Read this everyone. All about attention-economy.
GetGems is to Whatsapp, Synereo is to Facebook?

http://cointelegraph.com/news/113724/synereo-attention-economy-and-distributed-cloud-to-deliver-next-generation-social-networks

their crowdsale is about to start soon. GetGems' crowdsale ended last year. Although Synereo isn't competing with GetGems, this piece of news just made me happier that i have chosen to invest into GetGems last year. So far, there isn't any other IM app that has to do with attention-economy. GetGems was the 1st and it seems it is still the only one.  Grin even if Synereo is indirectly competing with GetGems on certain aspects [just saying in case], the GetGems Team are already busy working on it while Synereo has yet to start their crowdsale.

Now...aren't we all glad that GetGems was already on to this early on? YES!

I can't believe they didnt just lift their ideas off Getgems. Bitcoin publications need to use a bit more discernment when posting the blurb of a coin, a bit of journalist questioning of a story wouldnt be a bad idea either.

The latest update shows the push to just get the app into peoples hands i think. That the tough part cause once people actually start using crypto a light turns on and many are hooked. I remember when i first used FB which was when it was still pretty unknown. It kind of captures you with a simple email which wasnt that common back then as many sites are today. So you kind of fall into it and never manage to crawl out. I hope gems will be the same a kind of gateway drug to bitcoin. Cheesy  the addiction is gonna be seeing your coins add up as you use it and hopefully the value of the coins also increase. Once some kid sees his app made him 1000 bucks (early users) then you got them for life i recon.  Grin

Many have asked for a buy gems function which is great but many new to crypto users will be thinking how ti tirn gems to fiat or bitcoin so they can easily buy stuff with their gems.

*Typing on a phone

Is there a new update? What do you mean by push to get the app in people hands?

Maybe an option like shapeshift how it immediately converts cryptos, but it has a limit in how much you can convert, market with lower volume have lower limit, maybe there are other ways. But i think looking for regulatory aspects is more important, implementing such feature is manageable , if gems does it that it will be freaking boss.

I mean the various ways to help the app go viral like the url link and ability to invite all contacts easily.

Im pretty confident in the design. It was the pro design of the app and everything inc videos etc. That made me invest so much as well as the concept. I actually prefer the stuff that was original gems stuff before it hooked up with Telegram.

And of course, Getgems offers what facebook NEVER can, decentralization.  Users rewarded to grow the network and get paid by advertisers.  This is why Getgems is the best there is out there.

The only question is is the public smart enough to realize that or will the sheep continue to let facebook reap the rewards??

Im afraid most wont care and actually many would prefer centralised as they percieve it to be more safe. Its important to know what the marketing hook is for gems. Personally i think the bitcoin element needs to be played down and the privacy and profit share needs to be pushed. Wiper i noticed has a healthy amount of users after one year and all they did was make privacy a selling point but even great bitcoin wallets have very low download counts. I dont like the idea of deception but gems hopefully is giving crypto to people that never asked for it. Also some love the idea of being against the big guys. Pr needs to push gems as the little guy pushing back I think.....which it is.

I don't think this would of happened if Bitcoin never happened, it's very much a part of the Bitcoin without Bitcoin story that is evolving.

I disagree. Payment systems are evolving and bitcoin is a part or offshoot of that but these other fiat systems are a natural evolution too. They're just companies looking to find ways to get involved and take their cut. The payments market is quite lucrative as once your system or business is set up you dont have to do much and just sit back and watch how your tiny percentage of billions of transactions come rolling in and obviously corporations are realizing that and trying to get their slice of pie.

Well we can't know for sure but I accept the possibility. If anything if this normalises sending small payments directly to each other then the fact this is on a social network or a billion or so people it can't but be a major turning point, even if it fails. While It's a fact Bitcoin is not used by many people, Bitvoin actually the more appropriate technology for peer to peer transactions. I saw the news on FB today, Mark saying that new technology always brings good to society.....but apparently not Bitcoin?

It's a potential gateway later if popular at least, a rush for this market is inevitable for sure.

