10-20 usd for a server?Huh You want the gold plated one, don't you? ;-))
Per day, he said, LOL.  Actually, I think I pay 7-8 dollars a month including traffic fees.  But I did get the 3 year commitment.
So $10-$20 is off if you want to rent the smallest server, fine. Some places charge more than others, but I suppose all the AWS servers are a lot cheaper. MN aren't intended to be run on spot instances that can come and go, so you have to pay for dedicated hosting, which means you're not paying fractions of a penny per hour but are instead paying a few cents per hour plus an upfront fee. Looks like a T1.micro will run about $0.25 per day, plus $23 upfront, and you have to pay for a year of use. So all told that works out to $128 for a year. I'm only off by a factor of 30X. ;-)

But you're all still missing the main point: tying up 1000 DRK to earn 1 DRK per day (at best) is nothing. That's a 0.1% return, and while that does work out to 36.5% per year and that's better than a lot of investments, it's still tiny in comparison to what many people manage to do with cryptocurrencies. Even at the currently depressed prices, 1000 DRK is worth $8290 set aside. I'm not going to pretend earning 10% per day -- or even 5% per day -- is realistic, but I've certainly done better than 0.1% per day and I didn't have to lock up the coins anywhere.
It's not really a valid comparison to compare passive MN income and trading. Trading carries significantly greater risk.
1322  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Is NOT Dead (It Is Just Dying A Slow Death) on: July 01, 2014, 11:12:19 PM
At the rate it's dropping, you may just have to remove the word slow from the title.
1323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Fork for Masternode Payment on: July 01, 2014, 10:14:37 PM
Yes it could be.  But what happens when people don't realize the profit they thought they would get from running a masternode?  They have close to $10,000 tied up that could be put to use elsewhere with potentially much higher returns.  If the number of masternodes starts to decrease will that be an indicator of long term uncertainty?

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised there are still 500 or so Masternodes online. 1 DRK per day is nothing -- NOTHING -- for having 1000 DRK tied up. And if you're paying for server fees and such, it's even worse. I don't know who would run a MN that costs probably $10-$20 per day in fees just to earn $10 per day in DRK. Some of them are likely IT professionals using company servers for their own gains; I can't think of any other way to make it truly worthwhile.

Yeah, I don't know where this guy gets his server prices, but you can rent a server for under $30 a month. I also remember someone mentioning that they were able to run many MNs on one server by creating virtual machines. So you're looking at maybe $1 per day, almost certainly far less.
1324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Fork for Masternode Payment on: July 01, 2014, 10:11:07 PM
Here's the thing.  Even if people were to get full payments, will running a masternode still be a good investment?  I could take the same amount of btc that people have tied up in a masternode and likely make 10% in a week based on previous returns.

Except that a masternode is plug and play once you've set it up. I can go relax on a beach somewhere, and collect my earnings. This is far more appealing to most people than trying to learn the ins and outs of day trading.

The only emotional reaction I had was anger directed at a couple shills.  Let me state this fact.  I have not lost a dime on DRK.  Maybe that's because I am one of those "Weak Hands" that you clowns keep referring to.  Well my weak hands have allowed me to sell high and buy back lower over and over again.  I've made quite a biyt of BTC by doing this.  What I was addressing are the people that bought into all this hype from fools like you and are now underwater.  Darkcoin has not delivered what was promised.  It's that simple.  But I never bought into the promises because this is crypto and I don't trust anyone or anything.  That's probably why I have been able to quit my day job.  But you keep all your eggs in one basket and think you're a big man with your piddly amount of DRK.

You are another fool that I will put on my "Do Not Reply" list.

That's like preordering a product and then saying that it didn't deliver what was promised 3 months before it's due to be released. What? Do you even read what you write? Evan never promised a full product by a given date. Development is unpredictable, as this is new ground, and unexpected issues can arise.
1326  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are the anonymity coins a 'fad' (pump of the month) like the country and animal on: July 01, 2014, 09:59:06 PM
Anominity is an important function, the only problem is once all coins include this function will anyone care about a coin whose whole point rests on one function that everyone else has.

Darkcoin has first to market power or at least first to push the anominity function. How much that keeps it popular will be up to the future. My bets are it will die a slow death.

