1141  Economy / Service Discussion / Beware using Localbitcoins SMS! on: May 23, 2014, 08:47:05 PM
I had to cancel a cash deal today because I sent SMS release code and did not receive any reply. Had no other way of accessing the site on me.

Don't 100% trust using Localbitcoins SMS - they are having SMS delays of at least 30-40 minutes.
1142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: pet peeve: when people send bitcoins with NO TX FEE on: May 23, 2014, 05:02:41 PM
and now i'm stuck waiting an indefinite amount of time waiting for a gracious miner that will add this transaction to a block for no fee.

cmon its only 0.0001 BTC!

The miners are just a bunch of greedy bastards.  Like that extra 0.0001 BTC on top of the 25 BTC block reward really makes a difference.

The fee is there to stop spam dust transactions from clogging the network, from what I recall.

I'm just complaining about the wait time.
1143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: pet peeve: when people send bitcoins with NO TX FEE on: May 23, 2014, 04:49:22 PM
Don't worry too much. I have heard about certain (zero tx fee) transactions, where it took almost 48 hours for them to get confirmed. So... in the end the transaction will get confirmed... but it is going to take a lot of time.

I know, it is more the uncertain nature of waiting that bugs me.  I don't need the coins to spend right away, but if it was a critical situation like that I'd be annoyed. Still, I guess it's a lot better than using a bank.
1144  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin transfer fees? on: May 23, 2014, 02:51:23 PM
First of all I'm no computer wizz so maybe its something I'm doing wrong but I always read articles that say it only costs a tiny percentage to send bitcoins, today I sent $0.05 from my blockchain wallet to a different wallet I have just as a test and it cost me $0.11 in fees, WTF, and I thought banks were ripping me off.

read up on http://bitcoinfees.com/

the default transaction fee is 0.0001 BTC (0.1 mBTC) so that's about 5 cents. if there are a lot of small inputs from many addresses, the size of the transaction will be larger, thus requiring a higher fee than usual.

yes this is a problem with bitcoin, it becomes difficult to send microtransactions.

1145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Better way to do paper wallets? on: May 23, 2014, 02:33:51 PM
Here's what I do for cold storage, this method has proven secure for me for over 1 year (no lost coins)

1. download the latest copy of Tails (https://tails.boum.org/) and burn a live DVD
2. boot computer from Tails
3. go to https://bitaddress.org, load page
4. disable internet connection
5. generate paper wallets (I recommend using BIP38 encryption - just make sure you will always REMEMBER THE PASSWORD)
6. print
7. shutdown computer

And there you have it, fresh private keys that exist nowhere else but the piece of paper in front of you.

1147  Economy / Speculation / Re: Timeline over the next 2 months on: May 23, 2014, 01:13:51 PM
I agree with Elwar, perhaps not in the exact time frame but the sentiment is there.

In August 2013 everyone here was speculating how high the next bubble would go, when the reversal was confirmed - estimates from $400 to $600 were common but at the time seemed unrealistic. We all know what happened.

This shows us that it only takes a few months of the right conditions for new market participants to come in and start pumping. I wish chodpaba would come back, this was a smart person that posted projections about the reversal trend, then they deleted all their posts.
1148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Under 18 Bitcoin Trading on: May 23, 2014, 04:22:55 AM
Hello all, I was wondering if I would get denied when I try to verify my account at Bitstamp or Kraken because I'm only 17. And what is the easiest way to buy BTC under 18?

Localbitcoins is one option if there are sellers in your area but most of them charge at least 4-5% fees

If you're in the US, I'm pretty sure Coinbase does not even ask your age when you sign up for an account, just provide bank account info and verify, then buy BTC! 1% fee there.

1149  Economy / Speculation / Re: [TWEET] Max Keiser: Buy Bitcoin Until Your Hands Bleed on: May 22, 2014, 05:34:06 PM
Just saw a tweet from Tuesday before the price surge where Max Keiser told his Twitter followers to buy Bitcoin until their hands bleed.

Is this what's causing the BTC and MAX prices to increase recently?

Max Keiser was just pointing out what was clear for anyone to see.

Prices goes up because the downtrend was losing steam, weak hands shaken, bitcoin infrastructure still growing. Volume dropped and volatility dropped, the price could have shot down again but the market said enough!

1151  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cam sites? on: May 21, 2014, 05:05:44 PM
Are there any bitcoin cam sites? I remember hearing about cam4btc.com but it doesn't seem to be loading for me. Are there any others?

there isn't much, i think the most popular place is http://www.reddit.com/r/GirlsGoneBitcoin

if someone were to create a bitcoin crowd funded porn site i think it would be popular.
1152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your dream gift?(I might get one for you) on: May 21, 2014, 04:50:09 PM

1153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are girls using Bitcoins? on: May 21, 2014, 04:46:46 PM

1154  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin will drop to $1 on: May 21, 2014, 04:40:48 PM
There's no way it could possibly drop to $1 because there aren't enough. At the price of $1 everyone would want to buy, easily $21 million dollars worth.
1155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your dream gift?(I might get one for you) on: May 21, 2014, 04:38:37 PM
you should buy pizza for as many people have replied to this thread!

lets say $20/pizza that's 22.5 pizzas

what's he going to do, buy pizzas, take the slices and put them in a box for airmail? no offense to OP, but if he sent me his stale pizza, i probably wouldn't eat it.

he could buy gyft cards for papa johns pizza. then everyone orders pizza at the same time, we have one big pizza party all over the world.

LOL

LOL because its the best idea on this thread!

it can coincide with the canonical bitcoin pizza transaction - make it a new international holiday!

source: everyone loves pizza

1159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quick poll: best way to store your bitcoins. How you store? on: May 20, 2014, 03:19:17 AM
I store my bitcoins in a pepper wallet, which I sprinkle out from time to time kind of like dust...creating spicy transactions
1160  Economy / Speculation / Re: EMA 100/200 convergence = price about to move? on: May 20, 2014, 02:05:41 AM
yes, indecision. there are lots of people waiting for the right time to buy, you see all the threads saying so. my guess is any movement downward will generate sufficient buying volume to propel bitcoin value to $540 and this will be the next stable price for the medium term.
