401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Currency has been released on: August 30, 2015, 05:54:20 PM
people seem very evasive about the number of coins that will be minted?

You are funny. All your questions are for to calculate market cap and make some short term trade on a coin you know nothing or care about.
You don't care enough to read the whitepaper. You don't skim through the thread. You are not trying to understand that this is not an altcoin
trading game coin. But to answer your ?.

Siacoins that will be mined goes down by one every block until it reaches 30k per block. After that it will always mine 30k I guess forever.
That is because Siacoin is for renting storage and for mostly businesses to store all their cloud data cheaper and more reliable than centralized services.
Siacoin is a currency for storage usage so the ultimate value and price will be decided by the demand for its storage.

Siacoin allows a little boy in Alaska to use his 4TB hdd he got for Christmas to sell his space to Netflix who will use all of Sia's thousands of storage providers to store their content cheaper than Amazon. And for Mr. Smith who used to put his videos of himself naked making muscle poses on google drive until he got paranoid that it takes only one google employee to allow a hacker to gain access to his account and upload his video where if you put it in Sia, even the hosters don't know what they are storing so you only trust Sia the protocol which is open source.

Why have torrents anymore when there is Sia. Why should those guys who upload movies for free use file hosting sites when he can now use Sia?
Siacoin will be improved and tested like Bitcoin. If you trust your money to Bitcoin you will trust Sia for your data.

If your community didn't care about trading the coin then maybe it shouldn't move to get on the biggest trading sites in altcoins....

can someone in a few sentences say why this is a great coin?
405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNOFFICIAL] VNL | Vanillacoin 0.3.2 | DarkPP/MinerPP/CoinPP | ZeroTime BETA! on: August 30, 2015, 05:25:17 AM
I would add to that, speed and security and hopefully fully anonymous will never get old. Most new coins are based on some gimmick that while impressive most likely won't be used. When all those coins are forgotten VNL will still be fast, secure and anonymous. Its is deceptively simple and not earth shattering but when it comes to making payments no one wants to wait, take on risk and have everyone know what they are doing. These are things that like I said don't get old....ever.
406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNOFFICIAL] VNL | Vanillacoin 0.3.2 | DarkPP/MinerPP/CoinPP | ZeroTime BETA! on: August 29, 2015, 11:38:01 PM
Been reading the debate about zero time and doublespending...

My conclusion for the time being is that zero time allows instant transfers whenever there isn't a malcious attack.

And although it has not been peer reviewed to stop double spending, it at least has been reviewed by poloniex enough to make it as secure as bitcoin with taking onlyone confirmation before deposit is clear.

So it takes less than 10 minutes per block and allows100 transactions/sec, while under a double spend attack ie never, and is istantaneous the rest of the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is pretty Frick in sweet  isn't it?
Probably even a game changer.

Disclaimer, I own a few btc's worth of vnl, but I own more xmr and btc than I  do VNL.

So does that mean Poloniex now accepts deposits using zerotime, or is there still a 1 confirmation hold time? I think the 1 confirmation was already pretty fast, so I do not know if this would even make much of a difference transferring to/from exchanges.

Where I could see zerotime being more useful would be in retail establishments, buying a bagel and coffee for instance, the proprietor could confirm in near real-time the transaction is valid. Of course, most places that accept Bitcoin already use Bitpay or something similar, and they transfer the already low risk to a third party, so even in this scenario I am not sure how useful this is in the real world. It sounds cool and all, but I am struggling to find the real value here.

Polinex still is waiting for 1 confirmation....maybe as people start to trust Zerotime they can remove it but exchanges won't want to rush to do that I imagine due to their focus on tight security.

I disagree about the third party instant processing of third parties like Bitpay.......I haven't used them but assuming they are almost like using some kind of PayPal for BTC I would say there is a world of difference even if the user experience feels the same. Many people might not care but the difference between centralised and decentralised is everything. Especially if the centralised option goes through the banking system.....kind of misses the point of cryptocurency IMO.
407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GEMZ]|GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays | LIVE on Android and iOS | on: August 29, 2015, 11:30:40 PM
Just an opinion but I never saw the pin as a biggie but it's true anything that adds to the registration process definitely causes some kind of friction. When downloading an app or game just on mild curiosity I often abort if they start asking too much of me in terms of info. The less the better IMO.

BUT the pin was actually not so complicated it's the having to give a phone number that puts some off and also the pass phrase as well I imagine....I guess you got to have decent security. I wonder if email registration is enough security for an app like Getgems? Its what people have become familiar with these days.
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If not Bitcoin , then what ? on: August 28, 2015, 05:31:45 PM
People need to look into Vanilla Coin fast. I won't say anything just go look at what it does. And don't let the name put you off, it's not a clone....just sounds like one.
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If not Bitcoin , then what ? on: August 28, 2015, 05:29:47 PM
This is a very "religious" question. It depends on what you believe. Some say coins like Ripple or Ethereum will replace Bitcoin one day. Others however say movements like NEM, NXT or Qora. I personally believe that Bitcoin will be the #1 coin for a long time. It is the most community and business supported and established coin.

I like how you slipped in NEM and particularly Qora......ie they don't have a hope in hell but your bag holding them.
410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GEMZ]|GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays | LIVE on Android and iOS | on: August 28, 2015, 04:18:15 PM
Darkcoin changed to DASH
Maybe GetGems and the naming of the GEMS inside the app can both change to Gemz?

GEM is already taken by another bitcoin company btw - https://gem.co/.

I would vote for Gemz Messenger if indeed the tokens inside the app also change to Gemz, if not then GetGems is the best choice, but the most important is putting a solid working app and releasing the airdrop and AE.

