How about a gather of BTC to get someone skilled to crack these miners ?

If this is idea takes off, count me in for BTC contribution to the bounty

Me too!

Thanks for the info kano. it is a shame they dont seem to respect the very thing that got them where they are today.> open source..  Im sure they have learned a lot over the years and profited well.. so i im certain they can see the value in this.. Can we copy cgminer 4.9.2 to s9 like we did with s4 ??  i realize maybe it wont stay upon reboot but i dont reboot often and dont have many to deal with like i used to.. Anyone have any experience with s9 and this?  Would it need a special driver to operate the hash boards?  Can discuss this on another topic if anyone has any info on this..  Or maybe a thread has already been started?

Best Regards
d57heinz

I am all for cgminer 4.9.2 on the S9 -- I am not technical enough to initiate this - I hope the experts can take the lead.

Ditto on this!

Speaking of S9 behavior....

One of my S9's keeps failing over to the solo pool for about 10 minutes and then back to the main pool. It continues to do this and has happened at least 3 times. I just noticed this. It's now back at the main pool.

None of my other S9's have failed over at all.

Must be time for a reboot.  Undecided

My concern is that they have put something in the code that causes the S9's to perform well on Antpoo and to perform poorly on other pools. I wouldn't put something like that past them.
That's why we need to have the source code available for "peer review".

I don't trust them to live up to ethical standards. But there's not a lot the typical "home miner' can do other than to boycott purchasing the S9. And that's basically shooting ourselves in the foot to make a point. It's not gonna happen.
Just my thoughts.

@Kano, do you not have legal recourse against them for modifying your code without permission?

You're starting out well by using Core, methinks. Anyway...yeah, it takes a couple of days even on a fast connection to "catch up" to the block index, but after that you should be (preferably) running it 24/7. If not, leaving it down for a day or two won't give you fits resyncing, but you won't be helping the network as much, either. It's all personal pref/priority. It's a pretty straightforward GUI. Remember to backup the wallet to some external device often. I do mine daily when I finish booking the mining business.  8)the

I've been meaning to do it for a couple of months and I finally felt confident enough to take the leap. I Know there are MANY, MANY PROS but also some CONS that I need to fully address.

There are too many good (read: bad) hackers out there who would just love to drain an exchange of a few thousand coins. That could easily start a chain reaction and a run on the exchanges. I don't want to risk my small amount of coins to the risk of vanishing into thin air.
If the account were insured like they are with banks in the USA (and I'm sure with other countries) I wouldn't be so paranoid.

Anyhow, I also hope to save a little bit of money on fees (And what the hell, the tx fees I will pay out will end up back in my wallet in smaller form eventually from blocks found!  Grin

It will probably take another week or two until I'm fully switched over. I will still use Coinbase to get $ in and out of BTC. And always, new thoughts about "what-ifs", etc. still cross my mind.

Like this one.... wonder how much it would cost to have a fire-proof safe built into the floor of my house?Huh? LOL

Let's get this block in under-12 hours! Oh well.... Tongue
Mine on!  Grin

...
*Also, @Kano, is there a "good" time to change my payout address versus some other time of the day? Would you like me to PM you when I get ready to make the move? Thanks! Smiley
...
When you change it, it only affects blocks found after you change it.
The payout goes to the address you have when the block is found.

I guess this question also suggests a possible misunderstanding of the term 'manual' that I use Smiley
It simply means that the payouts don't go from 'generation' by ckdb to 'sent' automatically.
I run a process every so often (usually twice a day at some random time) that checks all sorts of things all over the place and generates the transactions and then does all sorts of checks on them also and reports problems if they exist.
Then once that's all done, I add the txn to the queue to send them to be queued.

All pools I know of have lost BTC in large amounts at certain times.
I aim to preclude the possibility of that here, if possible.

Thanks for the reply. No, I do believe I understand how the payouts work - after reading the questions being answered on here a few dozen times a month. LOL
Upon reflection, I think where I got the "PM / email you" part mixed in was where there were some issues with a payout address and you told the individual they needed to email you from their primary account email address.