Anonymous coins won't be accepted by big retailers.
Non-anonymous coins may be useful in some aspects, but people concerned with privacy will not use them in day to day transactions. Bitcoin is a privacy nightmare. I wouldn't use it for anything except as a store of value. If there are a significant number of people who want to use an anonymous currency, retailers will accept it.
1327  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are the anonymity coins a 'fad' (pump of the month) like the country and animal on: July 01, 2014, 09:52:34 PM
Anonymity is one of the most important features that a cryptocurrency can have. It's not a fad anymore than fast transactions are a fad. Many currencies claim anonymity, which in a way makes it seem like a fad, but the few that get it right will have real value.
1328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Fork for Masternode Payment on: July 01, 2014, 09:30:18 PM
I don't think the price at this given moment is particularly important. Some of the hype surrounding this project has died down, but that's irrelevant to its long term success. So many people fail to see this, and sell because they are unable to control their fear. Fear is the mind killer.

In reality, Dark's prospects are considerably better now than they were at its peak. We've added something like 3 developers to the team, plus a number of other people who contribute greatly in testing and managing things. The Darkcoin team is a little disorganized right now, which makes people think that things are slowing down. On the contrary, we're just getting started.

If you build it, they will come.

Damn. That's what I call commitment.
1330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Fork for Masternode Payment on: June 30, 2014, 03:49:11 PM
Darkcoin uses Darksend, based on CoinJoin, to break up transactions into a pool then the receiver can get those transactions in sections. It will appear as one lump to and from for the users. In reality, it uses master nodes to do this. However, if a master node is hacked or used to monitor Darksend, it can get the IP addresses for each transaction. This means, FBI can monitor Darkcoin transactions if they want or a hacker, etc. The master node has a slave node as a backup but it can be compromised as well. The only true anonymous transaction is in cash.

Maybe i´m wrong. But... why should i make the few Masternode Inholder even richer? There are a lot of new Coins i can make profit quickndirty regarding to rising Bitcoin.
The plan is to make the Masternodes unaware of who is transacting. So the owner of the Masternode (or a hacker) would not be able to gather transaction data.

I hope that I2P/ IP obfuscation are still on the table. If the IP of the sender is discernible, any blockchain related anonymity is rendered meaningless.
1332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Fork for Masternode Payment on: June 30, 2014, 03:17:34 PM
I think the relatively weak RC4 statement by Evan had a negative effect on price. Vague statements contribute to uncertainty, lowering confidence. We definitely have work to do on the PR front.

I know that this was mentioned previously, but a status update, even if it's once every couple of days would be great for confidence. The market needs its hand held.
1333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Is NOT Dead (It Is Just Dying A Slow Death) on: June 30, 2014, 01:45:04 PM
Looks like the thread title is accurate. A slow erosion, until panic sets in and we get a nice crash. Another shitcoin bites the dust.

Holy crap, has Litecoin gone down. I knew it would go down, but it's happening sooner than I thought. Making some room for the new #2.
1335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unmoderated XC thread on: June 29, 2014, 08:47:00 PM

there is no reason to take someone serious when comparing other coins to btc in equal ground. darkcoin, vericoin or even xc should worry about bitcoin add-on like dark wallet and blockchain coinjoin. like Greg Maxwell said there is no need for scam darkcoin or other altcoins, bitcoin itself can do all. once blockchain coinjoin or dark wallet is success with their anonymous coding then scam darkcoin is done. at this moment if you use sharedcoin(btc)+TOR then you would have much more anonomous then this scam darkcoin. there is no reason to use other altcoins or scam coins for anonymous transaction and all the smart people know this. i bet most people are here for quick pump and dump for all the altcoins

+1. All the idiotic comments about how XC, DRK, VRC, MRO etc are going to overtake BTC are just holders wanting to profit off noobs - either that or they really are that brainwashed.

Every altcoin = just a way to get free BTC through trading. The way that happens is through brainwashing other into believing it's going to be worth much more than you paid.
[/quote]
If you think that BTC will be the only successful cryptocurrency, you're an idiot. Also Darkwallet is a joke. Centralized trash.

Wow, what a sudden change of heart Dan had. Just yesterday he was trash talking Darkcoin.

I get that you guys don't like DRK, but my question is why spend so much time focusing on it? I come into the XC thread wanting to read about XC, and I only see people talking about DRK.

The truth is there are some dumb XC fanboys, just like there are dumb fanboys for everycoin. Who cares, dont associate these fanboys with the actual developers and teams behind the coins.
I don't see anything in the DRK thread except DRK related conversations. Sure, you can cherry pick a few posts here or there, but in here you have DRK talk on nearly every page. Just looks weird.

Why do you guys spend so much time talking about DRK? It's almost like DRK has 2 threads. Seems like every time I come here, it's just a "DRK is a scam" circle jerk.
1340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SCAM Darkcoin instamine 2 millions DRKs (50% of darkcoin in circulation) on: June 28, 2014, 11:14:28 PM
Terrible scam, increasing my money by over 100 times. Wish I had gone with a non-scam coin like Anoncoin, so that my money could have decreased instead.
