1401  Other / Politics & Society / Re: India records another 3,980 convid-19 death in one day on: May 10, 2021, 04:47:39 PM
Going conspitard theorist on us now, eh?  Is the earth flat too?  Har, Har.

Experts say that the 'double mutant strain', and the virus staying on it's side of the national border is totally expected.  Just like the cloud with radioactive fallout from Chernobyl did.

Don't worry about this stuff else you will be wearing a tinfoil hat and people won't like you.

I have my doubts related to the pandemic. Please explain the following:

1. The virus originated from China. How China has remained free from the virus for the past many months, despite having such a huge population and a vaccination rate of less than 15% of the population? UK has vaccinated more than 50% of the population, and still dozens of deaths are reported from there every day.

2. Why the spikes from CoVID 19 occurs at a time when anti-China politicians face elections? Trump lost the election probably due to CoVID 19 in November 2020. Biden is regarded as much more pro-China when compared to Trump. Similarly there was a big spike in India, a few weeks before crucial state elections were due. The ruling party is very anti-China, while the opposition is pro-China and had signed a MoU with the CCP back in 2008.

3. How come China is the only country that has the capacity to export vaccines, when all the other countries are struggling to secure enough doses?
1402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could we crowdfund a movie about Satoshi Nakamoto? on: May 10, 2021, 02:21:24 PM
That money could be better spent elsewhere. I saw the recent movie Silk Road. It was an independent production, and therefore failed to garner much hype. I felt bad, because the movie was 99% accurate about Ross Ulbricht and the dark markets. But the problem is that it is extremely hard for the independent productions to attract large viewership. Hollywood is being dominated by a handful of powerful producers. And this is why I am of the opinion that crowdfunding the movie may be a bad idea.
1403  Other / Politics & Society / Re: India records another 3,980 convid-19 death in one day on: May 10, 2021, 02:04:51 PM
Praying for the wellness of INDIA, hope my prays comes to your country.

I don't want to blame the Hindu Festival cause its their own countries beliefs, but please let that be a major lesson to take the pandemic more seriously now.

At this point, they could have avoided the festival (Kumbh Mela), since it has been blamed for a least some of the spike. But the government needs to investigate the origin of the double mutant strain of the Coronavirus (B.1.617). I am feeling something fishy about this strain. Why it is limited to India and not found in any of the neighboring nations? Anyway, indications are that this wave might be levelling off. For the last 2-3 days, there is a slight decline in the number of new cases.
1404  Economy / Economics / Re: China to overtake the Us as the largest global economy by 2028? on: May 10, 2021, 01:07:52 PM
Spend some time reading these articles:

The first article by a Chinese media publisher and the second by a Western one. The main idea in the first news wasn't proven through reality while content in the second news has been verified all over the Internet. Just like Sinopharm, Sinovac was also approved long before by WHO. Do you think Sinopharm can make the difference? Forget about WHO, they can't even give any wise decision on Covid-19 Pandemic at the moment.

There are large number of countries which imported Chinese vaccines to vaccinate their population - Chile, Turkey, Morocco, Serbia, Hungary, Brazil, Cambodia.etc. And one thing is common with all these countries. All of them are witnessing a surge in daily CoVID infections and deaths. Countries like Chile have administered the first dose to almost 50% of their population, and still it doesn't seems to be having an impact on containing the pandemic.
1405  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism: Venezuela raises monthly minimum wage to $2.40 on: May 10, 2021, 12:54:28 PM
Whether the 2018 elections are fair or not is a slightly different question. Although I completely agree with you - elections without choice are nonsense!
I wanted to talk about the so-called civic responsibility and citizenship of Venezuelans. Low turnout is also an indicator that many residents DO NOT care what will happen in the country. This is a mixture of stupidity, cowardice to be responsible, and just a devil-may-care attitude ("let them choose for me"). Well, those who came to the elections ended up "finishing off" the country with their choice. I am leading all this to - you cannot relieve the responsibility of citizens, they make a choice, or do not, or do not allow to do. They bear joint responsibility, they are the accomplices in this process. And Maduro is only a darling of fate, who managed to deceive gullible and / or stupid citizens. This is not only a problem for Venezuela, we had a very similar situation in 2019 ...

What do you want the ordinary citizens to do? Rebel against the government? These things are very easy to say, but extremely difficult to implement in reality. Stalin ruled the USSR for three decades, exterminating 60 million people during that period. Why didn't anyone had the courage to stage a coup and overthrow him? The answer to that question will be applicable to Venezuela as well. In dictatorships, there is hardly anything that the ordinary civilians can do. Blaming them for the dictatorship is illogical.
1406  Economy / Economics / Re: US economy is booming, but people are not seeing it. on: May 10, 2021, 11:51:56 AM
Certainly the fully diluted with brrr money stock market is booming!
As for the real economy it is still unclear what the recovery will look like, it's far too early to see that.
Inflation could kick in very hard while the purchasing power of Americans will get smashed.
I don't buy into this fake recovery.