There was already a topic about this, it was moved to off-topic.
Use the search button.

I looked and didn't see the subject on this section. Possibly the biggest mainstream news for the past few months that directly influences Bitcoin and the debate on digital payments and you want it in off topic.

I don't see how it directly influences bitcoin. Implementing a fiat transfer option and bitcoin are two massively different things. Just because they've done this doesn't mean anything for bitcoin unfortunately.

Yes, just read this new, but it's nothing to do with Bitcoin, Facebook opens its payment system but it's not Bitcoin. That's might be the reason why the last topic about this had been moved to off-topic.

Just cause it's not got Bitcoin in the title doesnt mean it doesn't influence Bitcoin.

But it has to mention bitcoin or be bitcoin related for it to be in Bitcoin Discussion. Mcdonalds accepting ApplePay wouldn't be bitcoin news because you may argue that bitcoin could be next.

This section has been discussing if FB will take Bitcoin for months, the fact that it isn't at least in this implementation is as much news as it IS taking it, basically anyone saying it's irrelevant is saying the tons of threads on here related to FB were irrelevant too I guess.

I don't think this would of happened if Bitcoin never happened, it's very much a part of the Bitcoin without Bitcoin story that is evolving. like I said if this story should be next to the Obama believes in Aliens story then move the thread.

Has anyone seen the off topic section? It's just ridiculous. But hey if you want to bury an important story then go for it.

Please don't think I'm nitpicking just throwing it out there. I like the new wallet but something design wise doesn't quite fit with the previous work and while I'm no designer I think I know good design. The wallet I realized is influenced by the idea of skeuomorphism wow big word but basically design that is made to look kind of realistic, shadows,  reflections etc while the rest of the app clearly is based on the more fashionable flat style. In many ways while I like the new functions of the wallet now I miss the simple clean design which I think more flat. I'm not saying one is right but jumping between doesnt help unite a product look.

Plus keep to the same text fonts, I don't have the app in front of me now but I think the text font chnages around the app, could be wrong.

I guess I should of started a topic that was more relevant like 'Finish this sentence, I would sell my Bitcoin if...'

Inevitable I guess. I hope this has a positive effect on bringing messenger coins like Gems forward.

So FB is moving into the market. Don't know if this is good, bad or neutral for Gems.

I wonder if the url link will help bypass this.

Awesome, as nextgencoin mentioned the + person icon which is on the upper right in 'wallet' may confuse users that since its in wallet the + person icon is for sending a person gemz/btc. I think it would be better if its place would change to invite friends section or if not, making it clear that it is to invite telegram friends. I'm purely talking from a regular user perspective.

The reason it's there is because we are going to add the referral tracking at the top.

Alright then, then ignore my point. Looks great Smiley

It does, problem is on my phone it looks quite a bit different with the bitcoin logo cut off and the low res icons. I have a shitty old S2 phone cause I barely use it, I expect on my wifes it looks great but I guess things need to look good across many devices of varying quality. The OS is pretty much up to date.

notice the soft images of the icons.

heres the text cut off issue.

Here the address gets chopped off.

again the soft icons, noticably less sharp than the text on the top.

I didn't ever use a QR code but from a visual design perspective I agree with the sentiment of keeping it looking simple, having a picture or icon over the QR code looks messy to my Jonathan ive design loving eyes. But you guys need to follow your instincts not just feedback. I personally like the idea of being simple and graphic but I wonder if some text in the right places could help like pasting an address for example or just acting a bit more like a bitocin android wallet with some boxes and guidlines etc. basically I mean something more like this:

http://www.coinspeaker.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/apple-approves-bitwallet-ios-app-01.jpg

Not everywhere but on the more serious practical sending pages of the app, I think guidlines, text, boxes etc give confidence to users when sending money.

Good decision regarding currency as a setting.

In the end you guys need to follow your own vision for the app.

I feel bad for adding all these possible bugs but we got to get it right.

I don't know if its just me but sometimes when I open the app and open the wallet the balance pops up and disapears almost instantly after.

