1261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Metered connection - how much data? on: June 29, 2013, 04:30:27 AM
a few months ago i was uploading like crazy, like 5 GB if i just left the client open for a few hours.  today i had my client running for most of the day and i'm up to 2 GB upload.  less new users downloading the blockchain i guess.

I'm afraid I've lost my faith in Bitcoin. Somebody save me..

thats because you are reading the high price which is always volatile.. check out the monthly low price.. you will see there is a constant rise. the low price is more of the indicator of true value and growth indicators.. the high price is just pure speculation and should be ignored for long term investors

wow i appreciate this info, i was getting pessimistic as well about to dump...but NO I will not dump
1264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The DEA Seized Bitcoins In A Silk Road Drug Raid on: June 28, 2013, 04:48:14 AM
Note the part in that article where he freely gave his home address away while using his SR Vendor account to buy himself drugs. Surprised they gave him bail, guess he's only facing minor charges

Did he flip?

If;
1ETDwGUC1Q was his address, and the DEA took his 11.02 BTC here, then WTF is happening here?

i guess if i was the DEA i'd be buying drugs on SR to try and get people for more BTC

i don't know if that's how it works but i imagine they do whatever they want and ask for permission later

It comes from posting to threads that get deleted by mods due to trolling.

This will continue to happen if people are careless, and stupid.

A couple months ago someone wanting to buy BTC with cash contacted me through localbitcoins and I googled their username, naturally, which turned out to be the same username they were using on the SR forums talking about their business endeavors.
1267  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transfer to Bitcoin-QT offline wallet before it's synced to network on: June 27, 2013, 04:01:55 PM
I bought some bitcoins and transferred them from the online wallet to the Bitcoin-QT client before its synced to the network and they are not showing up, have i lost them? Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed

just wait for the client to sync, this could take awhile.

in the meantime, go to blockchain.info and search for the address you sent them to.  you can verify that they are indeed where they should be.

1269  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it right to drug our youth against their will? on: June 27, 2013, 04:19:26 AM
hey dank

no obviously they should not be able to pump you full of drugs without your consent

just play it cool until they think you've recovered, we are all being watched but if you start to freak out it gives them a reason to control you.

act normal to them but go about your drug using in private.
1270  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long does coinbase take to set up bank account? on: June 27, 2013, 03:02:53 AM
I am having difficultly buying bitcoins. I would like to buy them fairly quickly. I set up an account with Dwolla but to confirm the bank account with the microtransactions looks like it may take days. I am still waiting for the microtransactions to appear. It looks like coinbase uses the same system but should it take days to officially set up?

Don't listen to the above.  I just set up my bank account on Coinbase a week ago.  They can actually verify your bank account instantly if you give them the username and password of your online bank info.  After they verify just change your password at the bank.  Done.
1271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Group Buy] Litecoin Physical Silver Coins 1/2 Troy Oz with 10LTC ~900 Remain on: June 27, 2013, 12:41:59 AM
Why are you selling another forum members product, before they are even up for sale by him, and he's not accepting preorders so how can you, and for more then he's going to sell?

How can people preorder upto 900 from you, when you yourself have 0 preorder allocation?

jasinlee is a well known figure in the LTC community.  that's why.

1274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / why did "number of transactions" disappear? on: June 21, 2013, 04:06:21 AM

can you add it back please devs?  make it an option?

1276  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC or LTC on: June 21, 2013, 03:54:31 AM
Not sure if it is the good place to ask that but if I have just one Radeon 7970 Graphics Card, should I mine LTC or BTC considering that Bitcoin difficulty is way higher.

Thanks

check out dustcoin.com and you'll see what is the most profitable
1277  Other / Off-topic / Re: Internationally shipped package MIA... on: June 21, 2013, 03:07:17 AM
I've sent someone who lives in the UK a Casascius coin via USPS Priority Mail on 6/2/13, from Oregon, USA.  The tracking number shows that the most recent activity was the package departing from my city.

I had also recently sent a Casascius coin to someone in Spain, and they received it in just a few days.  This one has taken 18 days with no tracking updates (though I know USPS tends to not have many tracking points).

Has anyone else sent items to the UK from the US?  How long did it take to arrive?  Did you get any tracking updates between the time it shipped and the time it arrived?  Is there anything we can do to track down this package in particular?

the last time i shipped a package to the UK (from the US) it took about 2-3 weeks, and that was priority mail international if i recall.

unfortunately there really is no way to track an international shipment once it is out of the country.

1278  Economy / Economics / Re: Why people are still buying BTC? on: June 18, 2013, 04:10:28 AM
it is a ponzi scheme, the problem is nobody will admit that our current lifestyle is all a ponzi scheme so your wife can be right and also buy bitcoins too.
1279  Economy / Goods / Re: Anonymous PLN Mastercard cards on: June 18, 2013, 04:08:16 AM
no anonymous cards
the activation of the card on the website you need to specify the name surname and PESEL

Haven't activated mine yet. If that's true this is disheartening as I don't have a PESEL living in USA.

Use fakenamegenerator.com select Poland as country and it will give you all the info you need.
1280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Saving my Bitcoins before a System Restore? on: June 18, 2013, 03:45:33 AM
I just got a bunch of malware and adware installed on my system - brand new computer - so pissed ... so I need to do a system restore.

I am going to toss all my files onto an external drive.

How do I get my bitcoins off this computer safely without all that insanely complex nonsense for making a paper wallet or cold storage?  I dont have the technicall know-how to do all of that.

Is there some way i can get them onto the external drive safely?   Maybe just copy the Bitcoin-QT files onto the drive?

Or would just the DAT file be sufficient?

personally i dont think cold storage is all that difficult so here is my attempt at simplifying it while leaving crucial steps intact.

1.  go to https://tails.boum.org and download the current tails OS.  burn it to a DVD.

2.  boot your computer from tails OS and generate bitcoin address using https://bitaddress.org

3.  print address/private key and shutdown tails.

4.  scan QR code and send your BTC to paper wallet.   i highly recommend testing with a small amount first to avoid potential costly mistakes.  verify using blockchain.info

5.  wipe your HD, restore, download Bitcoin-Qt and wait for blockchain to sync

6.  open debug window in Bitcoin-Qt

7.  scan the QR code of your private key that you printed out and copy it to clipboard

8.  in the debug window type "importprivkey <copyyourprivatekeyhere> [optional label here for your address] and hit enter

9.  wait several minutes for your private key to be added and rescanned your BTC will show up and you can breathe easy!

edit: also coinbase will generate paper wallets for you now, the only difference is you have to trust them when they say they do not store the private key.  https://coinbase.com/paper_wallets

possible 10. shred paper wallet or save it somewhere carefully as it is possible after enough transactions your wallet will use this address as change address and if someone got ahold of the private key it they could be waiting for this to occur and sweep coins.
