Marketing marketing marketing ...... -Looks better than whatsapp -100% free (whatsapp costs like 0,8 euro a year) -lightning fast and easy payment methods in btc and gems -secure .. nobody can read your stuff etc I missed something? hehe So where on the internet can people see the advantages of gems etc? I could only persuade 3-4 friends to install the gems messenger. They dont care about security and one of them said .... quote: wtf is cryptocurrencies? Basically we need whatsapp to get hacked... very very hard... sooo hard that people cant use the app for dayzzzz... If something like this occurs in the future and gems isnt exploiting this happening then i don't think you are ruthless enough to be the best. Making new tech is nice, but if you dont crave to be the best and be ruthless .... then lesser tech will beat you https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UlJku_CSyNg

Its not massive but there is a small pop in the price around 7.5% but its significant cause it breaks out of a narrow tradin range we have been in. Im not interested in the speculation just wondered if there has been any news that has caused it?

As much as I love Gems, I am sort of wondering why they're working on these emoticons and not on the iPhone version.
I have been using the old version and texting a few of my android friends and sending them gems. To me, it is already the best messaging app in the world. We just need the iPhone version so it can be used by everyone!
I think there will be time for cute little emoticons later.
I hope the app doesn't become too cluttered. Saying that I live in Korea and would love it if Gemz developed later into something like Kaotalk. I don't know much about messenger apps but there seems a lot of room for expansion once you get users onboard. I think Kaotalk has separate apps though. I wonder if the Gems team have a product they want to emulate or have a separate vision? Will the app ever get a calling option? http://www.kakao.com/Although none of these apps make it able to do money transactions instantly with zero fees and rewarding users like gems plans to do. This alone is revolutionary. This app needs to go mainstream before one of these messengers start to copy its model. I think every legit feature the community wants to see can and will eventually get implemented, updating the code is something that is always happening. Even apps that are out for years are still improving. I think there are some suggestions by the community regarding features, something for Danial maybe in the next Q&A. I agree the absolute KEY to this app is distinguishing itself by its cryptocurrency element and its user owned advertising model. Everything else is moving a bit off point really. I was just thinking forward that once Gems has a solid user base it is a project that can move beyond messenging to wider social media and beyond to eCommerce for example. The advertising system that rewards the actual users is unique and should really be highlighted. Its kind of democratization of social, I think people want this a lot especially those tired of FB etc making money off OUR personal info. Plus apps like snapchat etc are already moving into payments, I know its not crypto but to the average Joe its the same. What singles this project out is the advertising/attention model. I don't think many have grasped how revolutionary this system could be. I don't know if using Telegram was a mistake or not but I REALLY want to see the app on iOS and the airdrop in place within one to two months, 3 months MAX. Timing is essential.

If not Bitcoin, one of the other Alt coins based on the Bitcoin protocol.... will take it's place.
It will disrupt the financial systems as we know it, and we will see innovation far beyond what we ever saw in the finacial sector.
I do agree with Casares, money will not be the same, and people will change suddenly to the new defacto currency.
If there are other altcoins thrown into the mix then how can anyone reach concensus? Basically the financial world will look like the altcoin section on here. I think Bitcoin has to be the backbone of the system or it all all unravels.

Anyone know how to delete contacts in the app?

This is all well and good but I hope the main selling point is free Gems. I really hope iOS and the airdrop is done soon, I was hoping to get a rough timeline for that in the development report. For me it's those two things that hopefully will start the viral party going with this app. Till then I'm sitting on my hands in terms of inviting people.
I admit kind of funneling people into apps does work, I mean that's how FB grabbed people in the first place by giving an email and suddenly it's hard to get out. But I think Recieving Gems will be the thing that gets people to run at the app rather than be dragged or tricked. The price of a Gem is just a couple of cents right?, but if it increases to around 50 cents or even 1$ later when people see that they can recieve a dollar or two over a day or week etc it will be like a modern gold rush. Then the PR will be effortless.

Why people dumped like they bought free?
Want to point me toward how much volume was 'dumped'?

Gems if the chat app starts to go viral then it will explode up in price taking BTC with it.

