1521  Economy / Economics / Re: US Gov't Phasing out the PENNY and NICKEL in 2013 on: December 06, 2012, 04:49:56 AM
even though the news was fake it seems it still is a good investment to hoard pre-1982 pennies (95% copper 5% zinc)...
1522  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] TENGA DEEP THROAT CUP on: December 06, 2012, 03:41:01 AM
i had to google what a "deep throat cup" was, figured it would be something like a "neti pot"...

sounds cool but i don't enjoy the prospect of having one more object to clean and maintain in my life
1523  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Breakthrough in understanding reality (The Farsight Institute) on: December 06, 2012, 03:30:56 AM
I'll be far more interested in this if:
a) He performs, under controlled conditions, an actual experiment that confirms his theory.
b) His results are independently confirmed by other researchers.

Until then, this is not science. It's just one man's imagination, aided by a partial knowledge of quantum mechanics.

OTOH if he's able to perform an experiment successfully (under controlled conditions) the results of which cannot be explained by other known phenomena and especially if other researchers can duplicate his results, then I'll change my mind.

I haven't watched this video but you should know that Controlled Remote Viewing has been confirmed in environments by Ingo Swann and others at the Stanford Research Institute during the 1970s if i recall correctly.

1524  Economy / Goods / [WTS] 1 lb roasted Ethiopia Yirgacheffe for 1 BTC on: December 05, 2012, 05:52:18 PM
Here we have a delicious lb of whole roasted Ethiopia Yirgacheffe coffee beans from Bow Truss Roasters in Chicago, IL.  The bag is still sealed and was roasted on November 28 2012.  The photo of the whole beans is indeed what the product looks like.

Bow Truss describes it as: "Wonderfully complex with a base of honey and chocolate, overlaid with a delicate citrus acidity and floral characteristic."  I find this coffee to be of excellent quality and I would like to share it with the bitcoin community.

Does playback software make a difference in audio quality? (Mac)

I have spent some time using Amarra with iTunes, some people say it is better:

check this thread out:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/539740/mac-os-x-music-players-alternatives-to-itunes

I think the most important part of the signal chain is your DAC...I noticed a huge difference when using an outboard DAC connected via the macbook's optical out (Cambridge Audio DACMagic).
1528  Other / Off-topic / Re: Questions for audiophiles on: October 11, 2012, 05:29:58 PM
Look. Why don't we turn this into a multi million dollar (/BTC) business right away?

Cut the desperate looking for help and salvation in niches of the internet and offer the service ourselves.

QUESTION:
Would you pay for music (in BTC) if it were offered as a FLAC download? Would you if it paid the artists directly? Would you if the music was free to download and copy regardless?

There's some FLAC audio near where I am.

I would pay for FLAC.

1531  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to buy bitcoins anonymously on: October 01, 2012, 01:21:12 AM
that's the whole point of BC anyway right?
Why is it so hard to do?
MtGox accepts Dwolla, but Dwolla wants my bank account and address -- um, no thx.
Bitmarket.eu needs you to prove yourself.

I buy prepaid credit cards at the mall, and I wish to use these to buy bitcoins.
I am willing to pay a premium, and I am willing to wait for an escrow to eliminate the possibility
of "chargebacks".  Is there no service where this is possible?

Thanks,

ME

I frequently send cash in mail (usps) to several people on bitcoin otc for BTC.  Look for people with a good rating, among other scrutinizing factors.  Have yet to have any issue, thankfully.   You may also find people there that will sell for less than Mt Gox for large orders.

Also, once you get a rating up on OTC you may find people there that want to buy your prepaid credit cards for BTC.

1537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Mac OSX users, what version are you running? on: September 21, 2012, 12:52:20 AM
Any reason you don't want to run the latest Xcode that Apple provides for free in the App Store?
Probably not so much these days - used to be that some things didn't support Xcode 4.  Also you need Xcode 3 to build for old OS X versions.

Now, we may be getting to the point where everyone starts moving to Xcode 4 and dropping OS X 10.5 support - that's presumably the reason behind Gavin's question.  But, the fact that Gavin is asking this question means, I think, that like many open source projects Bitcoin is currently still building with Xcode 3.  That's as good a reason for me as any to stay with 10.6 so I can still use Xcode 3. (Xcode 3 won't run on 10.7.)

You can always setup dual boot (Mountain Lion & Snow Leopard) if you want to run older software.
Because repartitioning my disk would be a pain.  And it's a laptop so adding an additional disk isn't really an option.

You can remove the optical drive and put another HD in...
1538  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What would you do with a million dollars worth of customer data? on: September 17, 2012, 04:40:38 PM
Start a competitor to your past employer with the data as seed data. Never sell it. Never share it.

People are getting worked up over the ethics of this data. Every sales person in the world takes their client list with them when they leave or are fired from their employer. Sales people are poached by competitors solely because they have know the client list of the competition. Sales, biz dev, press officers, CxOs are all poached by competitors for their data and connections. The business world is a brutal place when you see it from the executive level. Ethics quickly go out the window when you deal with 8+ figure revenues and profits.

Take them across the street and sell them to Jerry Graff.

I need the Glengarry leads!
