1181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Litecoin? on: December 01, 2013, 09:26:23 AM
I'm also wondering what both of their values are based off, or better yet how real their respective values actually are? They seem to be based solely off of media hype and demand, but I'm not sure.

you can determine what the real value is based on the hashrate/difficulty of a coin.
1182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Litecoin? on: December 01, 2013, 09:18:49 AM
Can't you invest in litecoin, and then trade it in for bitcoins? At least that's what I would've done. Because I believe that altcoins will be growing much faster percentwise during the next months.

LTC/BTC is at  high levels, i think 0.02 is fairly valued, greater than 0.03 is exuberant.  0.01, BUY.  follow these rules and you will quadruple your money
1183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what do i do with a freicoin on: December 01, 2013, 09:14:17 AM

1184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Litecoin? on: December 01, 2013, 09:10:06 AM
take it from someone who has been here for awhile

invest in bitcoin first

ONLY invest in litecoin when its cheap compared to BTC and by that i mean less than 0.02, buying litecoin right now is just silly

1186  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Do I Invest My Money in Bitcoin, and How do I Get Out? on: December 01, 2013, 08:57:42 AM
Hey guys.

Some of my thoughts on investing in Bitcoin:

You might be tempted to quickly take all your money and pour it into Bitcoin. That might be tempting. But, let me ask you this:

Raise your hand if you really understand Bitcoin, how it works on an internal level, and all the risks involved with keeping all or part of your wealth in Bitcoin?

I think a lot of you in the room didn’t raise your hand. I didn’t. Therefore, it’s not a great idea to invest all your money all at once in Bitcoin, even if it is going up every single week.

Some risks inherent to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies:

- Like the old-style bank robberies of the wild west, rogue hackers will constantly attempt to steal Bitcoin that is stored on your computer or even on an apparently secure online wallet service. Though these companies will do an amazing job defending against these attacks, the hackers will constantly evolve in a Red Queen cycle that will constantly create a certain inherent risk of being hacked.
- Bitcoin can be stored in a secure offline wallet, but this wallet can always be stolen or foolishly lost. Kept in a security deposit box this way, it cannot be invested, except as a currency itself. Currently it is amazing just to have, but that may not always be the case.
-Bitcoin can be lost forever if you lose your password, your computer is destroyed or you are outright robbed. You may not be able to insure Bitcoin like you can normal assets, and this money may be lost forever.

That being said, you should be buying Bitcoin. Anyone who reads this now is what is called an “early adopter.” In other words, you are in a position to profit from Bitcoin simply because you are alive at the right time and understand the implications of this powerful social currency.

Full story here:

There is no reason to get out

I am a more early adopter than you daniel and I regret only this

The first time I got out, and the second time I got out.

Now I'm all in

1190  Economy / Speculation / Re: sold at $600. what to do? on: November 23, 2013, 11:17:42 PM
Sell low/ buy high is a common mistake. Wait, we will see a pullback one way or the other.

Unless you just buy and spend immediatelly, but without SR not best idea

 Cheesy

op was right to buy back some (50% ?).

what are you doing with the other half?

i bought back 25% of the BTC i sold.  i only buy what i can afford to lose and that's about it for right now.

the rest of the money is waiting for another dump before 1000.

1191  Economy / Speculation / Re: sold at $600. what to do? on: November 23, 2013, 02:40:43 AM
Thanks for the advice everyone.

I bought some back today.  If the price goes up, great.  If it drops, I'll buy back the rest.

Am I an idiot?  Yes.
1192  Economy / Speculation / sold at $600. what to do? on: November 22, 2013, 04:38:49 PM
i freaked out and sold a large portion of my coins around $600, suspecting the price would continue to oscillate between $400-700 for a couple weeks... (i know)

do I

A) wait it out hoping for a better price to get back in
B) take a loss and buy back in at $750
C) ??

thanks guys

bought as much BTC as i could between sept 2012-april 2013.

tripled my BTC holdings by buying LTC during March 2013.

then dumped at less than 100 during july 2013.  Sad

not too sad because i just bought back in a month later but still...

1196  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just bought bitcoin using Coinbase, need help with paper wallet please on: November 14, 2013, 06:46:55 AM
but first send the bitcoins to that randomly generated key? Couldnt someone randomly generate that key and have access to my wallet?

the chances of a random address collision are very very slim.  search for it.

personally i generate my paper wallets using bitaddress.org on an offline computer booted from a linux live CD but that's just how it was done in 2012.  so much easier now, haha.

How can you access bitaddress.org on an offline computer? And doesn't bitaddress.org owner then know your private key?

i boot tails and access the site, then disable internet connection.  then generate new addresses, print and turn off the computer.  bitaddress.org does everything in your browser no info given to the site.  it is open source so you can be confident others have reviewed the code.

I'm 14 and have around .3 BTC which I go from the /r/Jobs4Bitcoins. If you have programming skills that is a good option. I might be willing to pay you if you can do something useful for me. What skills do you have? If you mind sharing, why do you need the money? PM if you want some help getting established in the Bitcoin world. If you have fiat currency (fake money that every insists on using =P) you could also try LocalBitcoins.

You're one lucky kid, unfortunately i don't have any good skills except downloading mods for video games. I am a fast typer as well. Eh that probably doesn't do anything really.

Perhaps if you gave your reasons, you might have a chance.

It's kind of stupid but i wanted to buy clothes online with btc cause i'm embarrassed that i have very few clothes.

EDIT: Warning: Check out BertSesame's trust rating here. Alt of burgerdistraction.

Long time ago buddy, plus the loan i was asking for was stupid. I didn't really pay anyone but i got a negative rating for no reason.

lol where can you buy clothes for btc?
1199  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will You Sell when BTC Hits $1,000? on: November 14, 2013, 05:56:10 AM
it is hard to hold when you know it should be worth at least $10,000 but you have to wait several years.  i'd like a bitcoin amnesia pill so i can forget ever having bought them
1200  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Maximum Deposit into a US Bank on: November 11, 2013, 11:04:36 PM
i'd be wary of dumping huge amounts in a bank but what are ya gonna do...i think under 10k is reasonable