No problems! And thanks so much for the patience you extend to us "older" folks who sometimes type/speak before we think.  Wink

I know you work your butt off keeping things running as smoothly as possible here on CKPool. I can probably speak for most of us when I say your efforts are GREATLY appreciated! (Anyone who doesn't have that appreciation is most likely a "dim bulb".  Tongue

Now, if you'll only start dropping some GREEN BLOCKS down on us at a pretty steady clip, all will be well!

A very red and unappealing end to the mining day!  Angry

The only bright note is that I've finally gotten BTC Core installed on one of my laptops and ready to do a small test receive from Coinbase then vice versa. It took about 2 days to download all of the data! Even with a 60G down load speed. Of course, my whole house runs on my Internet connection.

Time for some learning and procedure setting before I commit more of my coins. My wallet is already encrypted. Smiley

Any tips on using this instead of an online wallet greatly appreciated!

Thanks for any and all tips!

Anyone notice that the bad luck streaks across the net has started since the S9's started arriving?

Does that also correspond with an appreciable uptick in Antpoos daily block find? Just curious if anyone had taken a look at that. Huh

As a noob, I was initially oh so concerned about the consistent blocks\payouts and 22-23 hour blocks scared me. I wish i would have found kano earlier, long term profitability means so much more to me than a bunch of tiny payouts. Tis the cost of education.

I'm still new to all this myself, but am very happy with the decision to mine at Kano. Why?
* transparency of operations
* low pool fees
* distribution of transaction fees to miners
* active and direct participation and dialogue with Kano and CK on pool operations and related issues in this forum
* helpful pool participants who participate in this forum
* active pool management by Kano that results in good luck over time
* my desire to foster network diversity and health (which seems also to be aligned with pool philosophy)

I also was initially put off by the lack of a slick interface and also by concerns about time between blocks, but no longer.

Thanks very much for the great service and community here - looking forward to a long and profitable relationship.

Welcome aboard !  Grin

Ditto! Smiley
Let's have a GREEN "welcome" block!

996  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S9 : 1 board running hot - worth rearranging? on: July 27, 2016, 11:23:55 AM
Antminer S9. I am feeding this thing with a small A/C unit to keep incoming air about 60-65 degrees F.

One of the boards is reporting consistently hotter than the others.  PCB/Chip temps are 52/85, while the other 2 are running 49/78.

Is one board running hot because of its position, or is it worthwhile to rearrange these PCBs?

Also like to know how hot is *really* too hot.  80C is the stated limit, but some chips out there can run all the way to 125C without damage.

Thanks.

One board on each of my four S9's constantly runs hotter (with high HW errors) than the others. It's the 3rd board, but marked Chain 4.
All of the S9's I have seen pictures of or have heard talked about seem to have this issue on that board.

It is probably a combination of miner body design, chip set / cooling fin placement, and just normal plain-old Bitmain slack-assed-ness for not fixing a problem before it left the factory. I'm sure they were aware of it.

But people like me (and others) continue to buy their flawed equipment to keep up with the Joneses.  Undecided
997  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: July 27, 2016, 03:30:22 AM
Having problem on speed reading..anyone of you have the same problem?

When I first got my batch 3, the hash/HW/Chip Temps shot through roof on one board (3rd board, I think) during the initial boot.

After reboot from within the GUI, it came back to normal and has stayed pretty much within what is considered normal on these miners ever since.

Good luck!

999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: July 26, 2016, 03:09:10 PM
@patrike,
It's about 10:45 in the morning here and the outdoor temps are already approaching 94F. So.....

I will be implementing the change frequency rules to first take effect around 8 tonight. (I've already manually down-clocked.)
Just from glancing at the instructions earlier, it seems like you might be able to get more complicated and schedule freq changes based on time and/or chip temps.

I'll definitely be exploring my options!. Does the option of changing freq's based on chip temps sound feasible?
Thanks!

Hope you're having a great day!  Cool

I feel your pain about the heat. here in Las Vegas at 7:50 am it's 96F/35C.
And going up

I'll be taking advantage of the updated Awesome Miner rules which allow you to schedule frequency changes on the miners. I have already down-clocked my four S9 miners manually and will be setting up the rules to raise the frequencies after the sun goes down around 8:00 tonight. Hope it works as expected!  Cheesy

Mine On!  Cool
