1361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Great Decoupling on: January 14, 2015, 10:47:21 AM
Bitcoin has dominated all other cryptos. Without Bitcoin, we'd never be where we are today.

But Bitcoin is now old tech (that's my view). Bitcoin is incapable of being a global currency (either today or in 100 years' time).

And as Bitcoin becomes less and less dominant, can other cryptocurrencies now diverge independently from BTC?

Pretty much every cryptocurrency of significant market cap has danced in step with Bitcoin. Until now.

From the market over the last week, we can see the beginnings of alt-coins decoupling from the Bitcoin monster. It's sad to see Bitcoin dwindle away and so many people lose their money, but it has to happen this way. Bitcoin cannot do what we need it to do.

The only one I have heard of is NuBits: https://nubits.com

This crypto currency is pegged to USD, so 1 NuBit (NBT) is 1 dollar.
My new cryptocurrency Shitbits is also pegged 1:1 to the USD. How many can I put you down for?

A coin that is designed to lose value along with the dollar. brilliant!

Wouldn't there be conflict of interest between GEMZ holders and Magma in future?
How so? Magma gets an ownership stake in the Getgems company, which will get revenue from a cut of the advertisisng on the Gems network. At least presumably, the company won't pull in a lot of revenue unless GEMZ are bought by advertisers to advertise on the network. Advertisers have to buy GEMZ to advertise anything on the network.
What possible conflict of interest do you see?

Ventures company like Magma are not interested into revenues or dividends but by the potential resell value of their part to much bigger company like Google and Facebook.

I really hope Daniel and his team never sell to a Google or FB however much money is offered to them.

1364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Welcome new Early Adopters on: January 14, 2015, 10:34:00 AM
If you are reading this right now and you do not buy bitcoins at this price, you cannot ever complain about early adopters again.

At this price, anyone can be an early adopter right now.

I don't disagree with you but can you really be smart and be an earlier adopter first time round?

You can't ever complain or say no one told you now.

'The real world doesn't operate like this' lololololololololololololololol

Try coming out of your parents basement sometimes kid.
Says who? A daytrading bloke just into this project to see a quick buck?
For me it doesn't matter how much you have invested.
Better someone that has 100 gems and approaching GetGems in a constructive way, then someone just looking for a profitable way out and on to the next coin.

Hear hear Gizfreak. As a matter of fact 80.000.000 constructive 1 GEM holders are worth just a little bit more then a hand full GEMS milionairs.
For you maybe, but not for me as my first goal would be building up a community that actual gets involved (and I mean not only as a bagholder).
If you got that act together, then bring on the millionairs, but as a secondary goal. Capice? Well I hope so.

I personally don't buy this whole we need a strong community thing that is popular these days. What you need is a great product and people who want to use that product. A good example of community people always talk about is NXT, but I find they have become an insular clique of programmers that many in the wider community find annoying. I don't see any need for people to do any work on the app and DEV side,it's competly covered by Getgems.

Yep, Gems I'm sorry doesnt particularly need a community. It needs 1m downloads and to make money for investors. the best advertisement for any coin is it makes lots of people rich, sorry but it's true. Then people flock to it and then a community is formed. Do you think anyone would of cared about bitcoin in the media if it hadn't made some people very rich?

But a community does not make a coin, I know that's the popular belief but I don't agree with it.
1368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Qora | 100% POS | Assets | Names | Voting | Open Source on: January 13, 2015, 07:43:32 PM
I understand zanzibar's frustration and I'd be feeling just as he does if I didn't have hope for what I see as possible.  However, I will mention what makes Qora VERY unique.  I won't explain how I will be using this to my advantage but, to my knowledge, this uniqueness does not exist within any other coin.

Actually, there are two simple concepts that Qora uses, that I personally find beneficial-- assets can be issued very cheaply AND assets can be traded for other assets.

Coins with Asset Exchanges is nothing new.  I believe Nxt was the first to implement such a feature and, whether copycats or not, more followed.  When QoraDev created his AE for his coin, he decided to add Asset-To-Asset trading.  I don't think this was a decision that was made on a whim.  Some may think this is a novel feature but I think that's because we're not thinking outside of the common paradigm of what digital, cryptographic assets are capable of representing.

To date, most crypto-assets that are worth mentioning are pseudo-stocks.  They are investments in project endeavours that hope to grow in success and worth.  There success is to trickle into these assets via dividends or high-priced buy backs, made by the asset issuer.

