1121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block chain technology for USD/Euro/Etc being developed by IBM and central banks on: March 13, 2015, 07:34:38 PM
The very simple problem is going to be "corruption".

How are they going to convince anyone that their system isn't corrupt?

Without using an acceptable non-centralised solution (which is pretty much just Bitcoin at the moment) you simply can't trust it.

So you can be much more efficient than Bitcoin but you lose all credibility in doing so (thus even trying to make that a "sales point" looks weak).

If central banks are involved why would anyone even think it won't be corrupt. The FED at its core is by definition a corruption of sound money.

I'm afraid this is exactly what I expected the FED would do.
1122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is this bad or good news? on: March 13, 2015, 06:56:30 PM
Good news that publicity for bitcoin is always good no matter what. And there are not really bad news here, nothing we already didn't know.
While it is natural that bitcoin idea is attractive and big companies and governments are carefully observing it. But they can't really do something to stop bitcoin now, at least not openly, if IBM create their own 'bitcoin' it would be just considered 'corporate coin' and people do not like things like that.

Ypu miss one important fact and that is most people have no idea how the monetary system is set up and why Bitcoin is different to say a government backed coin that you can print/make more of. I can see the news reports now saying this is the new safe digital currency, safe because we can control it not like Bitcoin which is too unstable etc etc.

I started a thread some time back to discuss what the authorities would probably do as Bitcoin becomes a threat. One of the obvious ones was for the government to make a fiat type coin they can control.....and here we are.

What's the saying if you can't beat them join them. Well they just did. Sorry if this sounds insulting but your point that it has positive influence on the price is like saying I want to make a few bucks but I don't care about the life my future children and family will live in.
1123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BLYTHE MASTERS, ex-derivative pioneer, just joined a BTC start-up on: March 11, 2015, 09:03:44 AM
"anyone know if it could in theory be done?"

Just create promises to pay on demand, maybe called these Bitcoin Reserve Notes, and then create institutions that recognise all gains immediately while hiding losses for years. What to call these? Magic the Gathering is already taken, I hear, maybe Biankts?

But I wonder if it can push the price of Bitcoin down like deriveratives do to Gold. I mean if the price of real Bitcoin on the excnages are one price and the eft is vastly different then no one will take it seriously. With Gold there is enough manipulation on the offical excnages like the Comex that no one realy can determine real market value.

1125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BLYTHE MASTERS, ex-derivative pioneer, just joined a BTC start-up on: March 11, 2015, 08:22:21 AM
...

Ick.  Slimy derivatives pioneer at JP Morgan (Enron electricity sleaze w/ California, possible silver market manipulation, etc.) just joined Digital Asset Holdings:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-10/bitcoin-default-swaps-blythe-masters-joins-bitcoin-startup

She is a smart but loathesome person, but might be good (?, maybe not) for Bitcoin.  Bitcoin derivatives coming?

EDIT: Note fourth comment about her polluting the blockchain...

Seems to me once you have a deriverative then you can manipulate the price, this is what she is infamous for with Gold and other commodities. Assume the worst for her intentions. How well you can actually manipulate the price is probably up for debate, anyone know if it could in theory be done?
1126  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: very basic bitcoin news overview site, feedback welcome on: March 11, 2015, 08:18:58 AM
Looks good, I wonder if you could cut the number of links down seems a bit too much for me, prioritise bigger stories. Maybe have a most popular/trending section.

Don't need to stop at one, many people could make some. One which would be good is a Bitcoin app review of the best Bitcoin related apps on the market.

Gems not enough downloads? I have easy steps for you to contribute to the network!!  Grin fun fun fun

1 - Go to your friend(s) or family for a so called "visit" ... a quick "Hi how u doing?" should suffice
2 - Complement them about their nice phones ... chitchat
3-  Ask if you could take a look at their phones ... (Now its time you be prepared!! muahahaha)
4- Quickly go to playstore and download/install getgems!!! fast fast!!!! hehehe ... save the picture of codes on their sdcards ..
5- Give them the phone back and send them a message via getgems app ... (send the link to the intro movie about gems, so they have some clue regarding its extra features)
6- Congratulations!!! you just forced someone into the network Smiley yeey

Now you can talk about gems messenger... otherwise its the same old conversations... sports, cars, politics etc hehe

I have a good way to get users, I mean appart from Ninja downloading. I have downloaded most apps from recomended blogs or youtube videos. All somone needs to do if they have the skills is to make a youtube clip with say top 10 messengers apps etc and slip GetGems into the list. Something like this, they get a ton of hits. Getgems is an app just waiting to go viral.

Is that a bug on coinmarketcap? getgems jumped like 10 places.

Seems so cause on Polinex Gems is dropping quite badly in low vol.

The social messaging app that pays? Pays who? Up until now it's looks like I paid during the ICO.
I must say that I was expecting to see a transparant development (especially after the email contact I had with Daniel), but atm I feel like being used to pay for the dream of somebody else.
Sorry to say, but for me transparancy doesn't mean an update every few weeks or so.

Clearly if you know the project you will know the team is hard at work getting the iOS and Airdrop out, until then you shoudn't expect them to waste their time on PR if it cuts into the development.

