1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin be hijacked by world billionaires??? on: May 09, 2021, 01:11:06 PM
Those who understand the basics of Bitcoin will not take any of this FUD seriously. First of all, Bitcoin is a decentralized asset and it is designed to stay that way. Billionaires can invest in Bitcoin, but they won't be able to manipulate its exchange rate or other aspects. And perhaps that is why they are busy manipulating the shitcoins such as Ripple and Dogecoin. Any thoughts on why the market share of these shitcoins went up so much recently? IMO, that is because the whales are manipulating their prices and the supply. BTC prices are suppressed, because such manipulation is not possible with Bitcoin.
1422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? on: May 09, 2021, 01:01:06 PM
I started buying Bitcoin. I have no idea where to buy gold right now. I think the main advantage of bitcoin. This is much easier and clearer for the user. So I made my choice a long time ago.

If you have a demat account, then purchasing Gold ETF is not that hard. Around 80% of my gold is in the form of ETF and only the remainder is in physical form. But you have made the right choice as of now. Gold is not looking very attractive right now. The demand is falling and the price may go further down. But still in the long term (3 to 5 years at least), I can see a lot of potential with gold. It is a "safe" asset with low volatility, and so I have around 10% of my portfolio made up of gold and other bullion metals.
1423  Economy / Economics / Re: Miami Mayor Will Allow Employee salaries in Bitcoin on: May 09, 2021, 12:51:38 PM
The latest new from Francis Suarez is that he is pushing for a pro-Bitcoin legislation in Florida.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article250961884.html

Unfortunately the bill has got stalled in the Florida senate and the chances of any forward movement looks very slim. But at the same time, the bill has attracted bipartisan support (which is still not enough to pass it).  Republican Party's Vance Aloupis (the representative from Miami-Dade) is sponsoring the bill in the House.
1424  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-03-15] [Reuters] India to propose cryptocurrency ban, penalising miners on: May 09, 2021, 12:41:19 PM
In any case, at this stage of the fight against the pandemic that has swept India so hard, it would be wrong to deprive those who can feed their families from this source of income, or even part of the income. I cannot say that I am deeply immersed in this issue, you are much more aware, but reasoning logically - any way to give the population earning remotely, without leaving their homes, without risking their lives and the lives of those around it, is important. I hope this does not happen this year, and by the time the COVID-19 crisis subsides, the perception of this cryptocurrency problem may have already changed.

If you know how things work in India, you will not post something like this. In India, the freelancers are under all sort of harassment and this is not a new phenomenon. This has been the case for the last 3 decades. The government of India doesn't want freelancing, because it deprives them of valuable tax revenue. When an individual do freelancing, he is liable to pay only the income tax. On the other hand, the IT companies need to pay around 70%-80% of their revenue in various taxes like VAT, GST, Export duty.etc. The government even banned PayPal because of this. Now they are targeting Bitcoin, because many of the freelancers are receiving their income in the form of BTC.
1425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mixing your Bitcoin might become illegal in the future on: May 09, 2021, 12:31:09 PM
We will see more strict regulation with every year

How they are going to regulate the Mixers? Developers can easily build a mixing site in the TOR and there is hardly anything that the FBI or the IRS can do about it. And if somehow they seize the domain and shut it down, the promoters behind the mixer will simply set up another domain offering the same service. "Strict" regulations have their own limits, especially when it comes to cryptocurrency. Once in a while, they may have some success (such as the seizure of BTC-e in 2017), but right now cryptocurrency sector has grown too big for them to enforce their control.
1426  Economy / Economics / Re: Africa needs to fix continent, richest people are politicians on: May 09, 2021, 12:21:15 PM
Well, they are good at shifting the blame. Robert Mugabe blamed all his problems on the "West" and his people were suffering under his regime. He was the President for that country from from 1987 to 2017 for 30 years and he almost destroyed that country.

Look at what is happening in South Africa.... The current government and local government is some of the most corrupt people on this planet. The so-called "Rainbow" nation has almost collapsed and some the Black people are the most racist people you can get. (Blaming everything on "White" people and "Colonization" and "Apartheid")

I work on projects in Africa and I go through South Africa to work in some African countries and it is quickly turning into a shithole. (Sorry if I offend people, but it is the truth.... I have been working and visiting Africa for 30 years and it is the worst I have seen it in almost 20 years.)  Angry

South Africa is one of the most developed countries in the African continent, and ironically the reason for that is the white population. Compare South Africa to neighboring nations such as Mozambique and Madagascar. If the white people were not there, then they would have been in the same state as the residents of these countries. And now the blacks are trying to exterminate the white people and already around 25% of the white population has emigrated to the other countries.
1427  Other / Politics & Society / Re: India covid19 crisis on: May 09, 2021, 12:11:27 PM
Talked to some of my relatives and friends in India. This time a lot of younger people are dying from CoVID 19. Perhaps the government did the mistake by vaccinating the 45 plus group first. Now a large fraction of those who are dying are in their 20s and 30s. Unlike the seniors, these people don't have the option of staying at home. They need to travel to their workplace. That makes them more vulnerable when compared to the elderly. Also, the government is insisting on fully vaccinating as many people as possible. And this is contributing to the vaccine shortage. In UK, they prioritized the first dose to as many as possible, before pushing for the second dose. But in India, they are not doing that.
1428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High transaction fees on: May 09, 2021, 12:01:17 PM
Right now 1 Sat/Byte txs are confirming.