However, assets can be more than stocks.  They can be "tokens" intended to represent something of value.  As an example, let's say I have 1,000 silver, 1 Oz coins.  I could create an asset with 1,000 tokens, issue the asset and say if you buy these for x Qora, you are buying one of my coins.  If you would like me for to ship your coins to you, send your tokens to account X and send a message with your shipping address.  Otherwise, I'll hold the silver and you can sell the coins to someone else, at some other time.

I've now created an asset with direct, real world worth.  It's not really a "stock" in a company, but it is a digital asset that has a pegged value to a commonly traded commodity.  Now, let's say that people really like this idea and they trust that I'm being honest when I say that I have 1,00 ounces of silver.  People buy my silver tokens and hold them.  Some intend to never redeem them but, as the value of silver arises, they hope to sell the coins back to whomever has placed lower priced buy orders on the orderbook.

Though I hold the silver in my lockbox, people are trading my silver tokens as if they own the physical objects.  This now isn't a speculative market, easily manipulated by a 2-5 people who each own 1-5% of all of the available assets.  Anyone who sells these assets well below the going rate of silver is either seriously in need of money, or is foolishly trying to manipulate a crypto-asset that has ties to a real-world marketplace that they cannot control.  The asset is pegged to real-world silver because it is backed by real silver, and it is redeemable for the real thing.

Time passes and after seeing the wild success of my silver asset, I decide to issue another asset-- GOLD!  In this case, I am offering 1 Oz gold coins.  Realizing that this is a desirable service, I now create an asset with 100,000 tokens, each worth 1 Oz in Gold.  However, I only sell off what inventory I hold and I created an asset with a ridiculous amount because I never know how big this might grow! I can sell off 5-10 assets at a time and I can send and ship these coins as the requests come in.

I'm now a metal dealer, and it's all from a blockchain!  How cool is that!

I now have two assets, pegged to real world commodities.  People can buy and sell them from my "house book" and to others.  As time passes, a few traders may realize that, Aha!, they'd like to try and leverage a little profit by flipping back and forth between gold and silver.  They can do this in two ways-- sell metal #1 token for Qora, and then use the income to buy the metal #2 OR they could release a pair-trade for the other type of asset.  This skips losing money from having to work the spread of two order books.

Now we have people buying and selling Silver and Qora, Gold and Qora and Silver and... Gold! (Cue Burl Ives!)

This is a very, VERY basic example of how asset-to-asset trading is extremely important.  Let your imagination run wild with the possibilities and if you have the chops to manage a simple variation of what I've outlined above, then do it.  This is the type of thing that could get people moving into Qora.  You could easily create these types of assets in other coins, but there is no easy/fast way to move asset "value" to another asset, without selling off one asset to the base currency, to then buy up the order book of another asset.  It's inefficient, and after trading on AEs since the inception, I've found it's not cheap when you want to make big moves.

You really have to watch the markets, monitor your trades and take your time far more than should be necessary.

Asset-to-asset trading could be the future and Qora has a significant head start.  We just need to start finding meaningful ways of using this feature.

Looks like my posts are being deleted.  Anyway, I feel like your efforts are wasted here rlh.  Only a few coins will survive the BTC Armageddon, Qora will not be one of them.

Qora will piggyback GEMS success, trust me.
1369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: January 13, 2015, 07:38:07 PM
Just to give some positive news. The download counter went to 1000-5000 today. Which is pretty good going considering the stage we are at.

That's great considering the app is in the fine tuning stage and not 100% functional yet, also the main features haven't been released yet. Up to 10.000-50.000

I have been looking a bit at how social media apps similar to GEMS have grown. None exploded overnight it seems and many took 6 months at least to start getting popular.  The first stage is the most important I think. So many apps have 5,000 downloads and thats it, NXTTY is typical of that. I personally think the magic number is 50,000 because if we get 50,000 its really not a jump to 100,000 and then 500,000+.

If we get to 50,000 buy every single Gemz coin you possibly can, cause after that I believe its moon time.