This story is part of bigger story I tried to tell people about but they didn't seem to get the significance. Google Adyen and Bitcoin if you want to know what I'm talking about.

Capitalism with a sound monetary system is the best system we have. Unfortunately people are mistaken and have been convinced by the mass media that Capitalism doesnt work when actually what we have today is Crony Capitalism. The elite want to bring in more socialist system because this is a far better way for the elite to become rich and control the masses.
Without governmnt support for the banks and big business we wouldn't have any of the issues we are having in the west. For one thing if banks became insolvent they wouldn't be bailed out by the Federal reserve. They would and should collapse and that capital could be used for more productive endeavours.
No checks and balances for those who cheat? WTF are laws susposed to be? The problem is laws are either being created by those who want to use them to their own self interest through Lobbyists or simply not being upheld at all. Almost no arrests have occurred in the recent banking corruption. Not point fining a bank a few billion in they make 100 billion a year. We don't need a new system we sims need to reform the system back to what it was intended. No FED, no illegal money printing, making Lobbying illegal, small government, property laws upheld.
And for fucks sake can people from Northern America stop saying Democracy is not working in their country, America is susposed to be a Republic not a Democracy.

I hope any viral push to get more users doesn't 'push' people to download too much. There is a fine line between invited to something that is related to what you are trying to do and you actually want it and semi pressured into which is common these days but turns me personally off a product even if it might be good.
Viral to me is more about creating buzz and getting the word out and then people voluntarily seeking it out, which this app naturally has in spades due to people receiving GEMS basically for free.

I wish people could get off the FB thing. So many other retailers like Spotify would be the kind of new media that wouldn't have any reason at all to reject a payment method. FB is maybe too high profile, some people out there don't want Bitcoin to succeed so might whisper in FB ear to not accept it. Don't forget the pressure these media companies we know are under from governments in the form of NSA etc. If they can sell the idea Bitcoin is used by TERRORISTSSSS then a big company might not touch Bitcoin.

By the time Bitcoin goes mainstream Facebook will not be anymore the 1st social network, something else will replace it.
The payment processor deals with 3,500 retailers. They can along with FB process payments (in theory) from all of them I guess as of now.

Q: Any plans to create a Windows Phone version?
I mean desktop Windows Q: Are you planning to have a desktop client? A: We are considering a desktop/web client. We have not yet decided though on the exact security policy that will be enforced on desktop since desktop apps are naturally less secure than mobile apps (a mobile phone is always in your pocket and can be immediately identified using an SMS). There’s a good chance we will require users to confirm their identity via SMS every time they start a new session. In addition, there’s good chance we will decide that passphrases will not be encrypted locally using a PIN in a desktop app, and instead will have to be typed every time the user wants to send BTC/GEMZ. I believe there is also a Counterwallet going to be available for desktop which is compatible with gemz. Desktop wallet should be high on priority so it is a platform agnostic service and not tied in particular to mobile/desktop. This is how services should be in 2015. You must mean a web wallet cause Desktop wallets are about as far away from platform agnostic as you can get.

Facebook doesn't take Bitcoin, its the payment processor that provides a option to accept Bitcoin. If the operator don't check the option to accept Bitcoin, Bitcoin still wouldn't be accepted. The title is misleading.
I'll be honest I put the title as Adyen will accept Bitcoin and I noticed about 3 people read it over an hour. I thought it was worthy of people seeing so I changed the title which is slighty misleading and about 50 people read it literally in about 2 minutes. Anyway I changed it to exactly reflect the story. The fact is this is quite a big thing that is bigger than FB and includes a ton of other major retailers. The payment processor is dealing with 25 billion! annually in transactions and is growing rapidly so it is not a small story that there is now a lifeline into these markets. And its going to be an interesting story to follow cause as the article says many big retailers thought Adyen can now accept Bitcoin without any effort so they will have to refuse Bitcoin on grounds not based on good business cause I'm sure any retailer will be happy to take peoples money if it means zero effort to them but potentially increases sales. The question now is why wouldn't they? Potentially its a backdoor for Bitcoin to the mainstream. http://cointelegraph.com/news/113418/facebook-spotify-uber-airbnb-can-now-accept-bitcoin-after-bitpay-deal