Annnnnd I'm not seeing all the currencies, I'm getting dollars, Yen, Euros.....so no GBP, CAD etc..
1097  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: March 16, 2015, 12:51:46 PM
Sweet update, the wallet looks awesome and some very useful features have been added.
Further improvements:

- When i click on 'send to address' it only shows only the $ amount, when i change currency to euro in wallet section then it should show euro in 'send to address' section.

- An update alert is definitely needed.

- Someone else mentioned a feature to buy btc/gemz from the app, strongly agree.

For the rest you guys are doing a great job, the qr scanner just made this the most versatile wallet with real world purposes, even better than mycelium and others. Keep up the good work.

On a side note, in wallet on the right upper side there is a inviting logo with a + sign, when i click on it it says 0/0 members and no contacts yet, anyone knows how this option works?

I wondered the same thing, I thought it was for searching contacts and sending people coins??? Something doesn't quite gel in terms of sending in the wallet imo. The experience is this: you press the wallet thinking that is to send out of the wallet ......so ok you have the option to put an amount but who are you sending to? (Which im not a fan of honestly, I like to see who i'm sending to at all times and for the dummy user like myself I forget who i'm even sending to potentially) The link on the top of page just takes you back out to the wallet and like you said the +(person icon) leads to nothing?

Is this a funtion that hasn't maybe been implemented fully YET?

Once this and the iOS app is polished and ready I really can't see why it won't go violently viral.
1099  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: March 16, 2015, 08:27:47 AM
Also the icons to my eyes on the wallet look a bit low resolution and pixilated, anyone else think so? Plus do you need to cut off the Bitcoin logo on the wallet? I'm guessing it was the best option possible. I think you guys are very talented but also your team as it grows might benefit from a visual designer who can pull tech and functions together.

Later I guess you know you are going to need an update app alert inside the app otherwise people will miss all these new developing functions.

which 'icons'? those in the wallet? looks fine to me on my Sony Xperia SP smartphone. didn't give me the 'low quality' impression and i don't think its bad either. looks fine. maybe not so on a Tablet like iPad due to their bigger screens, etc. may want to double check on this on the iPad. the only icon (or rather, image) that did look bad was the one at the QR Code screen. the QR code picture and the Gems picture both looks like it got stretched vertically. not good. GetGems Team...improve the image please. Thanks.

'cut off the bitcoin logo on the wallet'? you mean the reflection?

+1 on the update app alert. a must have. may i suggest putting it somewhere on the left side where the menu is. or if its possible, make it appear at the bottom left hand corner no matter where you go while using GetGems. its one corner that doesn't seem to be in used at all. So that it won't be so close to other buttons. Also, don't let it just be an alert. make it a shortcut to GooglePlay so that users can conveniently and quickly update the GetGems app. Tap on it and a message appears "Update GetGems?" with "Yes", "No" buttons.

Often issues arise cause of differnt versions of android and different phones. I have an old Galaxy S2. The little icons on the wallet page the three little ones and I think the fb, Twitter links seem low res to me too, I can actually see pixels around the edge. yeah on my phone the actual Bitcoin logo has the top part cropped off. like I said differnt phones etc do different things, I'm up to date on the operating system though.

Yeah something seems wrong with the QR code page but I haven't used a QR ever so I don't really know.
1100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: March 16, 2015, 05:33:30 AM
Now I have actually played with it I see the app has changed a lot. Generally in a good way. Small things still, on my phone at least 'new broadcast list' is cut off due to the length. Also I think the wallet looks pretty great and more professional but I hope it doesn't end up too complicated and over down with features long term, knowing when to stop adding features I think is important. Also the icons to my eyes on the wallet look a bit low resolution and pixilated, anyone else think so? Plus do you need to cut off the Bitcoin logo on the wallet? I'm also unclear how I could send BTC or gems to a user from the wallet, I can click an amount of coins but the top right icon that seems like it should be to send to a certain person is related to inviting someone not paying them. I guess you are planning on only paying though chat?

Just wanted to mention possible tweaks though generally it's looking great!
