1281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin [BCN] vs MONERO [XMR] who will be the winner in the Cryptonote War on: July 08, 2014, 02:51:08 PM
What's the prize? They're both dead on arrival. Bloat bloat bloat.

The pool bloat is now over, the Monero chain grows about 40mb per week. This is a good deal for an anonymous coin.

So it's not "bloat, bloat, bloat".

Do some research and you'll be smarter for it.
It seems to me that before entering a race, your vehicle should at least be able to move.

Adaptive block sizing means right now it's hard to get money around in XMR chain because it is saturated. However, over the next hour the blockchain will expand its blocksize and this will be less of an issue. Please wait for your tx to be included in the blockchain.

Just wait for your tx to be included. That'll work well. You guys are a riot. Also I was not referring to pool bloat, but denomination bloat. Your blockchain will be many times larger than a standard blockchain. Can you say centralization?

DarkCoin should be illegal.  or closely monitored by the F.B.I. for suspicious activity.
Stupidity kills, but sadly, not quickly enough.
1284  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: July 08, 2014, 02:38:36 PM
Darkota, Gmaxwell was referring to the original implementation of Coinjoin. Darkcoin made significant improvements. Also, the data that moves between masternodes will be encrypted, making Darksend trustless. The instamine is inconsequential when it comes to adoption. In the end, Darkcoin is a far more practical solution for privacy.
1285  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: July 08, 2014, 02:06:23 PM
I don't think CN coins are going anywhere, anytime soon. There's still a ton of development work to bring them to something resembling a marketable product. Even then, no one will want to run the client because the blockchain will be massive, and the resource use will be tremendous. Centralizing the network with light clients is not a solution.

The anonymity of CryptoNote (i.e. ByteCoin, Monero, and clones) requires that all transaction amounts be broken into separate transactions for standardized fragments which causes massive blockchain bloat (for any reasonable level of anonymity) and the blockchain can never be pruned. There is already a problem with Bitcoin's blockchain being too large and it doesn't have this massive bloat. In short, CryptoNote (and Zerocoin) can't scale.

1286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] What anonymous coin will succed? on: July 08, 2014, 01:45:59 PM
You invested

tldr
Nope I didn't invest. I just make pool and provide support for noobs.

I actually want you guys to get a GUI quickly

There's 2 wallet already. The next one will be I2P wallet.

this creates MASSIVE bloat in the process

Nope. About 4-5 times bigger than Bitcoin compared to the same period of time and level of use. Not a problem at all.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=harddrive+500G

Whenever I need entertainment, I hop over to the Monero thread and watch neophytes deal with problems that Bitcoin hasn't had in 4 years. I think you're living in a world of delusion if you think that Monero will be anywhere near ready for mass market in under a year. Remember that the most technically advanced project doesn't always win. Far more often, it's the one that comes first and gets the greatest momentum. The Monero team has done almost nothing outside of improving some pool related things. Darkcoin has I believe 6 developers on its team with core changes coming out about once a month.
1287  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] What anonymous coin will succed? on: July 08, 2014, 01:30:53 PM
Superresistant, I'm confident that no one will be getting Ferraris from their Monero investments. It's a coin that's broken beyond belief. I mean look at the thread. The problems that people deal with on a daily basis are hilarious. Getting any reasonable anonymity out of CN creates so much bloat that we can assume CN is dead on arrival. These shitcoins (all CN junk) are barely functioning with a minimal level of transaction volume. I actually want you guys to get a GUI quickly, so that people will see just what an impractical joke CN coins are. You invested in something that will never amount to more than a science project.

Darkcoin may not be as anonymous as CN on the highest setting (4?), but that level of mixing will never be practical. So you can just stop acting self righteous. Your coin may be more anonymous on paper, but that is utterly meaningless. Darkcoin is a FAR (cannot stress this enough) more practical solution for people who want privacy.
Anonymint covers this in one of his posts, where he states that CN can theoretically achieve decent anonymity, but that this creates MASSIVE bloat in the process. This cannot be pruned.  Using exclusively light wallets is not a solution, as that is centralization. Enjoy your science project.

Also, not sure what you're try to do with your false dichotomy (it's either anonymous or not). No matter what you do, you're always one out of X users. So you can never be "truly" anonymous, only by degree. Even then, it is well known that much of our hardware/software has backdoors, so it's a moot point in the end.

Planned release: July 31

Fuck yeah!!!!
Hopefully it will work as supposed to this time.

Oh yea, last chance. Screw this time = huge dump.
Won't happen. The spork means that they'll know if there are issues before enforcement is turned on.

I find it hard to believe http://drkpool.darkcoin.io/ was hacked. I'm sorry but that shit just doesn't make much sense to me. I was locked out of my account for the last few months I log in now with a zero balance. No transaction history.. lulz

Any word on a GPU miner?

As you can see I've been apart of this community from the start. Just seems a bit fishy to me.
What could possibly be fishy about it? All the money was returned. You still have a few weeks to claim it.

Thing is how am i even supposed to know how much was in my account? there's no history of transactions in my account

Gotcha. I'll look into that. What was the reason for removing it? Sorry if i don't have the time to sort through 2000+ pages
Someone surreptitiously accessed the server. A small amount of coins were stolen, but that will not affect you.

Evan has it. Either he will deal with it, or he'll find someone else to do it. If I remember correctly, it will automatically pay out to the address on file after a certain period of time has passed. So you'll get it that way, eventually.

1293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Work Vs Proof of Stake on: July 07, 2014, 08:39:16 PM
PoS cannot remain decentralized because they rely on various reputation systems. This will invariably lead to centralization.
1294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Fork for Masternode Payment on: July 07, 2014, 05:30:33 PM

1295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to DarkCoin? on: July 07, 2014, 02:04:58 AM
looks like a classic mining control slow sell off to me.

this means they have real bag holders to sell to.

That's the downside to PoW.  It's one thing when people were hobby mining in 2010.  In 2014 -  Professional miners dominate it now and they're lmost never long term holders.  They have overhead bills (electricity / bandwidth / hardware) and they tend to dump at the first opportunity and then move onto the next PoW coin.

PoW is so laughable but what's more funny is people still throw their money at PoW coins

Proof of Stake is inherently flawed.

Proof-of-stake will never remain decentralized:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=558316.msg6501774#msg6501774

Send all proof-of-stake currencies to the trashcan.

LTC is dead as far as development goes. It has done almost nothing to distinguish itself from Bitcoin, so I consider it a shitcoin.
1297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to DarkCoin? on: July 07, 2014, 12:39:00 AM
Darkcoin is getting a massive update in around 3 weeks. Here's what's coming:

Darksend limit lifted
Darksend based on new crypto, extremely powerful anonymity (along the lines of ring sigs, but without the bloat)
MN payments enforced
"Spork" technology successfully implemented (enforcement = "on"); enforcement code perfected and streamlined
MN voting is deterministic
I2P integration completed or in the works
IP obfuscation

The last 2 are in the works, but it's not yet fully certain whether they will be ready in time for this particular update.

It will keep happening until we get a strong statement from Evan. It's getting a little ridiculous at this point. It would take literally 15 minutes to do.

What do you expect him to state?