Stock markets may be booming due to monetary inflows from foreign agencies. There were reports that some of the Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWF) from the middle-east heavily invested in the American stocks during last year, when there was a market crash. But this inflow can get converted to a net outflow, in case the crazy proposal to tax capital gains tax at 40% is implemented. But for now, the middle class is happy with the market rally. They are benefitting from the higher stock prices.
1407  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 10, 2021, 11:34:26 AM
Abid Ali was on 215. He was almost hundred runs away from scoring a triple century. I don't understand the argument here. How can you guys say that he was denied of a triple century? Are you 100% sure that he could have scored another 85 runs without getting dismissed? Pakistan had just two wickets remaining and the Zimbabwe bowlers could have taken those two within a couple of overs.
The problem might be the argument came because they did not see the entire scorecard Cheesy. If he was above 260 runs then the captain would have given him the opportunity to score the runs and reach the milestone as it can be once in a lifetime opportunity, but clearly that was not the situation here.

If you check the posts, I was the first one to point out that Abid Ali was batting on 215. To say that someone batting on 215 missed a triple century is like saying that someone on 15 lost his chance for scoring a century. If we go by this logic, then the captains won't be able to declare the innings. I am not sure about 260, but if Abid had scored 280 or 290, then the captain (Babar Azam) would have definitely allowed him to complete the triple ton. I don't know what these people are smoking, when they expect Abid Ali to score another 85 runs when two tail end batsmen are batting with him.
1408  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 10, 2021, 11:22:57 AM
Considering Sanju's consistency i won't keep him even in the 2nd team lol and if some one say that Virat should be captain of IPL team or when playing in the ICC tournament, well just stop talking to that person for good.  Grin Grin

Virat Kohli is a very good player, but not a good captain. I would rather agree with Cricinfo's choice of Kieron Pollard. His win percentage in matches which he captained Mumbai Indians is quite high. MS Dhoni hasn't performed very well as a player in IPL 2021, but I would still rate him as one of the best captains. Steve Smith may be another option, but right now I can't consider too many other players for that role. As far as I am concerned, it has to be either Pollard or Dhoni.
1409  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 10, 2021, 07:01:29 AM
That's a bad decision by the skipper. They would have still won the match because there was so much time left in the match. When a player is playing at above 200 runs , you should let him play until he is bowled out. Who knows he would have make 300 - 400 runs. Don't think if a player score more runs, it would be for his own records, but it will also help in breaking individual batting records.
I think it was a selfish decision of baber Azam for not allowing Abid Ali to play further.

If Abid Ali wanted to score a triple ton, then he should have scored runs quickly. Team always come before the individual records. Anyway, what is the point in scoring a test triple against Zimbabwe? Their bowling is actually worse than many of the associate teams. And how can you say that someone who is batting at 215 is close to a triple century? This is ridiculous. Will you say that Sajid Khan narrowly missed a century by 80 runs, since he got out for 20? If Abid had scored 280 or 290, then I would have agreed with you. But this just doesn't make any sense.
1410  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 Postponed 21 on: May 10, 2021, 06:45:44 AM
japan really lost on this one. but they decided to continue this event despite of the situation. should always be ready in terms of medical response as they cant lose an athlete owed to covid. that would be a disaster. as the audience is not the same, most of these games will be competing in silent mode.
but bookies will still be earning from this event as they can easily open events for betting.

Tens of thousands of athletes and other personal will be traveling to Japan. Since Pfizer vaccine has an efficacy of 95%, we can expect upto a thousands athletes to test positive for the virus in case the pandemic spreads inside the bio-bubble. But since Japanese organizers are quite efficient in maintaining the bubble, I don't think that there is much of a chance of that happening. The event has to go ahead. We can't shut down the entire planet for years, just because of some virus.
1411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Yahoo Hates BTC: "Forget Bitcoin: Here are The Crypto Assets To Follow" on: May 10, 2021, 06:18:21 AM
This has become a trend now. A number of whales are entering the cryptocurrency sector and are trying to pop up shitcoins such as Doge and Ripple. They know that they have missed the boat with Bitcoin. So they are manipulating the smaller coins. And the impact is very visible in the cryptocurrency market. Dogecoin has gone up by almost 25,000% during the last 12 months. But once the manipulation is over, it will come back to its previous level (i.e $0.002 per coin). It looks as if all the coins, other than BTC are being manipulated now.
1412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My feelings after 11 years with crypto. on: May 10, 2021, 06:06:57 AM
Don't know whether the OP is just lying or not. But in my case, I first registered to this forum in 2012 and back then I had purchased BTC at around $10 per coin. Back then I never thought that BTC would climb to five digit prices and so I was not very serious about it. In 2013, I lost around 2/3rd of my coins to a scam. And in 2015, I sold a majority of what remained at around $250 per coin. Now I have around 10% of my original coins remaining in my wallet. But I don't have much regrets. I am luckier than 99% of the guys here, who entered the cryptocurrency sector mostly in 2017 or later.
1413  Economy / Economics / Re: April 2021 set a new record India. How much effect in Indian economy? on: May 10, 2021, 05:14:18 AM
The slowdown in infection that occurred in India should be supported by all groups in the country. if the government is actually already good at implementing health protocols, but vice versa with the community, then this will be ineffective, and of course the impact on the economic sector due to limited movement

The government can't do anything if the people refuse to obey the rules. I am a regular visitor to India for the last two decades and nowhere in the world you can find people who have such scant respect for the laws and regulations. Most of the Indians believe that it is cool to break the laws and show their arrogance in front of others. If people had obeyed the social distancing protocols, then this third wave could have been avoided. And it is always easy to blame the government for the current situation.