I also pretty much agree on the name too. But also as you say the important thing is the app, Whatsapp is actually a terrible name, people accept apps name is the function is good not the other way around.

I hope the airdrop is coming soon, Getgems needs some momentum again. I'm most excited about the app working and seeing how the right kind of marketing can rapidly boost the user count. Telegram got traction cause the makers already had a high profile. We will need to work to get the app in front of eyes.
411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GEMZ]|GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays | LIVE on Android and iOS | on: August 28, 2015, 01:05:14 PM
Something I have been thinking for a while is burying the Telegram connection. Or at least underplay it. Taking the Telgram logo off would be a start. Reason being it makes Getgems look unoriginal, plus Telegram users can find they can move to Getgems anyway if they are sent an invite and also I can't see anyone who has decided to download Telegram to decide to order one based on Telegram....I would expect them to go for the original.
412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If double spending is such an issue and VNL solved it, where is the press? on: August 28, 2015, 06:19:23 AM
JC is making something great and you two idle dicks who seem to think you know more than him are forum dickheads.....have a nice day.
413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If double spending is such an issue and VNL solved it, where is the press? on: August 28, 2015, 06:04:08 AM
another semantic theoretical based FUD. I don't know exactly how much of the code if it resembles some of Bitcoins ideas then how is he a liar saying its a completely new 'rewrite'. You know if I rewrite the script to Batman.....Batman still gonna be in it right?

The fact is.....which is THE WHOLE point is JC work does something other coins can't......history won't care about your intellectual hissy fits.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/rewrite

So far all I see JC said was this in the official ANN.

"What is VanillaCoin?

Vanillacoin is not a clone of Bitcoin or Peercoin, it was engineered from the ground up and is designed to be innovative and forward-thinking. It prevents eavesdropping and censorship and has security in mind."

And this comment which basically makes clear he isn't reinventing the concept of Crypto when accused of copying some fundamental ideas of Bitcoin.

"Is a Honda car a clone of a Ford car? Cool

Thank you for your support."
414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If double spending is such an issue and VNL solved it, where is the press? on: August 28, 2015, 05:12:31 AM
(especially an unregulated one)

Thank the gods for that. I hope it remains unregulated. I am sure you agree that another name for "unregulated" is a "free market".

Just making an observation, not a value judgement. A consequence of that free market is that people are naturally going to be (and should be) more skeptical.

I'm skeptical why you need to discuss that general issue all over this thread.

Because it answers the question "Where is the press?" You know the actual subject of this thread.

Mathematical proof of security or GTFO. There is none in his white paper.

1. No proof of security

+

2. Proven lying scumbag plagiarist as lead developer making these unproven claims of security.

=

3. Legitimate press is going to ignore (though I bet you could pay for some, and probably will).

Investors grab your wallet and run the other way. <= good advice

Dude explain how VNL is any different to any other ALT in the last two years but they get press with their innovations. Its open source for fucks sake, most coins don't even go open source for months...Open source means if you have a problem you got to highlight it, specifics.....you are no better than a sock puppet one post account saying this coin is shit.

Yeah you are going to have to prove copy paste that JC copied any major elements of Bitcoin.....thats FUD, plus JC has said its a completely new rewrite......he never said he reinvented how crypto worked. You are really have an agenda to find tiny details and making them look like lies. it makes you the twat if you don't back up statements like that....makes you a lier and worthy of losing your precious trust rating.  Wink.......ill give you by the end of the day to do so.

I'm skeptical why you need to discuss that general issue all over this thread. As you and your buddies have shown nothing more than general vague criticism this is the definition of FUD.

You can't double spend VNL even though it has zero confirmations. ie awesome.
416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If double spending is such an issue and VNL solved it, where is the press? on: August 27, 2015, 06:15:02 AM
i hope you PM'ed JC like someone told you to.....no one can be at a keyboard 24/7....hence AFK. Away From Keyboard.

Does anyone know personally these millionaires who always seem to have $100k worth of coins?
It just seems strange. If I was that rich I wouldn't gamble on crypto. Maybe rich people just get bored and need to gamble.

100k doesn't make you a millionaire. Damn a nice car these days can cost nearly that. Don't forget the miners who have been causing problems for VNL plus some will be exchanges. Sure a few whales are involved but someone could of scoped up a ton of VNL when it was much cheap than now for not that much BTC. they took a risk, they did well.

Most big holders are really just holding 30-100k of VNL and you don't need to be rich to do that. At least not at this stage.

How many of your friends pay for a 100k car with cash? Most bitcoins are not bought with credit like cars are. So anyone throwing around 100k worth of cash is either stupid or a millionaire (probably both). I'm just curious is all.

My point is a very average family car these days cost in the 40-50,000 range.....owning two cars say doesnt exactly put you in a Beverly Hills Mansion. Bottom line even after the recent rise the entire market cap of VNL is $650,000 if we all sold now, though impossible without crashing the market we could all as a group afford a really small 3 bedroom semi detached house in a crappy suburb of London. No one here is Bill Gates just yet....

@Coinigy @CRInvestor Please analyze $VNL, if you do, I'm sure people will listen in!

See what The Rational Investor and others think about $VNL LIVE tonight:

From what I listened to the guy had some ok points, and it's true that VNL is in a trading range potentially hoping to rise at some point. But I think he is and was thinking purely like a stock trader, even using terms like retail investors......when lets face it most coin are only retail investors. I think coins do follow patterns but prices moves in coins are far more susceptible to news and also manipulation as the majority of coins still have tiny volumes compared to stocks. He missed the market manipulation and NEWS/FUD that is revolving around this coin so any real price discussion isn't going to follow charting analysis much.

I'm on the VanillaCoin IRC now. Where is "john conner"?

Some people sleep. There are others who understand the tech, so ask you questions on there.