Yes.. that happened after many months. And also, this one off incident doesn't mean that transactions with a fee of 1 Sat/Byte will get confirmed with surety. Right now fee for high priority transaction is being measured at 2 Sat/Byte and the Mempool is largely empty (less than 80 MB). But once the mining difficulty gets adjusted again, you will see an increase in the fee once more. Anyway, right now I am sending some of the low-priority transactions. Two transactions got confirmed in 5 minutes, after paying a fee of 2.7 Sat/Byte.
1429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High transaction fees on: May 07, 2021, 03:57:24 AM
4 sats per byte fees are now confirming. The mempool is much clearer than it’s been for some time, might be a good idea to consolidate smaller amounts now if you want to.

Yeah.. a few hours back, some of my transactions got confirmed immediately, after paying as little as 11 Sat/Byte in fee. The Mempool is still quite bit, with 100 MB of transactions pending to be confirmed. But this is a big improvement when compared to the situation we had two weeks ago, when the size had swelled to around 250 MB. I hope everyone makes use of this opportunity to combine their smaller outputs, so that the fee can be reduced in the future.

When you say 11 Sat/Byte in fee, how much satoshi is that and how much USD is that approximately?
So you could send a transaction right now with 2 sat/byte and it would work but take very long?

Average transactions have a size of 100-150 Bytes, so a fee of 11 Sat/Byte translates to around 1200-1600 Satoshis in fee. That comes to around BTC0.000012 - BTC0.000016, and as per the current exchange rates, this amounts to $0.67-$0.90. But the size of your transaction decides everything. If your wallet contains a large number of small-sized transactions, then the size will be larger and therefore the total fee will be higher. And a fee of 2 Sat/Byte would be too low, IMO. It may never get confirmed.
1430  Other / Politics & Society / Re: India covid19 crisis on: May 07, 2021, 03:39:16 AM
I don't know why you are so angry with the opposition party, everyone is responsible for the situation in India and its a known fact that no one followed social distancing which is also not possible in a country like India where 1.4 billion people are living and most of them are daily wagers.

If you take a look at the spike now then its everywhere because still the new strain is spreading so there is no other choice for the government as well, just save yourself is anyone stuck in that situation.

I don't have voting rights in India and I really don't care much about the politics there. But it irritates me when the opposition parties use this tragedy as an opportunity to spread fake news. Given the population size and limited medical infrastructure in India, the central government did much better than what was expected from them, at least until a month back. I have seen the current opposition ruling India from 2004 to 2014. And I am 100% sure that if they were in power, then the situation could have been much worse.
1431  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigeria will overtake India in P2P on: May 06, 2021, 04:42:52 AM
I agree with you that the adoption of Cryptocurrency in Nigeria is to a very large extent greater than what is obtainable in India, but looking at the economic and population size of India, one can confidently agree that p2p trading volume in India cannot be overtaken by that of the Nigerian populace.

Nigeria is also one of the most populous countries in the world, with a total population of 200 million. If population was the sole basis of cryptocurrency adoption, then India and China would be having the largest number of cryptocurrency users in the world. That is not the case, as the US is dominating this sector. The unclear legal status of cryptocurrency and economic downturn may negatively impact the users in India. Once there is clarification regarding the status of cryptocurrency in India, then things will get easier for the users there.
1432  Other / Politics & Society / Re: India covid19 crisis on: May 06, 2021, 04:31:25 AM
Political parties are same but they just differ with the policies alone so I am not supporting one over other but its a known fact that India is being performed every poor in the last 5 years or so and also they managed to create the infrastructure after the first wave is the only reason people are dying now. And one more thing, international media reports that Indian government is currently under reporting the number of cases mean the actual scenario is 3 to 5 times worse than what we are seeing in the media and reports.

I have visited India on a regular basis for the last two decades, and what you are saying makes no sense. The health infrastructure was in very poor state even before the current government took power in 2014. Actually I could see a lot of improvement since 2014. There may be underreporting of deaths, but once again that doesn't take away the fact that the worst situation is present in states which are ruled by the opposition parties. During the last 14 months, the current government has managed the situation in whatever way they could, despite the poor handling by the state governments in 2-3 provinces.
1433  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: May 05, 2021, 03:56:29 PM
We need to be grateful, because due to Covid many people work from home, this is why the new Altseason has come.  so the pandemic does not always cause harm, only how do we react to it
Come on member, are you so serious? Yes the covid-19 situation triggered working from home but do you really mean it that the pandemic did not always cause any harm? If you say it triggered the altcoins season, that maybe true but how % of the world population know about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies? The virus had caused so much harm to the world mate.