1415  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: May 09, 2021, 04:14:44 PM
right, with the discovery of a vaccine seems to be able to suppress the virus population, but problems arise such as in developing countries India. without a high level of awareness to jointly eradicate this virus, they actually hold a cultural ceremony which is a big problem with the number of deaths in the country because of this virus.

In India, the infection seems to have plateaued. Now it is spreading to the neighboring countries such as Nepal and Bangladesh. I am really concerned about these two, as they don't even have proper medical infrastructure. Myanmar is another neighbor which is in very poor state as far as the medical infrastructure is concerned. The only solution is to vaccinate as many as possible, but there are not enough vaccines available for 1.4 billion people. If the population was lower, then this fiasco could have been avoided. Perhaps now the Indian politicians can think about implementing strict family planning policies.
1416  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mixing your Bitcoin might become illegal in the future on: May 09, 2021, 02:04:19 PM
They can't regulate it, mixers can be created by a simple script just installed in the server and it could work already. If they ever put down the website, another will be created. Its a wild goose chase. But government can create pose a mixer of their own to watch criminals.

The rumors I've read were that its the mining that is going to be regulated. Coins mined in US, can circulate in US, and coins from Iran can circulate in Iran. That's is what Kevin Olery said which virgin coins will be regulated.

The last part is also not very practical. The miners are not answerable to the American authorities, especially since >95% of the coins are mined outside the US. Anyone can purchase the fresh coins from miners in China or Iran, or even Venezuela, and use them to fund the mixers. How the Americans are going to prevent this? And how many of the mining pools have KYC activated? Even if KYC is mandatory, will the mining pools in China be willing to give that information to the IRS?
1417  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: May 09, 2021, 01:51:51 PM
Of course health is very important. As of the present time, although there are many different vaccines from different countries, there are new variants which are much more harmful and worst, still no exact medicine to cure this. Looking at the situation we can say this pandemic does not seem to have an end yet to the whole world. We have to keep our healthy living lifestyle and always follow health protocols.

Right now the vaccines seems to be working against most of the strains. And manufacturers such as Pfizer have invented additional booster doses, to take care of the new strains. But overall, it is the vaccine availability that is causing headaches. Outside the developed world, none of the countries seems to have fully vaccinated (2 doses) more than 5% of their population. And now very small number of deaths are being reported from the developed nations. The vast majority are now being reported from developing countries such as India and Brazil.
1418  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla still an unprofitable automaker on: May 09, 2021, 01:41:35 PM
If you'd go on the official Tesla website instead of guessing about what you heard you will see for yourself that the Standard Range Plus Model 3 costs $33,690 (and if you are a California resident the price shown include the $1,500 California Clean Fuel Reward and potential incentives and gas savings of $4,300).
Model 3 Long Range is priced at $42,690 and the Performance stays at $51,190.
https://www.tesla.com/model3/design#overview

So $33,690 for an EV, with a range of 424 km? Looks like a very attractive option. And now the crude oil prices are going up once again, and that reduces the attractiveness of the gasoline run vehicles. But there is a catch. This $33,690 is including "potential savings". The purchase price is $39,490. A lot of potential buyers will look into the purchase price, rather than the price after all the savings. So that comes to around $40K, which is still somewhat affordable for the middle class families in the United States.
1419  Economy / Economics / Re: The Biden Tax and Spend Plan & The Big Cycle Swing on: May 09, 2021, 01:31:13 PM
My single most important issue with the Biden tax plan is that for the successful people ("wealthy" or "super-rich" as per the Democrat almanac), now the long term capital gains tax will be equal to the income tax. In states such as California and New York, this group will be forced to pay taxes above 55% on top of their gains from capital assets. Now this is more like wealth confiscation rather than taxation. Because if the government wants to tax capital gains on par with income, then they need to reimburse capital losses as well (in cash, not in credits). Else it is going to wreck the economy in the long term.
1420  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 09, 2021, 01:21:31 PM
Don't know what could possibly ICC do in this situation. Zimbabwe cricket is receiving their fair share of amount every year so its on them, additionally ICC could provide some guidance which i'm sure they already do. Cutting off their share and removing test status is out of the equation so Status quo seems okay decision.

Why cutting their share is out of the equation? Also, they are no longer placed in the first division of test cricket and not a part of the World Test Championship (WTC). So why should they receive around $12 million every year in the form of ICC funding? As far as I know, only a very small portion of this amount reaches the players. The remainder is siphoned away by the corrupt administration. It is very unfair on the part of the ICC to provide funds to Zimabwe, at a level which is 20x or 40x when compared to promising countries such as Nepal and Papua New Guinea. Even Ireland and Afghanistan receive only around $5 million per year as ICC funding.
