1281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: January 31, 2015, 06:25:09 PM
It does seem that GetGems is down right now as I am unable to see my wallet and others are reporting the same thing here and on reddit. Wonder what is up?
They're on it.    https://twitter.com/getgemsorg/status/560833882765807616
This is pure conjecture but i'm not surprised the Android app is a bit buggy cause the focus before the Telegram tie-up was always on the iOS and Android would come months later. They must of pulled some all-nighters to push the Android out so quickly. The team have tons of money and real professional guidance and backing now to hopefully produce a highly polished app over the coming weeks/months.

The problem with the stability issues is that we are currently using counterparty API directly.
This is a bad solution, as we depend on their stability (which isn't very good as they change the code very often without backward compatibility).

We are setting up our own federated counterparty node to make sure that protocol changes don't break our mechanisms with proper testing->staging->production cycle and automated deployments (CI). We apologise that it's taking a big longer than expected but its the best long term solution.

I was reading through some of your past posts earlier and thought if Gems is thrown off everytime Counterparty changes then Gems could have long term problems unless it had a good relationship with them so they could pre warn them. It seems like this technical workaround is necessary. later if you have thousands of users you simply can't have this kind of instability. So yeah long term stability is what we have to have.

Personally I'm not sweating small errors at this point, Gems is a work in progress, just report issues and I'm sure things will be restored, your coins are safe.
1284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I told you so... on: January 30, 2015, 07:19:43 PM
I think now, most of you are ready to form a big long line to wait for your chance to kiss my ass.

Read 'em and weep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2mJfjPiv20

What are you - a retard?!!!

For someone who supports Gold you sure don't seem to understand why Bitcoin has value, hell even Mike Maloney Mr Gold and Silver supports Bitcoin. Your arguments against Bitcoin are exactly the same as is given against Gold which you seem to support. Bitcoin shares every single property Gold has in terms of usage but is much more transportable. Whats not to like? Plus can I suggest Radio rather than Vloging...you got the face for it.

*Please can someone who knows how rip a few of this goons clips. They are gonna be priceless in years to come. Classics on the scale of the Internet or Rock and Roll will never catch on.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I do appreciate it. Those people who are berating me for wanting to get rich quick, I don't understand where you are coming from. Who doesn't want to get rich quick?

I think it was more they thought you expressed the idea that you were entitled to be rich due to your effort. Tell that to millions of poor Africans who I'm sure very hard as well.

Anyway on the positive look into Gems Messenger I believe its going to be MASSIVE potentially bigger than Bitcoin.
1286  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regret and depression on: January 30, 2015, 01:03:55 PM
If anyone should have become an overnight millionaire it should have been me. I've been involved in virtual economies for many years now (mmorpg gold exchanges) and if anyone should have had the foresight to become an early adopter of bitcoin it should have been me but instead I was wasting my time fucking around with virtual gold. I wake up every morning feeling depressed.
That's attitude with wich you will never archieve anything in your pathetic life as your way of thinking is really retarded. I knew about it too, i even had some coins but i spent them, who cares fuck it that's life, bitter and sour.

Nice advice but your the guy who completely gave up on Gems the next big thing today cause you couldn't download the app.
1287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: killer app idea :) on: January 30, 2015, 12:56:42 PM
Isn't there already a coin that mirrors the value of the Dollar? I can't remember its name right now, but it exists.

Yes Bitcoin is a fast way to transfer money but I think seeing Bitcoin as a better Paypal is seriously flawed PR focus for Bitcoin. People should be pushing the idea of Bitcoin being sound money due to its scarcity. The only reason its volatile is cause there are so few actual users of it. All currencies are volitile but once you have 100 million people using one it finds its value pretty fast and is stable. I personally think we need to see Bitcoin in the 10's of thousands before we start to see 'stability'.

@Daniel Peled. I wouldn't bother post on other coin threads, you were civil and polite and truthful but I think it's a bad idea. Let's others in community do the dirty work for you if nessecary. Personally I wouldn't even bother answering other coins veiled attacks most of the time anyway.
1289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Well I guess we will have to make the UK banking system illegal. on: January 29, 2015, 06:58:39 PM
The banking industry is full of scammers and druggers, but of course its the status quo so nothing will ever change.

Bitcoin happened!!!!!
1290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Well I guess we will have to make the UK banking system illegal. on: January 29, 2015, 06:57:45 PM
The bankers are trying to cover their own tracks and flip the blame on Bitcoin.

Well I would say Bitcoin is a threat systemically to the system they rely on but yeah I agree.
1291  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regret and depression on: January 29, 2015, 06:55:05 PM
Its easy to should of could of would of in hindsight. The skill is seeing the future potential now. The other poster is right no one has a right to be a millionaire but I'm going to help you have another bite of the cookie.

I worry that stupidity is not a one time thing though and that means you wont see this coins potential either. Personally I bet the farm on it.

1292  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Well I guess we will have to make the UK banking system illegal. on: January 29, 2015, 06:43:32 PM
Well by the logic put on Bitcoin we need to arrest a lot of people and shut down any banks found to of been part of laundering drugs etc. ie Most of them.

