Anyone holding on to altcoins does not want to miss out on a BTC rally so they convert to BTC. That's when you start to see nice prices like 0.01 BTC for a Litecoin. After the rally goes hyper-exponential these profits will flow back into altcoins and "pump" them. You can make a lot of money by recognizing these patterns.

I know prices are pretty high right now, but I'm thinking about buying 1-2 more bitcoins. Are people still buying at these prices? There are a lot of speculation posts about coins still rising in price
I think about it like this - we're still far below the previous all time high. If you're in it for the long term, this is the safe buy zone. Bitcoin has never fallen below the previous high from the last bubble ($31, $266, now ~$1150). You can feel relatively confident knowing that after the next wave of adopters the price will never drop below $1150 again.

not sure maybe my math is off or something to do with the fees. Here is what I have. the 906$ on may 14th got canceled by coinbase which really pisses me off and cost me a little bit of money
Buy 1,126.46 USD 2.00 BTC 11.30 USD 557.58 USD Pending May 27, 2014 Buy 64.24 USD 0.137 BTC 0.78 USD 463.21 USD Completed May 20, 2014 Buy 935.77 USD 2.00 BTC 9.41 USD 463.18 USD Completed May 20, 2014 Buy 906.79 USD 2.00 BTC 9.13 USD 448.83 USD Completed May 14, 2014 Buy 919.41 USD 2.00 BTC 9.25 USD 455.08 USD Completed May 10, 2014 Buy 312.78 USD 0.745 BTC 3.25 USD 415.48 USD Completed Apr 9, 2014 Buy 16.07 USD 0.035 BTC 0.31 USD 450.29 USD Completed Apr 3, 2014 Buy 94.57 USD 0.22 BTC 1.08 USD 424.95 USD Completed Apr 2, 2014
ah, that sucks. i guess i've been lucky never having a problem with coinbase. assuming that Coinbase returned $906.79 to your bank account, you have only spent $3469.30 for 7.137 BTC. so your average price comes to $486!

I'm just curious how everyone is doing. In your calculations please do not include what you paid for BTC prior to 2014, I'm only interested in this year's numbers.
My average BTC cost in 2014: $543.71
I bought steadily and cautiously sub-500, however a premature buy in the 600's earlier this year skewed my results.

with the jump up in price I am already around 4300 with 7.14 bitcoin, I think I'm gonna hold off on buying more and see where this goes. Hopefully I can make some decent money. Thanks again to everyone for the advice
4300/7.14 = $602.24 average price is that correct? if you bought in the 400s and 500s you should have more BTC.

Bought a few MRO back at 4.6 mBTC - now the price has dropped so much I want to load up...maybe 0.5% of my BTC holdings.
My question is what will stop the miners from dumping?

got mine today, although I'm unsure of why this is significant or necessary. Its just another layer of obfuscation so that beginners or people that don't want to learn can easily receive bitcoin. Let's say your grandma has a Coinbase account, now she can accept funds at https://coinbase.com/grandma, its easy to remember and she doesn't have to divulge any personal info (email address) in order to receive bitcoin payments from strangers. I don't know if that is their intention but it's the way I see it.

Willy Report is old news, this info was circulating in February or March on the forums and reddit. That's why nobody cares, its irrelevant to the current price.
In my opinion the FUD is being repushed because people want to slow the rise and continue accumulating cheap coins.

received payment, thanks!
think how much these measly mBTC's will be worth in a few months time just for doing what i was going to do for free. haha!

on't 100% trust using Localbitcoins SMS - they are having SMS delays of at least 30-40 minutes.
yea i had .6 btc stolen from me yesterday beacuse i didnt use sms. it was gone in 2 seconds i recommend using every availible secuirty measuer possible to gaurd your online btc and your wallets beacuse if you dont you shouldnt use btc anyway beacuse you will end up loosing all your investments your family will tell you ha shouldnt have bought into that scam coin nonsense called BITCOIN when the real trouble was you/me not using BTC safegaurds such as sms.... FFFMT*... (crys*) (sniffels*) they stole all my btc in 2 seconds :L( from both cryptsy and localbitcoin i thought i was downloading a 32bit darkcoin miner on cryptocointalk.org( WAS A TROJAN) he had my btc before i could send it all beacuse of not using the SMS verification method so blaintanly described as a defence against people stealing your btc. Meow im so mad sad unglad pissed kissed dissed im gonna go lay down (heart palpitations) "Brokjen420 passed away during the writing of this message boop didddley do bop smokie to much weed" sgt mayer I'm sorry to hear that, what I was complaining about was the SMS system lagging when I sent LBC the release code to transfer funds to a buyer. The best security measure is do not store any BTC online until you absolutely have to, and always use 2 factor authentication.

I'm about to use localbitcoins right now. Is this problem something that just happened?
OP, if you had your phone on you to send SMS release code, then you could also use the browser on your phone to log in your localbitcoin account to manually release the btc. Am I missing something here? This glitch sounds pretty alarming.
I just noticed your reply. This was something that happened yesterday afternoon (Friday 5/23). I had never had troubles with the LBC SMS system so I didn't even think of bringing a backup way to access the site. I have all my passwords in a password manager on my computer so I don't even know the PW to login, otherwise I would have done it manually. Lesson learned. Check the forums on LBC and look for a post called "SMS failure", you'll see that others were experiencing the same issues. Luckily I got back home in time to cancel the deal.

Weird. I usually don't include fees and I've never had to wait.
I think it the waiting game only happens if the coins are very young. I just waited almost 48 hours to receive confirmations for a no fee transaction that was under the size limit, no outputs less than 0.01, but the coins were generated somewhat recently so I think that was the delay. Anyway, they will confirm you just have to wait longer.