BTER really had no reason to be involved in that little scam. They probably make as much as that scam did in a week or less. Its overall reputation is I think sound, they get the big vols more than any other exchange I know. When you have massive vol for a long time, thats about as much of a guarantee as you can get these days on exchanges.
Talking about volumes, you're right, they got massive volumes indeed. Talking about trust is another thing and that I don't really trust them, should be obvious I guess

Fair enough. I'm not pushing any exchange just wondered why the vol was so low on BTER compared to Polinex especially with some delays with Polinex, I trade on both. I've no had issues with BTER for the last year so I'm pretty trusting of them I guess.

Look at the vol on some of their top coins, one at 5,000 BTC!!!

Did they really need to be involved in a shitty little scam?

The gemz which i had sent to my poloniex account has been auto sent to another location. Please see below:

https://www.blockscan.com/address?q=1HnVVsX54QSaAe7VRCY78UbFQkZgX5PmzC

^^ Poloniex account

https://www.blockscan.com/address/1Po1oXMCWobE6kxWr8rJEP1SRq71JSD3t4

^^ Where it has been sent to.

I am not even sure how it can display on poloniex as pending for nearly two days and then do this without leaving any trace on poloniex.

Please help.

1Po1oXMCWobE6kxWr8rJEP1SRq71JSD3t4 belongs to poloniex, it's entered a hot wallet then sent to polo's main address. (normal behavior) It should be visible on exchange, since they've clearly been sent through the blockchain.  If they are not available in poloniex contact support-  as it is a problem on that end. the staff are excellent compared to many other exchanges and it should be resolved relatively quickly

Correct, that is Poloniex, nothing to do with our withdrawal system. Poloniex has been having delays with accepting deposits, as per previous posts. They have a hot wallet its sent to, then goes to another address. I waited 3.5 hours after about 4 support emails to Poloniex to get mine to clear through.

I'm not sure why so many people have focused on Polinex. Its an ok exchange but mainly its focused on trading and scammy coins IMO. They have had problems not updating wallets on some coins. Like I said its a good exchange but what I don't understand the focus on it but there is almost no vol on BTER which has a far better reputation IMO.

Anyone know something we don't? The vol on BTER just exploded. Insider buying? Maybe the AT developers know it's about to be released?

Hmm. How do I get my koinify Gems to my counterwallet? Or do I?

I have my koinify json backup. Do I just import that into counterwallet?

Well your gems wallet IS also a Counterparty wallet. To find it you either use your 12 word password to log into Counterparty wallet to find your actual address or simple hold on the wallet screen and paste the address, I used a notepad app on my android phone. So that is you address for your Gems and it's also accessoble in the Counterparty wallet, they are one and the same.

I recomend you do a test send to see your address is right etc.

I looked this thread over.  I read  the Q and A.  I haven't found the answer.

I have been told I will be considered one of the original Gems stakeholders because I bought in the sale.  But how does Gems know which account is me?

good question, probably through koinify accounts?

Seems logical but actually how does that link with your app wallet, cause you could in theory just sent your gems to an exchange and then later to a Gems wallet so nothing really connecting them.
1377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: January 12, 2015, 03:34:17 PM

You need to have your gemz on your getgems account / address(counterparty)

Then how does tracked activity / balans on the koinify accounts get merged or linked to the GetGems account and I'm not sure I want all GEMZ in the app while the dev. is still working on fine tuning everything.

I'm not the right person to comment on technical matters but I'm pretty sure the app is seperate to your actual Counterparty wallet. You need to log into your Counterparty wallet and make a new wallet if you want one seperate to the app one. You can even make an offline one.

Hi nextgencoin, thats the whole point, I have no problem creating a counterparty wallet but that puts my GEMS outside the Perky, Reward etc structure doesn't it and what happens to the accounts/GEMZ left on Koinify, will those be eligible for the "how much can we get for free" part?

I understand I feel the same but what i'm saying is the app could completely implode but your Gemz app wallet would still be sat there safely as a counterparty wallet. Like I said I don't know if this is gospel but thats my understanding. If you log into the counterparty desktop wallet you will better understand what i'm saying. The app is really a mirror of your counterparty wallet as I understand it.

I think the better way to think of it is we access our wallet through the app but there is no actual coins on your phone, that's worth remembering.

Really big fail on Koinify wallet.  Seriously, who in their organization thought a 24hr hold on withdrawal request was a good idea.  This is built on bitcoin, the same bitcoin that sends value all over the world with 10 minute confirmation times.

I still haven't received my email but from previous comments it doesn't matter anyways.  Wonder if they are manually sending the email and writing the address out by hand.

You're right this is a tragedy...