I wish Sendchat luck and if I thought it was a better project then Gems I would be invested in them not Gems. But honestly it has very little going for it, firstly its late to the party has none of the innovations planned like the airdrop and the advertising platform which is why Gems is interesting in the first place. If you want an app that simply sends coins then you always have NXTTY. Sendchat last time I looked had only raised about 20 BTC  for its crowdsale, the interest isnt there. And this chart is possibly the most childish thing I have ever seen. It lies, plus its clearly created to make it look like the few things sendchat does that Gems doesn't and probably wont ever want to look like Gems is somehow lacking in features. Its kind of pathetic. Possibly the nail in the coffin of Sendchats chances actually.

Clearly people haven't heard of the Gems Messaging app. If you don't you soon will...
1296  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase - Regulated & Licenced US Bitcoin exchange - Good or Bad? on: January 27, 2015, 08:24:32 PM
It's really good........for weeding out the people who should never of been involved in Bitcoin and those who understand regulation is why Bitcoin exists....ie to avoid it. Regulation simply mean the governmnt can take your currency that you simply wanted to use as an exchange of value between private individuals away or what most people understand as Tax. Some people will beg their masters to beat them more...it's a perverse psychology but it's true.
1297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How significant will Death be to the price of Bitcoin? on: January 26, 2015, 02:54:39 PM
What if when whales die, they decide to not give their sons and families their Bitcoin wallets? these would be lost forever in time. Sometimes it happens now that parents are mad with sons and do not give them inheritance, except the money doesnt get lost forever lol.

I forsee a lot of deathbed begging for passwords.
1298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How significant will Death be to the price of Bitcoin? on: January 26, 2015, 02:53:01 PM
Stating the obvious but it's not that BItcon can't be divided up, what I'm saying is overall supply will decline due to deaths and loss, more significantly than we think. I wouldn't think its crazy to say we might lose 1-3% in this way annually, that figure is plucked from my butt but still I'm betting it's significant.

My point is this gives Bitcoin a natural price increase all other factors equal.

The real problem with the coins burnt/lost is the uncertainty of whether the coins lost are really lost or just temporarily inactive.

Imagine what happens when 10,50,100 years from now there are only ~BTC100k bitcoins in circulation (not a problem as it can be infinitely divided), and then you manage to recover the priv key to the wallet (say your deceased grandpa's) containing BTC50k, which everyone considered "lost coins".

The very first moment you would make any withdrawal from that wallet, you will cause a massive panic and crash the market.

I'm not that much worried about the lost coins (due to death etc), I'm sure there will be a lot of solutions in the near future. But I'm slightly concerned about ideas such as Proof-of-Burn used in OpenBazaar:

https://blog.openbazaar.org/proof-of-burn-and-reputation-pledges/

Many are still missing my point. It's a good thing. I mean there is no way coins won't be lost over time so it's hardwired in that Bitcoins overall supply will decrease. It's accepted with fiat that a lot of coins and notes are lost, destroyed etc but are replaced even if the money supply is not increased, but Bitcoin is a one way street, it will be interesting if Bitcoin did get a much more global acceptance what would happen. It doesn't matter if we end up with one Bitcoin and its divided up into billions the point is you can't slice a pizza more times and get more pizza which is what is being expressed by some here (face palm). Like I said  using compound interest as a model even a few percent lost or destroyed each year is very significant to the supply. And it will grow even more significant as mining becomes harder and less fruitful.

Looking at a cliqued idea that an ounce of Gold or whatever it is would buy a decent suit 100 years ago and today an ounce would buy the same today. With Bitcoin 1 BTC even if the 'value' didnt increase would buy 100 suits Just for example in theory when before it bought 1. In that sense Bitcoin is super fuel injected Gold, the perfect store of capital.
1299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who cares if Bitcoin goes mainstream? on: January 26, 2015, 02:02:45 PM
I honestly don't know why people suggest we can't buy much with Bitcoin. Especially easy if you live in North America.

http://www.overstock.com

But most people don't live in North America.

I live in Mexico (still North America, but still not the USA). I can't do much here yet.

You are closer than I am, international shipping is your friend. I dont think it's shameful to convert to fiat before you buy stuff.
1300  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who cares if Bitcoin goes mainstream? on: January 26, 2015, 01:59:56 PM
@nextgencoin
I meant what i posted as a metaphora. But then my statement is true if you think of it in global terms. Sure bitcoin is going places. But wouldn't you want to see how far it can really go? Smiley

Actually my honest belief is Bitcoin will go 'mainstream' at some point but it will be opposed at every point of the journey. I just wish Bitcoin leaders were a bit more confident about it eventually taking over everything like a good virus. So we can get to that stage in a cool way with a swagger or slightly begging to be let into the party.

The fact is this, the American dollar and financial system simply can't stand strong forever and when that's clear to mom and pop and that Bitcoin is unaffected or has benefitted from it then you will struggle to hold back Bitcoin even if you wanted to.