Beyond that its very simple, if you believe in the project you count yourself lucky cause you can buy cheaply at the moment and if you don't then sell your tokens. Beyond that I'm pretty sure no one cares what you do.
1131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: March 08, 2015, 01:05:54 PM
Gems not being mentioned in that article is a serious oversight.

I keep repeating it but I hope GEMS PR puts a big focus on the advertising model that basically gives profits back to the users, that concept alone could revolutionise the Internet let alone chat.

I do also agree we need to get moving quickly I wish devlopment updates had at least a rough timescale for iOS and Airdrop?
1132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: March 07, 2015, 03:33:40 AM
what do you guys think about the Wiper app and its implementation of Bitcoin? it might be some competition for GetGems in terms of sending cryptos.

Wiper just has a higher user base, apart from that GetGems is the way to go. You can only use Wiper if you attach your fb or email account to it, i don't like to use a messenger with my Facebook account, it also has no end to end encryption and no further info on crypto implementation details another reason for me not to store my bitcoin on it.

GetGems sends bitcoin easier than Wiper too and supports Bits aswell with being Telegram compatible and has gif support, im not even talking about its upcoming reward and advertisement model. Features wise GetGems is way ahead but Wiper is more established and has more users. Also sending crypto in app is one thing but buying them is another thing which i don't know if these non tech wiper users have the incentive to do. I hope GetGems makes it easy through an option to buy gemz/btc.

This just shows how hot this space is. The more normal it becomes for people to use crypto the better. Ive said it before but sending coins is not the unique selling point of
Gems but the profit share and advertising model. There will be loads of coin texting apps in the coming years but replicating gems is unlikely for big players and will not be first to market for a new altcoin even if it can pull it off.
1133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's year 2050 and Bitcoin is the world currency... on: March 05, 2015, 07:51:26 AM
Statistically at some point all the bitcoins/bits will be lost.  Shocked

So there will be a time in history that not one bit will be lost? Sure it will take many many years but it will happen at some point.

So you're saying there will be a time in history when not one person will backup their private keys?

You're looking at some bitcoins being lost over time, which you think will eventually add up to all bitcoins.  But that would require 100% of all Bitcoin users to lose 100% of their coins.

No it wouldn't it would require Bitcoin users to lose 1% of of all Bitcoin annually for 100 years or even .1% of coins in 1000 years. I'm not saying it's gonna happen anytime soon, I'm saying EVENTUALY there is a time all coins would be lost. I said nothing about being concerned about it, I'm just stating a fact.

I personally believe all economies should really be deflationary. I mean the effort or cost to make a car should be decreasing generally over time as companies become more an more efficient/better at making the 'same' product. Sadly we have been feed the lie for the last hundred years that inflation is the norm. Bitcoin returns us to a defaltionary cycle. The only products that's should increase in price should be scarce resources or products using scarce resources.

Ps. Don't believe the bullshit that we are feed that deflation leads to people putting off purchases, with gas being a bit cheaper for most of us in the last 6 months did anyone buy less gas for their cars? In fact I personally probably bought more.

So there was a 19 btc worth of gemz buy at 0.000057, do you think he got himself a good deal?

Once iOS, QR-code (Pay & Receive) and additional multi-sig address link to account are up and running he'll or she'll be laughing his/her arse off at 57 even if BTC keeps its uptrend.

What do u mean by multi-sig address link to account? Can you give an example using getgems?

Well, as was suggested in earlier road map ideas, large GEMZ holders would probably not want to keep all GEMZ on the "HOT" address, the the dev team intends to allow for an additional address to be added, this address could be assiged as the address used in award calculation and other perks which are balance related. I'm not comfortable with just another counterparty address and would like this address to make use of counterwallet multi-sig functionality (once they get that to work at counterparty), so GetGems would have to be able to recognize balances on counterparty multi-sig format addresses.

Is Counterparty really that weak? Seems to me it's a safe as any other bitcoin wallet possibly more. And my 'hot' wallet doesent seem that weak either. I would have to lose my phone and not know I lost it, and someone understand GEMS know my PIN number or my long address password, so if you don't have your password on your phone it's almost impossible to know your pin in a few attempts and I beleive it shuts down after a few?
1138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Android Pay. on: March 04, 2015, 08:58:00 AM
Silly question... but why doesn't someone ask google if they plan on adding btc?

Maybe I misunderstood but I thought the point is Android pay is going to be open source api. I therfore thought it's not about Android accepting Bitcoin but about someone building Bitcoin into Android pay.
1139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / My BTER balance just went to zero, anyone else? on: March 03, 2015, 07:22:31 PM
I had about 4 BTCs worth of altcoins on BTER, in theory they should be safe cause what was stolen was BTC. My account has been showing my balance and I was just waiting to withdrawl. Now I see BTER is going to keep going as an excnage but my balance has gone to zero! Hopefully a glitch?

Edit: it just popped back up.
1140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin moons... alt-coins will die. on: March 03, 2015, 07:19:25 PM
Hear me loud and clear. Gems when it releases its IOS and airdrop will moon far more than anyone even dared to dream.
