera.

Heres a couple of links:

Story on CCN:

I liked the show overall, gave a good no-bs view of Bitcoin. It was filmed in July of last year, though, so does feel a bit out of date.

The best bit is here, however, at the 6.00 minute mark:

Sneaky NXT promotion rules!
627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT WILL PREVAIL! on: February 20, 2015, 06:51:54 PM

Many NXT assets are fail. So if you want to play with NXT, Be with NXT.

Many are indeed, very much fail....but many are genuine projects that could prove to be worthwhile to invest in.
Like everything in crypto (and investing in general), do your own research before investing.
628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cleanup: I'll attack some coins - I owned APEXcoin for 90 blocks on: February 19, 2015, 09:33:08 PM
Looks like Argon18 has taken his outraged sense of justice somewhere else.

Anyone else worrying about cynicSOBs reward for his work.....don't.
NXT has always been happy to pay up for solid information on exploits, and we're giving cynicSOB a free run on NXT Testnet, which is identical to Mainnet, but a much smaller sandbox environment...and TestNXT instead of the real thing.

Like most NXT projects, we'll talk/argue a lot and finally agree something after a vote or three, and if cynicSOBs work checks out, he'll get bountied.
629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: BTER profit sharing contract, similar to mining contract, $20k ICO interest now on: February 19, 2015, 08:30:31 AM
I had a small brainstorm session about a BTER rescue possibility a couple of days ago.

Apart from the point raised above by J, the other main practical issue that I see with a BTER rescue is that of trust in the BTER infrastructure:

BTER has now been hacked hard twice, which means that both the staff and physical/software infrastructure of BTER can no longer be trusted.
Any investor/white knight will therefore have to either replace (or thoroughly check) every aspect of BTER, as well as monitor the day-to-day operations.
The investment of money and time that will be needed to create a trustworthy BTER will be almost the same as that needed to set up a new exchange.

I'd prefer to concentrate on the development of de-centralised/distributed exchanges, rather than rescuing centralised businesses.

630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: BTER profit sharing contract, similar to mining contract, $20k ICO interest now on: February 19, 2015, 07:42:46 AM
This is a very sketchy idea. I've pretty much lost faith in BTER over the last few months.
Rescuing it sounds like a good idea.......but could be a decision that turns around and bites investors on the ass.

People might be better off putting energy into finding alternate markets, rather than trying to rescue something that has already been massively hacked twice.
What ever happened to BTS much-lauded decentralised markets, btw?

From the BTS forum:

Quote
Agreed. I think the problem is we're all seeing the shrinking market cap and starting to get desperate for something to pull us out of the ashes

Well, don't be so panicky. Think long-term.
I guess this is easier for me to deal with than for the BTS community, I've already seen one BTER hack crisis so it's starting to become routine.
631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT WILL PREVAIL! on: February 19, 2015, 12:36:24 AM
Two things: So far, hands down, the best platform there is. No question about it. And support, ALREADY, of an enormous array of assets.

Second thing: Some 70 people own the lot of it. Any one or two of them cashing in, would sink the whole project and render it almost worthless.

That's why the price is 4k instead of 400k.

Aaagghhh...and a facepalm.
I'm gonna go completely mad if I have to tackle the initial distribution issue again........so I won't. Someone else can have a go.... Grin

It's a red herring anyway....NXTs current distribution is no better or worse than that of plenty of other cryptos, there are thousands of people invested in NXT.
Our big stakeholders have (mostly) proved over the last year that they will support NXT, and the few who wanted out of NXT are now out.
I'd like to also point out that the intial stakeholders are not faceless corporations or VC types, but average crypto investors who made a good decision.

NXT is in a good position right now, all it will take is for just one or two of the many current NXT-based projects to hit the big time, and NXT will take off like a train.
632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitshares on: February 18, 2015, 02:46:27 PM
Facepalm bunny would also like to play.......

Never thought I'd be able to post bunny pics on BTT, while remaining on-topic....... Roll Eyes

*groan* in tokeweeds direction, btw.
633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptxe UK-based Registered Bitcoin exchange open for trading on: February 18, 2015, 09:05:32 AM
Yep, already done most of that, and so far I'm not seeing any massive red flags.
But, this is crypto, so I'm gonna carry on being suspicious........I am going to open an account, though.
634  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptxe UK-based Registered Bitcoin exchange open for trading on: February 18, 2015, 12:28:22 AM
I only have one question: do you guys intend to run off to a tropical paradise with all of your traders funds ?
A simple yes or no will suffice..... Cool

Cool beans.....NXT was there for the last CryptoMoneyExpo, and it was a fun event.
Great chance to meet lots of interesting people from the crypto and finance worlds without leaving your chair.

How are you supossed to do daytrading if you dont let coins in the exchange's deposit?

You can deposit but don't keep there, i.e., withdraw instantly after you do a trade.

Or use a decentralised exchange.....
638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Paycoin (XPY) is scam on: February 16, 2015, 11:53:39 PM
Whats going on with XPY trading on the new CryptoRush ?
http://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/cryptorush/

As I posted that, I noticed that the 'new, and really not a scam this time round' CryptoRush seems to have gone tits-up again.
Oh, well, business as usual in crypto....... Roll Eyes

Isn't Cryptorush dead? The website is not working.

Also I didn't remeber to see Cryptorush listed at CoinMarketCap. It seems there is some bug at it, because also the price is more than 2 USD (against 0.83 at Cryptsy).
Cryptorush has run away with customers money a second time by the look of things. Offline for 22h already

That was amazingly fast, how long was the 'new' CryptoRush up for ?
I only noticed that they had come back because of all the weird market activity on CMC: GuldenCoin at #15, Opal up 500%, and Paycoin zooming back up.
Turns out that  all of the pump action was on CR with prices there up to 50-100x the current prices on the rest of the market:
http://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/cryptorush/

Now that the CR stats are working their way out of CMC, with no further trading, XPY is tanking;

Yeah, it's me, I admit it.  Cool
640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Erik Voorhees favors NXT on: February 16, 2015, 01:30:03 PM
i must say nxt is one of the major underrated coins out there. the stuff they have so far is a bit mind blowing to whatever one else is just building. its sad that they dont have the marketing down.

Marketing a crypto is kind of difficult. Because people are really resistant to things that aren't Bitcoin and like to brand everything a scam. That or you get accused of 'pumping'.

I think marketing to people outside of the crypto community is probably a lot more beneficial.

Yeah. Marketing NXT is tricky. +1
Inside crypto, you get grief for being a shill or pumper, outside crypto you have to spend 2 days explaining basic concepts before you can even mention NXT.
Still, the NXT eco-system is expanding quickly, with new businesses and users coming into NXT, so we are heading in the right direction....onwards and upwards.