Just doesn't make any sense. Altcoin season was bound to happen, as new users were entering the cryptocurrency sector in huge numbers. It has nothing to do with the pandemic. BTW, how many people are working from home now? A majority are still working from their office locations, or out of work. I don't think that the pandemic has resulted in anything good for the cryptocurrency users. On the other hand, it resulted in a delay in the rally, which we were expecting after the 2020 block reward halving.
1434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? on: May 05, 2021, 01:59:49 PM
Gold are traditional, the new era are bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, but we can use cryptocurrencies 100% right now, because as we know, many people in this world thinks that cryptocurrencies like a scam, and don't believe it. buy you know right now about the trust and the power of cryptocurrencies , we can see the price of bitcoin, ethereum, and other right now. i believe that cryptocurrencies are the futures

Cryptocurrencies can never achieve the level of trust that gold possess. Because gold is being used for investment for thousands of years. No other asset, including fiat currency, equity or cryptocurrency will be able to achieve the same level of trust. But the important thing to remember here is that trust doesn't always mean higher returns. Gold is more like a store of value now, with potential for limited returns in the long run. For higher returns, you need to invest in other assets.

1436  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-05-03 EBay says open to accepting to crypto currencies in future on: May 05, 2021, 12:32:38 PM
They are already indirectly accepting Bitcoin (through PayPal), so I don't think that accepting Bitcoin directly will represent some sort of a drastic change. New infrastructure needs to be created if they are accepting Bitcoin (or any other cryptocurrency). I am talking about hot wallet and a mechanism to exchange the cryptocurrency to fiat. Also, they need to do some additional paperwork related to taxes. Anyway, so many corporations have already done this (Overstock for example), so it is not going to be too hard.
1437  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 05, 2021, 12:09:15 PM
I doubt that if any international players are going to think about this in future. Once situation gets under control, it would be business as usual like nothing happen. Big checks always matter.

BCCI got wrapped up in securing WC hosting rights and end up shooting on foot.

The ICC guys are going to be very happy. To start with, they were not happy with the tournament being staged in India, because whatever revenue is generated, some 45% will be taken away as tax. And secondly, the BCCI was so vocal in its opposition to an additional ICC global tournament. Even the other big 3 countries were taking a more moderate opinion on this issue, but the BCCI created a lot of headache for the ICC and heartburn for the poorer test nations. Now the poorer nations will be laughing at the state of the BCCI.
1438  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: May 05, 2021, 11:16:55 AM
Luckily for those who still have a job even though they have to work at home and get a salary, but not for factory workers and the like, they have to lose their jobs because of Covid which is very detrimental to many people and the middle and lower class.
and the government didn't think about it because it caused the number infected with the virus to increase, because those who lost their jobs had to keep fighting and inevitably had to leave their homes to earn a living, because they had no other choice.

This is the reason why I am saying that further lockdown measures should not be implemented. Lockdowns have a disproportionately negative impact on the poor people. During the initial stages, lockdowns had to be implemented to make the medical sector prepared to handle the pandemic. But now the pandemic is more than one year old and there is no need for such preparation. Let the citizens take proper precautions such as social distancing and wearing of masks, rather than going through lockdowns.
1439  Economy / Economics / Re: Africa needs to fix continent, richest people are politicians on: May 05, 2021, 11:05:30 AM
The problem is easily solvable if the organizations that was helping Africa was really helping. Just because they got the money and power doesn't mean that they will be untouchable because there are revolts that did that thing, French Revolution and Bolshevik Revolution are some of the of prominenet ones. If people starts knowing that they aee being oppressed they will eventually stand up for themselves.

The problem is that those people who are protesting ends up dead or go missing. Do you know what happened to Ken Saro-Wiwa, after he organized protests against the dictator General Sani Abacha in Nigeria? Or do you know what happened to Fikile Ntshangase who protested against environmental pollution in South Africa? Politicians hold too much power and if you stand against them, then be ready to risk everything including your life.
1440  Economy / Economics / Re: US economy is booming, but people are not seeing it. on: May 05, 2021, 10:54:39 AM
I agree, with people not enjoying the benefits of an increased GDP then what's the point of growing, if US do have a booming economy, why can't they lower the price or make healthcare free or forgive student loans?

Healthcare and education have been two sectors that are in bad state within the United States for many decades now. Because of the monopoly of the insurance industry, medical procedures in the US are 5 times or 10 times more costly when compared to the neighboring countries. On top of that, there are strict regulations covering the prescription medicines. And this means that the same drug which costs $10 per packet in Canada costs around $250 per packet in the US. No one wants to change the status quo, since powerful players (i.e donors to both the Democratic party and the GOP) are benefiting out of it.
